  This probably isn't a problem MSE or malware.  It could be a problem with the video software (which is otherwise commonly) and I have it on my system as well for my ATI graphics card.

  This just started recently - as the last day or more?  If so, try a system restore to before it started to see if that helps.   This problem occurs if the Userinit key in the Windows registry has been changed. For example, this problem may occur if the Userinit key has a value, but no binary data.

  I suggest measures are:

  Start the computer in safe mode and try to make these changes in the registry:

  It s not related to the laptop, but for the driver
  Who knows why.

  In any case, in most cases the people solved this problem by the new driver Catalyst installation.
  You should do this;

  -upgrade your Vista to the last State
  -remove the old system catalyst
  remove/uninstall the graphics since the device manager driver
  -Restart the computer and reinstall the driver and catalyst
