Remove diskgroup failure of vSAN got out '' Operation timed. ''

We have experienced two incidents of "permanent disk failure" in the last three months, that has happened on two Micron SSD cards on two different hosts (almost all new material in respect of vSAN HCL).   Application of the micron shows that disks are healthy. So far, the only explanation I got from Vmware is ' this seems to have been a temporary hiccup ".

Right now I can't even remove the defective diskgroup (vSAN is configured as manual disc claiming () , I put this host mode of maintenance, rebooted, it, then tried to remove the "defective" SSD drive, so I can remove the diskgroup, but it still fails with "operation timed out".

Now I remember, the last time I had this problem of "permanent drive failure", I had to physically remove the SSD card out of the host, then I can remove the diskgroup. I wonder if it's the only way to do it?

tempted to follow VSAN part 16 - the recovery disc for other uses - CormacHogan.com to erase just the partiton of vSAN now. (all virtual machines are migrated already of this host when I turned it in maintenance mode).

Now becomes very frustrated with vSAN.

Thanks Chogan.

The SR number is 16865002201. I just had a long webex with support Vmware Jesse, it is very useful.

We tried weapon of wipeout for the 'secret' disk in Vmware, but it also did not work. Finally, we used Micron rssdm application to ensure erased the disc, then rebuilt in the diskgroup.

Now our vSAN is back to normal.

    Hi kilicool,

    Welcome to the community.

Have you tried to reboot the VC Server? If Yes

In turn, before adding the host ESX VCS try to restart the management

The agent that is running on ESX.

    CLI: service mgmt-vmware restart

If this does not work I would say adding VC to the host, but I think that the

  • vSphere high availability 'Élection' fails at 99% 'operation timed out' to 1 of the 2 hosts

    Hello

We had a system with 1 host ESXi 5.1 with local disks.

Now, we install redundancy by adding a 5.5 U2 ESXi host and a device of vCenter 5.5.

After having installed and any addition to vcenter, we went the ESXi 5.1 to 5.5 U2 ESXi. The SAN works correctly (vMotion works on the own NETWORK card).

Now, if I try to activate the high availability, both servers will install the HA Agent and start "Election".

All the warehouses of data (4) on the SAN are chosen for the HA heartbeat, response of isolation is "keep it turned on" by default.

A server will always be this process done, and the other will keep "elect" until it reaches 100% and errors on the operation "election timed out.

I've seen this problem on both servers, so I think that the 'master' elected does not have the problem, only the "slave".

I have checked these items and executed, but not worked:

VMware KB: Reconfiguration HA (FDM) on a cluster fails with the error: operation timed out

    -The services were running

VMware KB: Configuration HA in VMware vCenter Server 5.x does not work, error: Operation Timed out

-All the MTU has been set at 1500

VMware KB: VMware High Availability Configuration fails with the error: unable to complete the configuration of the ag of HA...

-the default gateway is not the same on the two hosts, but I fixed that. There is no itinerary changes. HA the setting is "leave power." After correction and deactivation/reactivation HA, the problem is always the same.

VMware KB: Check and reinstall the correct version of the VMware vCenter Server agents

-J' ran "Reinstall ESX host management agents and HA on ESXi" agent of HA, and I checked that it was uninstalled and reinstalled during the reactivation of HA.

    CP /opt/vmware/uninstallers/VMware-fdm-uninstall.sh/tmp
    chmod + x /tmp/VMware-fdm-uninstall.sh
    /tmp/vmware-FDM-uninstall.sh

I did this for two guests. This fix makes the problem of the election and I was still able to run a HA test successfully, but when after this test, I turned off the 2nd Server (in order to test the PA in the other direction), HA has no failover to 1 and everything remained low. After pressing 'reconfigure HA', the problem of the election appeared again on 1 hosts.

P.S. I had problems with cold Migration during the implementation of the SAN. After setting up all (vMotion, ESX upgrade), these problems have disappeared.

When you search for this error, I came to this article: KB VMware: VMware vCenter Server displays the error message: unable to connect to the host

And this cause could make sense, since the server vCenter changed and IP addressing has been changed during the implementation.

However, in the file vpxa.cfg, the < hostip > and < serverip > is correct (verified by using https://< hostip > / home).

Tried this again today, no problem at all.

P.P.S. I have set up several of these systems from scratch in the past without problem (if it is an 'upgrade').

OK, so the problem is solved.

I contacted Dell Pro Support (OEM offering the license) and they checked the logs (fdm.log) and found that the default IP gateway could not be reached.

The default gateway is the ip address by default host isolation, used by HA.

Because it is an isolated production system, the front door provided proved only for future purposes.

Now, I've changed the default gateway address of management on the switch plugged into both hosts, namely the ping requests.

    This solved any problem.

  • Operation Timed out - vSphere API

    Hello

This follows the validation of my colleague Tony Gent on Snap Mount LUNs will.

I've coded successfully a routine to call queryunresolvedVmfsvolumes in a few test environments and to manipulate the result for the host will, but critical on-site routine returns with a message 'operation timed' out after 100 seconds.  I tried the navigation to the CROWD and call the method and does not return the expected results but takes a little less than 4 minutes.  I don't see the value of operating time is configurable anywhere and the method has no parameters and is not the task.  I looked at the box VC that I sign too and also the host I use the method on.

Does anyone know if the value of timeout is configurable (I think I'm screwed, if it isn't!)

    see you soon

    MikeL

The problem is that cmdlet Get-View creates a new instance of VimService as parameter values of Id are not owned by the customer.

But if you change $view_object. Property of Client.VimService.Timeout and immediately after that call the $view_object method, that works too long, it should work.

    That is to say:

    ...
    $hostview = Get-VMHost myHost | Get-View
    $dsmanager = Get-View $hostview.ConfigManager.DatastoreSystem

    $dsmanager.Client.VimService.Timeout = -1 # Infinite timeout
    $dsmanager.QueryUnresolvedVmfsVolumes()

Unfortunately, this happens from time to time.  The work around is simply restart the host as it is, and then maintenance.

    Hello

Your recovery Partition was photographed on your hard drive during the production of your computer by the manufacturer for all of these reasons.

    1. to reinstall Vista from in the case of a failure of the system, based on individuals or the keys at startup.

F10 or Alt + F10 or F11 are a couple of different manufacturers use sequences.

You will need to ask your manufacturer for proper sequence.

    2. to make the recovery disks on if your drive hard breaks down, so that you can then reinstall the operating system on a new hard drive.

Also ask them how to make records.

Your D: Recovery Drive is should not be used for backups, defragmented, etc..

Should be backups on an external hard drive or DVD; external hard drive preference.

To resolve the problems that have arisen with the recovery D: Partition, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your computer to remove all that has been added to it.

    Hello

you click Start - then right-click on computer - then left click on properties to know what operating system you have running on your computer

It's advice from this manufacturer to remove it for XP

in Vista, it is very similar; programs of the control panel and uninstall the program

  • Remove diskgroup raw disk?

    Hi all.

I installed of ASM (10.2.0.3) with attached databases.

For the DATA diskgroup, I have 16 9 GB of raw disk files. There are more than 60 GB of free disk. I would like to give back it to the AIX admin guy. ASM used about 6G 9 g on each disc. How to make it so that there is nothing on the disk I want to remove from the diskgroup or I can just remove that via OEM and reorganize it?

    TIA,
    Greg

If they are part of a disk group, you will have several disks

Find the disk you group and save the number of disk group

    SQL > select group_number, name from v$ asm_diskgroup;

    GROUP_NUMBER NAME
    ------------ ------------------------------
    1 P1CSM2_ASM_DG1

    SQL >

For the disk group is the disk that you want to remove the group.

    SQL > select v$ asm_disk, disk_number, mode_status, name, path where group_number = 1 order by disk_number, name;

    DISK_NUMBER MODE_ST NAME
    ----------- ------- ------------------------------
    PATH
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    0 P1CSM2_ASM_DG1_0000 ONLINE
    / dev/rhdisk2

    1 P1CSM2_ASM_DG1_0001 ONLINE
    / dev/rhdisk3

    2 P1CSM2_ASM_DG1_0002 ONLINE
    / dev/rhdisk4

    3 P1CSM2_ASM_DG1_0010 ONLINE
    / dev/rrawlv01

    4 P1CSM2_ASM_DG1_0011 ONLINE
    / dev/rrawlv02

    5 P1CSM2_ASM_DG1_0012 ONLINE
    / dev/rrawlv03

    6 selected lines.

    SQL >

determine the disk that you want to remove

    SQL > ALTER DISKGROUP P1CSM2_ASM_DG1 DROP DISK P1CSM2_ASM_DG1_0000;

    Modified DiskGroup.

Check operation of the DSO that will remove anything from this disc.

    SQL > select * from v$ asm_operation;

GROUP_NUMBER OPERA STAT REAL SOFAR EST_WORK EST_RATE POWER
    ------------ ----- ---- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ----------
    EST_MINUTES
    -----------
    1. RUN 1 1 548 2884 1588 REBAL
    1

Once the operation is complete, then the raw device can be recovered

    SQL > select * from v$ asm_operation;

    no selected line

  • I have several items in my trash that I can't remove. I get the message "the operation cannot be completed because one or more required elements could not be found. (Error code - 43) "when I try to do.

The operation cannot be performed because one or more required items be found.

I have several items in my trash that will not delete. I get the message that precedes, when I try to do. I deleted successfully other files using "delete immediately", but these just won't. I also can not move out of the trash to another folder.

I'm using an iMac with OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 operating system

Have you tried the instructions in the order that they are arranged in you may not empty the trash or move a file to the Trash - Apple Support?

  • The urge to Ultrabook 6 problem with recovery after failure of hard drive (out of warranty)

    Hello

Please can someone tell me if it is true that to use HP factory recovery disks, hardware must be exactly the same as when purchased.

After hours wasted trying to get the recovery disks to work, I find myself with the same "failed to retrieve @ screen and some unnecessary lines of code."

In reading the various posts, it seems that I have a replacement for HP HARD drive of the same type that came with the computer. If this is the case, then the links on the support pages should say this before I have pay £39 for a set of disks.

For me, a hard drive is a hard drive. I replaced a drive fried (1 month out of warranty expires) with a good brand replacement, but larger. Disks won't load.

However, I could load W7 form an iso file and get that to work. I need the recovery because I do not know how to configure raid which allows the QuickStart on this laptop, and I don't have the time or no further inclination to make it work.

Partly a rant, sorry, but I'm wrong, and is there a solution?

    Concerning

I have seen others with this problem. Unfortunately, the only working solution, I remember the top was where a guy removed the player cache Msata, ran recovery then reinstalled.

On a single charge of Win 7 I think you could install the Intel Quick Start software, then use it to activate the quick start. I have more a laptop Win 7 with Msata to test, but I remember the software could be opened from the icon beside the system clock and used to toggle the quick start.
