Satellite A120: CD/DVD drive cannot read or recognize DVD
Hello
I had this problem, whenever I insert a DVD, or even a CD containing data stored, my laptop will not be able to access these files.
When I go to my computer, there will be an icon to recognize the CD or the DVD, I sometimes get a message saying that the file extensions is not overprint and I have to change it.
Funniest yet, when I try to insert a DVD-ROM, it recognizes the DVD as a VIRGIN drive; an icon appears in my computer that would suggest that the DVD CD is actually a blank disc. Simply, I can't run any DVD or CD any data.
I have the latest drivers, I run Vista 32 bit and am distraught as the cause of my problems.
I hope I can get this problem solved by your help.
Hello
I'm not quite sure, what could be the reason of this strange WEIRD question but let's m hope this could be solved by changing some registry entries.
First of all, please go to the Device Manager and remove the drive from the list of devices CD/DVD.
Then, start the registry editor and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Then restart the laptop and check if the CD/DVD drive would work after a new reorganization of the driver and installation.

Satellite Pro A40: CD-RW/DVD drive cannot read DVD
Hello
The reader combo CD-RW/DVD on my Satellite Pro A40 (14 months) stopped reading DVDs (DVD - R or the video, have not tried other types), although it can play DVDs some time. I've cleaned the disc by using a cleaning disc. I think the problem started when I upgraded the OS to WinXP SP1 to SP2, but not sure. I tried CD - R and CD - RW writing and no errors were reported, but the CD that result are unusable (can't be read in the drive, with the LED blinks a few times and then to infinity).
Someone has an idea how solve this ptoblem? Thank you
Richard
Hi Richard,
I suggest that you go the Device Manager on your laptop and then remove your devive DVD-ROM in the list. When you have done this and then select the option "Find new hardware" and allow Windows XP Reinstall the device and associate the appropriate driver.

Satellite U300 - CD/DVD drive cannot read disks
My CD/DVD drive does not work.
It can be heard at work (or maybe working), but it cannot read the discs - music films or niether. The 'properties', says the disk is full, but can not read the contents. Neither is it give details of the content.
If I run iTunes or Real Player, suffice to say it is a blank disc in the drive and told me to get ready to burn to a disc. But in his own info says that the disc is full! Windows XP sees the drive in 'Properties' and said that it is complete, but does not display the contents of the disc. Devices, said the drive (type HL-DT-STDVDRAM GSA-U10N) "working properly".
I have turned off the HDD (software protection movement) protection because he stirs a warning whenever the unit darn picked. I tried to use the drive with it on and outside. My computer is 18 months old (I think), but this problem has existed for a year and gets more and more frustrating.
Help please.

Solutions to the problem of CD/DVD drive cannot read DVD discs
This article will tell you 3 ways to solve the problem of the CD/DVD drive do not read the DVD disc. Please the process step by step.
Solution1. Clean the DVD disc
If your Player cannot detect the DVD disc, the first thing you need to do is to clean the DVD disc. Use a soft and dry cloth (not painted) to wipe the disc from the center of the disc to the edge. Please take care to not to use a paper to clean the disc with a circular motion, it will scratch the disc.
After cleaning, inert the DVD on the drive to see if it works, if the reader can't read the disc, use a cloth of cotton wet with water or alcohol to clean the disc. After the disc dry, inert re the disc on the drive. If the reader can read, the operation is complete. If this isn't the case, please turn to the option2.
Option2. Check the disc to see if it has been damaged
Draw the DVD from the drive and check if there are some scratches or small cracks on the disc. If the disc is damaged, please try another DVD disc to see if the drive can read. If the drive cannot recognize the new disk, there could be a problem with the CD/DVD drive. Please turn to solution 3.
Solution3. Clean or repair the CD/DVD drive
When a CD/DVD drive has been used for a long time, its ability to play disc will only get worse. Then, the reader can not read some discs, or blocking your computer in the middle of the reading disc. This is usually due to the aging of certain parts of the disc, CD/DVD player dirty.
Open the drive to check if the DVD reader accumulates dust and dirt, if so, the cold air from the hair dryer allows you to clean the inside of the DVD drive. Be sure to not blow on the optical sensor orally, or clean it with a cloth of cotton with water or alcohol. After cleaning, insert a DVD disc on the drive to see if it works. If still no, you need to call the s command customer service or take the reader to a computer repair shop.

Any help much appreciated.
Hello
It seems that the drive can read DVD but not any kind of CD.
These problems usually occur because the wrong lens calibration.
In this case, only the replacement of the drive can solve the problem. But it would be a final opportunity to resolve the problem.
Before you replace the drive try to install the DVD-ram driver on the Toshiba site:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EUIn addition, I would recommend the firmware update.

Satellite A20-130: SD-R2412 cannot read that DVD burned in some optical drives
Hello
I have a laptop Satellite A20-130, running Windows XP and Ununtu Dapper in a double score. My 2nd laptop is not a Toshiba. When I burned the DVD (DVD + R) with my laptop Toshiba no and played against them in my Satellite everything has worked well.
However, when I bought a new optical drive for my 2nd my Toshiba laptop suddenly stopped playing DVDs burned in this new optical disc (I was using exactly the same brand of disc and the same format - DVD + R). I tried the old DVD (those burned in the laptop before that material from the optical drive has been upgraded) and they can still read perfectly well.
This problem applies to both Ubuntu and Windows XP. Computer support portable 2nd said that sounds like a problem of firmware with my Toshiba. I updated the driver for my optical drive Toshiba R2412 SD (which according to the manual of the leader, seems to fix a DVD-Ram compatibility issue). Now the reader occasionally reads some of the new DVDs burnt (after doing lots of noise and waiting for ages), but more often that not, I get an error message saying that the device cannot be read, because the format is wrong or the device needs to be formatted.
This computer non-Toshiba laptop read DVD, it burns using the optical drive improved perfectly.
Hello
Satellite A20 is old enough laptop model, and after intensive use, it may be that the disc is more sensitive. If all this happens occasionally there no explanation just why this happens.
I know it's pretty boring, but I don't see any magic solution. In the end, you should test with new disc.

DVD - RAM drive cannot read the CD on my Satellite M40X

Hello
It of very unusual. Try this: go to the properties of the drive DVD ram (right-click).
Somewhere in the properties is a checkbox to enable digital CD PLAYBACK. Make sure this box is checked. In Autoplay make you a corresponding task is associated with music CD and not action.
Load a music CD and then right-click on your CD-ROM drive. There should be a PLAY option. If the DVD player not working after this change, so I think that it s something wrong with the hardware.
In my opinion, you should contact the service partner.Good luck

Hello Joe
I saw in some your previous assignments that you use external DVD drive too.
I use my Tecra with Replicator port and a multi LG external DL disk attached to the port replicator (due to the fast data transfer firewire connection). Everything works fine and I wonder how you can have all of these problems.
If your device is set up correctly, including all the original drivers, tools and utilities that you can find on Toshiba download page should not have any problem. I hope that you have installed the unit without port replicator and you don t forget Mobile extension tool. As much as I know there is no driver for Replicator port and all the signals are loop just to the ports of the replicaror port.
What is the status of the Panasonic player in Device Manager? The drive is displayed in Windows Explorer?

Satellite A40-S435: the drive cannot burn CD-R/CD-RW but can read DVD-ROM
Hello
my laptop is Toshiba A40-S435.
I'm currently problems writing CD - R or CD - RW drive CD - RW?
There is noise whenever I insert the CD - RW into the CD - RW drive!
But able to read DVD-R and sometimes intermittent reading CD - R disc?
Is - this CD - RW drive is defective? My burner is TEAC DW 224th - a 7.2 AOr would that be the problem of software that may have a break on my CD - RW drive?
My current configuration are:
Configuration of the device is all devices
Technology HT is Enable with PM
Dynamic CPU frequency mode is always highSpeed session is seeing no tick on silent mode SET or SET Normal Mode?
You can send an e-mail and respond to [email protected]
Please help and advise.
Hello
I think it s not a question of setting wrong, but it could be a malfunction of the player.
Maybe the lens can not calibrate correctly.
I think noise appears during the insertion of the disc because the drive is trying to read or to recognize the CD.
In this case there is not much to do. You can try using different media and if this does not work if the disk needs to be replaced.
