service packs not shown as part of windows update

Hi, I use windows vista Basic. When I check the windows update it shows so far, but there is no installed on my computer serivce Pack. Why is it so.

service packs should be not part of the windows update control

Thank you

Updates Windows does not display normally the Service Pack update until all other updates are installed - simply install all important updates, and then click Check for Updates, and repeat until you get the Servie Pack offered.

It was good except for its slow, when I open certain programs, now I can't access something.  Any ideas what I should do to correct the nightmare?
