Scan of old WinME HDD with Win7?

Hello. Someone I know has an old McKey N256 Model: 53073U6 HARD drive. He has/is working in a card mother Gigabyte GA - 7ZM.

I wanted to analyze the HARD disk for any malware because it was an old computer that had some top downloads. I think that the way to easiset to do that is detached from the former stop and connect it to the Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0. I looked on the product page and specifications, it does not have an IDE connector.

I also have a card ASUS M3N78-VM (mine). Can I plug the old drive in there and do a scan of some sort, then put it back?

But the old HDD is an IDE I think. It has a Ribbon that connects to the old mobo, no SATA. Can I install old HDD like that in the new Mobo ASUS? If not it's, what with another type of internal connector (s)?

Does anyone know if a scan of current Norton 360 in Win7 would detect any threat of an old machine of WinME? The malware is the same, or a program more recent must be installed for this task?

In reality, it is unrealistic to buy an IDE box for this one task, or to pay a lot of money for pictures, documents, video, etc. to be fired. The old case/parts work with WinME and DVD or CD - R can be engraved with the old files, then transferred to the Win7 computer. But a SCAN IS NEEDED to be sure.

If Exchange cannot be done, I think that a network can be configured with a laptop? There are two laptops with protection against malware with Vista Home Premium 64-bit and another one with Win7 that can do a scan (I guess) on WinME computer? The old WinME computer has only a 56K modem on it if. Laptops have a 56 k port, I don't know if a network can be created there? I don't know how to set up if necessary.

Can you get it someone please let me know what to do.

If you do not have a machine with an IDE connector and you don't want to buy an adapter USB to IDE, then I suggest you burn the files to CD on Win ME machine that tells you that you can do.
Copy them to a folder on the Win 7 machine and run your scans it there.  If you run executable files of ME of machine or open all documents there is no risk of infection.

There are other ways to transfer files, but your concern is excessive.

  • doesn't have a HDD with Win7 OEM, which has been improved to win 10 - No Media - how to install the new SSD?

    Hi members of the community.

One of my colleagues brought me his personal computer to the difficulty.  It's a phone of 2011 which has Win 7 pre installed on it (OEM with a recovery partition).  It has no support for the version of Win 7 and she never bothered with the creation of recovery media or to order the installation media, but since its purchase, it has upgraded to Win 8, then 8.1 and finally Win10.

Problem, it is the disk HARD watch of major equipment failures and every time you start more errors appear that problems are cascade.  There is a recovery on the HARD drive partition, but windows has trouble starting, I fear that this recovery partition is useless, because we don't want the windows reinstalled on this faulty drive.

Can any advise if there is a way to install a windows OS on windows versions, that it has improved or the original win7 OEM supplied with the laptop without the media and with a damaged HARD drive?

The hard drive that is damaged is a 750 GB drive at 5400 RPM samsung - she bought a new 980 GB SSD sata III.  I have already confirmed the laptop can use Sata III - I have a true picture and was curious to know if I can clone the recovery partition (if its still viable) can I do it on the SSD and then force the recovery on the SSD drive?  or that violate the license for OEM?

Any advice would be appreciated, because I'm used to using volume licenses and I am new to OEM preinstalled OS damaged.

    Hello:

Your BIOS is set to AHCI (or RAID) by default. It cannot be changed.  Look in your device manager and in the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section, look to see if there is a controller SATA ACHI he.

If so, you have an AHCI BIOS default.

If you go further down the line in Device Manager and see a section of storage controllers, click on that, you would see a SATA RAID controller and your BIOS is set to default RAID.

I don't have your model laptop so I don't know if HP has implemented some models double disk RAID or AHCI.

So... First, copy your original C:\ drive SWSetup folder and save that to a portable hard drive. That must contain all the files installation for the drivers and the software provided with your PC. You can search this folder for programs that you may want to reinstall after your new SSD drive HARD primary.

To install W7 on your SSD, check your own install of W7 disc.  Here's how:

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

  • How to upgrade the already encrypted files on the USB HDD with new XP Recovery certificate

I backed up the files encrypted in My Documents on a USB drive on which these files are also encrypted state. My computer crashed so I reinstalled the operating system. I wanted to send records encrypted USB HD to my computer or tried to copy projecteurDu and paste them into My Documents. I could not do this because I got "an error occurred in the application...". access privilegesDo i., access is denied. "I created a new recovery certificate and put in place a recovery agent. From there how I update the previously encrypted files on th USB HDD with the new recovery certificate? I'd appreciate a step by step procedure. Can I select the USB drive in the command line and run cipher/u on this drive or make the command/u of encryption on the computer without connecting to the USB HDD

Sorry to say that my bet is that you never gain access to these files again.

When you created the files encrypted, Windows creates a key for decryption to access these files and stored, encrypted in your certificate store.  When your system crashed, the decryption key has crashed with it.  Without this key, you will never have access to your encrypted files.  If you have recovered from a backup image-style, you should be able to access these files.  If you've recovered by installing Windows from the installation disc, then you have created a new and different installation with different Secure ID (SID) and a certificate store empty.  A recovery agent will only retrieve encrypted files that were created after that recovery agent was in place - as a new certificate.  What you really need to do, it's your old certificate to restore the backup that you created when you started using EFS.  The following article is mandatory for anyone using the EFS file system.  Special attention to the paragraph entitled "why you should back up your certificates.

"Best Practices for encrypting file system"

If you do not have a return to the top of your certificate, then things look dark.  There is a program called "AEFSDR' whose 'professional' version comes through what has not been overwritten on your hard drive in search of remains of certificates that could be delivered together to recover.

    Good luck

  • I try to upgrade my old vista laptop to win7, but don't remember the product key for my computer compaq laptop. How can I get this key?

    * Original title: get the product key

I try to upgrade my old vista laptop to win7, but don't remember the product key for my computer compaq laptop. How can I get this key?

    Hello

Your question is not very clear to understand.

If Vista is preinstalled on your laptop, this product key is NOT for Windows 7.

There is a free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 years, but that offer expired for a long time.

How does the Windows 7 upgrade Option?

The Windows 7 upgrade Option is available through participating PC manufacturers on some PC and Microsoft on any purchase of packaged product Windows Vista. The Windows 7 upgrade Option applies to Windows Vista Home Premium, Business and Ultimate editions. Your Windows 7 update will be the comparable version: so you will get either Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional (upgrade to Windows Vista Business) or Windows 7 Ultimate, respectively. The Option of upgrade Windows 7 program runs from June 26, 2009 through January 31, 2010. Some manufacturers may choose to shorten the time of upgrade Option.

Microsoft sells more than Windows 7, but it does NOT come for free.

    Try Amazon.com, etc.

And if you ask to transfer the license of Windows 7 from a mobile to another laptop:

You tell us what type of license you have.

If the laptop came with the preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), this product key supplied with the laptop is preinstalled OEM license and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) is related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when dies of this machine.

The above applies also to OEM system builders licenses.

License of operating system in detail, that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

  • Configuration Linksys WPSM54G on new laptop with Win7

Using a Linksys WPSM54G. Working on my old WinXP, bought a new laptop with Win7. Tried to set up as a TCPIP will still not connect. Have seen a lot of posts on this issue, but can't get it on my pc.

After reading the endless forums on this topic and try LPR printing as proposed (without success), I finally found a simple solution to get the WPSM54G print server work on Windows 7 (64 bit in my case version). Simply download the latest driver for the Lnksys site.  Once you have unzipped the download, right-click on Wizard.exe, select Properties, click the result, then check the compatibility mode box and select Windows Vista (Service Pack 2).  When you run the Configuration Wizard and click on Computer Configuration, instead of the boring message "OS not supported", the driver installation ends normally and you can start printing.

I have a new HP with Windows 7.  I'm scanning in legal size docs. with my printer/scan/fax.  The application of fax scan in windows 7 does not show an option to paper size for legal-size paper.  I could do this on my old XP computer.  Microsoft forgot add parameters of legal size in this application?

    Hello notnewbee,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

You do not give the model of your printer/scanner/fax machine so I can't direct you to the website of the manufacturer of specifc. However, I would
you go to the website of the manufacturer of your printer and download the latest drivers for Windows 7. Sometimes, if you use a driver that is not intended for your operating system, then your device can operate and install, but some features may not work.

If they do not have an updated driver, then try the compatibility mode for Windows XP and see if your printer will work correctly.
The information below will show you how you can make older programs run on Windows 7 here.

If please reply back and let us know if this helps solve your problem or if you still need help.

  • Fable the Lost Chapters for XP is not compatible with Win7 - is there a way to fix it?

I just bought the XP game edition and expects a lot of fun on my new 17 in. Inspiron R with all the trimmings, only to be told that the FtLC for XP is not compatible with Win7.

The problem is that the graphics are like seeing double, literally two principals semi-molten you close them; they never completely merge, and most things, except the bottom, are very blurry.  I already have bad eyesight; I want a clean game.

I have tried to adjust the game to play in the uncluttered window, but it remains only purified until the credits have finished the race.  Then, the game returns to the full screen, wide and I think it's the wide screen that is the cause of the problem; the credits are great!

At Ms. really bring out a game duded up before Fable 4 only to have it be unplayable on pc with the newest Windows operating system?  Or is it possible to work things so the game is playable in fact and you can use a bow without guessing where is the target?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

By chance, I reinstalled the game (that I hadn't played for a long time) on Windows 7 x 64 a few weeks ago. Guess what? It works without too much fiddling.

Maybe it's that you will get a screen that says "incompatibilities with this version of Windows" every time you start (just click it away), and most likely, you will encounter an inactive 'fable.exe' process that must be completed before starting the game a second time (happens only once per Windows session). The second start focus also slowed down as the first, but after a while, the game will go up.

Things to do during the installation: run 'setup' as an administrator (do not use the 'autorun' option) with the following compatibility setttings 'XP SP3', 'disable visual themes', "Disable desktop layout" (this avoids some flickering). Start the game with the same settings. If you are given a choice of setting up your video card (the game is not identify him because it uses a completely outdated XML list of video cards caves), select "primary, no LNP. Resolution of 1024 x 768 x 32 is fine.

Note that the game dimensionnera full screen, even if your screen size is larger than 1024 x 768, but it will keep the old 4:3 picture format, you will have black borders on both sides of the screen.

How to know what Board motherboard or the SATA controller module I have?  When the computer starts first the BIOS detects SAS 5 Host Bus HBAO (?)  I forgot the exact name of disks while he finds the SATA drives.

    Greetings Tenoc,

Thanks for posting your question on the community.

The integrated SAS controller that comes with the Precision 690 name: 1068 LSI PCI - X - SAS 3 Gb/s controller. He is old enough, at this stage, and I'm sure that it only supports MBR (limit UP to 2 TB).

You can try adding in a newer card, like the Perc H710. Not sure if it works or not. There are various other cards you might try there.
