  This product ID indicates you have part # SW063. I suspect that there is a typing error because this part number does not exist in my file. It seems that you have JW063 which is a SAS 6/IR.

  All you need to do is replace the drive. If it does not rebuild automatically, then set the HARD drive as a hot spare replacement.

  Set us up an ESXi 4 Host with 3 cards.  It is a stand-alone server that will not connect to the SAN FC network.  However, we respect the vStorage VM function if necessary.

  With only 3 cards on hand, there's any suggestion on the speed and the consolidation of NETWORK cards that we set up?  Our network administrator wants to give us only 1 x 1 Gbps Connection + 2 x 100 Mbit/s.

  Since you do not connect to FC SAN I guess you have local storage or storage over IP.

  In this case it is recommended to dedicated 1Gbit link for IP storage. If you can not have dedicated you will share Gbit link between the storage on IP and VMs.

  100 MBit NIC cand be used only:

  (1) dedicated storage VMotion or IP management interface

  (2) relief links networks of VM and management failover

  You definitely need at least 2 running on Gbit network cards

  I am currently working on a workflow for the provision of new hosts ESXi from scratch. Unfortunately, I glued on the new VMWare licensing to a host. I wanted to do this with a script element:

  Unfortunately, this returns an error indicating licenseManager is null.

  Anyone know how to set the new licenseManager on the host or license in another way?

  OK, I got it myself. Instead of approaching licenseManager thanks Host.configManager I used instead of the VC:SdkConnection variable.

• Interruption of the connection to the host ESXi 5.1

  I did some tests on one of our hosts in preparation for the essential moving to Essentials more when I noticed that most of the vmnic reported only 100 MB Full Duplex connection speeds.  We have a Dell R515 with 2 cards Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM 5709, all set to auto negotiate, so I thought I'd try and force one vmnic to communicate to 1000Mb Full Duplex.  This had quite disastrous consequences resulting in a lack of connectivity to the host.  VCentre host is reported as Disconncted and if I try to connect directly to the host I get a type error "unable to connect".

  Fortunately the virtual machine is still ongoing so I just need to get that host online.  SSH is turned off so I can't chew on the host, if I don't have physical access to it if necessary.

  The management network is running on vmnic8, which is embedded Broadcom BCM5716, while I just changed vmnic6 on one of the Broadcom BCM5709 map, then why I lose o management network connection, I'm a little confused, any help appreciated.

  Just follow the steps described in the section "setting the speed and duplex of the NIC in ESX/ESXi host at the service console. In step 1, you will find links to find out how to enable Shell access. Basically you log in to the DCUI to allow Shell access in the "Troubleshooting Options" menu and press ALT - F1 to switch to the console. After the connection, use esxcli nic network list for an overview of installed vmnic network nic esxcli get vmnic8-n to display the settings vmnic8 and esxcli network nic address-n vmnic8-a to set the speed and duplex automatic.   Hello

  I have a Dell R510 I want to use as a VM host and so recorded for the free ESXi hypervisor and received a license key. However, this key is for v6 which is not supported on the R510.

  I downloaded a custom Dell ESXi 5.5 image and so would like to know if I can use the v6 for v5.5 license key. If this is not the case, how can I get a v5 license key?

  It was not quite so simple I had to connect to My VMware > go to all downloads > choose vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) > change to v5.5-v6 version > click on get a free trial. This time allows to register you and gives you the license key and download link.

  I installed a new 5.5 vcenter and always running a vcenter 4.1, running both at the same time, I have migrated a crowd of 4.1 through to my platform of 5.5 and want to update the host to 5.5 (I have a license), my question is, will this affect my other storage on the san, other hosts on 4.1 run here , and I do not wish to upgrade this one 5.5 if it will affect the other storage on the old vcenter (things always work) he seem quite simple to do, but not sure about that something and can not afford to make the mistake with the old esx environment...

  You can upgrade the host ESXi 4.1 managed by vCenter 5.5 without problems. For more safety, unplug the host HBA when you perform the upgrade if you use CF. If I understand correctly, both the upgrade to 5.5 ESXi and ESXi 4.1 hosts existing use same data warehouses. The only drawback I see is after the upgrade to 5.5 ESXi host, do not improve data warehouses of VMFS3 to VMFS5 so as not to affect the environment 4.1 existing.

  We have a simple DMZ where I set up a host running ESXi 5.1. I have another windows server in the DMZ subnet and I can load the new ESXi her host's web site. From my PC in our LAN I can not pull the top web interface 5.1 ESXi or connect via vSphere Client. If I enable SSH on the new host, can I use Putty to connect to the new host ESXi from my PC in LAN. I watched the event logs in our firewall and nothing seems to be blocked. I guess that the problem is related to a value or a firewall setting in ESXi 5.1 but I don't know.   Just a thought. Why don't run you the ESXi host in your internal network management and only virtual machines in the DMZ? Would make the ESXi host management even more secure, and you wouldn't have to open Firewall ports.

  What is the size of your virtual machine, what is the speed of the network and how your local storage looks like? Using RAID? How many disks and RAID level? You have a battery attached to the RAID controller write buffer cache?

  The waiting period does not necessarily mean the tasks does not work. Often it is only a delay in the vCenter Server GUI, but the process is still running and you just need to be patient. You see the files being created on the target data store?
