Failure to reinstall Vista, now my laptop will not boot.

Hi, first off thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720, which I've tried to reinstall Vista, installation seemed to go fine until what seemed the last step where it says "installation complete" how it seemed to make no progress even after a few hours.  Then, I turned off my laptop and rebooted.  Once restarted, it I got a message saying that the installation has failed and it had rendered Vista how it was before the installation.  Then I tried to install Vista for a second time and had the same thing happen, the only difference being that the first time when asked if I wanted to connect to the internet to get updates when installing I said no, and the second time, I said yes.

After the installation failed for the second time I tried to restart and my laptop could not start, she doesn't have to the Windows screen with the Green scroll bar on the bottom.  I then tried to start in safe mode, and it failed when trying to load crcdisk.sys.  I read that some people with similar problems have been able to boot from the Vista cd, but I had no chance.

The cd I use is a condition by Dell that says that it is the reinstallation of Vista cd and I have to mention that the optical drive in my laptop stopped working earlier, to remedy this I used an external drive connected via USB.

I'm stumped on how to solve this problem and what information I found via google has not worked or confuse me helped me more.

Thank you
-Mike

If you continue to have problems with the process of recovery of Dell, contact Dell.

It's their recovery process, NOT from Microsoft.

Here's how to use their recovery process:

Dell recovery options:

Above is Dell to reinstall Vista from the DVD on your computer.

And that way if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive.

  • HP ENVY 17-j020us Quad Edition: installed SSD and Windows 7, now the laptop will not boot

I replaced my hard drive Windows 8.1 with a PNY 240 GB SSD and Windows 7 64-bit.  Everything worked very well! Installed all the drivers, everything has worked very well!  Restarted several times, everything worked fine!  Portable stop for the night, the next morning I turn on the laptop and get this error message:

"not found boot device, please, install an operating system on your hard disk, hard disk 3F0".

I've traveled different repair procedures using the ERD Windows 7 without change.  I have reinstalled Windows 7 with SSD formatted as GPT drive, received the same error message:

"not found boot device, please, install an operating system on your hard disk, hard disk 3F0".

I have reinstalled Windows 7 SSD formatted as MBR disk withs, received the same error message:

"not found boot device, please, install an operating system on your hard disk, hard disk 3F0".

I removed the SSD to the laptop and placed in a desktop pc, pc works fine, no problem with the SSD.  SSD in laptop, got the same error message: "boot device not found, please install an operating system on your hard disk, hard disk 3F0".   I don't know where to go from here.

    Help please...

Okay, I'm running.  In the System Configuration UEFI clicked 'Load HP Factory Default keys', this restored "Secure Boot" who has restored the laptop as long as you work!  Thanks for the help.

  • Data loss while reinstalling Vista on HP laptop or not!

    Hi all!

Possession of HP laptop, I wonder: there are two installed partitions: partition D recovery C - and that contains my files and installed the program (including Windows Vista itself).

Question is: If my computer would have no problem and I have to reinstall Vista, I lose all my data on the C drive.

If SO, what is a sollution to divide the C drive on two partitions.

Thanks in advance for your answers! And a good day!

Yes, you will lose all THE data stored on the C drive.  The best way to protect your data is to perform regular/differential backups to an external hard drive or online storage company.

I have deleted 1 of 3 users on XP Pro.  The program allowed me to save the contents to a folder on the desktop, I did.  I checked the desktop, all data file and pix were there. Then I rebooted.  Open my user account.  All icons were present, but empty, no program.  Go to START - programs, all programs present but empty.  Could not run any program.  I restarted again, and after the Dell startup screen, the screen is black.  Cannot start in safe mode, will not open windows.  I have an XP Reinstall disk but not a recovery disk.

  • Installation: Windows Vista Service Pack 2... Now my computer will not boot

After you install SP2, my computer starts is no longer.

When I turn it on, it brings me to a black screen where I can choose to start windows normally or let windows search for a solution to the problem. I tried both - NOTHING WORKS.

I tried to restore my computer to an earlier date, let windows search for a solution, everything you can possibly do on the options list. Whenever I have let windows start normally, it brings me to a black screen that says "!" 0 x 0000034! "177/76190 (_0000000000000000.cdf - ms).

I am extremely frustrated. It seems that Microsoft has ruined my computer. Looks like I'm about to become a defender-apple... Unless this issue is resolved as soon as possible.

Have you tried the system restore, without success.

See if that will fix your problem:

Download the ISO on the provided link and do a repair of the disc.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.

It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

  • Had to go to the WPA to get connection Nook. Now the laptop will not connect.

Newly acquired Nook Color would not recognize connection WEP. So I spent the Bureau for the WPA. Now laptop said little or no connectivity. Can the corners as well and portable live in this environment? If so, how?

It's a good thing.  WEP is near useless for what is security is these days.

Connect to a router, or using ad hoc wireless to share the Internet connection belonging to the office?

Most wireless routers require that all devices use the same encryption level.  Some newer routers can allow a mixture of WPA and WPA2, but as far as I know, none allow the WEP and WPA at the same time.  If you use a wireless adapter in the Office for an ad hoc wireless network, I'm sure that without these adapters allow the WEP and WPA.

Change your laptop in WPA too.

You may need to remove the connection recorded first in order to make this change. Assuming you use Windows to configure the adapter to the laptop wireless (and more far assuming that the laptop is running XP sp2 or greater), the procedure is as follows:

    • Open network connections (start > run > ncpa.cpl > OK)
    • Right click on the wireless adapter icon and select Properties
    • Click the "Wireless Networks" tab
    • Select your network wireless from the list of "Preferred networks", then click on the button Delete
    • OK your way out

Now find your wireless network in the list of available wireless networks, click connection and enter the WPA password when you are prompted.

I use Windows Security Essentials OK, but Windows Defender is DISABLED and cannot be turned on. What should do?

Windows Defender is part of the Vista operating system. It cannot be uninstalled, nor can you install another fresh copy in the system. This Windows Defender lives and dies with the operating system.

It is called Microsoft Security Essentials, not Windows Security Essentials.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentilas) is supposed to close Windows Defender.
This is because MSE has his own Defender. Run 2 defenders in the same machine allows to create conflicts.

Therefore, it is normal to find widows Defender NOT enabled if you installed MSE.

You don't have to do a thing. So be.

If you want Windows Defender turned on because you want to access with the startup programs, here's another way without using Windows Defender...

Start button in the search box, type msconfig... Enter... click on start up tab... Here is the list of your startup programs.

With a HP Compaq, you would normally press F11 at startup to start the process of recovery back to factory settings, as you never received a disc.

All data are lost during this process.

  • Computer HP8710p laptop will not boot at all

I have a laptop of HP8710P under Windows 7 SP1 that does not start on battery, adapter sector or docking station.  There are no blue screen, no hard drive, no fan activity activity.  I reinstalled the battery, hard drive and RAM.  When I try to turn it on, the light above the number keys blink, but then go out immediately. The only light that stays on is the battery on the front indicator. Any help will be appreciated.

The answer I found seems to be the battery.  After I replaced the battery of the laptop starts fine.  When I installed the battery on another 8710p, this is the same thing.  The battery seems to be a short circuit on the circuit somehow.  Thanks for the help.

  • Laptop will not boot after Dell logo.

Yesterday, I tried to start my Dell Inspiron 17 laptop. I bought about three years ago and have not had any problems start to date. When I press the power button, the Dell logo appears and then nothing happens. I removed the battery and held the power button down until delete static. I also tried F2, SATA has changed, but that has not worked. Then I tried to run the diagnostics, but I got a black screen. How can I fix this, or is something broken?

There's your answer - the hard drive is bad (the boot sequence hangs on the black screen because it can not find the bootstrap on the drive to continue.

Reinstall the drive (you will need a new, 2.5 "SATA laptop drive - hard drive, drive hybrid or disk solid state drive) that is 9.5 mm or thinner) and reload the OS (from the recovery media if all goes well, you did when you received the system) and you'll be all set.
