SFC.exe Unable to fix the jscript9.dll

Windows 8 x 64 professional

Don't know what caused this problem, but I guess that jscript9.dll is corrupted. Internet Explorer and Skype (Win8 and office) wouldn't start, so I ran SFC. The CBS.log newspaper mentioned that jscript9.dll could be repaired. The event viewer does not seem to mention anything about well jscript9.dll.

What I might suggest at this stage is to uninstall KB2761465 and see if the problem resolves.

Thereafter, you could reinstall KB2761465.

    Hello WK123,

In addition to the response of Bindu, you can check with the provider of software for the Penpower Jr program to verify that the program is compatible with Windows Vista. If so, you can check that the Pen Power program is uninstalled from Control Panel > programs > programs and features and then try to reinstall the program to check if the problem persists. Alternatively, you can try to install the program by using a different user account.

Regarding the additional error, please relay if any additional programs have been installed recently. You can also run a scan of Antivirus\malware by using Antivirus software.

If you have not had luck in iTunes (https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_for_windows?view=discussions#/?tagSet=1234) forum, uninstall and reinstall iTunes as described below:

To perform a "clean" iTunes installation uses this technique proposed, from Support of Apple HT1926 article.  (If you are using Vista, see THIS instead).

Go to control panel > Add/Remove programs
Remove these applications in the following order (do not restart your computer if you are prompted during this process):

    1 iTunes
    2. Apple Software Update
    3. Apple Mobile Device Support
    4 Hello
5 Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

    6. iPod for Windows (this may or may not exist, be it, it is not necessary, then we can remove it)

    7. iPod Updater

    8 QuickTime

Open my computer > C: > Program Files
    Delete these files (if present)
    1 iPod
    2 iTunes
    3 QuickTime

Follow these steps if the message "cannot delete iPodService.exe: it is used by another person or program" appears when you try to delete the folder of the iPod.

    1. Make sure that you have iTunes and iPod Update utility are not open.
    2. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete.
    3. Select Start Task Manager.
    4. Click the processes tab.
    5. Locate the iPodService.exe in the list.
    6. IPodService.exe-click and choose end process.
    7. Quit Task Manager.

    Empty your temp directory:
Open my computer > C: > Documents & Settings > username > Local Settings and delete the contents of the folder called "Temp".

If you don't see the local settings, enable hidden files:
Tools > Folder Options > view tab
Select Show Hidden Files & folder, and then click OK

Once this file is empty, restart the computer

NOTE: If you have trouble uninstalling applications, or if you have a problem, reinstall iTunes because the installer complains that it can not uninstall the current version of iTunes, see the 'Installation issues' section below.

Download & reinstall iTunes from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

    Installation problems

There are several tools to deal with problems installing or uninstalling applications.  If you have these problems, the following should help.  Before using one of these tools (including #3), you must create a restore point from the system first (or back up the registry with C:\WINDOWS\ERUNT).  See http://windowsxp.mvps.org/registry.htm a complete disk image would be safer if you have this ability.

1 Microsoft has a program install and the resolution of the problems of the uninstalling which is supposed to "work better" and be "safer" to use the old Install Cleanup Utility (3 below).

    2. free Revo Uninstaller.  You can also download a trial version of uninstaller Revo's ' Pro', which has a few more aggressive cleaning options, but this should not be necessary.

3 Microsoft Windows Install Cleanup Utility.  Although this tool has been the preferred tool to deal with the problems of Windows Installer, Microsoft removed from Microsoft download servers because it seems sometimes deleted more than he was supposed to (I believe this was linked to Office uninstall).  You can still get Windows Installer Cleanup here--> http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html utility

  • MSConfig.exe - Unable to locate component... This application has failed to start because MFC42u.dll not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

    I use XP.

When I try to solve the problem by running sfs/scannow I get the message:

"Files required for windows runs correctly must be copied into the DLL cache... Insert you windows XP Professional service pack 3 cd now.

My machine came with XP was preinstalled on the D: drive.  I did the HP recovery disk when I got the machine, but these discs do not work for this and I can't seem to redirect the scan to look for on the disk "D" assuming that it is the right thing to do.

I ran windows one care and he says I have 150 errors, that it cannot correct.  Until these problems started, it never reported more than one error could not resolve.

David Y has the correct syntax to decompress the file.  You have already the program 'develop' on your system.

The files that you see in i386 with underscore as the last character are compressed files (to save space). This type of compression is not the same when you say XP to compress a file.

Sometimes it is useful to understand that you can unzip these files there is you need if you come across one that is missing or suspect some time later.   Browse this folder and you will see a large number of files compressed, where the last character is an underscore character.

Remember - sfc/scannow will not replace the missing files and it won't replace not a file may have been overwritten by another program, but you can always develop a new copy if you need to.

Just make sure to type the commands to make it work.

I have my XP Service Pack 3 copied my E drive installation CD in a folder called E:\xp_source, and when I expanded my mfc42u.dl_ file I got a result like this:

    C:\>expand e:\xp_source\i386\mfc42u.dl_ c:\windows\system32\mfc42u.dll

Microsoft (R) file expansion utility Version 5.1.2600.0

Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1990-1999.  All rights reserved.

    Expansion of e:\xp_source\i386\mfc42u.dl_ to c:\windows\system32\mfc42u.dll .

    e:\xp_source\i386\mfc42u.dl_: bytes 378327 extended to 981760 bytes, 159% increase.

The new expanded file will not have the time now to this topic, so don't expect to see that - just check that the missing file is present.

There should be some unnatural effort to actually remove one of 3498 XP as your protected files.  If you rename or delete just one of these files, Windows File Protection will be quickly and quietly replace it unless the Windows File Protection is also broken, so you can figure out how your file became missing in the first place.

If manually, you delete or rename a file monitored system, you will see an event like this in the Event Viewer system log when the Windows File Protection replaces:

    Event type: Information
    Event source: Windows File Protection
    Event category: no
    Event ID: 64002
    Description:
File replacement was attempted on the protected system file c:\windows\system32\mfc42u.dll. This file was restored to the original version to maintain system stability. The file version of the system file is 4.1.0.6151.

I would suspect some quarantied app antivirus or anti-malware (actually deleted) your file for you and that would be a problem.

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..

What you use, you can follow up with these:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/

    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

The scans by operating clean, then to solve any problems.

Do, or do not. There is no test.

  • Lsass.exe - Unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because the oleaut32.dll file not found

    Original title: oleaut32.dll xp

My system XP pro/sp3 does not start normally, without danger or with the original sys disk. I get a message
Isass.exe - Unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because the oleaut32.dll file not found. reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
However, I can't in the operating system to do a re-install.
    Any suggestions?

If c:\windows\system32\oleaut32.dll is missing, you will see messages like this:

Lsass.exe - Unable to locate component
This application has failed to start because the OLEAUT32.dll file not found.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

If the missing file is the only problem, you might have to do a reinstall to fix.

There should be a copy of Oleaut32.dll in the c:\windows\system32\dllcache folder, so if you can get in the XP Recovery Console, you can just replace it - then you are going to have to start on something to do.

Once started in the XP Recovery Console, you must enter this command at the prompt:

    Copy c:\windows\system32\dllcache\oleaut32.dll c:\windows\system32

If the file is not in the dllcache folder (it should really be), depending on your installation, this command can work:

    Copy c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\oleaut32.dll c:\windows\system32

Answered in the affirmative if invited to replace any existing file.

I don't know what the Microsoft Support Engineer think that KB307545 or KB922371 will help you.  I think that the MSE is just throw a few things to try and some links.  You don't describe symptoms consistent with the need to use one of these methods.   I would say the MSE has never seen this problem before, made no attempt to reproduce the problem, and has no idea how to fix this.

If your CD does not start in the Recovery Console, or if you don't know what kind of CD do you have to do a CD of XP Recovery Console and boot on it (no media XP required).

    Here's how:

Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that might have come with the acquisition of the system store.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

When you install ImgBurn, DO NOT install the Ask toolbar.

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

After replacing the file, remove the CD and type 'exit' to leave the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

As described in the question, I would say that you re - ask your question in the MSDN Visual Studio forum rather than on this forum. MSDN is watched by other professionals in computing and to developers who use Visual Studio, which would more than likely be able to help.

Hope this information is useful. Please, do not hesitate to post in case you have any other question related to Windows in the future, we will be happy to help you.
