I then migrated all my information, which using El Capitan, from my old hard drive through Time Machine and now I could not go beyond the gray screen with the Apple symbol and the spinning wheel. Any suggestions?

  You damaged OS X by restoring a backup made with a new version of OS X that you were running at that time here. In any case, from what you say, it seems that you didn't need to install OS X Lion: you can restore the backup directly on your SSD without having to reinstall OS X.

  To do this, Internet recovery includes an option to restore a Time Machine backup. Just boot into Recovery Internet, plug the old hard drive to your Mac, choose the option to restore a backup Time Machine in the "OS X Utilities" window and follow the steps. The SSD will be formatted, your Mac must be up and working soon.

  It seems that one of the update is at the origin of the problem of Internet connectivity. You can follow the steps below and check it it helps you solve the problem.

  Step 1

  You can access to view the history of update on your computer and the Coachman, who was the last update that was installed when this problem occurred and post back the details of the update.

  To view the update history, follow the steps below:

  a. open the control panel (all items view), and click the Windows Update icon.

  b. click on the link to view update history.

  Step 2

  Check out who are the updates which has been installed on the computer before that the problem began, later, uninstall it and check if that helps.

  1. Open installed updates by clicking on theStart button, clickingControl Panel, clickingPrograms and then underPrograms and features, clickingView updates installed. Note the number KB for the updates have been installed before this problem started.
  2. Select the update that has been installed and uninstall the updates one by one and check the update which is at the origin of the problem.

  Step 3

  Once you take note of the update that causes this problem, you can download the stand-alone version of the update on your desktop and try to install it manually and check to see if it helps you to solve the problem of internet access. To download the standalone version of windows updates follow the steps below:

  a. take note of the update with the Ko only when your computer tries to update and install it.

  b. visit the following Microsoft Web site:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx

  c. search by downloading the update.

  d. save it on the desktop.

  e. try to install it manually.

  If the problem persists after you have installed the stand-alone version of update, you can try to start the computer in safe mode with network and check if you can connect to the internet and post back the result. To boot to the desktop in safe mode keep tapping key F8 during restart. Once you see the option to start it in safe mode with select network and press ENTER.

  Start up your Mac in Mode without failure.

  Upper left corner of your screen, click on the Apple  > Shut Down.

  After your Mac stops, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.

  As soon as you hear the startup tone, hold down the SHIFT key . You must press the SHIFT key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.

  Release the SHIFT key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.

  Then start while pressing the command + R keys to access internet recovery to restore the OS X.

  Just to let you know, you don't need to wipe the drive using disk utility in your Applications / Utilities first folder. Only use OS X Recovery

  to reformat and restore the OS X.

  I hope that you could recommend an appropriate solution to the following situation:

  I have a client who would like to be able to occasionally monitor how his team uses the Internet - essentially the sites they visit and how much time they spend on these don't sites... no detailed report would be necessary, only occasional monitoring. Obviously, their PIX 501 must be the source of information... I guess that there is an app out there (commercial or freeware) which would collect & analyze the logs of PIX and translate them into a form that is easily understandable and advise the use of the Web.

  All recommendations / advice will be MUCH apprechiated!

  It does not solve the DNS and it connects on the WHOIS database of reports to resolve outside IPs, you can set how long to keep the Cache DNS TTL (helpdful with internal clients of DHCP). If you access the web site, they show a sample report on request. You can customize reports to show a specific traffic/events. Also, you can analyze the traffic for individual IPs and each report has links to explain the Syslog events. You can have the report sent on an hourly basis.

  I understand your message you are trying to boot a MacBook (2008) for OS X Internet Recovery but it is not successful.  This happens because this year and model of Mac does not support the OS X Internet Recovery:

  Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery

  What version of Mac OS X is currently installed? In the menu bar select  > what the Mac and you should see the version of OS X installed.  If she has OS X 10.6.8 or more, then there is no OS X Recovery, and you will need the installation disk OS X, or the disc that came with the computer to erase the disk and reinstall OS X. You will need to insert the disc while the Mac is turned on, and then restart while holding the C key to boot the disk.
