Restart the PRINT SPOOLER?

Having problems printing and documents stuck in the queue?

Get an error message "print spooler not running"?

Your printer or Solution Center icon disappears and you can't find it?

The print spooler can solve these problems. You can go to SERVICES and STOP it and RESTART. This feature should start automatically when the computer is turned on. If it is MANUAL, you will have to go and THROW every time you turn on the computer.

1. click on the START MENU

2. right click on COMPUTER

3. choose MANAGE

4. another window will appear. Click SERVICES and APPLICATIONS.

5. Select SERVICES

6 scroll down to Printer Spooler. Stop and then RESTART.

7. ensure that it is on AUTOMATIC AND NO MANUAL.

In Windows 7, you can TYPE in SERVICES in the search bar when you click on the START MENU. It will be published.

Remember that this can be used for a large number of questions. Give it a try.

I hope this helps the community.

Original title: I tried to restart the print spooler as directed, and he returned the error 2: the system cannot find the specified file. He does that and is it fixable?

@Winston Microsoft M committed Support Engineer 'expert '.

I can see your response that you did take the time to reproduce the problem and then try your own ideas to check if the problem persists.

Here is what I suggest to you, so you can learn how XP actually works:

Start in the XP Recovery Console or Safe Mode, so Windows File Protection does not run.

Rename your file c:\windows\system32\spoolsv.exe you can remember (such as spoolsv.bak).  Now, the file is "absent".

    Restart normally.

Then try to start the Print Spooler Service and you will see the error.

So why don't you follow your own advice and run SFC and troubleshooting automated (as you suggested) and check if the problem persists.

    Please report your results.

When you see that it does help and that SFC does not replace the missing or damaged file (in the system32 folder) and that the automated troubleshooter does not help, will sing it a different song (we hope).

Don't forget to rename your spoolsv.bak to spoolsv.exe when you're done messing around autour.

  • How to fix: Error 1053 of the print spooler

Are you an error when you try to restart the print spooler?  Do you have your printer spooler error and now, do not restart?

You saw "error 1053: the service did not demand launch or control in a timely.?

There is a page of Microsoft support with information about this error, which can be found here.

    According to Microsoft:

    • Question: The ServiceBase class calls the OnStop method directly from the Service command handler that is defined in the ScDispatcherLoop of the Advapi32.dll file. After 30 seconds, if the ScDispatcherLoop thread is not ready to receive a new order of service from service control manager, Windows brand services controller out service as 'time '. Therefore, you receive this error message.
    • Resolution: to resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft .NET Framework.

This resolution works for some, and allows the service to return to the correct functionality.  However, I want to provide workaround incase this option does not work for some.

    • Open the run command by selecting it from the start menu or by pressing the Windows key (to the left of the alt) + R
    • Type services.msc and press enter
    • Scroll down and double click on print spooler
    • Select the tab log
    • Uncheck the Allow service to interact with desktop
    • Click apply
    • Select the general tab for the print spooler, and then select start

I have the confirmation that this workaround works for some users.  The link below will take you to a thread where this information has resolved this error a user in these forums:

1053 error print spooler does not start thread

Here is the video where the workaround steps, listed above, were found.  The video also gives a graphical representation of these steps for those who prefer the Visual instructions.

I hope this helps users with error 1053 of print spooler.

  • The print spooler service is not running

I had a virus that I got rid of but now my printer does not print, it comes up with "the print spooler service is not running" and I can't add a printer.  What should I do to solve this problem.

It's pretty easy to start the print spooler service... but may not stay started.

    To restart the print spooler:

    • Click Start, click Run, and then type services.msc in the run box, and then click OK
    • Scroll down the list until you get to the print spooler and double-click the entry
    • Make sure that the "Startup Type" is "automatic".
    • Click on the button 'Start '.
    • OK your way out

In the likely case where this isn't a solution permanent for you, when you post, include the following information:

    1. What version of Windows you have, including the service pack (start > run > winver > OK)
    2. What make and model of printer you have
    3. What antivirus you have installed
    4. If your computer was without an antivirus application or current subscription for your antivirus (in other words, how is it you got infected in the first place)
    5. What steps you have taken to determine that your system is now free of malware (i.e. what applications antivirus and antimalware you scanned the system with)

    Hello jrino,

Thank you for using the Microsoft answers Forum

Apart from the pdf printing problem can you print other programs such as Word, Notepad, or Wordpad? Try to go to the event viewer and see what errors are being given in the viewer list. Also during activation of the print spooler service, make sure that the spooler depends on all the services are started as well.

Access Event Viewer: right click on computer and select manage. Click event viewer, and then expand the view so that you can access the different categories. Expand Windows logs, and then click Application. Scroll down and see what kind of errors you found and see if that helps you evil pulls on the question. Post what you find in this thread.

Looking for services that depend on: click console in the management of the computer Services. Click Services and Applications and then click Services. Find the print spooler and double-click to view the properties. Watch dependent services for the spoooler and to ensure that these services are started and running as well. If one or more of the dependent services do not work this may cause your spooler to stop working as well.

  • Can someone help me with the load or start the printer spooler?

I'm unable to print.  This is the error message.

I see an error message about "spooler" problems

A print spooler is software that temporarily stores the disk printing hard or in memory until the printer is ready to print.

If you were expecting an abnormally long time to print a document, or if you see an error message about the print spooler, you may have to restart the spooler to print on your computer.

To restart the spooler, the simplest method is to save your work and restart the computer. Alternatively, you can try the following steps:

To restart the print spooler service

    1. You must be logged on as administrator to perform these steps.

    2. Click Start, type: services , then press ENTER.

    3. Double-click Services.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    4. Right click on the print spooler service, and then click Properties.

    5. On the general tab, next to startup type, make sure that automatic is selected.

    6. If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start and then click OK.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    If the problem persists:

I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the latest compatible drivers for Windows 7.

You can also run the troubleshooting of the printer.

  • Windows must now restart because the print spooler service terminated unexpectedly

I have a PC running on Windows Vista professional that I had for about a year with two printers that have also been all this time, a HP LaserJet 1000 and an Epson SX105.

This morning, amid a series of PDFs (separate files) printing on LaserJet printers, I suddenly had the following pop-up message:

"Spooler SubSystem App stopped working and was closed".

On the Control Panel, I found that my two printers have apparently disappeared.  My first reaction was just close and restart the computer, often kind of seeds.

To restart, I tried to print again, but I was told that I had to install a printer.  Trying to install a printer, I learned that I could not because of a problem with the spooler.  I looked online to find a solution and one that suits (without touching the registry) seemed to be to check the operation of via Control Panel's print spooler, and then restart.  Oh dear.  What a mistake!  I did this and found that the printers have reappeared, but then about 30 seconds later, I got the following pop-up message:

"Windows must now restart because the print spooler service terminated unexpectedly.

Each time it restarts the message comes back after less than a minute and restarts on another 30 seconds later, so I have a chance to try a system restore (I installed the last service pack Vista a couple of days), or something else... it's just in a loop of perpetual reboot, I can't stop restarting Windows.

How the hell do I?  (I send this message using my Vista laptop and pray the same problem occur here, too, so I don't have to print anything).

  • Printer not print indicating the print spooler is stopped and does not restart

Original title: printer does not print

The print spooler is stopped and does not restart. I have a laptop with Windows 7 and the printer is a HP Officejet 8600 (network). My wife has the same laptop model and has no problem with printing. Any help you can give would be welcome.
