Reader SuperDrive

A friend of mine recently bought a 21 "iMac, running El Capitan: with an Apple Superdrive.

It is problems.

From what he told me, he used the superdrive - once - to import a CD.

The reader THEN ignored other CDs he is tried in the drive.

DVD, he said, appear perfectly.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Have a Macbook Air Yosemite running.  Reader SuperDrive already worked before but now not read or eject.  I think that there is a DVD in there, but I'm not 100% sure.  In addition, Finder says "Remote Disc" even with the disconnected Superdrive. I don't know if "Remote Disc" refers to the Superdrive or not, I guess it does.  Also, if this thing is dead, how do I out the DVD?

    Try these options:

  • Reader SuperDrive does not burn after upgrade of el capitan

Almost immediately after upgrading a mac mini end of 2014 to el capitan (10.11.2), the superdrive has lost his ability to write DVD. It is recognized by the system and can read DVDs fine, but any attempt to burn files or an ISO image on a disc breaks down.

The superdrive even happily burn on the same media on other macs in Yosemite (I checked several times), but he stubbornly refuses to do it on el capitan. The same mac mini was happily burn DVDs on the same media with the same superdrive on Yosemite, just before the upgrade to 10.11.2.

Now, with el capitan, attempts to burn ISO images fail with the message:

"Error burn image to disc: the disc can't be burned; It might be incompatible with this disc drive. Please, try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a slower speed. »

Burn files fail with the message:

"The disc can't be burned because the device failed to calibrate the power level of laser for this media."

Any ideas on how to solve this problem would be appreciated.

  • Reader superDrive eject a CD

My SuperDrive reads all my CDs very well except one, which it ejects that during some songs. The CD plays fine on my other CD drive so what would be the problem? Thank you.

Slot readers tend to be much more finicky than the disc loading tray. It is likely that the CD has a scratch or loss of the reflectivity than the other CD drive which can handle loading slot machine cannot. If the other CD-player is in a solution of a computer is to copy the CD I did more than once. Another is to try to repair the CD. Look at the silver side and examine for scratches - scratches which cross the CD of the edge in the direction of environment cause more harm than those who go with the circle. (Bad Ray - bows not bad.) You can buy one scratch remover that work sometimes - other times not. I had amazing luck with what looks like an urban legend. Take a banana and Peel. Rub the inside of the skin around the CD and carefully polishing the excess. Others have reported that gel toothpaste also works. Both are temporary fixes. Copy the CD. Note - the United States make a copy for archival purposes is legal. In other countries, is not.

  • Reader superDrive will not read audio CD & DVD of movie most

    Hello

My SuperDrive eject automatically audio CDs and DVDs (movies) after several hours of spinning and slow down.

I tried with a data CD (an old CD - RW Archlinux), it goes successfully and appears in the Finder without problem. And I also managed to write to blank DVDs.

Then recently reset the SMC as explained here: reset of the controller of the steering system (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support , but it has not changed anything.

Now, I'm looking for any command line, I can put in Terminal that gives me information about what is happening.

Is BTW, possible to Flash the firmware of the drive SuperDrive?

Thanks in advance the Apple community

Optical drives of old iMac aluminum is, generally, the first piece of hardware to fail.

Reason, essentially, its orientation in the iMac while exposed to heat internal excessive.

You could try to clean the disc, by the power of your iMac, unplug power, take a credit card, wrapped in a Microfiber cloth to see if you can get one of the dust and dirt on pushing the fabric in and out movement at the same time (wipe off every time you pull out of the slot) until no more dirt won't come off on the canvas. Reconnect your iMac, start your iMac and try the drive again.

If it failed, plan B is to purchase an external optical drive.

The external optical drive made Apple only works with recent Macs who no longer have a disc Super bulit.

If you need an optical drive that works with your year and model Mac, look at these.

Not all optical drives are Mac compatible.
Most Mac compatible hard disks you will find only to buy online.
Here are two on Amazon.com which are inexpensive and compatible Mac

  • Reader SuperDrive plays movies, CDs, but ejects the DVD-R

I am trying to burn a DVD - a first in a long time.  My circa 2010 Mac Pro with Superdrive is eject the DVD-R discs, but fortunately plays DVD movies and CDs.  When you insert a DVD-R, the drive through 2 cycles of what seems to be the reading of the disc, then automatically opens the Superdrive drive door.  No idea what this problem is?

    Thank you.

Try a cleaning disc. different lasers are used for reading and writing CD and DVD, and so perhaps only a dirty laser lens.

Cold otherwise be hardware problem with the drive.

Have you tried a different brand of DVD?

  • Reader SuperDrive does not recognize blank DVD

Have recently upgraded to El Capitan. Since then, I tried to export photos on the drive to put in stock and my DVD burner in my iMac 12.1 will recognize is no longer the DVD when entered into the burner. What is happening now is that the DVD is sitting there for a few moments and then is ejected. It's almost as if the DVD recorder is headed south. Don't know what to do from here, because it reads the CD and DVD normally and also formats and burn the CD. Just DVDs. and I have tried 1/2 dozen of them does not.

Try resetting the SMC reset management system (SCM) controller on your Mac - Apple Support

and the NVRAM How to reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

Try a different brand of DVD.

But as the CDs and DVDs use different lasers inside the car it is not uncommon for a failure and the other to work again.

  • Reader superdrive Apple

  • Reader superdrive USB does not recognize discs

I'm trying to save a file to a CD using my attached to a Macbook Air USB superdrive and when I click Backup I continue to get messages that the drive is empty and enter a valid disk.   I have tried various CD and DVD and can not make a backup.

Because it is likely still in warranty, make an appointment at the Apple Store - Genius Bar store and bring it into service. If you are in the United States or is unable to make an appointment in this way, contact your Apple store.

  • Reader superDrive Burns very slowly on El Capitan

My SuperDrive works very slowly lately when burning data CD.  Tonight that I realized probably started to happen then I upgraded to El Capitan (10.11.1).  I burn lots of CD for my photography business just a few times a month, but when I do, I need to burn 20-30, and the additional delay is very noticeable.  I believe it is 3 x-4 x more to burn.

I use the Burn utility (v 2.5.1 http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/) to around 300-400 MB data CD.  Standard JPEG files.  I haven't changed all parameters of combustion, or do anything else I can associate with the downturn.  Burn the clock ticks down the time remaining and each takes then 2 or 4 real seconds before it changes.

I havn't changed any material etc, so unless the SuperDrive is subject to slow getting older, I don't know what to more El Capitan it might be.

    Any suggestions?

    Ben

To exclude a compatibility issue that happens if you just burn a file directly on a disc do not use your program indicated?  Is it slow or normal?

MacBook Pro (NEW) does not recognize the drive SuperDrive.  Both are new.  Reader superDrive does not appear in the Finder.  I rebooted the computer with the drive connected. No change.  I checked the preferences to make sure that the disc is checked.

What model drive is this? He sold for explicit use on a MBP?

IIRC, in the past, when the first is distributed came out, there was a Superdrive which was for exclusive use on them. Wouldn't work anywhere else.

  • SuperDrive fusion MBA 3 not accepting do not record

    Hello

I am on trial for VMware fusion 3 and I would buy it if it can accomplish my needs for me.  I am trying to install windows software on the virtual machine through my reader superdrive for mac book air.  I run the virtual machine and connect the player, it asks if I would like to plug into OSX or the virtual machine and select the virtual machine.  I see on the virtual computer recognizes the drive and he said: it has been installed successfully.  I can also see that he listed in 'my computer '.  The question I have however is that the reader does not accept disks.  When I put a disk in the superdrive drive, he only will not sucked into the reader, almost as if there is not power.  When I plug the player through OSX instead, it works perfectly if it is not a problem with the drive.  I also tried to hook the reader up to OSX, insert the windows disk and then remove the disk and it reconnect to windows with the disc already inside.  When I do that, as soon as the drive is recognized by the VM, it spits out the disc.  I wish I could get this to work as soon as possible.  Thanks for any help!

EDIT: btw, I am running windows 7 as the virtual machine!  Thank you!

I suspect that the Superdrive want maybe more power that allows the USB specification, and Windows doesn't know how to tell the reader that everything is OK. So in addition to using an image .iso as suggested by WoodyZ, another possibility is to connect the Superdrive as an optical drive as opposed to a USB device. When prompted, connect it to the Mac, and then select the Virtual Machine > CD/DVD > CD/DVD connect.
