  AFAIK, you must remove the keyboard first, before you can replace the CD/DVD drive. Remove the screws on the lower side, and then you can push the disc if you have replaced the keyboard.

I have a lot of videos that I made more certain that I bought and I transfer them to DVD, it would also be useful to label the disks that hold backups and plans that we use.   If you take the risk that your warranty would be voided and you find a compatible player then do it. Sorry, but if I were you, I would buy an external USB-DVD/RW lightscribe capabilities. It s fast enough and he would support lightscribe that you need.

I'm not sure why my laptop can't detect the drive. I tried many things such as the Microsoft Fix It, but ends up giving me an error saying that some components are not well read or something similar to that.
  Any help is greatly appreciated and if there is anything that I can provide for any further help I will do it gladly.
  I should also mention that the CD/DVD does not appear in Device Manager.

  Satellite M40X sounds new enough to have CDs of feature writing. Seems to me a HW question but you can try:
  1 - Clean the blank CD with a cloth dry
  2 - blow to the goal and do not forget that there is no dust
