Satellite 5000 - HDD crashes

Hi all

does anyone know of a tool to check my HARD drive? Or did someone knows if we can read the S.M.A.R.T. information off the HARD drive firmware? I heard that the S.M.A.R.T. information can indicate if the HARD drive is faulty?

Advice on diagnostic tool would be great to have!

Rusty

Hello

I found a shareware program called DriveSitter 1.3. Google all over the place. I'm sure you'll find a tool that can give you useful information about your HARD drive.

Good bye

  • Satellite 5000 Bluetooth or not

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite 5000 today and one that sold me was told that equipped with a built-in Bluetooth device, but when I press the FN + F8 key nothing happen. I search the Web but can't find a list or something with the data sheet for this laptop (is not new). Can someone tell me whether or not have a Bluetooth device is integrated?
    Sorry for my English

    Hello

I'm not sure but I think that some of the 5000 series have a Bluetooth connection. Why you didn t see a complete description of the notebook (5000-XXX)? Put the wireless card and check the FN + F8 key combination. If Bluetooth is onboard, it will appear in the window that appears by pressing FN + F8.

  • Satellite Pro A110 crashes during the transfer of the large data in LAN

    Hello

My Satellite Pro A110 crashes during the transfer of the large data in LAN. The network driver is a Realtek RTL8139/810 x Family Fast Ethernet NIC I've been looking through this forum and found some wire whit exactly the same problem, saying that the solution is to update Realtek lan set up in BIOS, not the computer BIOS, but I can't find any link to download the necessary upgrade file. Can anyone tell me please where to find this upgrade file or send it to me directly?

    Thanks in advance

Is - this transfer of data in the company where you work? Do you want to download data from the server, or how to understand this? How to understand what you mean under big data?

Have you tried downloading data on the Internet? For example, if you try to download some trailer HD (more than 200 MB)?

  • Satellite A50-110 crashed - replacement of the CPU

    Hello.

I should say this microprocessor appreciate supports laptop Satellite A50-110, crashed and they wanted change.

    Thank you

    Hello

You want to replace the CPU?
    Do you think its faulty?
    How did you check that?

To be honest this A50 is truly oldie the CPU that was used is Intel Pentium M 725 (1.60 GHz, 2 MB Cache, 400 MHz FSB, L2)

I'm not sure that this chipset was built in but generally if you want to use the new CPU, ensuring that the chipset would support the new processor.
But even if the chipset would support the new processor, there is always a question regarding BIOS support it might be possible that BIOS wouldn't treat a new CPU.

  • Satellite Pro A100 crashed during Windows BIOS upgrade, now does not start.

Satellite Pro A100 crashed during the upgrade of the bios from windows (upgrade the bios using windows), now the laptop will not boot. I press the on switch and it gives me just a blank screen, so I think that resets itself. I really need help solving this because I have a University paper due in the next few days and I need my laptop!
    Close for any help.

    It's a scream! :_| : O

This looks like a damage ROM module!
How did you do the BIOS update? I have red in this forum that a wrong procedure or wrong BIOS can damage the motherboard.

I think that it s a deal. I put t know if it s needed to change the entire motherboard or update the BIOS again but I n t think you will be able to do it yourself.

I think the best way is to ask the Toshiba service partner in your country.
I think they'll give you more details on the handling of the Fryer

  • Open the cover satellite 5000?

I tried to open my lap top to get out the dvd drive, but I can't get the cover off. for me, it seems that there are still 4 screws left but does not unscrew. I thought u could just remove the dvd drive. If it screws or do I have to pull harder (I don't want anything of the things up.

    Hello

Sorry I have to say that the DVD to the Satellite 5000 series drive is fixed mounted!

As far as I know no disassembly of the plans are available on the net!

Only one Service Toshiba partner has access to the plans!

You can try to open it, but at your own risk!
There is a high risk to damage the laptop, i.e. wrong screw in ca to cover damage to the motherboard or the cover!

  • Satellite L850 - Intermittent crashing with BSOD

My Satellite L850-1LK crashes with the following error message intermittently: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (athw8x.sys). An online search in some other forums suggested that I should update the driver for my Atheros wireless network adapter. I did - including uninstall it completely before reinstalling with the driver downloaded from Toshiba's own site.

I always get the BSOD, so any other suggestions would be appreciated. (I'm under 64-bit Windows 8)

    Hello

What version of driver and what version of BIOS that you use?

I had the same problem but not with the Toshiba laptop.
I discovered that the installed McAfee utility causes the BSOD.
I suggest that you remove and replace with another software antivirus like Avast! or Avira antivir.
Both are free and can be downloaded for free.

But of course I updated the Atheros Wlan driver too!
You must remove the driver and uninstall the driver properly package.
This can be done in Device Manager!
Then clean the operating system using CCleaner!
Reactivate the wireless lan, then install the latest driver.
Previous updates must have replaced only part of the package of driver causing the problem.

  • How to connect my Satellite 5000-104 to a TV?

Hi, I hope someone can help. I have an old Toshiba S5000-104 which works perfectly. However, I wanted to plug into a TV screen and there is a handset very strange video-out/line connector (not a standard composite or s-video) and I do not know the type of cable that would be required for the connection. If anyone knows, your help would be very appreciated!

    Thank you

    R

    Hello

Hmm, as I m not wrong not the Satellite 5000-104 has been equipped with a video 15-pin VGA and TV output port composite video jack with stereo audio 3.5.

VGA video port can be used to connect the external monitor and the composite output TV connect to TV to the laptop.

I think you should Google for composite 3.5 mm cable and I sure that you will find a compatible m.

  • Replace the DVD/CD-RW a DVDRW on Satellite 5000-204?

I just bought a new NEC ND - 6650A mounted in my Toshiba Satellite 5000-204. It fits well, despite the wedge had to be cut in a corner, but everything fits perfectly.

Before I bought it, I called Toshiba and they said, that it will not work, I would only put need updated BIOS. I've updated the bios (I have version 1.80), but the laptop does not recognize the drive.

I tried to access the BIOS by pressing ESC at the start, but after that, a message appears saying: 'Press F1 to the default' and not more options are available. How can I access the BIOS settings?

When it starts, the DVD player turns on the light, so I guess that is not a problem with the drive itself.

Any suggestions? I'm out of ideas.

    Hi David

And what happens if you press F1? After that, you should be able to enter the BIOS settings.

  • Satellite P205D-4378 crashed so that the BIOS update

    Hello everyone,

It is my first post on the forum, although I've read here a lot.

My problem seems to be classic: had several problems with my Satellite P205D-4378 crash.
Visited the Web from Toshiba site, they have a BIOS update that fixes the problems that I have. I do the update, CRAAAASH!, dead computer.

    Death seriously.

Turn on the other computer, search, find a few websites on "crisis recovery disk Phoenix.

I read religiously, run to the store, buy a FDD, some readers, usb, the Bios file download, rename, make the drive...

Trembling with anxiety, I press FN + b, switch on the machine, and it works!

Well well... at least the works of the Zombie fashion: pink LED, high speed fans, manages the USB FDD, begins the USB FDD, he read for a good two minutes! Then nothing.

'It's ok, it'll be ok' I think. The starting block is a program that is not more than 4 k, the computer has no bios, impossible to use anything, and must digest a 1000 k bios.

    I wait, nothing happens.

SO what now? I tried the 'start FDD' ten times at least. Last try, I waited all night! I Went sleep after the computer read the floppy).

Whatever I do, once the disk has been read, nothing happens.

I turn it off, I unplug it, I try with battery, no battery, I speak well, I insult, I pray, I cry, I swear... NOTHING WORKS!

    I do something wrong, somewhere.

On my drive are the phlash16.exe, the minidos.sys and the bios.wph (extract from a file named AASA40. ROM, downloaded with the pack zip on the toshiba site)

What should I do? I read it on some forums that computer makers like Dell and Compaq deliberately disable the Boot Block Flash, is the same thing with Toshiba?

The latest version of the bios that I have downloaded is corrupted?

Is it possible that my motherboard is physically by the update failed? In this case, is it easy to replace yourself?

I don't want to be ripped off by Toshiba for repair, if the only thing that I miss so far is a combination of keys at the end of the flash Boot Block recovery...

    In short, I'm lost.

No idea to this wonderful group of reflection?

    Thank you

    Baaharb.

I think that the update of the BIOS based on windows is security more like an update of the traditional Bios.
Why? Because using the traditional BIOS there is always a risk that the wrong BIOS would be used.
The BIOS using focused on victory, this risk does not exist.

I know a lot of people who uses a bad BIOS and damaged module BIOS ROM.

Anyway. To show you, I think that there is one solution as mentioned by delvoie, you will have to contact the local ASP.

    See you soon

  • Satellite A500-1DN - crashing everything by playing games

    Hi all

About 2 months ago, my friend bought a Toshiba satellite A500-1DN. After about 2 weeks, she decided to put 2 games on it (guildwars and jedi knight academy). We quickly realized that after about 1 hour of playing, the computer would crash to a black screen, rather than return to a blue screen of death. That meant there was no indication of what was causing the problem specifically and no dumps mini windows...
Having trouble with these specific games myself on Windows 7, I thought about the games.

A week later, she spent an hour watching videos to youtube to see his computer crashed in the same way as the game. So I put some on the computer diagnostic software. CPU / GPU overheating? But nothing, the temperatures are stable and supported and certainly wouldn t have been the cause of these accidents, unless I unfortunately missed the point where he did more heat cache-shoulders so I not outrule not he...
Because of the problem it seems to be up to now video related, I downloaded the new nvidia drivers (unfortunately the official ones didn't work and I had to search a custom .inf file). It does not solve the problem, but the driver seemed to work adequately well.

In our anger, we have sent it back stating that it would be cooling the laptop, that is to say of copper was not sufficient for the graphics card and Toshiba said they had cleaned up the computer until replaced thermal paste, typical stuff all... which seems very fair. We returned it. We played a game and it crashed within 10 minutes. Perhaps even worse than when he left.

Is there anything that could cause this problem - video related activities causing crash computer without going to the BSOD or return specific errors. What is RAM? I even uninstalled protection HDD thinking it could be the source of compatibility problems.

    I need advice.

    The spec is:
Intel core 2 DUO T6600 CPU 2.20 GHz processor
    NVIDIA Geforce GT 230M
    4 GB OF RAM

    Hello

This only happens if you play games or Surf Internet, office, etc.. ?

The games aren't supposed to, but if they are a bit older, they are not compatible with Windows 7 maybe. Did you check that?
Also look for a patch for the games. You can get it on the site of the factory.

In addition, it would be interesting to know what you get exactly the code bluescreen. For the most part the stop codes you can find more information on Microsoft Knowledge Base.

In most cases these bluescreens correspond to the drivers or hardware. If all Toshiba drivers are installed, check the RAM with Memtest86 diagnostic tool.

    Good luck! :)

  • Re: Satellite L20-155 crashes randomly

    Hello

You have a strange problem with the Satellite L20-155, about three years.

During use, it just hangs. The mouse is not responding. No error message in the event log, using windows XP Professional Ed. Screen is frozen.

I have seems to happen randomly. Sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes 10. Sometimes, it crashes then on the XP Welcome screen. \

Open the folder to see if there was a lot of dust in the fan to avoid a temperature problem. This was not the case. The fan was clean and properly in the course of execution.

Tried to start the pc in safe mode. Because in safe mode I don't seem to have problems, I decided to reinstall XP everywhere because I thought he might have had a software problem, but during the installation, the PC crashes also. Everything freezes. No response what so ever. He tried twice. In the copy of the files, the PC crashes.

    Has someone experienced similar problems?
This sounds like a hard drive problem?

I would like to know suddenly course where I have buy a new hard drive.

    Thank you

    Kind regards

    Math

    Hello

I agree with Abe. I had a similar problem with my old Satellite phone. I did HDD test and discovered that there were many defective sectors.

Computer laptop start works well, but after a while I noticed the same symptoms as you. If possible, try to get the new HARD drive, Exchange and I am 100% sure that everything will be OK again.

  • Satellite 5000 with Windows XP, Service Pack 1 is installed and now my sound card does not work

    Everyone knows this problem.

I have a 5000 Satellite with Windows XP. I installed SP1 and now my sound card does not work.

    Any ideas out there?

    Does anyone have this problem?

I reinstalled the Yamaha drive a couple of times and always the same: no sound?

I bought this unit in Holland and it was great until the problem of Service Pack. I heard that Comcom was a dealer right here. Maybe I'll have to make to them, if I can't help here?
