Reinstalled vista now the modem does not work, says the modem is already in use. Modem does not appear in the material...

Vista Basic with dial-up. I reinstalled vista and now the modem will not work with any of the numbers given by my provider. He throws error numbers (Sorry didn't write them) and said that the modem is already current usage or other computer is busy. The modem does not appear in the lists of material and reinstallation does not work. The computer does not recognize when a new modem is installed either. I use the same drivers provided with the computer when I got it.

  • Failure to reinstall Vista, now my laptop will not boot.

Hi, first off thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720, which I've tried to reinstall Vista, installation seemed to go fine until what seemed the last step where it says "installation complete" how it seemed to make no progress even after a few hours.  Then, I turned off my laptop and rebooted.  Once restarted, it I got a message saying that the installation has failed and it had rendered Vista how it was before the installation.  Then I tried to install Vista for a second time and had the same thing happen, the only difference being that the first time when asked if I wanted to connect to the internet to get updates when installing I said no, and the second time, I said yes.

After the installation failed for the second time I tried to restart and my laptop could not start, she doesn't have to the Windows screen with the Green scroll bar on the bottom.  I then tried to start in safe mode, and it failed when trying to load crcdisk.sys.  I read that some people with similar problems have been able to boot from the Vista cd, but I had no chance.

The cd I use is a condition by Dell that says that it is the reinstallation of Vista cd and I have to mention that the optical drive in my laptop stopped working earlier, to remedy this I used an external drive connected via USB.

I'm stumped on how to solve this problem and what information I found via google has not worked or confuse me helped me more.

  • Reinstalled Vista, now it cannot find a system volume that meets the criteria for installation

OK, I caught a virus really bad and had to reinstall vista.  I have 4 hard drives on my computer. When I was going to do a fresh stall of my cd of Vista 64-bit, the first thing I did was to reformatt all my hard drives but the one with the files I wanted to save on this. Now, the problem comes when I try to select a hard drive to install vista, I get a message that says "windows cannot find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation"!  I get this message on each of the hard drives that I tried to install it.  These are the same drives exact I had at first and installed vista on several times before with no problems.  I even deleted the drives and tried repartioning them and always got the same message. Help, please!

OK, for anyone else who might encounter this problem, the solution is to disconnect all but one of the drives that you want on your computer.  Make sure you leave the one you want installed on connected windows and then do the installation. Subsequently, you can reconnect to the rest of your hard drives. !

  • How to reinstall vista on the recovery drive D?

About 2 years, a Sunday, my hard drive crashed and I was totally novice in time (as much as now, more I forgot the documentation provided with it, my "old" laptop Gateway) so I called a computer repair place listed on Craigslist (no classes please) and said that they could fix and I should just bring him.  Well, I need desperately so I took ("in" is a private home).  Hours later, I got a call that it has been fixed.  They did replace some hardware and the computer was working again, but they gave me the 'good news' that he had thrown an installation of Windows 7 free of charge.  I wasn't happy, but as I quickly bought a new computer with Windows 7 on it anyway, I learned to love it.  With a new laptop, I don't use it much anyway.

A hinge fails to my 'new' HP laptop and a COMPUTER technician who is a friend is fixing to me.  In the meantime, I have to use this "old" laptop.  He began to act up and I did a system restore, which did not help.  I have recently met a disc of the operating system for this 'old' computer and it's a good thing because little time after the system restore, I received continuous messages of MSE I wasn't "authentic" Windows  It got really teed OFF... some good news-free-install, right?  I certainly didn't use software counterfeit... the only inconvenience factor is more than enough for me to come back on the right path.

I decided to re - install my real honest to-God-Vista from the bridge of the operating system disk included.  I never had anything like the front and of course, when I was asked where to put the installation, I wasn't sure and so I put it on the C drive, thinking (just think) that things could spill over into the D recovery drive.  He does something like that.

I tried to go through the steps I used to re - install Vista but it doesn't seem to want to pay attention from now to the OS disk when I use F10 at startup.  What can I do to get this on the recovery disk?  I think it should be there.

I've already replaced all sorts of files, etc. from the backup I made before I did the re-install, if that makes a difference any.

Please give me some instructions to get my OS on my D recovery drive files.  Thank you.

    Hello

You can't put it on the recovery disk (Partition); end of the story.

Your recovery Partition on your hard drive was photographed during the production of your computer by the manufacturer.

If it is destroyed, removed, etc., damaged you cannot replace / reinstall or repair.

    You have the DVD anyway.

    See you soon.

  • Reinstalled Vista. The windows is genuine, but I don't have the activation code. What should I do?

I bought the laptop in 2006. The windows is genuine, but I don't have the activation code. What should I do? I installed vista and because I had no code after about 4 weeks it will stop. I'm up, but its prompting me to activate again. Help, please! This has been a good laptop and will continue to be if I can get help with activation.

Original title: old Dell laptop broke down.

    Hello

You can contact Dell and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks and to reinstall the operating system.

They should do this for a small fee.

If this method has not been destroyed by the last re - install, and if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

With a Dell, you press F8 at startup and follow the instructions

    http://www.Dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?docid=266618

The methods above resettlement generally do not require allows you to provide a product key during Installation, the recovery process uses the Installation product key factory to activate automatically during the resettlement process.

    See you soon.

    Hey

I dual-boot (running Windows Vista & Win7) and if I delete Windows Vista can I reinstall Windows Vista with my recovery CD?
And I have another drive on my computer for recovery Partition so I can use my recovery CD to reinstall Windows vista if I want once I got rid of him and would it erase my win7 disk or remove the duel boot?

You can use the recovery disk to reinstall Vista on your laptop but as Luke mentioned, the recovery disk would format the whole HARD drive. It would erase all partitions on the HARD drive and you will lose also the installed Win 7!
