  I received my laptop Toshiba m30 pentium 1.6 m John Lewis back after replacing the LCD screen. After using it for a few hours last night, I realized the fan did not come at once.

Also, I had already updated the bios to 1.60 and when I looked after taking over it was 1.20? Is there a reason why Toshiba needed to do this? I updated the bios to 1.60 and its still the same.

  looking at your history, it seems that you have had more than a replacement of the LCD screen. I guess the servicepartner has also changed the PCB (motherboard). If they do, they need to upgrade a special firmware to get the full speed of the CPU. If they fail to do this, the machine runs at a speed fixed 600 MHz. Just as you describe.
  So, my suggestion, contact the serviceprovider and ask them if they have changed the motherboard and if they did, ask them to update the CPU microcode.

  Just my BIOS was about 1.20 when I went to site Web from Toshiba to get the drivers to install and to found the update the BIOS so I followed instructions burn it to a disk, the last one I have and I went, but after the update, I noticed that xp says he was clocked at 600 MHz not 1 2 GHz.

  If the firmware is not updated your CPU would be stuck at 600 Mhz.

  The processor and my Satellite M30 bus seems to be significantly under speed. According to Windows XP Pro and Solaris Nevada, the processor is clocked at 600 MHz. The frequency of the BIOS, scaling parameter is set to "Still high", and I tried to disable ACPI in the operating system (ensuring no interference on the software side), without result. I tried to update the version of the bios from 1.20 to 1.70 successfully and I have restored the default value believing it could be a related problem of bios , but nothing changes.

  The problem is present in a new installation of Windows XP (from recovery CD), so I think I could exclude a software problem.

  Satellite M30 laptop is very nice. I worked for about 6 months on this laptop. For me the laptop is powerful enough and upgrade the CPU is really not necessary. What you need to do is upgrade of RAM at the level maximum and of course good configuration of the OS.
