Screen display - higher than normal desktop icons
Somehow my settings of the screen has changed. When I started, the desktop icons were larger than normal. Go to e-mail, Internet... each screen display was became wider. Circles now resembled ovals. I have to scroll to the right to see what is out there. How can I change the display of the screen so that I can see the entire screen without scrolling to the right?
Hello
There are a few things you can try:
Change the resolution of the screen;
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/change-screen-resolution
If that fixed it, go to the website of your computer manufacturer > drivers download Section > then key in your computer model number > find your operating system > find two graphics / video or from the Chipset drivers and download and install.
Then try to change the screen resolution.
Or do a system restore to before that happened.

Everything on my computer screen appear larger than normal
I unplugged my computer about 4 days ago to take a trip with me. When I restarted my computer all on my computer including my background, websites, icons, aim, etc. displayed more large and more distortion than normal. The zoom level is 100% normal. This has happened in the past, but once I restarted my computer, my screen is always returned to normal. I would like to know how to fix this because I restarted my computer about 3 or 4 times, but everything that appears on my screen is still distorted and higher than normal.
Hello Swils117,
Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.
If you haven't tried these steps, that give a try.
1 / right click on a free part of the Office
2 / in the drop down menu, click the view option
3 / according to the context menu, click one of the following options:
- Large icons
- Medium-sized icons
- Classic icons
The classic icons option will reduce the size the most. Please let me know if that solved your problem or if you are still having problems.

original title: Auto Adjust
Hello.
Whenever we start to use our computer, the screen goes black and the message 'Auto adjust is in Prgress'. Then, all of our screen is small and all the icons and pages are smaller than before.
I tried restoring the system that works and that gets our screen back to normal but every day that this Auto setting is coming and we can't seem to stop it.
Any help would be appreciated... Thank you
Try this:
Go to the Web site of the manufacturer of your laptop computer-graphics/computer card > drivers and downloads Section > key in your model number > look for the latest Vista drivers > download/install them.
Then:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-AU/Windows-Vista/change-screen-resolution
Change the screen resolution
Screen resolution refers to the clarity of the text and images on your screen. At higher resolutions, items appear sharper. They appear also smaller, so more items adapted to the screen. At lower resolutions, fewer items adapted to the screen, but they are larger and easier to see. At very low resolutions, however, images may have serrated edges.

I have to resize the icons, just the image in them... Thank you!!!
You can have the Web site icon, but it will be not bigger: it is stuck at 16 by 16 pixels. This is how the icons on Web pages are programmed. It's not for lack of Microsoft: it's just the reality of the world. If you forced the site of MSN icon to be large enough to match the size of the "large" view desktop icons, that's what it would look like:
Of course they don't want people to complain about the ugly tense icon, and since Microsoft cannot replace the icon for each Web page in the world, they simply leave it at the default size so it looks nice.Given their big stretch would become extremely blurred, Windows leaves these icons low resolution to their normal size, centered insizing a box.>> If you only want it to be as big as XP, you can always do: just to right click on the desktop, select display, then Classic icons... Classic is the size THAT used XP. Stretched above example is what it would be if you choose Medium or Large inside Windows Vista or 7, which is bigger than anything XP could ever show.If it was useful, you can vote by clicking on the green triangle. If it solves the problem, click on propose as answer. Thank you!

Desktop icons have all disappeared completely and cannot add new ones to the desktop display.
I use Windows Vista Business Service Pack 1 on a Toshiba individual 5 months old Pro.
Everything works well except all my desktop icons disappeared last week for example Recycle Bin, Internet Explorer, etc.
I have activated since the "Desktop >" section of the taskbar and can now access all the icons in a vertical list.
If I try to add a new icon to real desktop screen does not appear, but it does not produce a copy that can be chosen amongst the "Desktop >" list on the taskbar.
How can I display the icons on the new real desktop?Right-click on the desktop, click on the "View" menu
In the submenu at the bottom, there is an entry named "show desktop icons". -
my desktop icons are larger than normal, how can I make the smaller
Right click on the desktop and click on views and there should be three options for selecting the size of the icons. If they are too big, choose one of the smaller options and see if it suits you better.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!

Impossible to get desktop icons to stick to the main screen.
My main screen to the right of my secondary monitor. How can I stop my desktop icons to switch to the secondary display (left) after the reboot?
Hello
Windows stacks icons in columns on the left side of the office. But you're not stuck with that arrangement. You can move an icon by dragging it to a new location on the desktop.
To unlock the icons so that you can move them again:
a. right click on an area empty office.
b. click viewand then click auto arrange , clear the check box next to it.
