Satellite P20: Sounds Jumpy

Hello

Whenever my computer makes a noise (starting play music, sounds etc.), the result is really nervous and past often to the next track... its driving me crazy. Does anyone else have this problem? Is this a hardware problem?

Hello

If you have this problem just using the CD/DVD and CD of music listening device, it may be hardware problem. If it appears with the mp3 files or watch a DVD, there may be some other reason for it.

Since when you have this problem? Have you installed a software that runs permanently in the background?

    Hello

What doesn work sound t? Only the operating system Windows sound doesn t work or also you don t have the sound output if play you CDs or watch DVDs?

To me it looks ;) entries damaged registry and/or files of the OS.
What about the new operating system installed?

It would be very interesting to know if it happens on the new OS installed since the Toshiba Recovery CD.

  • External monitor gives strange aspect ration with Satellite P20 XP

I have a P20-552 (PSP26E-025E9-S4), who is four years and works well with XP Home SP3. For more screen space while editing video I recently bought an external monitor - an Acer X193w. It shows everything what is shown crashed down a little bit, that is to say, but it should show., a circle has a distinctive oval to it.

It is plugged into my Toshiba with analog cable and the only resolutions that it will give me are 1280 x 1024, 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600 which none do actually correspond to the 1440 x 900 on my Toshiba.

I tried all the settings that I could find, made sure my BIOS and nVidia are up-to-date and I exchanged a few e-mails with Acer support on the subject. Their support staff is now leading me round in a circle ("it is plug and play," "oh yes, that's sounds wrong", "here is the pilot", "no, we don't give installation instructions" and so on) and still no joy. The screen plug and play perfectly with an another Vista laptop that I have, but I really like to use with my Toshiba faithful.

    Suggestions, please?

    Thank you, Brian.

    Hello Brian

Sorry, but I believe that there is not a lot, you can do it. It is 19 wide TFT screen and your laptop s video card does not offer good resolution for it. Display modes Satellite P20 cannot offer the resolution 1440 x 900 for external displays.

    * All you can do is try to change the driver display, but on your own risk.*

  • My Satellite P20 is not on the current

    Hello!

Well, I had another problem of management power to you guys.

So far I have deal with overheating and abrupt shut down of the computer that was tied to it and clean the heat sinks fixed - it is ok now.

On the other hand - management/battery charge always bothers me now and then... .and now, it is "then" to my penalty.

It seems obvious that Toshiba knows about this problem and so I would really like to get answers to 'them '!

I just lost a job due to the fact that my computer has stopped in charge, empty the battery, then press stop without a warning when the battery was empty (without a sound warning and I on 25%)

I removed the battery and tried to start the computer, but it will not activate... .so I have to plug in/plug out the power cord several times until I get a charge light... .and then it powers up*@*!

The strange thing is that, for the 3 last months or if she was very well (before that I had more or less the same problem), but after moving from my laptop in the House, it did it again!

Any Toshiba brain read this?... causes I know I'm not the only one - common and show our free s and tell us why this is happening, please!

It is not used much for a powerless computer, you know!

    Greetz,
    INGI

    Hi Ingi

Sorry, but I don t agree with you. I use Satellite P20-303 almost three years and it works like the first day. Expanded memory up and cleaned the vents for a short period. It runs very quiet and pleasant. I love this device.

Because of this, you can't write about a common problem on this unit. It is always possible that some users have a similar problem but that don t mean any notebook series has a serious breach.

Second thing is that this forum is just the forum users and if you want the response from their partner service contact in your country, explaining the situation and I hope that they should be able to help you. I'm not a technician but I think there is a problem of electronic power and because of that, you have different questions (battery does not charge properly).

I recommend you to speak with the authorized service partner. Call them and ask what can be the problem.

    Good bye

  • Satellite P20 S203 does not recognize my additional 1 GB memory

    Hi all

My computer (Satellite P20 S203) does not recognize my second Bank of memory (1 GB). I have two banks of memory of 1 GB installed. BIOS reports only 1 GB, Windows reports that 1 GB and my Linux so he says only 1 GB of memory. I removed each Bank of memory and restarted the computer successfully in each of the two slots, No Problem, but when the two banks of memory are inserted, it always uses only 1 GB. My BIOS is on version 2.10:

BIOS is the PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0

I know it's an old computer (about 10 years), but what could cause such a problem?

Thanks a lot for any advice or suggestions!

    Kind regards
    Andy

    Hi fuegi_1,

    The upgrade modules, bought exactly?

To me it sounds like that it s a compatibility problem or your computer laptop doesn't support 2 GB.

If you use two memory modules, you must only use two modules of the same production.

  • Satellite P20 - beeps at startup after cleaning the keyboard

    Hey!

I have a Satellite P20, which is strange. I have cleaned the keyboard (deleted, took apart and cleaned all the keys) but when I boot up to now (I have connected the keyboard) it will * beep beep * beep beep beep beep * on me (sounds like one of those things in the hospital). If I wait for some time, it ends by starts XP but then some keys (5%) did not respond (S and arrow down to name a few).

I tried to start with the keyboard disconnected and that works like a charm.

Then it is the keyboard that is defective? (I'd rather not buy a new one just to have the same problem) or is it keyboard connector or hurt (I have unplug and connected the keyboard several times)

I am very grateful for any help or advice I can get.

    Best regards

    / Martin

It is strange, but maybe the keyboard is defective, as you say.
Or you don t have the keyboard connected to mainboad correctly. Check again.

Maybe a key is always pushed and get the beeps. Select this check box.

  • Satellite P20-304 stops unexpectedly

I have a laptop satellite P20 304 coming sometimes turns off without warning.
The screen goes black and the power is off.

This sometimes happens during a search, but alos is writing a letter. If not necessary a high workload for the laptop.

Opening vents are free etc. I guess maybe an overheating problem, but wonder if this causes this kind of stop procedere.
Also - there no poping blue screen or report failure upwards by re-start such as "the system will be re-stored after a major system crash ect.

No idea what it could be.

I installed Sandra Sisoft to monitor the temperature, but it only shows me no module to control the temperature,
respectively, that it does not work.

My warranty runs out in June, so I want to make sure that I can claim any defect prior to that.

    Thnaks for any input,
    concerning

    Hello

It's not very easy to say why this laptop stops. It could be an overheating problem or a malfunction of the software. But I tend to overheat.
Well, the problem of overheating occurs due to her malfunctioning fans or malfunction of the equipment.
I assume that your warranty is valid, so I recommend you to check your laptop in service partner. Maybe, it can give you a good answer, why this problem occurs.

  • Satellite P20 S203: update BIOS after version 1.70

Hello! I have a Satellite P20 - S203 BIOS is Ver1.70, published on 20/11/2003. I think there pretty outdated now, but there has been no new versions for years and I think that this great computer, despite the old, should be more supported. What I don't understand is why they made an exit for the PSP23E and not for the PSP20E, that make the differences that they should deserve to be updated bios different?

Does anyone of you know about BIOS versions after 1.70 which allow the laptop to boot from SD cards or removable media? And that the problems of the management of multiple USB devices?
    Thank you

    Hello

I use P20 over two years, without any update of the BIOS. If your device works well I recommend you to leave. Boot from the SD card is not possible and update the BIOS will not allow this.

What problem do you have with the USB devices?

  • Satellite P20: Possible Solutions to improve my video card

Hi, I own a Satellite P20, which features:

  • Problem of graphics card on Satellite P20 552 & Qosmio G10

    Hallo,

    I have two 17-inch monitors computers laptop Toshiba as desktop replacement: 1 x Satellite P20 552 & 1 x Qosmio G10.
Both are dead graphics card problem.
The conclusion of my research on the WEB, it's the nVidia FX Go5700 card seems to be the weak point of these laptops.

On the Satellite Map dies slowly: during startup Toshiba logo disappeared but WinXP logo was very good load, then WinXP loaded with the screen not refreshing and the problem of synchronization, etc..
The Qosmio died suddenly: activities on the hard drive I guess load WinXP, but black screen (internal and external)!

I know that, unlike the desktop computer, the graphics processor is not a separate entity; It is built into the motherboard. My questions are:

    (1) who should be blamed, Toshiba or Nvidia?
    (2) how to prevent premature rupture of the card/motherboard?
    (3) the card/motherboard could be repaired?

    Hallo

I have red Satellite P20 304 and it still works well. Maybe you can offer this story to someone else, but I can say that Satellite P20 is great for laptop. I like it. Old, but still has an attractive design.
If you have no luck I can understand it but to talk in general and write about weakness is for me nothing more than absurd.

Nice questions here especially one. :)
1 - to blame someone will help any. Try to get the replacement and get it working again.
    2. There is nothing you can do. All you can do is to take care of the use of the laptop and do not overheat.
    3. as far as I know that something like this is not possible. In this case the motherboard will be replaced.

What you can do is to check eBay from time to time. You may be lucky and you can buy used motherboard for a good price and exchange it.

    Hi Paolo

Before trying what whether the device correctly. My previous unit was Satellite P20-303, and after two years, there is a lot of dust inside the unit. Maybe is the reason for closing overheating. You have second hand unit and who knows how the previous user has used the device.

  • Can speeds of DVD - I play slower pre-recorded DVD - Satellite P20 801

I have a Satellite P20 801. I think to buy a DVD burner, so I can transfer VHS to DVD hardware. If I recorded it at a slower speed, would I be able to play on my laptop? How can I tell if the DVD on the P20 player can play different rhythms - assuming that's possible?

    Thank you.

    Hello

As far as I know that the recording speed is not relevant for play. You can save on the minimum or maximum speed DVD and the DVD can be played on your P20. My previous laptop was P20 and I never had no problem with this.
