Satellite L40 - 14 H stops

When I hold down any key on my satellite L40 - 14 H for a few seconds, that he died, as if you remove the battery. No work record or anything :(
even, it goes off even at startup or in BIOS mode...
someone knows what's the problem?

OK, now this is something I never heard so far and it really very strange sound.
Anyway, checked if this happens when you use your laptop on AC adapter / CC and removed the battery?

  • Satellite L40 don't stop with power connected and is not in sleep mode

Hello world. I hope someone can help me. Basically, there are two problems: one with judgment of the laptop (Satellite L40 - 17U (Vista 32 bit Home Premium SP1)) down when power is connected and the other with closing the lid and put it to sleep.

    1. in recent weeks, it all of a sudden won't stop, whenever power is connected. When it's on battery, it will stop. When the power is connected, and I try to stop, it seems that it closed down (all activity stops and the led goes off) for about 1 or 2 seconds, then it goes back.

    2. when I close the lid (all settings in Vista are set to put the laptop in a State of 'sleep' when the lid is closed), the laptop enters a State where it cannot be recovered by stopping by pressing the power button for 10 seconds to close completely. When closing the cover, only the battery LED continues to Flash orange (the way it should be), but apparently the laptop keeps consuming power, because when I restart later (first having to close as described above) tends to be quite an empty battery as it was before the next redΘmarrage it (like go from 100% to 65% in 30 minutes as "standby mode"). Also, when I open the cover, the other LEDS will on new (green), but nothing happens.
After the restart first by pressing the power button for 10 seconds to close, I often get the message that Windows cannot be started and run the system repair.

I just do a completely clean install with the product recovery CD (has not installed SP1 yet), updated to v1.90 BIOS, but the problem remains.

I'm afraid that my only option will be to bring him away for a warranty repair, but knowing that these repairs can take weeks, I'd rather try a solution here could someone recommend me first. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

    Thank you

    Hi guys

Never had this problem on my laptop, but with regard to an other users here in the forum the BIOS might help solve such strange behavior for laptop
To be honest the closed question is unclear for me I noticed a problem before on my laptop but the update of the BIOS helped.

This is why I recommend update BIOS first.
If the problem still appears, the ASP should take a look in the notebook.

  • Satellite L40-139 - cannot stop because it still restarts

    Hi all

I have a l40-139 with 2 GB of RAM & Vista Home Premium. Since I bought this laptop there was 1 single persistent bug. When I select (any method) shutdown the laptop reboots always.

I have disabled all options "wake on" power.

I've updated the drivers and BIOS. And I can't get Windows vista just to stop when required. He has always turned off then restarts 3 seconds later. The only way to ensure that it turns off and stays off it to press the power button for 10-15 seconds. Or delete lead battery & power.

I googled and not found a solution.

Does anyone else have this problem? and a fix for it.

    Thank you

    Hello

A friend of mine had the same problem. He solved the problem as it has disabled more upward on the LAN feature in the BIOS and Windows.
Check the BIOS for this option and Windows you can find it in Device Manager > properties of network card.

In addition, I will disable the function Sleep & USB support in the BIOS.

    I hope I could help you! :)

  • Reboot to slow down or stop on my Satellite L40 - 18R

I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 - 18R laptop I am happy with it, except for a few things, my laptop is the version with a 1.6 GHz - CPU Pentium dual-core, 2 GB of RAM and I bought a 200 GB 7200 RPM Hitachi travelstar (internal). I use Vista Home premium 32-bit (significantly the same as on my other non-Toshiba laptop).

The problem I have is that my other laptop restarts and stops as fast, but my Toshiba is always very slow, sometimes nothing happens before, after about 20 sek, after I clicked on stop or restart and sometimes my Toshiba responds instantly, but takes time before it actually stops or starts to reboot, it is not faster from my other laptop (CPU is faster) , time to start even with my non-Toshiba is faster (it has also 2 GB ram 7200 RPM Hitachi travelstar but only 1.5 GHz Intel Celeron mobile processor). Both have the same software, firewalls and zonealarm and avast 4.8 antivirus (free versions). My Toshiba has only gotten more music, videos and software (that Toshiba has put on the DVD of vista).

What can I do to get my Toshiba to restart, shut down much faster than it doing now? I asked in other Danish forums, but no one could help me!

I used a vista Home premium 32 bit DVD (original, Microsoft) for my laptop Toshiba-no and the Toshiba Vista DVD for my Toshiba.

PS: My vista is a Danish version because my native language is Danish

I think it's the software relatede because with ubuntu (live DVD) I Don t I have this problem.

  • How to stop Satellite L40 - 14N connect to non-preferred networks?

I'll put up a Satellite L40 - 14N notebook and only want it to be able to connect to a designated wireless LAN router. The network adapter is a Realtek RTL8187B and the laptop runs Windows Vista Edition home premium (v6.0.6000). The machine is currently working on a WLAN with WPA pre-shared key.

I have read a number of Web pages such as:

    http://ask-Leo.com/how_can_i_block_neighboring_wireless_networks.html

At halfway on this page, it displays the setting "Automatically connect to non preferred networks" in one of the boxes of properties. In the property fields I see on this machine the I can't find this setting and I don't have a list of options to change the priority of connection or preferred networks.

Does anyone know if the automatic connection to other networks can be disabled on this computer and if so... How?

I need the machine for details of a unique WLAN connection and if the network is not present then do not access anything else.

I noticed the "Connect to a more preferred network if available" parameter in one of the other properties boxes, is this similar?

    Any help much appreciated! :-)

    Pete

    Hello

"As explained on the website of the 3rd party you should uncheck the option to automatically connect to the non preferred networks.
You must mark the neighbours WLan and press the properties button.
Then a new window should open and on the Connections tab, you should * uncheck * the option called + Connect then this network is in range.

Hello, I have a problem with the SATELLITE L40-139

the thing is when I press the power button / stop, hard drive led will begin to Flash, CD-ROM led is lit and the screen is black. I noticed that advise in the CD-ROM makes a sound ICT in the same way the hdd led flashes (when it flashes I hear a tick form CD, yes I unfolded any computer laptop).

I can only say that I have connected my PC HARD drive and it's working., good fan is not working too, but I think it will start, after some time (as he always did)

Notebook crash circumstances are now saying: that a year ago, he fell from 1 inch (such height ;]) I saw that the ribbon cable connecting the touchpad to the mohterboard was broken and my diidn can't start computer, I thought that there's a problem, but I forgot and left the laptop for more than 9 months (with hard disassebled and battery and cd-rom drive) and then I decided to try to turn it on.
And viola! It works it boots etc.

After a month of being happy, I'm drunk I couldn't sit on the Chair and I decided to sleep with my laptop on the bed, I lied right down and put the laptop on my belly and it crashed (screen freezes) so I decided to reboot, but it does not start.

Here is a video with what I get when turning the power on it: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC0pGBBVwJk] (not Fortunately my phone fell in the mud and shifts when I record videos)

Some people suggest I should connect an external display to see if theres no picture but the result is always the same. (Screen not even fuels not on)

Maybe someone could help me fix without sending it to the customer service.

    See you soon.

On this virtual path, it is not easy to say what the problem is here. Of course, you can try to do some tests and try to make some conclusions which may be wrong. After his last stop somewhere I think that there is big problem with graphics card. Of course I can't say it for sure.

Diagnosis just exact mainboard can offer answers. I m afraid mainboard is dead and must be exchanged.

  • Satellite L40 breaks down after 5-10 minutes and will not return

    I hope someone can help

I have a toshiba Satellite L40. It has not been used for a while, but I need to have stuff on it.
Put it on yesterday and then crashed after 10 minutes and would not go back
    .the same thing happened today.

I took out the battery and tried just to power / and vice versa, but no joy.
I'm not very technical was so had no idea what to try next.

    Hello

If I understand your question, the unit stopped automatically.
Such judgment may be related to high temperatures inside the laptop.

L40 series is a bit old and probably the cooling vents and grilles are obstructed by dust.
Try to remove the dust using a jet of compressed air. Generally, this lets get removed dust and it helps to keep the temperature low.

Of course, this procedure would only if the problem is related to high temperatures.
In the case of the laptop shuts down for other reasons, this workaround would be useless

You said you need to get something from him in this case you could remove the internal HARD disk and could connect to another laptop computer through SATA to USB controller.

  • Satellite L40: Windows Vista unable to connect to the network

My Satellite L40 laptop was connecting to my network wireless perfectly since Christmas. But two days ago, it stopped! I can see the networks available on the laptop but when I try to connect I get the message "Windows cannot connect to the network. Following the link to "Diagnose the problem" has no useful effect.
I installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1 yesterday to try to solve the problem, but always without success.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Select this option.

    Hello

Please go to the drivers Toshiba download page and download the latest Wlan driver for your wireless card installed, then remove the old driver and install a new one. It should work.

Otherwise, you should try to recover your entire system and replace the drivers installed by some more recent...

  • Satellite L40 - how to restore factory settings?

I really hope that someone can help me before I break my laptop.

I have a portable Satellite L40, who started showing an error logonui.exe on the login page, at the same time, the error avrt.dll started and my sound stopped working.
I tried to put a new avrt.dll file, which it won't let me.
So I decided to do a clean install of the operating system (vista).

I don't have a recovery disk to do it well, so I tried to do a factory reset, by pressing F11, 0 and C, I was able to access the page where you enter your product key, which said while the sources\install.wim was not present and could not continue.
Then I tried F8 Repair computer, that when he goes to the page with 6 options, does give me the option of HARD drive recovery, it is said to restore complete windows, but don't give out information when I press on it.

Does anyone know if there is a way to solve this problem, as I'm getting rather annoyed now. Thank you

    Hey Buddy

As I m wrong not Sat L40 has not was equipped with HARD drive recovery option.
So, you won't be able to recover without recovery disks or Microsoft Windows disk.

Put the recovery disk (if you don t have this recovery disk using your own drive of Microsoft Windows) and boot from the CD or DVD.
The required drivers are available on the Toshiba page and you could download it after the installation of the OS Win.

Notes; you need the serial key of Microsoft to activate windows. You cannot use the Toshiba serial key which is placed at the bottom of the unit. It belongs to the preinstalled OEM version and will not work with your private version

I have a * Toshiba Satellite L40-18 L *. The software is very slow and I decided to format it. But when it has been formatted it gorge yourself a mistake.

I don't know what to do, because the windows no longer works and I can not even formatting.

    What can I do?

Have you tried to repeat the installation of the OS?
Please do so if it fails, it means that something might be wrong with the Windows disk or with the laptop.
You are able to install Linux on this laptop? Or you can use another CD to install Windows system?

I think you should test this in order to check out if not no problem of CD.

You can test the HARD drive by using a freeware tool called Drive Fitness Test.

  • Satellite L40 15G - Touchpad behaves erratically

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 laptop 15G, and recently, I am aware that the cursor has not correctly when using the Touchpad.

That I usually use a mouse with my laptop with absolutely NO problems, I do not know how long the touchpad works wrong.

According to the specifications of the system, the speed controller is labeled Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad, 10.0.3.0 Version.
Well, it is the last in use, because since I have detected the anomaly, I tried a lot of Synaptics Touchpad drivers with no result.

However, I have tried this [workaround | http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Keyboards-Touchpads/Solved-Synaptic-Touchpad-not-working/m-p/272949#M10565] and the Touchpad seemed to work properly. But for just 30 seconds after the startup process in Windows environment?  :|. After that, the cursor slowly begins to act erratically.
After a second reboot, the slider have the same erratic behavior as before, using the touchpad.
In Safe Mode, the problem is the same.

The only way to recreate the same "normal" cursor using touchpad behavior done this workaround mentioned before.

Note: in all cases, the buttons on the keypad two touchscreen works perfectly. If the mouse USB.

Can someone give me some clues to solve this problem?
    Thank you very much!

The solution described seems to be only a time option in case the touchpad would stop working due to some problems in the system.
But in your case, it looks like a hardware problem.

  • Satellite L40 - 14 d: can't update the BIOS

    Hello

    I have laptop Satellite L40 - 14 d.
Two months ago, I Flash my BIOS to version 5.40 successfully. But now, if I run updatebios.bat (5.50), the system will reboot, but after 1 second laptop each stop. We did update the BIOS. I tried many version of BIOS for my laptop, but without success.

    I have Windows XP installed.
PS: sorry for my bad English, I'm from the Czech Republic.
    Thanks for any response.

    Hello

    First of all I ve an interesting question;
Why do you want to update the BIOS? Various problems with the laptop?
Usually if the laptop run without problem then a BIOS update is not necessary

However, I downloaded the BIOS and first firs winflash.exe file package, I noticed!

First you must uncompress the BIOS correctly.
Then prepare the laptop for the update (AC adapter connected, don t run 3rd party applications and disconnect all external devices).
Finally, you must run the winflash.exe to start the update of the BIOS and NOT the .bat file!

    Good bye

I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 - 139 that comes with vista installed!
A month ago, I installed XP and it worked well!

Yesterday I had to reinstal XP and I chose clean instal CD and an installation process, I pressed the button to open the dvd player and you finish her!

Stupid mistake! From there if I try to boot Windows from a dvd player and the process stops at: check the configuration of your hardware! - and white screen!
    Nothing happens!
    What can I do?

Evrything else seems to work ok!
There is no problem with dvd player, because he reads a recovery for vista CD!
    Help, please!

This is a really silly situation. I'm sure that this info on the suspended installation is recorded in the MBR. I recommend you do the drive clean HARD everything including MBR.

After this try to reuse the CD of Windows XP Home edition installations.

  • Satellite L40 - 139 - after watching the video, I can't use the virtual scrolling

    Hello

I own a Toshiba Satellite L40-139 under Windows Vista 32-bit. However, I think that this problem only applies to this model as other users are experiencing the same thing.

I often watch videos online mode full screen (like on YouTube), but when I leave full-screen mode, I noticed that virtual scrolling stops working on the touchpad. This occurs in the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox. I can still move the pointer, but cannot scroll. I also note that the icon in the taskbar freezes, because it does not meet all the movements on the touchpad. I have the latest version of the driver installed (10.0.3.0).

Is it possible for Toshiba to issue an updated driver for the Synaptics pointing device which solves this problem?

    Thank you
