Running same virtual machine in the Lion and the snow leopard cause problems?

I just loaded a new hard drive with Mac OS X Lion to run some programs that run only on Lion.  My Mac serves mainly through Snow Leopard installed on the main hard drive.  I can boot to an OS or the other.  Two questions:

(1) can I have my a copy of VMware Fusion 4.1.1 installed on the disk of Lion and leopard snow by car?  Of course, I can only use one at a time since I can start only upward in an OS.

(2) if I do the above and open my Windows XP VM on Lion, are all changes to the virtual machine that would make it unusable under Snow Leopard (or vice versa)?

Bill

Make sure that your VM is off - not suspended--before the host.
Then it should work without problem

I wonder if anyone knows a way to use disks of persistent nonPersistant style to function similar to Citrix Provisioning Server.

My company uses Terminal Server servers and wants to be able to easily update all servers at the same time.  I know that with Citrix, it is possible to have a 'master' boot drive which the other launch initially out of.  To 'Refresh' your servers, you turn them off, put to update the 'master' then restart them... and viola, all are now updated.  I want to do the same thing, just without Citrix.

I know that I can use a non persistent disc do not save the changes, but is it possible to have launch several virtual machines off this 1 disk?  I did some research and I continue to come from the small articles/blogs referring to something like this, but either they don't go into the details or they do not seek to launch several virtual machines out of it.

This is a Citrix provisioning feature. The best you can do is try related clones. They share the same basic disk.

  • With the help of two different devices for VDR to save the same virtual machines

    Hello

I have VDR backup right now most of my virtual machines. I'm experimenting with some recovery scenarios disaster using VDR. I want to set up a new device, backup virtual machines themselves, but with a destination off. My question is, it would cause problems to have two different devices, backup the same virtual machines?

I'm asking this is because I was looking at the notes of recent VMworld session on VDR and he says, regarding a troubleshooting scenario in which you must create a new device in addition to your current device, both devices back up the same virtual machines do not.

If it is dangerous to do so because of the likelihood that two devices can save the same virtual machines at the same time, I could schedule the backup windows at different times to avoid this problem.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I create a second local camera vDR and vDR distance and test it against a test VM. The vDR devices will have their own CBT files for each virtual computer, so they should be able to work together, but I would like to go through tests to see how they work well on the WAN. Make sure that you can transfer enough data to host daily data change.

  • I had the opportunity to see all the drives in windows 7 and XP virtual machine on the same screen. He suddenly disappeared, and I need.

As I set up my computer with Windows 7 Professional and XP virtual machine, I could see all the readers, W7 and the virtual machine on the same screen. I can't do now for some reason any. All I can understand what is is past is that I got a page long list of automatic updates of W7 and some XP updates and as far as I know, the current page of readers has disappeared since then.  I need this feature if I can transfer files between W7 and XP because some of my programs are in one program of windows. I have nothing special when I installed XP to achieve this functionality, so I really don't understand what it controls.  How can I get that back?

I have solved my problem by trying everything that moves. Here are my steps:
-Open Virtual PC and minimize it
-In the Windows 7 machine, click Start click all programs
    -Select Windows Virtual PC
-Select Windows Virtual PC (in the drop-down list)
-When the window opens, right-click on Windows XP Mode
    -Select share >
    -Select the homegroup (read/write)

    -Minimized open Virtual PC
    -Select my computer
Windows 7 disks will be under other

I hope this works for you also. As I said, it worked like this until I had a huge list of automatic updates of Windows 7 and XP more some updates. Apparently, one of them cut something.

  • Local and remote to the same virtual machine replication?

Is it possible to configure replication for a virtual machine to replicate locally and remotely?

    For example:

ServerA is my server I need to replicate.

I set up replication for this VM ServerA to storage replicated in the same site (local)

I opened the replication again for ServerA VM and I can only see/manage this replication.

I would like to reproduce ServerA VM offisite in a remote cluster of VCenter for DR purposes.

Is this possible? What I am doing wrong?

same source VM cannot be replicated on the two sites with vSphere replication targets.

If you use replication level storage table between the source to the target and the second replication, you use the replication of vSphere, it would be a different story.

  • Tagged management VLAN and the virtual machines on the same VLAN

I'm faced with a problem related to our Brocade switches newly acquired and get the private VLAN to work on trunk connections to our ESX servers.  Every time I try something different, he creates a new problem.

In our configuration, our management of VLAN is not tag and we have a VLAN for this management network that is placed on our switches VLAN no marked native.  We also have virtual machines hosted on those same ESX servers that are on the same VLAN and everything works fine.  However, when I change the ESX management to carry a label on this VLAN and change the switchports accordingly (IE no untagged VLAN native), management work, but hosted on the ESX Server machines that are on the same VLAN can get no network connectivity.

Is it possible to have a management network labeled and also the host of virtual machines on the same VLAN or is it totally impossible?  I'm not very familiar with networking behind ESX, so I apologize if this is a dumb question with an obvious answer.

    Thank you

    Mark J.

Is it possible to have a management network labeled and also the host of virtual machines on the same VLAN or is it totally impossible?

Yes, it is possible... why it doesn't work for you I don't know, but try the following:

    1. set up the Group of ports of VMS to use VLAN;

    2 configure the interface of management VMkernel port group use VLAN;

3 configure the physical switch port to allow to this VLAN and put the default VLAN natively for these interfaces.

  • Can I deploy the same virtual machine to VMWare Player running of several PCs without network problems

    Hi all

I am a newbie so please forgive if this is a stupid question...

Can I deploy the same virtual machine (XP Pro), with the same machine name and the same GUID for several machines on a network without going through issues such as errors of names duplicate etc. Or will I sysprep prior to deployment.  If so, is there an easier way to do it?

Not sure if this is important, but I need to use Bridged networking due to problems with our personal firewall.

You will need to deal with the dupe GUID. Sysprep is a method.

  • Network down frequently on a virtual machine after the upgrade of computers host and vmware to win 10

    Dear all,

A week ago, I upgraded both my two machines VMWare Win 7 to win 10, as well as the host operating system. also from 7 to 10.

Now once every 1 or 2 days, one or both the two vmwares aura an esclamation mark on the network status icon in the lower right corner and West no connection.

The host operating system is NOT having any problems with the network.

The solution is to disable and reactive the adapter to virtual machines, or repair of running Network Diagnostics where she'll tell me that it s has reinstated the connection to the bridge. But obviously I´d prefer the VM´s to be on the internet 24/7 without my intervention.

I have another computer on the same router on which I did the same thing, but with this I m not having these problems. A different and not connected equipment via the VPN running on the host OS, which is the case with the machine that s had questions.

But even once, the host operating system is not having issues, the two VM´s aren´t always the two to have this problem, and this never happened when he was all Win 7.

I ve disabled some nights windows defender analysis and TCP/IP V6, but neither helped.

Want to see some of the information from the last network diagnostics / repair or some log file, or you already know what would be the solution to my problem?

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards

    Jazzl

Well, I thought that a vm was having this problem a lot more often than the other, so I looked for error messages in windows journal, showing that the network problem - have to with DHCP btw - always spent 2 minutes after an event regarding slui.exe, not found on the other machine.

What I also noticed was that the problematic vm had lost its activation of windows with the upgrade to win 10 (win 10 has limits to how much the same license can be run as virtual machines), is is not the case for the more successful one.

Then I copied the good machine, which contains the same as the other, changed mac and uuid and now it s showing that enabled, no problem so far.

  • Using the same virtual machine on two macs, but not at the same time

    Hello

I searched this site and the Internet in general, but I couldn't find an answer to this question, so my apologies if this is requested before and if so, please point me to the answer.

I have an iMac with Bootcamp with Windows 7 Professional x 64 partition and everything works fine.

I would like to install 6 Fusion and create a virtual machine from the Bootcamp partition, try it for a while and then delete the Bootcamp partition. I found a complete documentation about this and I should be able to do this without any problems, except perhaps for the reactivation of Windows.

Now the question: since I move sometimes, I would like to be able to move this virtual machine on a Macbook Pro, so I must not move file, sync, etc., and the virtual machine will not at the same time. I read that you use Move so the address UUID and Mac do not change, but I don't know if this applies to move the virtual machine to another computer. If my is:

    (1) is it possible?

    (2) what I have to buy a second copy of Fusion 6 or there is a player that will allow me to run the virtual machine on the macbook?

    Thank you

    Luciano

I have experimented with a Windows 7 VM, copied (but I have 2 licenses of retail sales) a mini Mac Core 2 Duo to a Core i7 MacBook Pro retina: well, despite the different processor, he did not ask a reactivation, strangely, even after a few resets. Windows 7 so, seems at least to be quite "tolerant", on this front.

  • A virtual machine or the template with the same name is already registered. Server error: the specified key name or identifier already exists.

    Hi all

I have a 5.5 esxi server just the a virtual machine running at the moment. I try to clone this as shown below:

    http://nchrissos.WordPress.com/2013/04/22/cloning-a-VM-without-vCenter-in-ESXi-5-1-free-edition/

    However, I get the error:

A virtual machine or the template with the same name is already registered. Server error: the specified key name or identifier already exists.

I have no vcenter (yet), and it's just the 1 vm. The virtual machine is turned off. I get this error regardless of the name, I said that when I choose "add to the inventory.

    All advice appreciated.

    Thank you

    Oh dear...
you read bad advice on the internet and then you get also the stupid advice here.

    Ignore both!

If you want to clone a virtual machine by copying - do it like this:

Create new virtual machine with the wizard.
Skip creating a disk for new customers.

In Datastorebrowser copy the original vmdk to the new dir, which has been created by the wizard.
Reopen the new VM and edit - assign the vmdk that you just copied.

The procedure of the blog is not supposed to work.

  • Two POS devices back up the same virtual machines

    Hello

So my goal is to have weekly backups to a unit of POS, and monthly backups go to another device of POS, on a separate data store.  I'm stuck on VDP v5.1.1 because since I can not upgrade my vCenters yet.  What I'm trying to do, is to protect my backups to a store of data or corruption VDP OS - which have already occurred in the past.

My question is, I'll be able to simply deploy a 2nd POS device and tell it to save the same virtual machines that are already underway by the 1st POS device?  I wonder what that complications would be, i.e. If the 2nd POS only runs a monthly backup, it will be smart enough get all changes since the last monthly backup or he'll come CBT files since the last daily backup of the 1st POS device?

    Thank you!

You can make backups in this way with 2 POS devices and CBT is treated properly. Monthly backup will take more time because of the higher number of changes. Look at the time of the departure of the backups, they will take parallel steps.

  • Network problem in the virtual machines on the same switch

    Hello

I'm stuck on a problem with my small network.  I have an ESXi 5 host that hosts around 10 virtual machines.  The last two machines I install recently displayed an unexpected behavior.  I can't do a ping between the two machines or in those 2 VMS to anywhere else in the same subnet or other networks.  These two VMS, I am able to ping and have network connectivity.  Two of these virtual machines reside on the same vSwitch and belong to the same group of port as other machines.

The configuration of these two VMs appears to be identical to all other virtual machines that work properly.  The two guest virtual machines running Windows Server 2008 R2.

So far, I tried several static IP and DHCP assignments with the same effect.  (Including spend another virtual machine a static IP at work known to one of the computers virtual problem)  I tried to delete and re-create one of the virtual machines completely.  I also did an upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1 for vCenter, ESXi host and virtual machines, and I am always observing the same behavior.

Any advice on what to check next would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

  • Oracle XE on multiple virtual machines on the same physical machine?

    Hi people,

Can I install Oracle XE on several virtual machines that are on the same physical machine?

    Thank you

    G. grangier

I find that this interpretation is questionable.
    Instance, what do mean?
    What they mean by server?
Unless Oracle explicitly forbids the execution of several databases of XE on different virtual machines at the same time, I don't see violations.

For example, imagine that the user has runs that XE on AWS and user B running an another XE on AWS.
They are not running on the same "Server"?
