  • WRT54G2 Dropping connection with active Access Restrictions

Recently, we have replaced Nano from my 13 years with a key, which means that it can now access the internet from (almost) anywhere in the House.  So I did some research and found the WRT54G2 of Access Restrictions.

I got the WRT54G2 for 5 years, and it has been extremely reliable.  I'm a programmer (although, ironically, not necessarily PC-savvy!) who works full time at home, and I have no problem with the network.  But now that I have implemented Access Restrictions, he abandoned his connection once or twice a day.  So it falls, it becomes quite slow.  Once it comes down, I unplug the router, wait 60 seconds and plug back in.  Then everything works again.

I found no other people (in the forums) mention the same problem, but I hope someone can help out me.

    Access restrictions are the following:

    • Status: activate
    • Change the list of PC: IP range 01:2 ~ 254
    • Days: every day
    • Opening hours: 24 hours
    • Blocked Services: NO
    • Blocking of the website with URL: white
    • Blocking of the site by keyword: naked, nude, etc...

I have 3 polciies due to the number of keywords I am trying to block, given that each policy allows only 6 keywords.  Policies are all set to the top in the same way except, of course, the key words.

The WRT54G2 is model V1, and the version of the firmware is 1.0.01.   The upgrade of the firmware help?  Download from Linksys for model 1.0 page, says "no available firmware/driver download.

Access restrictions, "IP Range 01" should be in 100 ~ 149 instead of 2 ~ 254?  I am train to restrict our family office, my laptop, iPad and keys - anything in the House with internet access.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, I think that any other additional filtering that by default will slow down most any router. It is probably more problematic for wrt54g2 because if it is little CPU and memory.

I guess you can try to reset to the default values and reconfigure him from scratch. But still, I don't think that the wrt54g2 has a very large CPU that can handle a large number of filtering.

Maybe try a solution like Norton DNS DNS? Or open DNS? Instead of access restrictions. I don't know, I'm not real experienced with access or parental control restrictions.

  • WRT54G2 DHCP Client Table empty.

OK this thing is 4 days and worked fine until today. Wireless can connect to it. My DHCP client table is empty (does not see the same wired connections). I tried the firmware update, reset to factory settings I even unplugged it DST foer. No luck.

Note: this was bought to replace a month 8 old WRT160N which oddly would not release someone from the DHCP client table and would regularly not people to reconnect because he thought that it was already connected. That the only solution was to go inside and remove them manually.

I don't know what you guys done different with this generation, but you should have stayed with your old G

Sorry I never posted back, but here is the solution.

It worked only for the WRT54G2 and not for the WRT160N problem (Im sure this is a hardware problem).

In any case apparently AVG default firewall (now) blocks all network discovery when it is enabled in your operating system. How and why it affected the client DHCP table i havnt yet understood.

Solution: If your AVG version help complete (not free) goto Tools/settings system//(whatever profile your using either Standalone or Small home or office) Firewall service. Now scroll CPP of Windows service and to allow for the change. Viola everything works now. Went and did it on all my computers on the netwrk with full AVG and it works now.

  • Router slows Internet (WRT54G2)

    What I did:

I have a Linksys WRT54G2 v1.5. I've updated the latest firmware available. I am currently running just DHCP, but I won't be set up an address static IP as soon as I think is the problem. I got a cable technician, and it replaces any defective coax ends and cables and performed maintenance on our outer box.

    Now for the problem:

I run two desktops connected to the router, and I run a wireless network at the same time. But having the internet through the router limit 9.4 MB/s down speed. If I hardline directly on the desktop from the modem, I get 34 mb/s down. Probably the router cannot divide the speed that much. We just have our internet set to date and that 9.4 MB/s has not changed. It is always capped at that speed through the router. I don't know if it's just the router that cannot go higher than that, or if there is maybe a setting I need to change to maximize my speed. I tried fiddling with the MTU by assigning manual without real change in speed. I'm also under security settings WPA2 on the router, but even when I tried to take down the firewall on my computer, no difference in speed.

Any advice on this subject? I want to keep this router if I can.

    Lapys,

I have the same exact router. I'll be honest with you... this router has not should be used with a very nice internet connection you have. Do yourself a favor and get a better, more powerful wireless router.

I gave my WRT54G2 v 1.5 far to my neighbor.

The WRT54G2 v1.5 is one of the worst products that Linksys never done... IMO.

Examination of your WRT54G2 is in the link above, but you can also use this site to find your next router.

Edit: as you can see in the magazine tests, 20 Mbps speeds ISP will basically burn this router.  He can't handle it and choke.

  • WRT54G2 show no light working, works of the AC adapter / CC

    Hello

I have just recived a new WRT54G2, I configured all security options and worked.

My last step before production was to change the IP address of the local network, after I changed

There was a screen saying 'OK', I turned off the WRT54G2 and plugged it into

    in the office.

But the router does not power on, there is no light activity led at all. I tested with anoter

Same with the power adapter, WRT54G2 taken power and nothing.

Tryied 30 seconds reset with and without power.

Seems that it is now a brick.

I would come back as RMA or is something else to try?

    Thank you very much

    Oliver

Before you replace your router as a defective device, try a different power (same specs) or to a different power plug adapter, and then replace the correct thing...

  • WRT54G2 no signal

I bought a WRT54G2 in January. I was able to configure and to install successfully. Everything worked on until yesterday, when the power cable was accidentally deleted from the router. Since then, I realize that the wifi signal light came a few times and not laptops that were connected does not signal her.

I have a laptop which is connected with an ethernet cable, but I get "Limited or no connectivity" to connect to the local network.

I managed to connect with a laptop computer, but when I go to the URL http://192.168.1.1 page has expired. If I connect, it is not for a long time before it is disconnected.

Is something corrupt must then be fix? How can I fix? Or I have to replace the router (very last resort)?

Thank you, Richard, but I tried and it doesn't work.

However, I could find a solution.

I was able to finally get access to the URL. After getting access then reset the default value of the factory. After that, that I realize that the wireless light was conducted again. Then I applied the update to the latest firmware (not sure if this was necessary). Now everything works perfectly as before.

  • WRT54G2 - no internet connection

I have just replaced my WRT54G with a WRT54G2 router.  I used the same settings that were on my WRT54G.  Everything works fine as long as I have the blue cable plugged into my computer and the other end into Port 1 of the router.  As soon as I disconnect the blue wire from my computer, I lose my internet connection.  My computer connects to the router with no problems, I just can't connect to the internet.

I checked and double checked all the settings on my computer (in network connections) and the configuration of the router (192.168.1.1) page and they are identical.  My settings worked fine on the previous router, but for some reason, I am unable to connect to wireless internet with the new router using the previous settings.

    Any ideas?

Yes, you are right, reset the router and re-configuration it makes a big difference...

  • The firmware Linksys WRT54G2 page links?

I recently had problems with my router wireless wrt54g2 v1.0, remove client computer wireless connections. In an effort to solve the problem, I went to get an update the firmware here:

    http://www.linksysbycisco.com/us/en/support/WRT54G2/download

Who created another problem. Firmware version 1.5 and 1.0 firmware have almost the same download link on this page as well:

    http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/FW_WRT54G2V1.5_1.5.00.019_US_20090505, 0.bin

    http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/WRT54G2V1.5_1.5.00.019_FwReleaseNotes, 0.txt

    http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/FW_WRT54G2V1.5_1.5.00.019_US_20090505.bin

    http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/WRT54G2V1.5_1.5.00.019_FwReleaseNotes.txt

I figured this out the hard way after I've tried and failed to update my firmware.

I've since found a link to an another firmware update, which is slightly newer than the one I had before. I found it here:

    http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/FW_WRT54G2V1_1.0.03.001_US_20090317.bin

There is no note of version that I could find.

    My questions, I guess, are;

    (1) is there any other firmware releass for my wireless router that are newer still?

    (2) if not, is there a way I can get the v1.5 firmware to work? TFTP and the web interface of the router to refuse this file that will be used to replace the current firmware.

    (3) in the absence of a solution in response to the foregoing, is there a solution that would allow my PC wireless client can reconnect to the wireless network after letting kickoff fall? Usually, they stay connected and will work perfectly for 20-36 hours, or should I say they can connect to the network without wire in this interval of time, but after that, if they are connected and get started, I can't their reconnected unless I have reset the router. Renewing the IPs on the client side does not work.

I got the router using static and assigned by DHCP IP addresses and both with and without the wireless security is enabled (the nearest wireless AP is 7 miles away so I really didn't need the security anyway).

Nothing of what I've done so far has solved my problem.

    Can anyone help?

Hi Ricewind, first off let me say thank you for the answer.

Then, let me say I think I've missed to erase me, so I'll try again.

The firmware for my router wrt54g2 v1.0, on the Web site is not good firmware. I repeat that this does not work for my version, version 1.0, the router. I downloaded and tried. It does not work via the web interface or it works using the tftp interface.

Here is a link to the page of my router:

    http://www.linksysbycisco.com/us/en/support/WRT54G2/download

The link to download the firmware on my router is not correct. It points to the same folder as the firmware to version 1.5.

    Version 1.5:

    http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/FW_WRT54G2V1.5_1.5.00.019_US_20090505, 0.bin

The unusable firmware to Version 1.0:

    http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/FW_WRT54G2V1.5_1.5.00.019_US_20090505.bin

Someone needs to change the link to the Version 1.0 firmware file to point to a file that can actually be used to update the firmware of the router.

    PS,

I could use this file to update my firmware:

    http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/FW_WRT54G2V1_1.0.03.001_US_20090317.bin

But this file does not appear in, anywhere on the support page for the wrt54g2 for any version of the router.

    I hope this helps.

  • No internet connection found WRT54G2

I have modem BEFCMU10 and replaced my wired router (BEFSR41) with WRT54G2 wireless router.  I basically took all the connections between the wired router and put exactly the same thing in the wireless router and it does not find the internet connection.  I use Comcast cable if it has something to do with it.  So I put the wired router on and it works fine.  One thing... Photo and instructions says to use the BLUE cable to connect the computer to the router.  With the wired router, we used the BLUE cable to connect the modem to the router.  Right now, just trying to implement both our PC like wired and use the wireless for my Smartphone.  I buy adapters wireless at a later date for the PC.

Thanks for any help you can provide.  It is much appreciated.

    Try this:

    1. check if you can get online directly connected to your cable modem.

    2. press and hold the reset of the router for 30 sec.

    3. cut OFF the power to your Modem and router.

    4. connect the Modem to the internet port on the linksys router then connect your computer to one of the numbered ports of the linksys router.

5 turn on the power to your modem and wait 15 sec and then turn on your linksys router.

    6. check the LED - power/WLAN/INTERNET/ETHERNET PORT router

    7. check if you can get online wired to the router

    8. If it is online. Access the Setup page of the router by going to the 192.168.1.1 address using your browser then go to the submenu and choos MAC address Clone set it to activate and then press the CLONE button.

    9. check the State and get the IP Internet address. If you have an IP Internet check address so you can get online. Otherwise, try to renew IP. Still no Internet IP, contact Technical Support for Linksys

  • WRT54G2 - unable to connect to my Nintendo Wii

    Hello.

I just bought Linksys WRT54G2 and tried to connect my Nintendo Wii to use it.

The SSID appears, but I can't connect. I get error codes saying he was unable to connect because of my firewall.

I've disabled the firewall and tried everything Nintendo has proposed, without success.

What should I do? Please, give me any suggestions you have, because I think I've tried almost everything possible. Thank you.

If your wireless network is secure you must enter the correct network key/password... To check the settings on your router Wireless Linksys click the Wireless tab and then click on the wireless security sub-tab, you will find your network key/password / password...

If WPA/WPA2 wireless security is that you had to change it to WEP and it should connect... (Sometimes Nintendo Wii does not connect to the WPA security compatible wireless network, so it should be replaced by WEP...)

  • Question about WRT54G2 and port forwarding

Recently, I replaced my WRT54G with a new WRT54G2. My old router had the port forwarding for 2 pc is as follows:

    192.168.1.100

    6073 - UDP port

    2302-2303-TCP port

    192.168.1.101

    2302-2400-UDP

    6073 - at once

    8085 - at once

    TCP port 26100-26110

    27100-27110-both

When I try to set up my new router, it says I have overlapping of ports. Maybe I'm confused but how could he have been working on my old router and now it does not work on my new?

Of course, try this, and I think I could solve your problem.

My magic mouse stop working.   Do I have to replace a battery?  If so, how?

If it's a Magic Mouse 2 then you reload by using a standard USB cable Flash. The port is at the bottom of the mouse. If it's a Magic Mouse, then you must replace the batteries. Coverage is at the bottom of the mouse.
