Restore everything to factory settings.

I have a HP Pavilion 521N Home Edition Version 2002 with Service Pack 2 of Office I got from my grandmother. The computer is running extremely slow. I want to restore it to factory again. I do not have a disk. I noticed that she has been commissioning, if I hit F10 it gave me a chance to do what I'm trying to do. Is the right way to do it or there at - it another way?

Thank you, Dan cotton

No, you guessed it! Press F10 and enter the HP recovery process. Use the advanced settings and perform a full recovery destructive. Once the recovery process is finished (and be patient, a lot of programs will be installed after you get in Windows), uninstall the software obsolete/undesirable/trial. Upgrade to XP Service Pack 3 and make all Windows updates. Install current versions of common programs such as Adobe Reader, Java, Flash, Shockwave, etc. Install a good antivirus like NOD32 (commercial), Avast or Avira (the two of them have free versions) and enjoy your "new" computer MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

I have the Acer Aspire 7741z laptop. The computer has frequent problems, and I want to restore it defaults. I've already saved important files and had planned to do a full restore to the factory settings, but the eRecovery program does not work for me. It starts the process, says that it needs to restart, check I want to replace the data on the hard drive and restarts. The problem is, it just restarts. No recovery process, no reset factory default. Alt + F10 during boot process does nothing.

I checked the partitions still exist, and I made no changes to the system since the purchase (about formats, etc.). Of course, I'm no longer under warranty period, it seems getting direct support from Acer is not going to happen.

If anyone can help? I really want to restore this laptop to its default settings.

  • After a restore to the factory settings, where personal files are?

I recently had a problem on my laptop (gateway) that prevents Windows to boot the system.  I went through the automatic tests on splash screens.  Files were good, the disk check was good, went to a restore point, but still was not able to start.  I got a message that there was no specified "configuration change".  So I chose the option to restore factory settings.  I didn't need a disk to do - it took place without no boot disk required.  There was a message related to the restoration who said that my files could be stored on the hard drive partitioned part.  I couldn't get to my personal files anyway, so I decided to take the chance to do the restore and hope that Windows would save my stuff.  Well, Windows is running, but I can't find my files.  The page of my computer shows 2 hard drives, 'Local' and 'Recovery', but I don't know how to access recovery or if my files are still there.

Is there a chance that my stuff is still in this machine, or I'm just the GROUND?

Thanks in advance for any kind souls who can solve the riddle!

  • How can I turn off the laptop after restoring it to factory settings?

    Hello everyone

I'm selling my Portege R830-10 q If I want to restore it to the settings to factory (out-of-box state) AND THEN TURN IT OFF.

I brought the laptop to factory settings successfully using the _TOSHIBA recovery Wizard_ and choosing * factory default software recovery (Recover State out-of-box) *. However, at the end of the process of recovery and after everything is back in place I was not able to TURN off the POWER to the laptop. It only gave me the option to restart. After rephrasing it, the Windows installation process starts.

I don't want to install Windows, i.e. language, keyboard, user account, etc. I want to leave the Windows installation for the person buying the laptop to me. How can I turn off the laptop after the recovery of the system without having to install Windows?

    I would appreciate your help.

    Concerning

    Pedro

When the recovery process is complete and you are prompted for a reboot just press start button / stop and turn it off. I think it's only thing you can do.

Anyway, why not start Windows and go through the configuration option. New owner can modify this basic anyway parameters. As username Admin and language and the keyboard can be set as default.

For example, if you have a picture of German recovery set to German. New owner can change in any case.

I tried last night CD everything worked well but he always took to install new software (13 hours) hp will not help as they say its out of warranty... Got up today... Was not finished yet as advised to me so I started again... It was about 2-3 hours now... Anyone know if this is normal... ? A guy that I talked about at HP said it can sometimes take a long time... He said a guy it took FORTY-EIGHT hours to install (does not work after that) any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hello denicemd: 1st of all why not try this:

    1. remove all the parts of your computer except keyboard & mouse

    2. with your recovery media in your optical drive press the "F8" key to install all via "safe mode".

    3. If she asks you can choose the administrator who pick rather than your own name to follow what you see on your screen

Sometimes, that's what a pc should be normal

    4. run chkdisk or scandisk with all the options checked to eliminate problems of HD

    5. while still in safe mode, download an antivirus & antispyware apps at least

    6. when linking your stuff

After that unless you need a new HD I would be very surprised if you didn't have a full recovery!

    Good luck

    hope this helps

    > Is it possible to reset to factory settings complete with recovery or partition without a name?

In General, you have two options:
Either you try to retrieve the laptop using recovery disk as described here:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
or you will recover the laptop using the Toshiba Recovery disk which you likely has not been created in the past using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator. Right.

Well, if the recovery of HARD drive does not work (whatever the reason), then you must use the recovery disc. If recover disk has not been created in the past, you can order the CD here:

My laptop is about 2 to 3 years of age and has 3 partitions, C, D and E as factory put in place.

Does anyone know if the hot spare will restore the partitions in the form of factory settings or y at - it an option to change the score put in place during installation?

    Hey Buddy

Yes. As far as I know the Toshiba Recovery disk format the whole HARD drive and retrieves the laptop back to factory settings.
This means that the whole HARD disk would have first formatted and all partitions would be deleted. Then the recovery disk creates the partitions again and installs the operating system and other things like tools and drivers.

  • Reinstall Office Suite after the restore computer to factory settings

I had to restore my laptop to its factory settings because of a corrupted registry.  The operating system is Microsoft Vista Home Premium, and more desktop I want to reinstall is Office home and Student 2007.  I inserted the disc and rises the .exe file, but it will be only to configure the system.  The applications are not installed.  Or bring it to the top of the window with the license agreement, or a dialog box to enter my product key.  I tried to run the Setup for the individual applications (e.g., Word) files and I got an error.

Your machine initially has any Office Suite, perhaps a trial, pre-installed?  Is there something in the Control Panel / programs and features, which relates to the office?

When you insert your CD it offers it the window of Autorun with the option to 'Explore' the files on the CD?  If so do you see a Setup.exe in the first visible display of the CD Explorer window.  If so do you have a better result if you right click on a Setup.exe it and select the option "Run As Administrator"?

Call Dell and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, Acer, recovery disk/s etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
