Reader superDrive Burns very slowly on El Capitan

My SuperDrive works very slowly lately when burning data CD. Tonight that I realized probably started to happen then I upgraded to El Capitan (10.11.1). I burn lots of CD for my photography business just a few times a month, but when I do, I need to burn 20-30, and the additional delay is very noticeable. I believe it is 3 x-4 x more to burn.

I use the Burn utility (v 2.5.1 http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/) to around 300-400 MB data CD. Standard JPEG files. I haven't changed all parameters of combustion, or do anything else I can associate with the downturn. Burn the clock ticks down the time remaining and each takes then 2 or 4 real seconds before it changes.

I havn't changed any material etc, so unless the SuperDrive is subject to slow getting older, I don't know what to more El Capitan it might be.

Any suggestions?

Ben

To exclude a compatibility issue that happens if you just burn a file directly on a disc do not use your program indicated? Is it slow or normal?

• Reader SuperDrive does not burn after upgrade of el capitan

Almost immediately after upgrading a mac mini end of 2014 to el capitan (10.11.2), the superdrive has lost his ability to write DVD. It is recognized by the system and can read DVDs fine, but any attempt to burn files or an ISO image on a disc breaks down.

The superdrive even happily burn on the same media on other macs in Yosemite (I checked several times), but he stubbornly refuses to do it on el capitan. The same mac mini was happily burn DVDs on the same media with the same superdrive on Yosemite, just before the upgrade to 10.11.2.

Now, with el capitan, attempts to burn ISO images fail with the message:

"Error burn image to disc: the disc can't be burned; It might be incompatible with this disc drive. Please, try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a slower speed. »

Burn files fail with the message:

"The disc can't be burned because the device failed to calibrate the power level of laser for this media."

Any ideas on how to solve this problem would be appreciated.

I've recently updated to El Capitan 10.11.5. Since then, my Mac is running very slowly. Help!

Hello

Much easier to troubleshoot why your Mac is slow so after upgrading of the El Capitan if you download and run EtreCheck

Then copy and paste the results in your response.

NO personal data is shared in the report.

This should give us an idea of what is causing the problem.

• MacBook Pro (3-inches, mid-2012) suddenly started running very slowly; Beach balls very common

About a week and a half, it started running very slowly with the spinning beach balls popping up all the time. This reminds me of how when I have too many tabs of the browser as in the past, but now, even with browsers had closed, open Word or Skype is really slow. (I'm sorry for any confusing formulation; I'm not very computer customer connected, unfortunately!)

Some of the things I've tried so far and EtreCheck below):

-safe mode

-detection of hardware problems (control + D)

-reset the PRAM

-using the utility disc for repair/first care; also check

-wipe the hard drive and reinstalling original OS X Lion (was still slow with beach balls; I tried to install OS X El Capitan to see if that would help, but installation could not finish)

-wipe the hard drive and restarting from a backup previous (one month before the problems started)

• Is it possible to stay out of the update string, so I can stay on an earlier version of Firefox as he continues to go very slowly?

Firefox has recently been running very slowly. He uses a lot of memory. I have to close and restart one or two times a day, so I was wondering if there is a way to avoid updates and continue to use an outdated version of Firefox?

Your stay with an outdated version of Firefox leaves you open to specialize, known security holes, but also a potential for bugs and other problems. I'd love to help you solve your problems with Firefox, so you can continue to enjoy and use the latest and most secure version!

First of all, I would like to uninstall all the addons unnecessary and undesirable. Often, issues in Firefox are not at all the problems of Firefox, but are rather a buggy or an addon of misconduct.

In addition, read the article on Firefox is slow.

If you can not Firefox any faster, please let me know.

To change your preferences to update Firefox, read https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Updating%20Firefox#w_how-do-i-configure-update-31optionssf32preferencessf . But remember, this is NOT recommended and may cause more serious problems.

• USB HDD TRAY 1, 5 t: = red light drive lights works very slowly

Hello

It is brand new USB STORE 1, 5 t 3.5 "disk.

Drive normally begins with the red light, initialize and move to blue light. Initially drive works slow - flashing blue when something happens.

... but after a few minutes of use, red light may turn on a moment (for e.g. when new folder is created or some files are copied - then drive works very slowly - it appears when you copy).

After a few seconds, record going to the blue back light - and everything is OK until the switch next to the red.

1 is this normal behavior?
2. What is the meaning of red light when the drive is working?

Thank you in advance.

Hello

I m no owner of this HARD but I have a theory.
According to your information, I think that the red light only appears if data would be written to the HARD disk.
The blue light appears during the reading of data from the HARD drive.

• Portege R100: 4GB SD card works very slowly-> unable to format

Laptop works fine, no problem when using 1 GB SD card. What SD 4 GB inserted PC card works very slowly. Finally, I am able to run the software Toshiba Format SD memory card (download the latest version). It does not seem to recognize the card of 4 GB. Unable to format. When later tried with 1 GB card, everything works fine.

If someone was able to get a 4 GB SD card?

I'm not sure if the laptop software needs a patch, or if the 4 GB card is not fully compatible with SD cards standards, however it was purchased from reputable suppliers.

Graham

Hello

I think that it s nothing wrong with the software, but the SD card is simply not compatible 100%.
In recent times, the SD card sizes are rising rapidly.
I think that the card reader and the software were not intended to manage this big SD card like this.

How to buy an external SD card reader?
These devices are not very expensive and I think the new generation should be able to also handle 4 GB SD cards.

I have the latest firmware (1332) on disk and am running Windows XP Home SP2. Any ideas on what could cause this weird behavior? More importantly, any suggestions on how to solve it would be much appreciated. Cheers, doonyakka

Hello

Have what burning software you tried to install?
In my opinion if you have problems to burn and read DVD burning you should test the DVD from different manufacturers.
As far as I know that could be the problem. I use TDK media and I m very pleased with this CD and DVD

Things you can do to solve the slow Downs

If your computer seems to run slower, here are some things you can do:

Maintenance fast Mac Help.

Start in Safe Mode , and then repair your hard disk and permissions:

Fix the hard disk and permissions before Lion

Boot from your OS X install disk. After the installer loads, choose your language and click on the button continue. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu. After that the charges of THE select your entry from hard drive (mfgr. ID and car size) in the list on the left. In the status area, you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is faulty or has failed. (State SMART is not reported on external drives Firewire or USB). If the drive is "verified", then select your OS X volume in the list on the left (subentries under the entry for the road), click the first aid tab, then click the repair disk button. If THE reports any errors that have been corrected, and then run repair disk again until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, click repair permissions. Wait until the operation is complete, then exit FROM and return to the installer.

Repair the hard drive - Lion-Lion/mountain/Mavericks

HD recovery start:

Restart the computer and after the buzzer, press on and hold down the COMMAND and R until it appears the screen of Menu utilities. Otherwise, restart the computer and after the buzzer, press on and hold down the OPTION key until the Boot Manager screen. Select recovery HD disk icon and click on the button below.

When the recovery menu appears, select disk utility. If THE reports any errors that have been corrected, and then run repair disk again until no errors are reported. If no error is not reported, then click repair permissions. Wait until the operation is complete, then exit FROM and return to the main menu. Select restart from the Apple menu.

Restart your computer normally and see if it helped at all. Then do little maintenance:

For disk utility can't handle situations, the best third party is Disk Warriorutility; Fixed DW only for problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by the corruption of directory; Warrior drive 4.x is now compatible with Intel Mac.

Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will boot Mac running Snow Leopard or earlier. He cannot start Mac that came with Lion or later preinstalled, however, DW will work on these models.

Suggestions for OS X maintenance

OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are supposed to take place on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. Maintenance scripts that are run at the beginning AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep). If this isn't the case, then a great solution is to download and install a shareware like Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacronor Anacron utility that will automate the maintenance regardless of whether activity if the computer is off or asleep. Dependence on third-party utilities to run periodic maintenance scripts has been significantly reduced since Tiger. These utilities have little or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later version, and must not be installed.

OS X automatically defrags files smaller than 20 MB in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files it little need to defragment the hard drive.

Under no circumstances should you install operating MacPaw or ZeoBit software (CleanMyMac/CleanMyDrive or Mac Keeper, respectively.) You don't need special software to keep your computer.

The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.

Difficulty a few pop ups browser that supported Safari

Common pop - ups include a message saying that the Government has taken over your computer and you pay release (often called "Moneypak"), or a false message saying that your computer has been infected and you need to call a number of tech support (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it to be resolved. First of all, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and that your computer has not been assigned. This "hack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so don't pay not money, call number, or provide personal information. This article will give an overview of the solution to remove the pop-up window.

Quit Safari

Usually, these pop-ups will not go by clicking 'OK' or 'Cancel '. In addition, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in grey, including the option to leave Safari. You'll probably force quit Safari. To do this, press command + option + ESC, select Safari, press on force quit.

Relaunch Safari

If you restart Safari, the page will reopen. To avoid this, hold the "Shift" key when opening Safari. This will prevent windows since the last time that Safari was running since the reopening.

It will not work in all cases. The SHIFT key must be maintained at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window is displayed again. In these circumstances, after force quit Safari, turn off Wi - Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then restart Safari normally. He'll try to reload the malicious Web page, but without a connection, it will not be able to. Leave this page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com and try to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet and the page that you entered is displayed rather than the malicious.

If you need antivirus protection Thomas Reed recommends to use ClamXAV. (Thanks to Thomas Reed to this recommendation.)

The user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:

The facts are:

1. There is no anti-malware software can detect 100% of malware out there.

2. There is no anti-malware that can detect all targeting the Mac.

3. the best way to prevent breaches the most is for you as the user is aware that

the most successful malware attacks rely on sophisticated social engineering

techniques preying on human greed, * and fear.

4 Internet pop-up windows telling the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on

your computer is designed to trick you into installing their malware thinking it's a

protection against malware.

5. some of the anti-malware market products are worse than malware

go where they are supposed to protect you.

6. be careful where you go on the internet.

7. don't download anything from sites, you know are safe.

8 avoid links that you receive in email, always be wary, even if you get something

you think a friend is, but that you did not expect.

9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume that it is malware.

Troubleshooting Applications

I recommend that you download a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaneror hiding a Cocktail that you can use to delete the former newspapers and archives, cleaning, etc. Corrupted cache, logs or temporary files can slow down the application or OS X crashes and panics of the kernel.

If you have leopard snow or leopard, then for similar repairs install Applejackfreeware utility. If you do not start in OS X, you can boot into single-user mode , where you can run Applejack to make a set of routines for repair and maintenance of the command line. Note that it takes 1.5 AppleJack for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later versions.

Basic backup

For some people, Time Machine will be more than enough. Time Machine is part of Mac OS X. There are two components:

1. a panel of Time Machine preferences as part of the system of preferences;

2. a request for Time Machine, located in the Applications folder. It's

used to manage backups and restore backups. Time Machine

requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the

drive being backed up.

You can also get an external drive at least equal to the size hard disk internal and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the disk utility's restore option. You can also create and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (the order is not significant):

1 Carbon Copy clone

2. get backup

3 already seen

Additional tips

Make sure you have a sufficient amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run simultaneously. Make sure to leave a minimum of 10% of the capacity of the hard disk as free space.

Add more RAM. If your computer less than 2 GB of RAM and you use OS X Leopard or later, then you can do it with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion works much better with 4 GB of RAM that is their system. Most concurrent applications, that you tend to use the more RAM you should have.

Always have at least 15 GB, or 10% of the capacity of your hard disk as free space, the largest. OS X frequently accesses your hard disk, so offering enough free space will keep things slow down.

Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:

Before Mavericks

Open the activity monitor in the Utilities folder. Select all processes in the drop process . Click the % CPU column heading twice to display in descending order. If find you a process that uses a large amount of time processor (> = 70,) then select the process, and then click the quit icon in the toolbar. Click the force quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Don't forget to mention the name of the runaway process, so you can find the cause of the problem.

Mavericks and later versions

Open the activity monitor in the Utilities folder. Select all processes in the menu display . Click the CPU tab in the toolbar.

This problem occurs often because of a corrupted cache or the preferences file or an attempt to write in a corrupted log file.

• HP 15 laptop: running very slowly

Laptop is running very slowly since the day I bought it. Crash games, flash player crashes several times per day.

I called HP support before and they took over my computer by remote access. They scanned with Malwarebytes and CCcleaner. It does not yet compare with the speed of my old Toshiba with Windows 7, as I earn 8.1 installed on my HP. It takes six or seven seconds to get to a new site when you surf, my videos are constantly trolling and slow reading. I do not have a lot of game and especially surfing.

Any other suggestions?

• Windows 7 and other programs cannot read or burn cddvd

My system not usually read or burn on my cddvdw drive. I'm on a Toshiba Satellite L500D with a TSST TS-L633C, and after I had these problems I installed Toshiba DVD player as well. From Toshiba DVD player can play the discs very well! Nothing else will accept that there is a DVD in the drive ~ including Windows applications and Microsoft themselves. Until I start to play using the DVD from Toshiba drive, the disc in the drive is simply the drive "hunting" or at least that's what it looks like.

I noticed in "Device Manager" this drive has now two drivers that are associated with ~ the pilot Windows and a pilot separated for the reader to DVD from Toshiba. NOTE: This player has been installed AFTER that I started to have problems.

At some point I uninstalled all CDDVDW drive altogether and rebooted the system. Windows recognizes that I had 'new device' and installed his "pilot new as well as the driver Toshiba DVD Player as well. Still no joy in the use of this unit with anything other than Toshiba DVD Player.

Here, anyone has any new ideas?

PS: I ran the Fix Tool from this site with no results!

Rock 'n' Roll-live!

Hello

"A DVD will be recognized by the Toshiba DVD player, but by nothing else in any OS I
on this system. (I have Vista, Windows7, and PCLinuxOS tri-boot.) »

---------------------

Since the 3 operating systems fail to recognize the drive correctly I think that the problem is hardware related.
drive speed, wiring, circuits on the motherboard. Or the real player has a problem. This isn't very
likely that all 3 OS developed a similar problem at the same time, it's why the only things remaining
are the material and the reader. Check the BIOS, although given that it could have been written a glitch
in it.

I hope this helps.

• Decryption BitLocker moving VERY slowly and always taking to copy files - is this normal?

Hi - I'm eager to decipher my drive, and when I clicked on the option to decrypt in Windows 7 Ultimate edition, it began to 17.9%.

Here we are, more than 12 hours later, and we are at 19.3%!
Seriously, it's going to take weeks (or even months) to decrypt this thing? Is it possible to speed it up? Virtually none of my CPU is used - why? It is very disturbing to me because my other hard drive is dying and will not last more than a few days, if that.
In addition to this, I can't just copy the data off of it because it moves very SLOWLY! For example, my drive C (not bitlocked) is able to load all images in a folder with photos instantly. On the bitlocker drive, now, each photo takes 2-5 seconds to load. Amazing! Data transfer looks like 30 KB/s. It would take years to copy. Why is everything that happens at the same time? What's causing the slowdown? The player works wonderfully until I went to decrypt. What a nightmare!

Hello thefoxbox,.

BitLocker has done with encryption? How big are the two disks that you encrypt? Please let us know status.

http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee449438 (WS.10) .aspx

About how long will initial encryption when BitLocker is enabled?

BitLocker encryption occurs in the background while you continue to work and the system remains usable, but encryption times vary according to the type of reader that is being encryption, the size of the disk and the speed of the drive. If you encrypt very large capacity disks, you can set encryption occur during times when you won't be using the drive.

Thanks ydarishy & peter_strange, I just point the programmer SR. is not recommended to use the wire in my workplace. But I think that the wire is the good way to make my faster program because I found that the wire would be used in many places in the Blackberry. Then I would practice the Thread in the test project.

have been changes to the program and use the wire, saw the fastest forward speed. I would add the bar of charge process if necessary of the head. Thanks ydarishy & peter_strange,.
