Satellite Pro A60: what RAM should I take?

Hello.
I have a Satellite Pro A60 P4 532, with the following:
3.06 GHz/XP Pro/256 MB/40 GB/15TFT/DVD-CDRW/LAN/WiFi

I want to add memory (256 MB).
On the web site of Toshiba, they lead me to the PA3127U - 1 M 25 (DDR PC2100), but I see that for almost similar laptops they offer the PA3311U - 1 M 25 (PC2700 DDR)

* 256 MB DDR PC2100 (PA3127U - 1 M 25)
-P4 532 (3.06 GHz) / XP Pro/256 MB/40 GB/15TFT/DVD-CDRW/LAN/WiFi
-Celeron D335 (2.8 GHz) / XP Home/256 MB/40 GB/15TFT/CD-RW/DVD-LAN

* 256 MB DDR PC2700 (PA3311U - 1 M 25)
-P4 532 (3.06 GHz) / XP Pro/256 MB/40 GB/15TFT/DVD-CDRW/LAN
-P4 532 (3.06 GHz) / XP Pro/512 MB/60 GB/15TFT/DVD-R/RW/LAN
-Celeron D335 (2.8 GHz) / XP Pro/256 MB/40 GB/15TFT/CD-RW/DVD-LAN

Can I take the PC2700?
Not for the best performance, but it is cheaper!

In addition, it is the same problem with 512 MB...

Thank you

Hello

Yes, you can take PA3311U - 1 M 25 (PC2700 DDR).

  • Memory should what upgrade I buy for my Satellite Pro A60?

Hi, I have a Satellite Pro A60 PSA65E, who currently has 192 MB of RAM and 2.8 GHz Celeron processor.

My problem came when I tried to install Adobe Creative Suite 2 on it, but it would not allow me to do so because he needed 384 MB of RAM to run it. I was wondering if someone could tell me what RAM upgrade is compatible with my machine and if it inserted in another port or if I have to get out the old and replace?

    Thank you

    Hello

your laptop is 256 MB internal memory, I'm not sure why it shows only 192 MB. This internal memory can be replaced only by a technician. But you also have a currently unused memory slot, in which you can place a maximum of 1024 MB of RAM.

Here are the modules from Toshiba lets you:
    PC2700 256 MB (PA3311U - 1 M 25)
    PC2700 512 MB (PA3312U - 1 M 51)

I have fitted on the correct port, however, there does not appear to be be achnoledged as being there.
    Can someone help me?

    Hi Robert,.

I guess your A60 has two RAM ports, then I suggest that Exchange you the two RAM modules autour to check if the port rather than the modules itself that is the source of the problem.

I hope that you took of anti-static precautions before manipulating the new RAM module. They are easily damaged by a discharge of static electricity.

Hi guys, I got a Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 for about a year now and am lloking to buy little RAM for that I met two links that seem similar, but have different prices. The first link is www.dabs.com and it is "Crucial 1 GB 200pin SODIMM PC2700 DDRRAM without parity"

    Hello

The original RAM module apart from the number PA3313U-1M1G (1024 MB PC2700). It is always recommended to use tested and original pieces, as many users have a problem after the purchase of the module to different inexpensively.

In my opinion, you can buy cheaper and test. If there is no problem you can return.

  • Satellite Pro A60 - Windows XP shows / use only a part of RAM available

    Hello guys!

I am facing strange problems with one of my two A60s. I just upgraded two of them with 1024 MB of RAM the same. One works perfectly, but the other will show me only 410 MBs in Windows. The BIOS indicates the correct size. I changed the RAM from one to the other, but this strange error is always present. The version of the BIOS has been updated to 1.90 and has Windows XP SP2.

Do you have any suggestions or ideas? Is there an easy way to put the management of RAM in Windows?

    Thank you in advance!

    Ralf

    It s very strange.
I found that an additional Satellite Pro A60 info has been delivered with a different hardware configuration.
Some A60 Pro comes with an internal memory of 512 MB and others with only 256 MB internal memory.
In addition, the internal memory modules cannot be deleted and there is only one slot for memory upgrade.

But I put t know why the OS shows only 410 MB

Oh, I forgot to mention that the graphics card, also use the part of the main memory and, therefore, the operating system of shared memory could indicates a value of different memory.

  • Satellite Pro A60-221 - how to reflash the BIOS?

    Hello

I was installing a new fresh OS on a Satellite Pro A60-221(PSA65E-02E03TFR), I wanted to take it seriously, so I tried to update the BIOS. I used the program given by Toshiba in a zip file: bios - 20070808110029.zip, the program is called: Osaka20V190.exe.
I run it, in the end, the computer turned off, so I reboot it. Since then the computer do 4 beeps, 1 long 1 short 1 long anda the last short I think that the shutdown of the computer itself.

So I think that I should have made a huge mistake (perhaps because that I run Osaka20V190.exe directly in the zipfile whithout put on the desktop for example, stupid, stupid, stupid...), and my question is:
Is it possible to Flash the bios to the default without having to start the computer? As in a motherboard, you can put a jumper between the two pins?

If the answer is already in this forum, I'm really sorry to bother you, I searched in the pro A60 series but could not find.

    Best regards.

    Hi hyeud,

    > maybe because that I run Osaka20V190.exe directly in the file zip whithout to put it on the desktop for example
Yes, generally all the files of zip archive must be extracted first before starting the update, but now it s too late

Such a reflash BIOS what you hear can only be initiated because on the Toshiba authorised service provider Web site, you can download a Windows based BIOS update.

To contact the closest service provider authorized in your country. Guys can you help you get rid of this problem. :)

  • ATI error and no windows - Satellite Pro A60

    Hello

When I start my computer, I get a blue error screen c0000415
A quick google reveals that this is one of these: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832324

"So what are you bothering? I hear you cry - the problem I have is, in getting this error of the other (also the ATI card based) I stuck my red disc in and erased everything - including the windows... and CFLA error occurs before windows installs and SafeMode (-that worked perfectly before) does not work because windows is not installed!

    Oh the fun.

"I think it's a hardware error" - Yes so don't I... However, before the reinstall and get it back, I could work to the computer in safe mode and videos played very well with the resolution and full color. Am I missing the point if I think a video work is an indicator of a working video card?

I admit that I'm perplexed indeed. I'll try to dig up an old Windows 98 drive, but I don't know how much this will help, because the only copy of XP I have is on the recovery disk... [Return to step 1]

Any suggestions much appreciated - thanks in advance...

    [it's a satellite pro A60 w / 256 +?] RAM, processor celeron 2.8 Ghz, ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 etc...]

    Hello

As suggested in document of Microsoft this problem can occur if an ATI Radeon 7200 graphics card has been installed on your computer and the driver that is supplied with this adapter may not work correctly with Windows XP.
The installation of SP2 should help.

This statement of Ms. says it all! It of not a hardware problem but it is a compatibility issue with Windows XP (without SP2) and the driver radeon ATI 7200.

You should try to get an original CD of Windows XP with or without SP2.
The software callednLiteallows you to create a Windows clean boot CD and add the patches MS and service packs for this CD.

Then, you can try to boot this CD and after installing the OS, you need to update or change the graphics driver!

    Hi Barry,.

I'd be inclined to return your laptop to an authorized Service Agent Toshiba. The OEM software should not require all the updated drivers at this early stage of his life, and the unit will be well within its warranty period.

The closer your repairman details can be found on the Toshiba site.

  • Satellite Pro A60: How to change the size of the AGP aperture?

    Hi people!

I recently bought a laptop Satellite Pro A60 series.

I also had an upgrade to 512 MB RAM module for it.

Since then a few games that I try to launch slow area. (it wasn't before) I have increased the Frame Buffer, but wish to increase the AGP Aperture Size as well, but there is no option for this in the BIOS?

Is there a fix that solves it?

    Hello

Well, you said that the games run a bit slowly after upgrade memory.
In this case, I guess that the graphics card is not really the problem.
As far as I know if memory modules are not similar system could runs unstable.
In addition, after the upgrade, you should try to install this new programs (games).

  • Satellite Pro A60 does not illuminate

When I try to boot my Toshiba Satellite Pro A60, seems to be powered. A few seconds later, there is a click and it cuts.

I tried to turn on the computer with just the power supply with the battery removed, just with no power supply and battery and power, but none of these options are making a difference.

I also tried to clean the fan in the aspirant from the outside by a suction pipe, but even once, it did not help.
Can help you with the Please this problem?
    Thank you.

    Hello

Turn the laptop over and unscrew the cover on the ram. Then remove the ram and try to turn it on again. If it lights, put the piston inside the laptop and try again. It does not turn on? Then your ram is dead. If yes then you can replace, or have your asp replace it. If this does not resolve the problem, there is a small plastic cover that runs along the keyboard just above the keyboard. Take this off and then unscrew the fixing screws to the bottom of the keyboard. Under the keyboard, you may have a second RAM slot. If Yes, try to remove the RAM stick and turn. It work? If this isn't the case, you probably have a problem with the motherboard. If it lights fine, then you have found the issue and can replace or continue using it without the extra RAM. Hope this helps and have a nice day.

    Hello

I studied a bit on the Toshiba site and found this interesting paper Toshiba on the error message Satellite A60 and blue screen on startup.
    http://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB5300X7000MR01.htm

  • Upgrade memory from 256 to 512 MB on Satellite Pro A60

Just want to confirm really what I got caught once before buying the bad memory. I read another thread, so am sure I'm ok with that.

OK, the RAM, I need for the upgrade of the Satellite A60 Pro is:
    200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC2700 Unbuffered CL2.5 (Non - ECC)

    Maplin:
    http://www.Maplin.co.UK/search.aspx?criteria=A31CG&doy=24m12
    A31CG DDR 2700 512M SODIMM

    Crutial
    http://www.crucial.com/UK/store/mpartspecs.asp?mtbpoid=04FE6CD8A5CA7304
512MB 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC2700 upgrade for the Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 Series notebook

I don't think that 1GIG RAM is needed for my daughter :-)

Note: On my main PC, I got defective Crutial Ballistix memory, but Crutial were very good replacing it for free.

Thank you and a Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all of you on this forum.

Ah, just another thing I'm not clear on.

The NEW RAM replaces the existing, in other words I have remove the 256 and replace it with the 512? Reading the user manual, it is not clear and talks about expansion module. Probably, it would be obvious if I opened it to the top, but I'd rather not at this stage.

    Thank you

  • Satellite Pro A60: hinges are broken - need new parts

I have a satellite Pro A60, unfortunately no longer under warranty. One of the screws which fix the hinges to the frame has sheared which means the hinge must be replaced.

When I removed the top cover (it covers a bunch of inches at the back of the laptop, I noticed the two hinges were cracked.) This allows the hinge of the left hand to oscillate (as the only thing now that the screen of the laptop is the only one to live.

Basically the two hinges need to be replaced because the only thing now the screen of the laptop (on the right side) is the clip on the cover! It works pretty well, but of course it will put additional pressure on the left side then, probably won't be too long prior to the screw on the left side shears off.

any kind soul here would know the numbers for the left and right hinges?

The model name is the model Satellite Pro A60EN PSA65E 00N00WEN number.
