Regarding switch SAN

Recently, we bought 2 Cisco SAN switch. Part configuration remains at the side of the customer. I have not yet used. Need ideas for payment of fees.

They already have 2 storage SAN, 4 physical servers and they want SAN on HA.

We have 12 ports on two SAN license and we have 24 SFP connector

From what I have learned, it is we don't have to stack cable for HA. We can do this by using the LC connector.

Also read VSANS, Zones and port channel. Why do we need to VSAN, port and canal zone.

Why do we actually use SFP and LC cables? I am told that the STS can run to 8 Gbps. Prices SFP LC times to a faster speed.

How can I configure SAN to work properly?

  • UCS Fiber Channel FI for San switch wiring & config

My question is about the correct wiring & vSAN configuration by the UCS FI switch San (Cisco MDS).

Currently my wiring is as follows:

    Fi1 port 25 - SW1 port 3

    Fi1 port 26 - SW2 port 3

    Fi2 port 25 - SW1 port 4

    Fi2 port 26 - SW2 4 port

On the side of the switch San, our guys of storage configured vlan10 SW1 and SW2 as vlan20. For this reason, I was not able to have a vSAN by FI, I read is recommended, because the VLAN switch cross FIs. Now, when I created vHBAs I have 4 vHBAs per server, 2 by IFS by vlan if I want redundancy with a switch or a loss of FI.

Question: Is this the correct configuration on the side of the SAN switch? Do I actually create 4 vHBAs per server? I do not have my incorrect wiring & I should just be linking FI1 to SW1 on two ports & FI2 to SW2?

Help or advice would be appreciated!

    ~ Tara

    Hi Tara,

There are two ways of wiring of your SAN infrastructure.  It boils down to a design decision. Traditionally the SAN admins prefer to keep their separate/isolated tissue.  In this design THAT MDS-1 only connect to FI - A and MDS-2 would connect only to the FI - B.

Another option is to connect each MDS at each END.  This gives each FI SAN fabric access and allows to create double VSANS (that exists on each FI) rather than separate them.

You don't need four vHBAs by UCS Server - some adapters support no more than two in any case.   What you do is create two vHBA by the Service profile, each host will have access both to VSAN 10 and 20.  What you can do is to shift your tissue of vHBA while 1/2 access your Service VSAN 10 via FI - profiles and the other half access VSAN 10 FI - B.  This will help to distribute the load accordingly.

    E.g.

    First 1/2 of SPs

    vHBA0 - VSAN10 - fabric-A

    vHBA1 - VSAN20 - fabric-B

    1/2 second of SPs

    vHBA0 - VSAN20 - fabric-A

    vHBA1 - VSAN10 - fabric-B

As you can see a bit of a manual balancing can act.  The best scenario would be to isolate (re-cable) to your network SAN fabrics according to the traditional SAN design above.

  • Paths always down after returning from a SAN switch at the service

I had a problem where electricity is cut to one of my SAN switches.  Everything continued to work because all the hosts and storage are connected to a second switch SAN.

Now that powered the SAN switch back on all paths through the SAN switch are still displayed as out of service.  If I reboot a crowd she restores all of its path through two switches SAN so there is nothing wrong with the zoning on the switch.  I see that the ESXi host host bus adapters connected to the SAN switch, even without reboot, when I do a switchshow (using Brocade switches) and I see that the configuration is correct.

I tried a new analysis of the HBA, and this removes the paths through the HBA that is connected to the switch that loses power!

I tried to reset the HBA to get to do a reset of the LIP by publishing: -.

esxcli fc san storage reset - a < hba >

    for example

esxcli fc san storage reset - a vmhba1

and tried to change the State of the railways in assets with

    esxcli storage path together - State = active - path < path-runtimename >

    for example

esxcli storage path together - State == active - path vmhba1:C0:T1:L1

None of them have helped and I don't want to resort to restart the host, there must be a better way to bring these paths.

I use ESXi 5.5 build 1474528.  Want to really upgrade to update 1 immediately.

I have the advanced of that setting Misc.apdhandlingenable set to 1 and Misc.APDTimeout value 140.  The switch would have been off for more than 140 seconds.  I could try to set Misc.APDHandlingEnable to 0 and simulate the failure once again, but I'm not sure I want to do this because I remember issues with ESX(I) 4.x hosts becoming disconnected from vCenter following situations of CCA.

    Any suggestions?

I followed it down to the driver used by the Fibre Channel adapter.  I had to update 10.0.100.1 - vmw.550.0.0.1331820 10.0.725.203 - 1OEM.550.0.0.1331820.

The hosts have been using Adapters Emulex LPe16000 (IBM rebadged in an IBM Flex System).  See 5.5 ESXi hosts don't restore not path storage from the SAN switch failure. Computer services Pelicano so all the details.

  • New Test for SAN environment

    Hello

I want to configure a test environment of SAN. Currently, I have 2 ESX host and switch San Q logic and a machine with 2 TB of storage in this regard. I just want to test if I could create a SAN storage and I both ESX hosts point to storage using the fiber cable. Is there an inexpensive way to do it? I know openfiler using iSCSI, but I want to test using fiber channel.

    Thank you

Download and test with the V6 DSS 4550 version and when you create a set of logical volumes CF the size block to be 512K and then go to the nursery to target CF in the graphical interface of the Configuration tab make sure to set the Qlogic FC HBA mode target since the GUI configuration > Fiber Channel then restart the system. You don't need a Swtich CF so you don't want that you can directly connect the FC HBA to each other. Hope this helps and thanks for watching Open-E!

  • Global vs FIC VSAN specific on NGC

What is the difference and therefore the impact of the creation of a global VSAN (VSAN noticeable to both fabric interconnect) rather than creating a VSAN FIC - A and FIC - B-specific?

I create Global and then assign one to vHBA - a FIC - A and the other to vHBA-b on FIC - B.

Also, with the FC Switching (UCS 1.4) this (set) get worse?

    Aida,.

This comes down to design.  Most people like to keep their completely separate SAN fabrics.  Unlike in the passage where the uplinks are crisscrossed every way imaginable for redundancy, in the CF world, that's all that separates your fabrics.  For this you would normally connect a FI to a single switch SAN (fabric-A) upstream and the other END to their other (fabric (B).  You would create the VSAN on the fabric of interconnection rather than overall as you do not need two available on the two FI VSANS.

Another approach is to create in the world, but in this design, need you either a link between each FI and SAN EACH switch or use VSAN circuits (assuming the two VSANS exists on both the SAN upstream switches). The complication here is when you set your vHBAs, you must assign them to a VSAN on A or b.  It is a hard hairpin and offers benefits without hot spare. There is no failover with CF as there is for the Ethernet (aka Fabric Failover).  All CF redundancy is managed at the level of the BONE by multipathing drivers.

The first design keeps your CF much more simple and deterministic access.  You know that all vHBAs connected to the fabric Interconnect-A go to VSAN X, and all the vHBAs related to the fabric Interconnect-B go to VSAN Y.  This is assuming that you're only using two VSANS for your environment.

The only time wherever you need FC switch mode is if you plan use direct attach FC/FCoE tables with your interconnections.  There is no increase in complexity here regarding the VSAN design, same best practices apply.

  • VMware VShpere 4 and segmentation VLan

    Hello everyone

I'm new on the VMware environment.  In the next few weeks a team of engineers with various level of experiece in VMware will get together to design my site based on vSphere VMware infrastructure 4.  The installation will include a SAN (dell Equilogic).

At the present time, I have a VLAN different set up to segment existing buildings, servers, routers, switches, etc..  I'm a little curious about the best methods of practice regarding the san VLANing and the envireonment of vmware (IE...  Devotion needs its own VLAN.  storage needs its own virtual local network...).  If the colleagues there could provide some guidance, or point me to a few documents that expand on the appropriate use of v - El as it will apply to the SAN and Vsphere would be greately appreciated.

  • Configuration series pump syringe ONLY-1000

    Hello everyone,

For my graduation project, I find how to connect a syringe ONLY-1000 pump (the brand is Prosense). I tried to connect through the RS-232 input on the back of the pump (one with 5 points of connection on the top line and 4 in the lower row) to the USB of the PC input.

This PC is an ASUS EEE (not my first choice, it is pretty slow), but it doesn't have the RS-232 socket. So, it looks like this:

    PC--> USB--> RS - 232--> shoot-syringe

The PC detects "new hardware" but impossible to install them due to lack of information. When I open MAX I can only find an unknown device, what VISA test panel can not be opened, prompting an error:

    "

    Error opening resource:

    ARSL 10: INSTR

VISA (HEX: 0xBFFF0011) location insufficient information or the device or resource is not present in the FAT32\

    "

The installed version of LabView is version of 2013.

Does anyone have experience with programming series in LabView? Maybe I need a PC with RS-232 instead of the USB port?

Any help or advice would be appreciated a lot.

    Kind regards

    San

    Hi guys,.

First of all, thanks for the offer, but I'm not interested. I think the purpose of this forum is to find a solution for the problems that are are using LabView, rather than work around the problem.

However, I found the solution for this problem.  After all, this is the driver for the USB-RS232 converter that could not be installed. So I bought a new converter with which I have installed the software. It is the electronic converter König (bar code 5412810074822). After installing the driver (which came with a small cd) and restart the PC Max recognized ports and there was not yet any necessary configuration.

  • How to determine if an exe has been installed?

    Gurus:

    I have Windows 7 and Norton-Anti-anti-virus/firewall.

I came across a strange pop-up message when I logged in to my computer today. A pop-up window, said that "do you want to install \SYSWOW\MAClean.exe (not sure the path or the name of the exe)? While I was doing research on it using another computer, he disappeared. What is one-sided, I don't think any exe with MA*.exe in the computer. My computer also seems to be suspended during indexing - it connects normally - no delay - if I remove the wireless connection. other times, he connects very well, even with the wireless connection is ON.

    My questions are:-

    (1) how to determine if an exe has been installed ("I see not all facilities in uninstall it or change of program" window in the control panel)?

    (2) is it possible to list out all messages 'Alerts' or 'Popup' that appears on the screen?

    Best regards

    San

    HI San,

Thanks for posting your question on the Forum of the Microsoft community.

This can happen if the corresponding .exe file is associated with a program that is installed on your computer. To check the instance of the file, you can check in the list of programs and features in Control Panel. Apart from this, it can be due to an infection by the virus.

To know different alerts and notifications, you can open the Action Center in Windows and check important notifications or the needs of Windows to accomplish tasks. To do this, please refer to the following location: Start > Control Panel (see: large icons) > Action Center.

Also, you can also check error messages in the event viewer for more information.

(Click Start, type Event Viewer in the Start Search and press ENTER.)

To check the program third party or service by giving pop-ups/alerts, you can start the computer in a selective startup with no third-party software in operation. This process is known as a clean boot.

  • JDBC: thin gives error mystery

    Hi all

I'm using Oracle 11 G and I have a java clause that is used to connect the other DB and extract the data. Here is my Echappementjdbc

ORA-01017: name of user and password invalid. connection refused

But I can't able to connetc with Sql developer, using the same user name, password, HOST, port, and DB Service name .

Could help me solve the problem.

    Kind regards

    San.

We have fixed the problem. This
is an Oracle Bug, please see the Oracle note for reference below.

    Connection to the external database
Oracle Jvm using the Jdbc thin driver server-side throws Ora-01017 (Doc ID
    1303712.1)

    Applies to:

Version - JDBC: 11.2.0.1 and later [Release: 11.2 and later]

Information in this document applies to any platform.

    Symptoms

A Java stored procedure using the JDBC/thin driver side server to connect to
    another database.

When Java code is deployed on a pre - 11 g of the side database server
    JDBC/thin connection works very well.

Once the Java code is deployed on a 11.2 the database-side JDBC/thin server
failed to connect with ORA-01017: name of user and password invalid. connection refused

If the Java code is executed on an external JAVA virtual machine connection works fine.

Despite the error ORA-01017 it was determined that the user name and
password are correct, and that it is not a matter of case sensitivity.

    Cause

    Corruption with the JIT
    compiled version of Java code.

    Oraclei¿½
    The database Java Developer's Guide

    11g Release 1 (11.1)

    Part number B31225-05

"Overview of the JITStarting JVM Oracle with Oracle 11 g release 1 (11.1),
There's a just-in-time (JIT) compiler for Oracle JVM environment. A JIT
for Oracle JVM compiler allows much faster execution, because it manages the
invalidation, recompilation and code without an external storage
mechanism. Based on profiling data collected dynamically, this compiler
seamlessly selects the Java methods to compile to native machine code and
dynamically make them available for Java sessions running. In addition, the
compiler can take advantage of the Oracle JAVA virtual machine class model to
possibly persist methods Java compiled in the database of calls, sessions, or
instances. This persistence avoids unnecessary recompilations overload
through sessions or instances, when we know that semantically the Java
    code has not changed. "

    Solution

    Workaround solution:

    change the system
    java_jit_enabled = FALSE;

This allows the JIT code to be bypassed, by simply interpreting the Java
the code that is generated by bytecode, rather than using the JIT.

There is no need to re - compile Java code. Just run the command above

and repeat the Java stored procedure.

To restore the functionality of JIT just do:

    change the system
    java_jit_enabled = TRUE;

    Solution:

Delete all the lines in the java table $ mc$ and restart the database

The java$ mc$ table stores the persistent version of the JIT code generated
for performance reasons. remove this code apparently requires the JIT to
    regenerate the code.

  • Features of VMware

Hi, I have a few questions about VMware ESXi 6

    1. can I vmotion storage and host of a cluster of version 5.5 for a cluster of version 6 (im using vcenter 6 to manage the cluster 2)

    2. on my cluster of version 5.5, 2 servers are connected directly to a storage of Clarion. Now, they have created a cluster of version 6 which has 3 hosts.

The customer wants the same data store to be seen on the new 3 servers (all will be done via switch SAN zoning) (2 servers on cluster version 5.5 and Clarion storage will be attached to SAN pass)

If, after the zoning, if I perform a rescan on the servers in cluster 3 version 5; will they see data warehouses and the virtual machines on the Clarion storage or they reformatted data warehouses after a rescan it and adding data warehouses?

    Thank you!

    1. Yes, you can migrate the virtual machine for 5.5 vSphere vSphere 6.0.

    2. just rescan for VMFS storage adapter that it will list you the LUN formatted by vSphere5.5. It won't have data loss at all and vSphere 6.0 will detect the VMFS.

  • HBA status dead

    Hello

We have recently updated our infrastructure Vmware 4.1. We have moved our 12 hosts and virtual machines to vSphere Client 4.1 and, so far, 3 of our hosts are up to 4.1, the rest will be done during the coming week.

Everything is working very well and not have no problem.

Looking more into it I noticed something under Configuration/storage adapters. We have 2 cards PCI Express HBAS are listed for each host.

When you click on Vmhba2 then path status is all assets (green)

When we click on Vmhba1 then paths that the status should say Eve but also died to come back

I tried to find what I can on Google but not lucky to have.

So I turned again to the VMware communities for help site.

    I've attached screenshots of it

If you need more information please let me know

    (hope this makes sense)

    Thank you.

    Austin.

Try to rescan on the configuration storage tab-->

Sometimes the vcenter paths does not reflect the current state. I've seen this before. After a new analysis, if all things are set up correctly (best to check the switch SAN zoning, State of connectivity,...), you will get back your way.

Just to confirm this, you can run

    esxcfg-mpath - l | grep-i State | grep dead-i

You should not see any path of death, if you see then you see a real problem.

Then, you have to go back and see the status of end-to-end connectivity.
