Satellite L500-1XC HDD Recovery help

Hi I have a Satellite L500-1XC of second hand, the former owner has installed Ubuntu (which I can't access because of password) as well as windows 7 and I try restore laptop to factory settings, but I just don't know how.

I tried to turn it off and holding, then 0 and pressing the Start button. On the bottom of the home screen says HDD Recovery at the bottom left of the screen, but after that, he just the part of the selection for me to choose Ubuntu or Windows 7 and then just charge the laptop as usual.

I tried to get the Recovery Media Creator, but I'm not. It seems that a lot of original Toshiba Utilities and supports have been removed.

If anyone can help me fix this laptop, I'd be so grateful that I can not really afford to buy a Toshiba Recovery disk.

Thank you

> I'm trying to restore the laptop to factory settings, but I just don't know how
I put t I think that HARD drive recovery would work because Linux has been installed on the HARD drive and I think that the partition table has been changed.
This might be the reason why the HDD recovery isn't working.

You can always see this Toshiba document that describes the whole HARD drive recovery procedure:
http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

So now, drive HARD recovery does not work in this case, you can only use the installation disc.
You can try to install Windows 7 using the Microsoft disk (Toshiba drivers are downloadable) or you order the disc of Arvato:

  • Satellite L500-1DT: HDD Recovery of Win 7 is stuck in an endless loop

It's a so detailed bug report please bear with me.
If you can help, or can confirm that you have had the same thing happen to you, I will be grateful.

I've owned several Toshiba laptops before and I've even worked for Toshiba so worry, I like the machine. But I have a problem with his recovery software. I just bought a laptop Satellite L500-1DT with Windows 7 64 bit, on behalf of a non-techie who lives elsewhere. Since I know from experience that I have to sometimes panic calls from field in the sense of "it became too slow", "How do I get rid of the accumulated junk", "maybe he had a virus" and so on, the first thing I checked was ASR, which is how to bring the HD to "like new" condition.

So I started out in the machine, replied to the questions until I got in the appropriate operating system, then led the program "make a recovery DVD. Double layer DVD checked ok. With the freshly made DVDs, I swapped the HD for a spare part, I had (much less: only 40 GB instead of 320) and started the rescue DVD hoping it would fix my own system to the blank disc.

He did repartition the drive according to its schema, with more or less half the space for Windows and the other half for the data, including the recovery files. He did install the system in the Windows partition. It was then restarted in Windows 7 installed in order to complete the installation. There, the trouble began: an endless loop of reboots for hours until what I stopped it.

    Loop:
    * reset
    * black screen with bright logo 4 color windows «windows startup»
    * black screen with slight blade and "Setup prepares your computer for first use.
    * blue white screen "Welcome" with "please wait" and the crossbar with green blob, saying "the installation may take several minutes. Please do not interrupt or shut down the computer! »
    * blue screen saying it stops

    Repeat the above forever.

I saw him restart way more than 10 times over several hours. And whenever he's faking, that this is the first time she did it. Of course, this is not normal!

I tried to stop with ctrl-alt-del and the Task Manager, but the white screen would go even the Task Manager, making it difficult to kill any process or even inspect what they were on top. I stopped it by holding down the power button until it shuts. Then when it restarts it said that if I wanted safe mode. I tried. He went into the routine above and at one point he says that he could not proceed with the installation, if it was in safe mode. So he restarted in normal mode and then...! It is finally out of the endless loop!

Then he asked me all the usual language, record etc., questions as he did the first time I had turned on him. This seemed good. Finally, I walked into a newly installed operating system and everything seemed fine, except that I found out later that some programs that were there before were not installed.
With bravery bordering stupidity (*) I even Redid the procedure hard disk provided instead of my rescue: first I have nuked the windows partition, then I save the HD (with F8), not with the DVD that I had done. Result: similar rigmarole, with endless reboot.

After that I stopped it, it kind-of-worked, as above, but now some programs were lacking, such as the Toshiba DVD drive.

(*) motivated by: better try now with the computer here and all my tools and other computers ready at hand, that when the computer died at home of its owner, and that's the only thing left to try with me at the other end of a line call. Been there before.

Now, that specific (DVD player), that I could download it from the support page and it installed fine. But what else might be missing or not working not that I have not noticed? The restore process is clearly not working as it should.

I'm the first or only to whom it happens? I'm doing something wrong? Is there anything else I should try?

I need to make sure that the restore procedure works perfectly while I still have the computer in my hands. If not, there is no chance that I'll be able to do a remote reinstall for my non-techie, once I asks me to clean the laptop by phone a few months from now.

    Thanks in advance

[Update: just looking for the right place where I could post what I found that other people report the same problem.] This is definitely a bug in the software distributed for W7 - 64 overlay, not a problem isolated to my machine. See for example
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=49421&TSTART=0 where the user kwarc described the same symptoms with a Satellite L505.

    Hello

First of all, I must say that I could recover my trouble free unit.
The installation of Win 7 went well and everything has been installed correctly.

    Back to you:
To me it looks like something wrong with installation maybe some HARD drive partitions were confues perhaps, HARD drive should again formatted, and then run the recovery procedure.
    You should test

    Regarding the DVD player:
As much as I know there is no DVD player for Win 7 64 bit. There are only available for Win 64 bit updated. If you need to install the DVD player for Win 7 32 bit version and then update using the patch released for Win7 64 bit.

  • Satellite L500-13Z - HDD recovery is not present

Sorry for my very bad English first!

I want to reinstall Win7 but the recovery of HARD drive menu on the screen (Boot, F8, repair,...) is not present in the menu.

If you n t understand my question, can u send me the web address of the French forum?

    Thank you

    Hello

At first, I must say that your English is good and understandable.
    So, back to your problem.

If it is not possible to repair my computer option is not available in the installation of HARD drive recovery advanced options of booting (from the recovery image stored on the HARD drive).
It can only be done with recovery DVDs.

You have created recovery DVD suite Toshiba tips and how to proceed?

  • Satellite L500-1XC - why my keyboard is acting funny?

I have a Satellite L500-1XC. I reinstall my OS (Windows 7 64-bit) using HARD drive recovery option. But after I did it I have problems with my keyboard.
When I turn on my laptop and start windows, it just automatically starts typing random continuous letter when I'm even not touching my keyboard. (for example, when I open an empty Notepad file it comes automatically types random letters). I guess it's a software problem.
So please be kind enough to give me a solution for this. :)

    Dylan

    Hello Dylan

Please install new OS using the HDD recovery procedure. If the same thing will happen again it must relate to defective hardware keyboard.

What software should give order to keyboard to act on this way?

    Hello

Does anyone know where in the United Kingdom (Web or email address) I get a caddy of hard drive and screws for a Satellite L500-1XC. Part No.AM073000200?

    Thks
    Peter.

    Hello

What caddy do you need exactly?

As far as I know that the laptop supports SATA 2.5 HDD so you will need a SATA USB caddy.

  • Satellite L500-12 q Recovery Disc Creator Error

    Hello

I have a laptop Satellite L500-12 q. I used the Recovery Disc Creator to make recovery disks. It needs 4 discs. The 1st was writtenk ok, but on the second, towards the end of the current status, it stopped advancing. It's almost an hour, and it is still not finished. I'm on the second try. The disc is spinning and the drive makes noise as if it was written, but it does not advance at all.

    Please, could you help me?

    Thank you
    Claudiu

    Claudiu Hey,.

What kind of DVD that you use to create the Toshiba recovery disks? I got also some problems to create a recovery disc but I changed DVD + R, DVD-r media and everything was ok! I used Verbatim discs to create because I have really good experience with this kind of discs. In addition, it seems that TDK discs also work quite well. Check this box!

If it doesn't work check the Toshiba page for an update of the firmware of your WEIRD!

  • Satellite L500-1DT - HDD the smart predict service failures

    Hello

I have a Satellite L500-1DT and the last days he started to say "your HARD drive has the smart predict function failures"-is that what I did for her or is it a problem to manufacturers? I only got two months.

Anyone know if I can fix it myself?
I have just in Spain and I'm here for the next two months.

    I'm useless with technology...

    Any help would be good.

    Thank you!!

    Kate

Please don't fix anything alone. New notebook has warranty valid so if something goes wrong the affected parts must be replaced and warranty will cover all costs.

Visit THIS page and read what means SMART.
In other words, your HARD disk goes wrong so please back up all your important data and contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

I don't know where you live in Spain, but to find the nearest Toshiba authorized maintainer visit the Toshiba support page under
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > find an ASP contact them as soon as possible.

    Good luck!

  • Pixel dead Satellite L500-017 - HDD is moved to another laptop?

I recently got a laptop Toshiba Satellite L500-017 (recently as in, like, 4 days ago) and the bloody screen ALREADY has a dead pixel.

I intend to trade him because he is still under warranty, but my question is this; they will replace the whole laptop, or they will be able to move the hard disk to another computer?
Considering that I've already implemented so (80 GB of programs and music) on my laptop and the amount of time that I got it before he messed up, I think that it's just that they actually past it to spare me the time.

I mean, Holy crap I have yet a week and the screen has a dead pixel! What kind of manufacturing is it?
I would not normally receive so angry, but in such a short period of time, it's already messed up, and that is it pissing me just off the coast. I know that it is a single pixel, but I don't know if it'll be only a pixel, considering how long it took to arrive.

    So my question is this;
because it is still under warranty, is it possible they can move just the hard drive on one with an another L500-017?

    Hi mate

I'm not sure if the ASP would replace the screen if only a dead pixel is visible.
I found this Toshiba FAQ on dead pixels:

+ Information about the technology and pixel for LCD screens display fault tolerance +.
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB9502LZ0000R01.htm

I think that you should simply visit your dealer where you bought this laptop and laptop should ask for replacement.
Usually the dealer should replace the entire notebook
But you must back up your data to another HARD drive because I doubt that they empty the HARD drive on another unit.

    See you soon

  • Satellite L500-128 using recovery on the new (larger) HARD drive discs

    Hi all

I have a Toshiba L500-128, the original 320 GB hard drive is just too small and I would like to avoid buying an external hard drive (for backup purposes), because in my experience, they are just rubbish and I want that all my data on the laptop.

I wanted to buy a new hard drive 1 tb (maybe 2) put into it, I guess it is equipped to deal with, (Please someone correct me if they know otherwise) with 4 GB of ram...

In any case I am really wondered, whether or not I can get out with the help of my new hard disk recovery disks.
If they did it the old-fashioned way (sending an OS disc and a disc of pilots) I wouldn't even question, but as I created disks of the computer itself, I wasn't too sure when I opened the drives upward to make sure all burned on them ok, I never saw something like what I expected.

Also, I read somewhere that someone else has tried it and it didn't work, they assumed because the recovery included an image specifically to fit the original hard drive size?

Can someone enlighten us all please?

    Thank you

    Hello

First, you must create the Toshiba Recovery disk using the Toshiba recovery disc Creator called pre-installed tool.
Usually, you should receive a confirmation message that the recovery was created successfully.
This means that you can use this disk to restore the laptop to factory settings is not serious what HARD drive is in use.
This means that the recovery disc should work with the other drives.

But note; This recovery disk using would format the HARD drive and remove all HARD drive partitions. But this should not bother you if you use the disk HARD vacuum ;)

  • Satellite L510 - no HDD Recovery area more

    Hello

Unfortunately, the image disk hard recovery went. The solution in your case:

    1. order the recovery disk https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx Note, it is not free
2 a copy of Windows vista and install it. Then, download all the required drivers and install

    Hello

My pc start up after that I did a system restore. For example, I can't use the function fn key.

Last week I tried to format my pc. But when I opened the TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator got an untimely error 00000001-49-0D00F6.

I've managed to create 2 4 DVDs. IM using Dvd - r from memorex.
    If anyone can help.

Thanks in advance for your help.

This is the first time that you try to create recovery discs?

How you created 2 discs if the Toshiba recovery disc creator starts by mistake?

Anyway, in this forum you will find similar topics. No doubt some recovery file is damaged, and the drive could not be created.
I put t think that there is something that you can about it. Either it works or not. Maybe you should contact the nearest Toshiba service and explain the situation. I hope they can help you with this and disc Toshiba DVD original to order for you.

  • Replacement for USB card does not not on Satellite L500-1XC

My paintings of USB stopped working so I got another tip for a L500 and suspect it is not compatible. The Council adapts well, but after you enter a USB he struggles to read. An iPhone or MP3 for example will reload, but you will not be able to open the file content and edit/view devices.

I tried to turn off the drivers and remove them completely and turn off the computer, wait 15 minutes and then turning back but I keep getting messages 'defective device. I'm going nuts trying to solve this as it made my phone almost useless for me. Anyone that could help I would be eternally grateful!

I suspect that the only hope on the left might be reinstalling windows, but my CD is scratched so cannot even do that.

    Hello

I put t see many options here:
The Council of USB is compatible and would work properly or its not compatible or defective and it will not work as it should.

USB drivers are part of the system and cannot be installed separately.
You must install the windows to check how the USB Board would work...,

  • Satellite L500 did not Recovery Disc 2

    Hello

I have just formatted my laptop using Recovery Disc 1. On the forums, it says after the disc 1, the menu won't ask you 2 Disc. But he never asked for disc 2. Should I have inserted just after that he asked me to eject the disc 1?
I am writing now about my newly set up Win 7. Everything seems fine, but I wonder if the lack of CD 2 will cause no problem. Is it possible to start my laptop also using the second disc?

The second disc will be created only if the first disk space is not enough! If the amount of recovery disk depends on the size of the image file.
If your laptop works, I won't be afraid on the 2nd disk missing :)
