Recommendation for hardware iSCSI

Hello everyone,

We are currently virtualizing our infrastructure with VMware Infrastructure 3.5. It is crucial for our company that our servers run under a high availability solution, but due to our budget we can afford expensive Fibre Channel SAN. So wet should stick to the most economic solution available. As far as I know that would be iSCSI, unfortunately we do not have a lot of experience in sans so I would be gladful for some recommendations on prices and products for a large TB iSCSI SAN about 2 base with common characteristics.

I am aware that a general reply of this kind is almost impossible, but it would take at least some suspicion.

Thanks in advance

  • Recommendations for hardware OR with a minimum 6-channel analog output

    Hello world.

Currently I have the NOR-device, USB-6009. However, it offers only up to 2 analog output channels. I'll need to have at least 6 channels of analog output. Therefore, can anyone recommend me any device OR that matches my needs (preference is the USB series)?

    Kind regards

    Jonathan

Did you go to the page data acquisition . You can use the different selection tools to narrow down your choices. Given that you have provided only a single parameter (number of channels), it is difficult to recommend anything. Determine what else you need (sample rate, voltage range, etc.) and you can call your sales engineer OR local and get all the help you need.

  • Recommendation of RAID for Equallogic iSCSI SAN?

We look at a Dell/Equallogic PS6000E with 16 drives of 1 TB, it connects to our servers ESX 2-3 (about 15 virtual machines running) and to a SQL cluster (mainly a SharePoint service workload size).  Dell recommends RAID5, which would give us ~ 12 useful to.  Frankly, if we had used 8TB, that would be fine.  Any recommendations for the best RAID for Equallogics level?

    Thank you

    Chad

If you can really just 8 to, I must say raid 10...   Reference Dell suggests always raid 5 no matter what.

Now best practices is to create several groups of disks with different raid levels for the taste of storage at your fingertips.

You are going to have to make some calls to judgment on how to implement.     I suggest you test conversions PtoV tour and play with the config some before deciding, but I know that it is now possible in most cases.

Dell has an excellent white paper on the table.  It's for the MD3000i, but the raid types and most other info still apply to the DAS or san during raids.

  • Hardware recommendations for make closed?

    Hello

What would you recommend for a small firm rendering for mixed AE projects (for most HD content, with only a few seconds and the layers and the biggest short-projects with multiple layers of HD and up to 15 min or more)

is it better to have more hearts (servers AMD opteron with 48 cores for example) or of performance more by heart but less cores (Intel Xeon servers)?

And how much memory would be optimal?

What can you recommend for the network connection to share stored, how fast it will be?

I like the analogy of evil better than mine. A cow of price vs 20 ordinary cows. The imagery is very clear. In a production environment, where volume counts, more is better then a single top notch one. A single cow can produce so much mik per day, no matter how extraordinary it is.  But 20 can theoretically produce 20 times more (in practice, perhaps from 17 to 18). Quantity, not quality. I'm not saying that you should get shitty material. All good material, not high-performance ones.

As you know, it's not because you buy a computer that costs twice as much, you will get twice the processing power. First of all, forget the dual CPU computers for a render farm, it's not worth. Get a quad core regular. You compare the price vs performance (make a graph), download the CPU which gives you the best bang for the book (just before the curve of Monte price).

Personally, I think 32 GB is overkill in a rendering farm environment. 16GB is more then enough. Remember that you do not have a RAM Preview closes (if such a thing exists), but rather, to split the process of rendering on different computers. 16 GB is good, 2GB is not. But 8 GB can be a good compromise. Remember, you are trying to lower the cost of a computer, you can buy many computers. But the RAM is cheap, so the best bang for the buck, 16GB may be possible. Here again, it depends on other global factors to reduce the price of the computer.

The speed of the network. Yes, you could get 10GB network adapters and a 10GB switch. But who can drive the price considerably. If you can get a good price, great. If this isn't the case, stick to 1 GB. Get a motherboard with 2 x 1 GB NIC onboard, so you can aggregate the network connections for 2GB. You can optionally add a 1 GB PCIe card four on the road. The computer that has the assets of the project must have a fellow quad (or several) card NIC inside. You want to be able to push the media as quickly as possible to the render farm.

Other things to consider... or rather, no. Graphics card is a problem not on a farm. AE is all about CPU. Some mobos come with embedded graphics. Usually, it is cheaper and consumes less energy. You also want to drive down energy costs when you multiply by X number of computers. Just get a KVM solution that will be able to handle X computers. You don't need a RAID on render farm computers. Going to a normal hard disk. I would go even with a green disc that uses less energy.

And according to the number of computers you have, to reduce the footprint, you can get half-height rackmount boxes and put them in a rack.  Also, consider to put in his own room, because it's going to be very noisy!

  • Hardware iSCSI adapter connection problems

    HP DL385 G7 with 2 HP (Broadcom) NC550SFP Dual Port 10 GB adapters. ESXi 4.1 U2

You try to bind material load NC550 adapters to the good network card.  When I list of the HBA association and the NIC.

esxcli - list of server servername swiscsi vmnic vmhba d #.

It displays the physical NETWORK card bad example vmnic0 which is a 1 GB card NETWORK configured as the VM network and network management

I had previously assigned iSCSI Software for the two vmnic adapter in the NC550SFPs.  However when I list the cards for the iSCSI HBA software, it lists each NIC in the system.

Tried to simply bind the correct physical NIC to the iSCSI HBA hardware

    esxcli - add a server servername swiscsi nic - n vmkx d vmhba #.

where vmkx is the physical NIC for the NC550 and the vmhba # is the HBA for the NC550

and it failed with: failed to add a network card

Attempted to delete the incorrect association

esxcli - server servername swiscsi nic remove - n vmkx d vmhba #.

where vmkx is the nic which was displayed in the list for hba named vmhba #.

and he returned: NIC is not bound

Do not know where to go next...

    Hello

In addition my property would be to disable the iscsi Software initiator - you want to use only the hardware iscsi adapters, don't you.

Mixing software and hw adapter is not recommended method here, as far as I know.

  • design for the iSCSI SAN review

    Hi all

I intend to implement a storage shared in our vmware infrastructure. And we'll buy DELL or iSCSCI SAN NETAPP.

Could someone pls review the design of SAN attached. Please note that we do not have a vCenter in the environment. And also we have not yet finalized on behalf of initiator SCSI, whether to use a software or iSCSI HBA for this purpose. Is it worth investing in the hardware initiator. Please suggest.

    Kind regards

    Nithin

To use several vmks iSCSI, you cannot assign two network adapters to the iSCSI vmks.

You cannot have an active nic by vmk and the other the vSwitch network adapter must be moved down to "unused controller. Then you can bind to port in the software iSCSI hba adapter. It is the only way to achieve real multichannel, load balancing and failover for multiple iSCSI vmks.

    Here's a KB on how do: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2045040

But if you google, it has quite a few tutorials with pictures detailed, etc..

  • Implementation of the Suggestion for hardware OLIVIER

    Hi all

We will implement analytic OBIA for Oracle Financials R12.1.3 and Procure and spend analytical.

Source database will be E-Business Suite R12.1.3 where Oracle Financials and acquisition Modules are already being implemented.

We'll go with the last product of press i.e

    OBIEE 11.1.1.6.8 (so far)
    OLIVIER 7.9.6.4
    Informatica 9.1 HF2
    DAC 11g.

Number of users for EBS will be about 500 and number of users for OLIVIER will be around 100.

I need suggestions on the material. What will be the hardware recommended with above products.

There will be more good if you suggest BONE recommended for specific products as well.

    Here is my own suggestion.

There will be a total 4 servers.

1 OBIEE with 16 GB of Ram and 2 x 3 GHz processor, 400 GB hard drive
2 Informatica/DAC server with 12 GB of Ram and 2 x 3 GHz processor, 400 GB hard drive
    3 Informatica/DAC servewith 8 GB Ram and 2 x 3 GHz CPU, 200 GB hard drive
4 Dataware House with 8 GB Ram and 2 x 3 GHz processor, 5 TB hard drive

My suggestion would be more or less on the limits. as I do all of this as a guess.

Yet is there any method to calculate the sizing of the equipment?

    Thank you
    Naeem Akhtar

    Hello

As Abhishek Anand says there is no need to have a server for Informatica / DAC client - Client tools can be installed on the laptop.
I think that configuration OBIEE OBIEE is very good (16 GB, 6 CPU) but your database does not respect the requirement (Minimum recommended: 8 cores minimum CPU - RAM: 8 GB - your configuration: 6 processor cores, RAM: 8 GB).
You can add more CPU and RAM on your configuration (ex: 8 CPU - 16 GB of RAM).

For a study of sizing on your environment OBIA, you must contact an Oracle sales.

    Best regards

  • solution for ESX iSCSI SAN

    Hello.

We are looking into getting a SAN iSCSI for ESX.

On readers, y at - there a big difference between sata and sas and sas 10K vs 15K?

How iSCSI performance are compared to the SAN fiber?

Can you guys recommend an iSCSI solution right?

Excerpt from Dell PS4000 and it seems to be a good product.

(On players, is there a big difference between sata and sas and sas 10K vs 15K?)

Yes, 15 k SAS are faster and a bit more expensive, but worth it!

(How iSCSI performance are compared to the fiber SAN?)

ISCSI SAN is not as fast as the fiber, but compared to the local drive is a big improvement for your applications, users, etc.

(You guys can recommend a good iSCSI solution?)

Personally, I think Dell equallogic are great! PS600XV is what I put in place.

  • configuration of several hardware iSCSI initiators

I have 2 qlogic iSCSI intiators in my 3.5.4 ESX Servers I need to connect to an iSCSI target in a redundant configuration. With the vSwitch network connections it is simple enough, create a vSwitch and group all interfaces NIC that you want to use for this vswitch. The network layer deals with redundancy and load balancing. With iSCSI software initiators, it looks like using the vmkernel from what I've seen in the SAN configuration guide.

Each hardware iSCSI adapter seems to have need it is the own address IP etc... How can I set up redundancy and load on 2 separate hardware initiators balancing?

Initiators of material are a little different, because they have a BIOS configuration aspect as well.  If you want to boot-from-san configuration, you must configure your initiators with their hw bios and set the IPs and the targets and LUNS to boot from BIOS hw.  With other than the boot LUN LUN, they are configured in the same way as the initiator of the sw.  Each card will be visible in the section storage cards.  You access this configuration and configure targets and LUNS on each.  Once you do this, you will see the same LUN via multiple paths, ESX will recognize the LUNS as separate for the same LUN paths and redundancy is achieved.  If your San is active/active, you can split manually which LUN will be accessible through which HBAS and load balance like that.  You will still need the vmkernel port in your vSwitch as the initiator of the software, but instead to simply configure the initiator sw 1, you configure both your HW HBA.

    I agree with Ken,

I run two ESX VM, an interface with Openfiler iSCSI and a vCenter VM on a Dell Latitude D630 with 4 GB of RAM with acceptable performance. Of course, this set up is just to make demonstration offers.

  • What is the display screen color recommended for fine arts

I need to send pictures of my works so, what color recommended for my screen?

Each monitor will interpret according to local settings of RGB. LCD monitor displays colors in this way, by combination of red, green and blue LEDS (light emitting diodes). It is an additive color model in which Red, green and blue are added together in various ways to reproduce a wide range of colors.

You have no control over other peoples screens settings

Make it look good on your is the best you can do.

If you want to print CMYK is a subtractive color model, used in color printing, which you have control of the finished product.
