  • Update graphics card for Studio XPS 8100 with 600W PSU

    Hello

I just joined the forums of Dell and I was wondering if I could get help for choosing a new graphics card for my studio xps 8100.

I just bought a power SUPPLY Corsair 600w PSU and was looking for a good graphics card for games (something which runs the games current and near future at the top or above), preferably between 70 and 100 pounds. I took a look at the Geforce GTX 650, and I think that the power supply 600w she'll be fine, but I wasn't sure whether she would be fit in my office. Any advice on the appropriateness of the GTX 650 will fit / work, or any recommendation of something better, would be great.

    See you soon

    Hello Oni21,

My apologies for the delay in response and if was not clear in my previous post. I wanted to say before you buy the GTX650, take the computer to a local store and check if the graphics card works on the system.

Please write again if you have any additional questions.

  • Fresh win10 install a Studio XPS 7100.

You will need to do a fresh install of Win 10 for one SSD on a Studio XPS 7100 with HDD doubtful.  If cloning will not work.   Backup media is 5 years old, so I prefer to do a new installation

I did the upgrade of Win10, worked after trying 4, 2 failure dodgy hard drive, used Window Media Creator to get an upgrade to work.

Win10 actually cleared up some locking problems I had on Win7

I used Windows Media creator for trying to install fresh on the SSD, but no operating system found after the attempt.

What do I need to reinstall Dell software to make it work?   What are the steps for a new installation.  Links or information

Thanks for any direction you can give me.

  • Add SSD to the Studio XPS 8100 with 2 HARD drive

    Hello

I have a request similar to this one in this thread: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/disk-drives/f/3534/p/19499585/20334228.aspx#20334228 but I went a little lower on the line, need some advice and help on the Intel Rapid Storage Technology controller.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100 with discs of Segate to 2 x 1 TB which have stripes.

    Configuration is SATA 1 + 2 = hard disks scratched; 3 = BluRay ROM/DVD RW SATA; SATA 4 = not used.

    I bought a Samsung SSD 840 series.

What I want to do is add the new SSD controller and install Windows 8 without messing/breaking the existing 2 x HDD Striped Array.

First, I installed the SSD SATA 4 and started Windows 8 to DVD but Windows 8 says it could not install on this disk because it is not bootable (SSD is not formatted/not partitioned right now but I guess that Windows 8 installation will do for me.

    If the questions are:

    (1) if I go the SSD SATA 1, could I (physically) move the existing striped 2 HDD SATA 2 and 3 and set this configuration in technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology controller without losing the striped table?  I don't want to find that the controller will set up a table of fees which then requires a fresh format in order to to use.

    (2) is there a documentation of this controller I could read on what concerns the reconfiguration/options and their effect?

    Thank you
    Chris

I am pleased to learn that you have to work.  Sometimes I forget that the newer Dell BIOS will allow allows you to select a SATA port for the start.  My XPS 410, being an older machine, allows me only to the ability to choose 'SATA hard drive' as boot device.  Because it does not give me the option to choose a specific port, the bootable SATA drive must be attached to the first port.

Once a RAID has been configured, the parametric data written to readers allow the RAID ROM figure out how the RAID has been configured.  I've been through all this on a Studio XPS 435 t/9000; We had a problem after adding a new video card in the system that caused startup failure, error message "one or more of your drives are locked".  We have solved by moving readers from the ports of third and fourth (or Dell originally installed them) to the ports of first and second.  Requirement to keep records in the same relative order of port, you can of course make this transition and maintain the operational computer.

I wish that your installation does not end with an arrangement of dualboot on its own; Maybe Windows 8 works differently from Windows 7.  The XPS 410, I'm currently using is a RAID 0 which has been initially configured with Windows XP.  When I decided to try Windows 7, I has narrowed the original partition and run the Windows 7 Installer to install in the unallocated space resulting.  The installation went normally and I found myself with a system dual boot without ever having had the opportunity to indicate that I wanted a system dual boot.  Since it was my goal, I'm not complaining, but I see that it might be inconvenient for some people who had the intention like that.  Before installation, you accidentally set your SSD on port 4 to be the first in the boot order?

  • To add a 2nd hard drive on my desktop Dell Studio XPS 7100

I have a HD 1 TB there already comes with the system. Add 2 to 7200 RPM SATA 3.5 "HD which is available on the Dell site and make a total of 3 TB? I thought I read somewhere that my office is designed for a maximum of 2 TB. 3 to work always but maybe just a little more slowly?
You can also the 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.5 "HD would work, too? I ask because my office is not listed in the compatibility for this particular HD list.

You will need to buy a SATA data cable, there should be an additional power supply connector into the drive case.

The procedure of installing a second hard drive in the 7100, are here:

    FTP://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_studio_xps_desktop/Studio-XPS-7100_Service%20Manual_en-us.PDF

Tip: Open the case and check that Dell has provides the drive for additional hard drive cage.

Once the drive has been installed, check the configuration of the system, including the SATA port, it is connected, turned on [on] and the hard drive is recognized.

So for Windows recognizes the additional drive, you must partition, format and assigned to a drive letter using Windows Disk Manager.

    Bev.

I recently bought a new larger hard drive for my XPS M140 / 630 M. I am unable to get windows XP to complete the installation on the new drive. How can I get windows install completely? Thank you!

    Hi A.P.ZG,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community.

Since you are facing a problem to install Windows XP on the new drive, it would be useful if you can answer this question to help you further.

You receive error codes or messages during the installation fails?

You can read the article and check if it helps to solve the problem.

How to partition and format a drive hard using the Windows XP Setup program

Note: If the disc contains all the data, make sure that you back up all your important data before you continue.

You can also disconnect all the external devices connected to your system (except the keyboard and mouse) and check if it helps.

If you need further assistance, please answer and we will be happy to help you.

  • Upgrade GPU for Studio XPS 435MT and indine power load max

Hi, I have a Studio XPS 435MT with a 360W power supply and an ati radeon HD4800 series GPUs (likely a 4850). I want to improve the gpu with a gpu from Gainward GeForce GTX 750 2 GB (one slot), GDDR5. It uses just 55W and there is no external power supply plug, the HD4800, but in the GTX card appears: minimum 300W or more system power supply (with a minimum of 12V current rating of 20A). And I do not know if this 20 a could be a problem, because my Delta DPS-360FB-1 diet doesn't seem to reach the rated current.

    What do you suggest me?

    Thank you

combined maximum 12V 12VA and 12VB output for this unit is 300W which is 25, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.

If you draw 20 amps on the 12v rail you used 240W leaving 60W for everything else that needs 12V.

And if you use 300W on the 12v rail that leaves 60W max for the 5v / 3.3V through less 10W to + 5VSB.

GTX 750 will be in this case either well, or it does not at all due to the lack of power on one or more tracks.

HD4850 certainly consumes MORE energy than a GTX750 so that only one point of view, it should be good.

  • Studio XPS 7100 display problems

Hello to all out there. I have a Studio XPS 7100 minitour, and I had a devil of a time to connect this PC to my TV 32 '' to the House. When I got the computer, I've upgraded to a graphics card for games and the card has the usual video output ports: DVI, HDMI and VGA. When I connect to the TV with VGA, it works, but it is a bit choppy. When I connect with the DVI, DVI to HDMI cable, it works, but I can not set the resolution of the screen. When I connect using a direct HDMI cable, there is NO of SIGNAL on the TV. Am I missing something here? Perhaps I missed a driver? Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Harish R,.

Of course, the drivers! Why didn't think of this. Update / install the necessary drivers, and now, I look at my beautiful display on my TV.

Thanks for the quick response / solution.

  • Suggested Drive setup for new h8 - 1360t with SSD and Raid-1 array

    All,

I need some advice on how to configure the drives in my new system (waiting for construction and delivery, sigh).

I bought a plan to replace the 1 TB drive with a new drive SSD that I start from and H8 - 1360T (Win 7 Pro).

I also have a Raid-1 array in an old HP 4999 T system (Vista) disks Western Digital Caviar Black 2x2TB

By looking at the motherboard plug appear to be only SATA0/1 6 GB/s, the others are 3GBPS.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03132942

I was a little surprised by that and need some advice.

    1. If I put the SSD on SATA0 or SATA1, the quickest way?

2 or do I put the drives Raid-1 array and move the SSD to path of 3 Gbps?

I think this last (option 2), but wanted to get your entry in case missed me something.

    Thank you

    Joel

    Ruette,

Thanks for your comments. Looks like I should start with Option 1 as a better starting point.
