Satellite M40 - 244 sudden stop - cooling/temperature problem?

Hello everyone!

For about 1 week, my laptop M40-244 became unable to cool down! Then, of course, more often, it stops suddenly to avoid any damage. I am sure that this problem is triggered out of cooling, simply by touching the left side of the key board it is easy to feel the (high-temperature 8 -

My QUESTION is: is it possible for me to avoid the repair?

I'm in Shanghai, I can not expensive toll-free phone and surprisingly that I have not found in the Web from Toshiba site any way to contact a Toshiba support by e-mail (if someone knows a way, please tell me!)

Because it's very curious: my laptop is '8-month-old', never this kind of problem to date, and Toshiba is well known for a good cooling system. Recently, my laptop did not shock. Would it be possible that the fan has suddenly stopped working well?

I tried to "verify" my laptop, but the failed to install of Speedfan and Motherboard Monitor 5 seems unsuited to the M40 244 then he is totally unable to find any sensor Board! Now, I've seen in some forums and website the possibility of the "underclocking", or a way to 'reset' the BIOS fan, but, Wow!, I am not an expert! What it means? It is possible with a laptop computer, or it is only possible with a PC?

Here go us! I can go to a store of Toshiba and I guarantee, but it is required to serve 1 week without my laptop so professionally, she is extremely boring for me!

Sorry, I'm a little long and sorry for my English (I'm French!), but If someone KNOWS A WAY THAT ALLOWS ME TO SOLVE this COOLING PROBLEM BY MYSELF, please tell me!

Thanks in advance,

Fred

Hi Fred

Vacuuming, cleaning procedure is not bad and very easy, but be careful. But if it does not help you should contact Toshiba service partner.
The fact is that your laptop is under warranty and if there is a serious problem with the cooling module and fans the service partner must check.

If you click this link, you will find the list of the FSA from Toshiba:
http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/Su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?PF=true

In addition, you should check the settings in the energy saver because this Toshiba tool that controls the use of the CPU and cooling method.

Good luck

  • Satellite M40-244 - cannot start from CD after driver change

    Hi all

I have a Satellite M40-244 and the original DVD drive is faulty. So I changed the drive with one that is exactly the same (same brand, same date of manufacture).

Under Windows, the new disk is recognized and works perfectly. However, when I try to boot from the CD, I am not able to do. I successfully changed the boot sequence in the bios, I tried all possible combinations without success.

One thing I remember is that when I tried to boot from the faulty driver, I got the message 'Not bootable CD' (the tested CD is bootable and tested on other computers)

Any idea anyone, I desperately need to install a new OS. :-(

    Hello

I doubt that you can boot from CD t if your drive works properly in Windows...
You can try another disc of starting, for example the Toshiba recovery disc or the disc from Microsoft, please?

  • Satellite M40 - 244--> Boot from a USB

    Hi all

I have a Satellite m40-244 with a DVD player which unfortunately is out of service.

I would like to know if it is possible to boot from a USB key to reinstall Windows or Linux. In the BIOS there only HDD, floppy, CD-ROM, and LAN drive options.

Does anyone know how to boot from a USB? I tried an external USB DVD drive, it does not work. I don't know if I'm doing the right way.

    Thank you.

    Hello

As far as I know that of not possible because the M40 BIOS does not support this!
As you mentioned in your ad; There is only one option for booting from the HARD drive, ODD, LAN and USB FDD (floppy)

  • Satellite L850 - webcam suddenly stopped working

The web cam on my Satellite L850 has suddenly stopped working.

    It does not appear in Device Manager;
    I downloaded the latest driver on the Toshiba site;
    I checked the BIOS and the web cam is turned on;
Always when I open the web cam application I get the following message:

"webcam initialization failed Please restart request and camera control.

I scoured the advice forum and short of a return to the top and reboot disk HARD, I find no reasonable answer. I can't back up as I am away from home is out of the question. I need web conference call cam / call my family to the United Kingdom back.

Tired of going round in circles and getting nowhere.

    Any suggestions?

Even if you have not changed the settings in the BIOS, you must Access the BIOS to make sure that the webcam is turned on it!

I also recommend the suite of this workaround:
    Uninstall the webcam software
    Uninstall the VAP
Uninstall all software needed the webcam (Skype, etc...)
Now, restart and install CCLeaner (cleaning of freeware software)
    Reboot once more.
Run CCleaner and clean the system and the registry.
    Reset
Now follow with installation of VAP
    Reset
    Install the webcam software
    Reset
    Test webcam.

    Good luck

  • Satellite M40-225 suddenly switching OFF

Has anyone ever experienced their series M40 suddenly turn off without warning, with the power supply on and for no apparent reason? More generally, it occurs when writing in Word for an extended period (e.g. 2 hours). I ran several software spyware and viruses to see if there was something like that causing the problem, but everything is clear.

What it might be and there at - it an easy way to fix it?

    Hello

Maybe overheating! Satellite M40 is two years old now, and I can imagine that there is more dust inside. I recommend to clean it up and you will see that the unit won't stop and will also work a lot more silent as before.

  • Satellite M40 - start and stop issue

    Hello

I have a problem with my laptop Satellite M40 on stop to the low process sometimes also on windows start and I think it's BIOS associates.

When I start my laptop, sometimes (not always) I get an error message in a blue screen saying that my BIOS is not fully ACPI-compatible... I reboot, and if I wait a while, the system boots normally, but if I just restart immediately, he'll get the same message.
It happens sometimes that the computer goes further opening in the black screen message: contact tomorrow: toshiba

The other problem, I don't know if it of related or not, is that the computer is not shut down or restart. I have to do it by pressing the button for a while. I thought it was an application that I had in my system that was the cause, but I have just formatted the hard drive and the same mistakes are still ongoing...

When it stops, it stops right on the message: 'Windows is shutting down... ". »

I updated my BIOS with the new available for download here to toshiba support, and I think it was the trigger for all these problems... now I don't know how to go back, or even if it's the reason.
I really hope someone here can help me, because I just wanted all the information related to the internet without success.

    Thank you!

    Hello

Satellite M40 is well-known for me because one of my friends has one at home. Laptop very nice.

So, what can I say? It's really not easy to say what the problem is here, but if you use Windows XP Home edition for a long time, it can happen that one day to happen strange things. I believe that no one here can say with certainty what the problem with your machine.

If possible, you should clean OS installation using recovery media delivered. After doing this, you should see what is happening. In this case, no one can say that there are programs that have bad influence on the execution of the operating system.

  • Satellite Pro M10 suddenly stopped starting or to reach the POSITION

Hi all, hope someone can help or advise me on what to do.
My Pro M10 suddenly stopped starting or to reach the POSITION.
When the switch is pressed, green light turns on and stays on and that of about it, no display and not even the rotation of the fan to the top. :(

Funniest, it is the battery always fresh and is fine.
As you know, this model is out of warranty now and I'm technically minded and disassembled laptops before so I don't mind open my machine.

Just thought I would ask here first before doing so.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction of what's wrong, have heard a rumor that the M10 with a video fault, but surely would not stop the machine POST'ing would still.

    Thank you very much
    JayZ

    Hi Jay,.

Difficult to pin-point your problem remotely as you will understand, however, I expect the laptop either emit a series of beeps (in a type long, short of the boss) or else Flash HQ led to give some clues as to the reason for the failure of the POST.

First I'll try to remove/replace the modules of RAM, hard disk and also the optical drive to see if it improves the situation. Otherwise, I would tend to suspect the motherboard failure.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite C650 - sound suddenly stopped working

    Hello.

I bought this laptop the month last November.
in any case, around a week or two ago, the noise suddenly would not work.

He started making strange noises when I put in the headphones and speakers just made no noise at all never.
I did a lot of weird things - like system restore, reinstall audio drivers but nothing worked until I updated the bios, then everything went well and the sound worked again.

However, today, the sound suddenly stopped working again. I tried to re - install the current bios but InsydeFlash says: "the version of the ROM file is the same BIOS version" and just closes.

I searched the internet for an older version of the bios, but when I try to install it, InsydeFlash said: 'the version of the ROM file is not newer than the version of the BIOS' and of course, I know that but then it closes too!

I'm not really good at computers or anything, any help at all would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hello

    I recommend checking some options first;
-check if mute is not activated
-check if all the volume controls are set to a higher value
-check if the sound using headphones

If this is not successful, you must reinstall the audio driver.
First go to Device Manager and uninstall the audio driver. Restart the device
Download the audio driver from the Toshiba page, then reinstall it. Reboot once again and test the sound.

  • Satellite M40: Win XP install after crash problem - ser.number system

    Hello

I would ask you what I'll do. I bought new computer toshiba satellite m40 laptop about 5 years in London.
There was no Win XP Recovery cd (no partition recovery on the hard disc as well), just cd with drivers of toshiba in the box. Now my system crashed.

Took me a long time to understand what it was. (BSOD - 'not ACPI-compliant') I almost tried everything same format of HARD drive.
Later I completely dismantled cell, cleaned up the dust inside and it works again - no BSOD.

Now I need to install my WinXP back. So I downloaded Windows XP service pack 3 CD and tried to install it.
It won't take my serial number I have on a sticker on my toshiba.

Please help me, what should I do?

I paid for WinXP (System was included in the price) and now I can't use it.

    > There was no Win XP Recovery cd (no partition recovery on the hard disc as well), just cd with drivers of toshiba in the box.

I put t think that recovery disk came with the laptop.
Recovery disk shipped with the laptop from the M40 because it s an old series of laptop and drive HARD recovery was not available on this old laptop series. If HDD recovery is not available and that the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator was not preinstalled, then you will always get a disc of recovery with Notepad.

Therefore, I am sure this recovery disk was part of the package as the other disks (disk s, tools and utilities in Toshiba driver base) were part of the package.

The point is that the serial number which is a space at the bottom of the unit belongs to the operating system on the recovery disk.
Generally, you may not use other Windows systems.
The recovery disc has already been activated, and therefore, it was not necessary to activate it again.

Please check this page of order recovery disk Toshiba:
    https://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx
Here you can order recovery disks, but I do not know if your laptop is still supported because it 5 years.

  • Satellite C855 - speakers suddenly stopped working

I have a Satellite C855-1J2 running Windows 7 Edition Home Premium SP1. I turned on December 21, 2012 and installed five applications - the latest versions of Firefox, CeltX, Notepad ++, Open Office and Microsoft Security Essentials (I removed McAfee). I have the latest Windows. Since then I have not installed other applications.

Three days later, my laptop was working fine until, suddenly, that the speakers stopped working. I can identify the specific incident that caused it. I connected a pair of perfectly ordinary headphones using the standard headphone jack, power the laptop off, after that I was done listening but headphones plugged on the left.

When I turned on the laptop back the next day, no sound came in headphones.
When I unplugged them, no sound came from the speakers.
I rebooted my machine and the speakers worked fine.

However, I am now in a situation where whenever I turn on my laptop, the speakers do not work and they will work again when I restart then. A little investigation of this problem shows the following...

Whenever I turn on my laptop and go to control panel-> hardware and sound-> manage Audio devices I see two items:

    (1) ' - high definition Audio Device - speakers not plugged"with a speaker greyed out icon with a red arrow.

    (2) "audio digital (S/PDIF) - high definition Audio Device - default device" with a colored external amplifier icon (it looks a bit like a DVD player) with a green check mark. There is an icon of audio level next to him that shows sound whenever the sound is played on my laptop, but no sound is audible, either through my speakers or headphones.

Whenever I then reboot my laptop and go to control panel-> hardware and sound-> manage Audio devices I can see an article:
"Speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio - Default Device" with a colorful speaker and a green arrow icon. The sound works perfectly well.

I already looked online and the Toshiba forums for a solution to this, but while I found lots of people with similar problems of speaker with Toshiba Satellite laptops, I have not found a solution (and when I say something, I mean something a little more useful that "have you tried completely reinstalling your operating system') so this thread.

Even if a reboot is currently to solve my problem, I obviously shouldn't have to restart my machine at all in order to get something as simple as his, so my questions are:
    (1) what is the cause of this problem - in other words, why what is happening?
    (2) what is the Toshiba solution to this problem?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

It seems to me that the issue you described above that the speakers would not be chosen as device by default, but the Audio Digital (S/PDIF).
Somehow the audio driver cannot detect the first initialization of the system speakers.

I don't know why this happened but I have two proposals:

(* 1) * uninstall the audio driver from the system. Download the driver from his most recent of the Toshiba page and install it after restarting the laptop first.

(* 2) * if installing the audio driver is not enough, the last resort would be the recovery of the system.

(> 2) what is the Toshiba solution to this problem?
If you want to get a recommendation of Toshiba, I would give advice to connect with people. It is the community of users.

  • Satellite A50-110 suddenly stopped working

    Toshiba Satellite SA50-110 psa50e

I have a Toshiba laptop, and suddenly it stopped working,

I mean when it is, I only see a black screen with the letters

    N
    password = *.

I don t know who did it, but there is nothing written in the manual, I tried the restore cd that came with the laptop.
Nothing works at all; I even tried some backdoor passwords

I opened the laptop but didn t find any type of battery, there is only one big battery.
How looks like the bios battery?

    Hello

Are you sure that it is a BIOS password?
There are two possible passwords: password HARD drive and the BIOS password
You are able to access the BIOS? You can access the BIOS by pressing the ESC key.

Anyway, if this is a BIOS password then you will not be able to remove it without the help of ASP.
The BIOS password can be removed like on the desktop PC! The procedure is different

It s really strange that the laptop request a password if you didn t put, but as I said above, only the ASP could remove this password.

  • Satellite C660-125: Software Message: cooling system problem

It has detected a problem with the cooling system please pay immediately the computer and return it for service

This message appeared recently, pc works well and only bought last month, is an isssue of software and how can I solve this problem.

    Hello

It seems that it is a software bug. You should recover the laptop using Toshiba HDD recovery or Toshiba Recovery disk that you create by using the recovery disk creator

Usually the message should not appear in the future

But don t be afraid if you didn t notice a higher temperature, and if the laptop only turns off automatically, then everything should be ok!

All the drivers are ok and updated and the laptop bought 1 nine months ago

    Hey Buddy,

You may notice the same behavior if you connect headphones or external speakers? Maybe it of just a bad setting and sound with external devices, you can test this.

Also have a look on the Windows sound settings. You can change the balance between the left and right speakers.

If he s really a hardware malfunction, please contact an authorized service provider. Guys will have to repair your laptop (free) warranty.

  • Satellite M40 will not stop, restart, or go into sleep mode

    Hello
I need help with my laptop. Recently, I was unable to shut down my computer. After trying to close it through windows, the screen goes black, but the system and the light around the power button remains on. I can only turn off my computer by holding down the power button. Also if I try to sleep or restart, the same thing happens.

I think this may have something to do with the energy saver, since the symbol disappears sometimes, or it will be a red circle with a line crossed out through it on top of the icon. I also sometimes get a message saying that something in the sense of: "a fatal error has occurred, this program will end. code 0 x 57 ".

Any ideas on what is happening and what I can do about it?

    Hello

The error message "a fatal error has occurred, this program will end. code 0 x 57"belongs to the Toshiba Power Saver installed.
I think you should try to reinstall.

    Regarding Win XP shutdown issue.
Sometimes my laptop does not correctly close because of some processes that are running in the background.
Usually all processes must be closed before that windows would shut down the laptop.

But sometimes this type of process can not be closed for reason not apparent... seems that it would be if the registry could be confused to the top...

I cleaned mu OS using a cleaning tool. You can test a CCLeaner. It is not bad and free.

Hi all, n00b to laptops and first post. OK, I usually build and repair desktop computers, so much easier to win the centimeters!
My daughter turned on his laptop A30 last night and only 2 keys worked. Tried to restart and go into the BIOS but could not. Tried to start in safe mode, only the top and bottom of work therefore impossible to select Safe mode... doh. Guess it must be a harware issue.

Restarted in Xp an open upward Notepad... this time, about 5 keys working. Reboot, 3 keys etc etc.

How to cable Ribbon to make sure it is placed correctly. It is common for a keyboard to fail in this way and it is easy to get a replacement?
