Rigth character set configurations in windows xp clients?

I would like to know who are rigth 'character parameters' that must be put in a machine under windows xp on several tools (including some Oracle, third party)? As long as I know the 'character' set parameters that influence the functioning of this tool are: "The language for non-unicode programs" under control panel language settings, the cmd chcp parameter, the parameter NLS_LANG registry and the encoding used in the file you want to load via SQLLoader. Italicized what I think... Could someone correct me if I'm wrong?

SQLLoader? Only thing that is important, is to put the NLS_LANG in the control file in line with the character set in which the file is encoded. The other parameters has no effect, I mean the command chcp cmd might be, the NLS_LANG in the registry could be another thing, etc.

sqlplus windows? Perhaps depends on the version of Oracle... I guess that the registry that NLS_LANG must be aligned with the "language for non-unicode programs"... The other parameters influence...

sqlplus cmd? , I guess that the registry that NLS_LANG must be aligned with the command chcp cmd character set. Other parameters has no effect.

PLSQL developer? Likes windows sqlplus? NLS_LANG and language for Non Unicode must be aligned?

TOAD? Like sqlplus windows?

Oracle SQLDeveloper? It is not influenced by one of "character set settings. It is in friendly Unicode

OleDb drivers (Oracle we and MS one)? As Oracle SQL developer? It is in friendly Unicode

exp/imp? No idea what...

SQL * Loader - if the data to load into the control file itself, NLS_LANG must be aligned with the character set of data. Otherwise, the character set of the data files should be prescribed by clauses CHARACTERSET and NLS_LANG must match the character set of all identifiers in the control file. If the control file is pure ASCII, character set NLS_LANG has no importance. Note that the language and territory of the NLS_LANG are relevant for the interpretation of dates and fractional numbers, unless explicit data format patterns are provided in the control file.

SQL * more GUI - character set NLS_LANG should be aligned with the system ANSI code page (defined by the o/s based on the "language for non-Unicode programs"). Elements of language and territory NLS_LANG influence implicit conversions of data types and the language of error messages.

SQL * more command prompt (console) - NLS_LANG must be aligned on the page of codes console (CHCP).

Developer PL/SQL, TOAD - not sure, can depend on version, probably identical to SQL * Plus GUI

Oracle SQL Developer - NLS_LANG is ignored. The locale user o/s session are used to initialize the language and territory. Character is in Unicode format.

OLE DB Oracle driver - it is more or less described here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/win.111/b28431/using.htm#i1017221. If you need Unicode, NLS_LANG value mode. AL32UTF8.

In ODP .NET, the NLS_LANG character set is usually ignored. It is only used by OracleString.GetNonUnicodeBytes)

OLE DB MS driver - I don't know.

Exp/imp - the safest approach is to set to the character set of the database source of characters NLS_LANG. This can produce an output that is not readable on the screen, but if the queue to a file, it must be visible in an appropriate text editor.

  • Copy of files slow PowerEdge 2900 with SBS2003 to Windows XP Client

    Hello

We have a PE2900 SBS2003 Premium running with Windows XP clients. Copying files between the server and a client PC is VERY slow (e.g. 3-4 minutes for a 14 MB file). Copy on the server from the same client PC is VERY fast (a few seconds). Can any one help notice on accelerating the speed of the server copy? I post here and in the hardware forum as I'm not sure where the problem lies.

FYI the PE2900 has a NIC Dell installed/configured Broadcom BCM5708C NetXtreme II GigE (NDIS VBD customer) clocked at 1 GB. The XP client has a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller NIC running at 100 Mb. speeds on both network adapters are set to Auto in the Windows Device Manager network adapters dialog-Advanced tab. All devices operate via a switch of 3448 10 / 100 / 1000Mb Dell PowerConnect with server connected to a Gigabit Ethernet port and the clients connected to the ports 10 / 100Mb.

BTW, we also have a 'old' PE1400SC exemplary on the same network running SBS2000 (100 MB) and between that and our customers work quickly both ways!

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • "testing" a new character set

    11.2

We have two environments. CHOOSE the value OF V$ NLS_Parameters WHERE parameter = "NLS_CHARACTERSET"; Returns WE8ISO8859P1 AL32UTF8 and one in the other. Asked me to 'test' the support for multibyte characters and see what we need to do.

    I don't know how to approach the issue. So I went to the basics of loading of SQL * Plus and execute: SELECT 'Ä' FROM Dual;

    In WE8ISO8859P1 result:

    '

    -

    ?

    In AL32UTF8:

    '?'

    ---

    ?

The only difference seems to be the display of single quotes in the header.

What should I configure SQL * more? Is there a 'simple test' to show the difference between the two environments?

Your task is not well defined. You cannot 'test data' unless you want to repeat that all the thousands of tests run by Oracle to test its product :-)  You can test some features in the database, but more often, you want to test a business with the database application.

Certainly, an AL32UTF8 database can store data in any language supported by Unicode. You don't have to test this possibility. Thousands of databases with this character set and store data from around the world. However, AL32UTF8 is a multibyte character set. In other words, you need to store a lot of characters may have different codes of those in a database of the WE8ISO8859P1 and these codes can have more than one byte. Depending on how the columns of the table are defined, lengths of scope are defined, the application is configured, etc, you may or may not notice problems. As you can see, you need test a particular application to useful tests.

If you want to just test the entry of accented Latin characters of languages of Western Europe on an American or a Western European version of Windows, then:

    -Open Command Prompt

    -Run:

    C:\ > chcp

    Should display:

Active code page: 437 (or 850)

    If you see 437, enter:

    C:\ > set NLS_LANG =. US8PC437

    If you see 850, enter:

    C:\ > set NLS_LANG =. WE8PC850

Then, run SQL * more (in the same window from command line!):

    C:\ > sqlplus...

You should be able to enter Western European characters in the WE8ISO8859P1 database and the AL32UTF8 database with this configuration. Note, WE8ISO8859P1 can't stand not all characters available under Windows. For example, it does not support the Euro character.

However, I recommend Oracle SQL Developer to test the characters entry in a database. It requires no any configuration for most popular languages. Configuration of fonts in the JDK can prevail for lesser-used languages.

    Thank you

  • Sometimes, the Firefox doesn't recognize a character set

Firefox can not decode some English text characters or symbols and instead of characters appear a kind of codes. Just like you would surf the Chinese website without the Chinese character set.

    Like this here

Why is it so in Firefox? I've never seen what happens in Internet Explorer.

Pages that use Unicode (UTF-8) format display a small box with the hex code if the character cannot be displayed.
Which allows you to search the character in a table.

If you see such a box with hexadecimal code in it, then it means that Firefox cannot map a character to a specific font, and you will need to install a font that covers the affected characters.

In your case you are missing fonts and font support if it occurs on sites that use the IDEOGRAM.

You will see something similar on Windows XP if you visit pages that use complex scripts (e.g. hindi and Arabic).

Windows XP account very basic language support installed by default.

There are many languages in the world and there are still languages that may require special fonts.

You probably can't read, so it's your choice if you want to install a font for these pages or just accept the small squares with the hex code.

  • Can what iCloud password I use to configure my e-mail client?  I get an authentication error.

While trying to set up my email client (non-Apple) to receive and send an email to my iCloud account, I get an authentication error when using my AppleID password.

I tried to reset my AppleID password, but the password is always a failure when you try to configure my e-mail client.  I even called Apple Support today where they told me that the iCloud email password should be in sync with the AppleID password since the iCloud email is simply an alias for it.  After 25 minutes, they told me that I must use just the Apple Mail client instead.

I finally found the solution tonight when looking through the manage your site Apple ID.  You must create a password App specific to your e-mail client:

    1. go to https://appleid.apple.com/account/home
    2. Sign in with your ID AppleID and password
    3. Once the page is loaded, click on the link 'Edit' in the Security section
    4. You should now see a section for App specific passwords
    5. Click the "generate Password... »
    6. Enter a name (I used my name to email client - Unibox)
    7. Click on create

Apple will generate a password you will use when you set up your email client.  Use this new password instead of your AppleID password.

  • Character set for message conflict

I am running Win XP Pro w/SP3 and IE7 and OE6 support. When you try to send the entire copy & pasted text of a long article in the NY Times, I get the "conflict message character set" window which offers three choices, send as, Send as Unicode, or cancel (and reissue). It is the first time that I've ever known this error message when sending by e-mail of this kind. Although I sent the message twice, once for each of the two formatting options, none of my many recipients received the message. Since there is clearly no Western European NON-ISO or character sets Windows in the body of my email, what other reasons might be incited the error message? I even tried to copy the text into Notepad, and then copy and paste in OE6 nothing is helping.

The problem seems to have resolved itself and without apparent reason.

  • How can I disable the automatic IP Configuration in Windows 7?

Is someone can you please tell me how to disable the automatic IP Configuration in Windows 7?  I am happy to change the registry to implement if necessary.

    Why?

Because my PC sometimes gives an IP address like 169.254.0.1.  This is because Windows has detected that your computer is connected to a network, but the PC has not yet given an IP address by DHCP on the network, so Windows Server the automatic IP Configuration comes in and gives the PC an IP address that starts with 16.254.

The reason why that the DHCP server on the network has not given an IP address was because the network is coming a few seconds before the DHCP server comes up, and the automatic IP Configuration Windows comes too quickly.

Of course, once the PC has an IP starting 169.254, he cannot communicate with my router that has an IP address that starts with 192.168.  The only cure, outside re-booting, is to issue the ipconfig/renew command to obtain an IP address from the router DHCP server.

If I can turn off the automatic IP Configuration of Windows (I could disable in XP) then I can avoid this error.

    One option that you have.

You can set the IP address to a static IP address.

    Reach:
    Beginning
    Control Panel
    Network and Internet
    Network and sharing Center

Click on connection to the Local network (a separate dialog box opens Local Area Connectin status)
Click on Properties (opens the dialog)
Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
    Click on Properties

On the general tab, move the radio button to use the following IP address:
Here you can set the IP address that you want to use the machine.

    Example of Configuration:
    192.168.0.254
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.0.1

You will need to note the IP DNS addresses you need more.
If you like you can even use a set of public DNS servers for free. http://www.online-tech-tips.com/cool-websites/free-DNS-server/

Please note that the sample configuration assumes routers IP is 192.168.0.1, check please. :)

    Good luck

  • Windows Jabber client

I strive to Jabber Windows installation client.

I CUCM 9.1.2 and joined my announcement in CUCM. I installed Windows Jabber 11.1.1 and can login with my account AD information.

But now that I get. I have a red bottom left of Jabber. I searched help and he says:

Connection error. Ensure the server information in the PhoneServices tab on the Options window is correct. Contact yoursystem administrator for assistance.
However, I looked and there isn't a telephone Services tab in the Options window. So I looked further and found a document saying configure the instant messaging and presence. But then I found another document saying that IM and presence has been fully integrated in CUCM 9 and later. I don't have a presence server right now and don't even know if I need one or not. Until the tinykitty am supposed to do? Completely lost in ass of Cisco. I well it might be interesting giving Jabber to everyone but is just a confusion and frustration and more I work with Cisco more, I hate it.

You posted in the wrong forum, this forum was for the 'free' JabberVideo service that was received by Cisco, no Jabber.

Suggestions you move this to the Jabber Client forum where you have a better chance of getting a response.
