• How to use Illustrator SDK of FrameMaker plugin?

  I am absolutely new to Illustrator SDK (downloaded 2 days back), even though I have some experience in FrameMaker 12 SDK. My problem is as follows:

  I have a FrameMaker document, where have been incorporated to the Illustrator (.eps) files. I need to develop an application that will find some texts in the document and replace them with others. I know the source text and their replacements. The text to replace can be in the FrameMaker document, as well as in any embedded Illustrator document.

  So far, I have developed a plug-in, FrameMaker, which may be invoked by a menu of the FrameMaker option. If the user opens FrameMaker, loads the document, then calls this plug-in, it will properly replace strings in the FrameMaker document. Now I'm stuck with replacing the strings in the embedded Illustrator documents. I can find the name of the Illustrator files that are integrated and should be treated. But I am confused how to use Illustrator to my FrameMaker plug-in SDK for find and replace these strings? Any idea?

  I read the software Illustrator SDK documentation in the last two days and it seems that I have to use is Adobe Text Engine classes (I could be wrong but) who can manipulate the text in an Illustrator file. Is this correct or is there a more easy/better way? Even if I try this approach, how should I proceed? Should I try to develop a plug-in in Illustrator using classes ATE? If so, how do I invoke that FrameMaker? I should start by Illustrator program, load the document illustrator in it and then some how (how?), call the plug-in which will replace the text, save the file and close the Illustrator? All this has a sense or I'm hiking? Is there a simpler way? It doesn't have to be a manual intervention after the user call my FrameMaker plug-in and everything must be done automatically from there.

  Another little thing. Try to compile and run the example of Illustrator SnippetRunner ATE, I'm stuck as it used Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) and I have Visual Studio Express Edition 2012, which does not support MFC. I hope that we can develop plug-in in Illustrator without the help of MFC. Can someone please confirm?

  You cannot use the Illustrator SDK of your plugin for FrameMaker. The SDK only works in a plugin Illustrator loaded by a current version of Illustrator. All of your users will have installed Illustrator? If all embedded files are all eps, then you could probably treat the files yourself.

  You don't need MFC to create a plugin to HAVE. I think that the only "MFC" in the samples is "afxres.h" #include in the resource (.rc) files. If you replace this with #include "windows.h" it will probably work.

  I am looking to buy a new Mac Pro. I was wondering if I should choose the Dual AMD over-pants D700 with 6 GB memory GDDR5 or the Dual AMD over-pants D500 with 3 GB memory GDDR5. The Mac will run for the most part, Illustrator and InDesign and used to create a POS, signage and vehicle graphics. I do not create or edit video files or 3D. I guess that to put it more simply, Illustrator and inDesign will benefit from the additional resources available on the D700 over-pants?

  If you're just doing 2D work, no, not by any means. up to a high level of complexity, you can get away with a lot less.

  What is the resolution of your pixelation effect? Even if Illustrator creates vectors, raster effect are not vectors. You have either to effect settings low raster in InDesign, or you put the image scaling in InDesign or you used an EPS (which should not be used with InDesign) instead of a file HAVE or PDF/X-4.

  When you work with Illustrator, don't use PNG for InDesign, use HAVE or PDF/X-4. How comes your PNG into the game?

• Wrong place folio made in Illustrator in InDesign

  Hey everybody,

  It is my first time using this forum, so... here goes... something.

  Recently, I designed a folio in Illustrator that I need to put about 45 pages in Indesign for a magazine. Ideally I would have designed this folio at the very beginning of my magazine manufacturing process so that I could just put in a model and never have to worry about this again... but I didn't, until now, I have to hand-place the folio using the contact information in each document unique line so that it properly on all pages.

  
  I designed the folio on a 17 "x 1" work plan, with the centres on both sides of the folio placed exactly on what would be the centers of two pages face to face (4.25 "and 12.75"). However, when I place the illustrator document in InDesign and you try centering the folio at the bottom of the page, folios end up being much closer to each other than they were in Illustrator (for example, I can Center on the left side of the folio to 4.25 "", but then the center of the right side of the paper folio will end at approximately 12.13 ").

  I do something wrong in Illustrator or InDesign or in both programs, and if I am, what should I do to fix this?

  This sounds like a question of InDesign.

  First of all it seems you have trouble of positioning of the folio as you want and as you created in Illustrator. When you place in InDesign turn on show Import Options and media cultures. The folio will come with the comprehensive work plan, then you can place as you can hear,

  Second, if you are working on a document of several pages make the folio on a master page. If you work with multiple files small or single page, you still have work to do. Place the folio once, then copy. In the other files, go to Edition > paste in Place to stick to the same place. Make lather, rinse, repeat.

  Hello, I am a highschooler and I'm just starting to get into graphic design. I always have a lot of art drawing and another, but I'm just starting on the graphics. So far, I only used a few freeware online as SumoPaint and Aviary program if you are familiar with those. I have a bamboo tablet that I'm starting to use, but I need some advice. I'm a bit confused as to what software I should get in a first time. I always thought that Illustrator is like the must have program, but I now hear about InDesign and I'm a bit confused now. I want a program that I can use for the logo design as well as to have brushes sensitive realistic pressure start getting into some portrait drawing. I don't know if it's a bit on the wall or not, but that's what I do with my drawing now, so I would like to try it on a computer.

  InDesign = page layout. Place different elements on a page and organize them.

  Photoshop = edit photos or 'paint' similar to canvas and traditional brushes. Pixel-based editing

  Illustrator is Draw - similar to a pen and ink on paper - object-based editing.

  These are generalizations , but the main applications. A little blurry lines in many areas. You can make layout in Photoshop and Illustrator. Whether or not you should depends on the project. You can draw in Indesign. Whether or not you should depends on the drawing. And so on...

  When I get a project I immediately know the tool that I want to use. A logo - always done in Illustrator. A booklet or manual - always done in Indesign. A web banner animated - for the most part made with Photoshop. I'll mix and use other applications according to your needs, but the bulk of the work is done in what I feel it's the appropriate application.

  Foot solid in Illustrator will almost always benefit you to proceed. Many professionals do not know or understand of Illustrator. If you have a good handle on that, you will be in front of many are already working in the industry. Which is posted, Illustrator is far as intuative as Photoshop for most users (this is why many do not like or understand.) It is sometimes easier to start learning Photoshop, and then slowly move to Illustrator. Things like the pen tool are quite similar on all Adobe applications. So if get used you to the tool pen in Photoshop, you will have a beginning of a grip on what makes pen tool in Illustrator. Although the Pen is much more powerful in Illustrator.

  If option start with Photoshop, Elements would be an inexpensive start. Much can be done with Photoshop Elements, but there are some limitations when comparied to Photoshop itself. I can't detail because, well, I don't have ued elements in many versions. But the general procese is the same whether elements or full blown Photoshop.
