Satellite A205-S5880 (PSAE3U) downgrade Vista to XP - does not detect HARD drive

Hi all
I got this hair loss situation, I had a satellite A205 - S5880 (PSAE3U) and decided to downgrade to XP, I got all ready drivers for XP (I have the EMEA support site and the wireless from a Czech website), I have my windows XP SP2 g CD and I get after loading everything Since the CD that my HD is not detected or not recognized and it tells me to make sure I have connected (I know I do).

After doing a search of loong on the web, I discovered I have need the drivers (or something like that) to my HD which is a Hitachi HTS542520K9SA00 ATA Device (200 GB, 5400 RPM, SATA). My bios won't let me put my SATA to IDE (or something like that) also to update and nothing, please I need my Windows XP CD to read my HARD drive, and I can take care of the rest (at least I think so, otherwise I'll ask again: D).

I also found that I can watch my motherboard chipset for motherboard for my HD controller, it ' s (i think) a toshiba ILHAM v1.00 or Intel Crestline - GM GM965.
Maybe this info also works: Intel ICH8M

I would totally be apreciate all the help, thanks in advance. I am able to give any other information you want
in any case here is a summary of my pc with everest

Hello!

You will find hundreds of discussions here in the forum about this, if you install Windows XP and Vista from a Microsoft disc and the HARD drive can't be detected... So he s strange to read these questions again and again.

However, to install Windows, you need the SATA drivers or let's say the Intel Storage Manager package. It contains the driver you need. You can then create a new installation using nLite [www.nliteos.com]
Or look you at this Toshiba document: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9401AN0000R01.htm

Good bye

  • Cannot install Win 8 - Satellite Pro C660 does not detect HARD drive

    Hello

My HARD drive died, so I decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro C660 - 1 9 to an SSD.
I made a USB bootable with Win8 and starts very well.

The problem is that it does not detect my SSD, so I can proceed with the installation.
SSD appears in BIOS but not in Windows Installer.
He said that there is a missing driver.

I downloaded the AHCI drivers (XP, only ones available) and even in this case, after you have selected the only rider that appears, it says no new device found.

I tried to change the SATA from AHCI mode to compatibility mode and it's the same thing...

    What can I do?

    Thanks for the help.
    Best regards
    Bruno Moreira

More old Windows XP need a driver AHCI Intel's but I think this isn't a problem with SATA driver missing because as far as I know Windows 8 as well as Win 8.1 already contains the drivers to recognize the SSD or HARD disk drive.
In addition, the installation of the OS should be possible even if the driver would be added for this procedure, you must use the "compatibility" mode
As you say, the compatibility mode is not working too, so I think there is another problem.

However, page driver Toshiba also provides a driver Intel RST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) (Windows 8 - updated) you can try to add during the installation of the OS.

But I m wondering if you would be able to install this Win 8 on common SATA HDD.
Have you tried to format the SSD using a different computer, then install Win 8?
    Give it a try.

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.

    Hello

I have upgrated my Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate and the remote control does not work. Well upgraded... I bought Vista ultimate and it installed.

Is there a driver for my remote?

You may need to install the infrared driver.
This driver is required to activate the infrared port on your laptop.

You can find it here in the X 200 section

    Any help please?

    Hello

    > After installing Microsoft Sync it requires a reboot and after that my laptop does not start.
And it does n average boot t?
You get an error message? The laptop freezes on start up? Do you get a BSOD?

I put t know how you can solve this problem, but can you go into the advanced boot menu? You can start in safe mode?

In my opinion Microsoft installation synchronization destroyed something in Windows and in the worst case, reinstall the whole OS.

  • Satellite Pro A10 does not start (HARD drive seems to be missing)

Hello, I hope someone can give me some advice on this problem: I have a 2 years Satellite Pro A10. Recently, it starts not at all and I noticed that if I look at directories on the C: drive using the command prompt, it said "file not found". Cannot start Windows at all, not even in Safe Mode.
Using the recovery disks is I help spread messages as no such fixed disc and 'Extraction impossible '.
is - that say I have:
    1 a hard drive damaged
    2. defective connections on the HARD drive? -If Yes, how I fix that?

the system didn't crash before it happened, she doesn't have to load up when I started it.
    Would appreciate any help.

    Thank you
    SCL

    Hello

Well, it could be a hardware malfunction of HARD drive. Yes, it is possible. But I don t think that there is a bad connection. You used this HARD over the last two years and you n t change the settings of connections on this HARD drive. Is this good?
If it possible s so I suggest you of to completely format the HARD drive.
Then try to start the recovery procedure.

However if the HARD drive has a functioning default (ie. crushing of the head), so the only way is to replace this device.

  • Satellite 4100xcdt does not recognize HARD drive after update BIOS version 8.20

My laptop is a satellite 4100XCDT with windows xp and I want to install linux.
Have the cd bootable linux (tested on other computers) but laptop doesn't not boot cd shape so I updated the bios with version 8.20 from the toshiba support site.
Tried the disks formatted 1.44 and 7.20 such as recommended in the manual of the 4xxx series. BIOS has been updated successfully

Result: after pressing the switch of the usual screen Toshiba appears, after the disc hard led flashes for a few seconds then windows except modus menu appears. After I made my choice (all tried) a few seconds later (and hard drive led light) flashes a blue screen (not enough long to read the message) and the computer is restarted. When starting from a back bootable floppy, I can't reach the (cd rom) drives (hdd) C and D
But in my opinion that Windows Save menu modus is called from the hard drive (so I think that the hard drive still works)

    Hello

Well, in my opinion a part on the HARD drive or bootable partition might be corrupted.
You are right, if the windows save mode appears therefore HARD drive has been recognized by the BIOS and the HARD drive is bootable.

I think there must be something wrong with the data on the HARD drive.
Something similar happened on my laptop several weeks ago. After you use the chkdsk/r, I was able to run the operating system again. But then I installed everything again.

On the Toshiba page I found the companion disc.
The accompanying disk is capable of detecting your CD-ROM drive on the
Toshiba during the boot process. If you need access to your CD-ROM
Hunt, then delete "rem" Word the following lines in the Autoexec. BAT
and CONFIG. SYS on the accompanying disk.

    REM if exist toscd001 a:\mscdex D:TOSCD001 /M:10 (AUTOEXEC. BAT)

REM device = a:\toscdrom.sys (CONFIG. (SYS)

    It may be useful

  • Satellite 1415 does not see HARD drive

    I just finished my old 30g HD to a 160g via a cable usb/ide on my Satellite 1415 cloning/adaptation.

I've used Norton Ghost who said using the copy MBR 'not' option, I have to format the new drive. It took me over six hours to do due to overheating closed the first period which forced me to do it again.

Now with the new full disk, I installed in the machine and starts, received a message "NTLDR is missing" on the first try. After going in (WinXP) disk management I noticed that the new drive was now three scores, two the same size that the old hard drive and the last not allocated. I looked at the files in the first partition and found that I do not need so I deleted the files and the partition. The remaining active partition has all the Po files, that I need so I have it assigned a drive letter.

Now to start with the new drive I get missing operating system message. I ve changed the boot order and linked to the boot the ghost CD but had no luck with either. Of course the machine does not see the disk, so my question is how I can get to see the new drive letter to start when it seems now that for a C:\ drive?

The only option I see in the BIOS is boot order change. Thank you

    Hello

    To better understand:
The ability of the entire HARD drive is recognized properly?

To be honest, the whole story is a bit confusing for me. I use Norton Ghost with WXP too and I know that you can create your own recovery image and burn on CD or DVD. This medium, that you can use to install an operating system.

You can also save files to recovery on the second partition and then copy to external HARD disk.

With the new HARD drive using Microsoft facilities CD and install WXP. Create own partitions on the new HARD drive and all ghost copies files to the second partition (new HARD drive). You may not install all driver and tools but install Ghost on this OS fresh and naked. Start the ghost and Recover My Computer option. So, after 20 minutes, you'll WXP as on the old HARD drive.

I did it with my old Tecra.

    Hello

I think that it s a HDD issue naturally it s really strange that the HARD drive is different sometimes and sometimes it s is not visible, but I doubt that it could be software related issue. That's why I think that it s a drive HARD and in my opinion, you should check if other HDD SATA runs correctly.

  • Satellite A300-1EI: Debian Linux does not detect DVD drive

    Hello guys,.

I am trying to install Debian debian-40r5, but the first issue I encountered is that the DVD is not detected correctly and the system setup program is not loaded.
    What happens is...

    1. start the program installation of Linux and its load.
    2. I am invited for selections of region/language/KB. Then when debian tries to detect the drives, the dvd is not detected, and I am asked to load the driver manually. I tried to load the drivers in the installer, but without success.

If anyone knows how to load the appropriate driver, please me advice.

    Thanks in advance,

  • Satellite U300 - Windows XP does not see HARD drive

    Hello

I've updated the BIOS with the latest version, I've built a floppy with the SATA drivers, none of them work, XP Setup is not able to recognize the HD.

Surprisingly enough the BIOS SATA mode option can not be seen.

    Any idea?

    Kind regards
    Lionel.

    Hello

Not all BIOS contains the SATA option!
In your case, I recommend the construction of a new CD of Windows XP by using the nLite.
nLite is a free tool and allows you to include the SATA dirvers in the Win XP CD!

Then you can use the new XP disk to start and new installation of the OS

Search here in the forum! There is enough discussion on this procedure

  • Satellite P10 304 BIOS does not detect HARD and CDROM drive

My HDD p10-304 has recently failed.
I bought a new 60 GB western digital 2.5 drive "and installed today.

At startup, the BIOS does not detect the drive, but also, it does not detect the CD-ROM drive.
This makes me think that maybe it's not the player after all, maybe the onboard IDE / motherboard.

I'm kinda stuck, so it's a new drive should work fine, and I have no way to test the motherboard.

The only difference is that the insulation on the original drive sleeve should be reduced by half.
The bit important (low, where the circuits would otherwise affect metal) is always there, it is the
Few albums I had to remove but that should be no problem.

    Someone at - it suggestions?

    Thank you, Stu.

    Hello

What happens if the HARD drive is not connected to the motherboard? The BIOS recognize the CD/DVD drive correctly?

You bought the HARD drive compatible? To my knowledge the Mobile supports a HARD drive with interface IDE (ATA-5) increased.

But as you said possibly the motherboard failures and he would be advised to contact the technician during a particular test
