"Show devices on" emptiness of streaming media

I don't have much experience with the implementation of streaming media, but I am familiar with the configuration of the network.  I have a home network with a desktop PC, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.  In Windows Media Player 12, when I select STREAM-TURN ON MEDIA STREAMING with or without active homegroup, I don't get any list of networks in the menu drop down under "show devices on.  This list would normally have something like a LAN in it, but it is empty.

I use a router Linksys Wireless and cable internet.  The computer is connected via an RJ-45 ethernet cable to the router.  I also have a laptop, a smartphone wireless, a Xbox 360 console and blu - ray compatible Sony DLNA player.  All are able to connect to the network without problem.

What happens here?  I'm completely lost at this stage? Y at - it corruption in my window or is there a particular service under administrator tools-services, which is / are disabled?

  • Cannot depend on streaming media

This issue is very frustrating. I expect contact Microsoft himself by e-mail on this topic however their site seems to think that my bloody product ID has 'expired '. I really hope that you can provide the answers.

The fundamental issue is that I want to turn on Media Streaming (in Windows Media Player), but I can't. The reason is that the drop-down list box for "show devices on:" (networking and sharing/Media Center Streaming Options) is completely empty, so I can't select anything physically. To see what I want to say, click here to see a screenshot of the problem.

How the hell can I actually get around this problem and turn it on? Seriously, I want to turn it on so I can use it for streaming on my Xbox 360 when I'm playing.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! (By the way, if it makes any difference, I am on Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium edition)

  • Cannot enable the streaming media to other devices on my network?

When I try to install Media Streaming on Win 7 Home Premium 64 - bit, using Control Panel/Network Sharing Center/Media Streaming Options, I find the following strange problem.  The "show devices on:" drop-down list has no content and does not allow me to select anything.  On my Win 7 wife's computer, this dropdown allows of me selcet is "all networks" or "local networks".  I discovered this error when I bought an XBox 360 and setup of Windows media Center on it.  Windows Media center on the XBox can connect to my PC and play all the music in my library of music through Media Center, but the XBox can't find my pc on the network using the music library or picture library.  My PC does not list the XBox when I "see the network computers or devices", but nor does my wife's PC.

I am confused as to how my XBox has been so easily connected to my PC and continues to work perfectly in the application of the XBox, Windows Media Center, and still fails to find my PC or browse its contents through its other music/photo/media applications.

I have no problem connecting to XBox Live or on the internet.

    Any ideas?

    Hello

    1. would either not detected other devices in Windows Media Player?

    (c) the Properties dialog box for your device is displayed. Tab sync, box start sync when device connects checkbox.

    (d) restart the media player.

The next time that you want sync, connect the device to your computer and click on the Synchronize tab, then click Start Sync.

    Method 2:

    (b) read how the player will sync your device, which is directly under where you type the name of the device. If storage of the device is more than 4 gigabytes, for example, and your library on Windows Media Player fits on this device, the player chooses automatic.

    (c) selection of automatic syncing means that your device will reflect all your Windows Media Player library and it will do so that whenever it is connected. Click on "Finish".

    (d) in order to synchronize only the part of your library, where the player has chosen automatic, you can choose what will sync when you open Windows Media Player. Click on the portable device in the right pane and drag the items you want to synchronize with this device.

    (e) selection of a manual synchronization indicates that the player has detected that the portable device has no place for your entire library. Click on "Finish". Hi yagsirepusrj,

Please use the Microsoft Windows Forum.

Please check if you can turn it on in a clean boot environment:

    Clean boot

    =================

    1) click on the type of button start "msconfig" (without the quotes) in the search box and press ENTER.

Note: If you are prompted, please click on continue in the window User Account Control (UAC).

    2) click on the 'Services' tab, check "Hide all Microsoft Services" and click on 'Disable All' (if it's not gray).

    3) click on the 'Startup' tab, click 'Disable All' and click on 'OK '.

Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration utility" window appears, please check the "don't show this message or launch the System Configuration utility when Windows starts" box, then click OK.

NOTE: we can return to a normal startup by running msconfig again and checking on Normal startup on the general tab.

In the clean boot environment, applications and third-party services are disabled, please check if you can turn on media streaming at this time.

Windows Home Premium SP1, completely up to date.  Windows Firewall is enabled.

When I stop the Windows Firewall service, I can activate the sharing I want.  Of course the windows firewall prevents sharing I would do on my network.

I'm uncomfortable with Miss having a firewall work on my computer.  How to configure my Win 7 machine windows firewall to allow communications with my homegroup?  I tried to restore the default values.  This did not allow the communication.  I tried to find the homegroup settings in the advanced settings of the windows firewall.  No luck there.

What should I do to configure my windows firewall to allow network discovery and file sharing of printers and media streaming and sharing?

    Hi stephanie,.

Thanks for joining us out on Microsoft Community Forums.

Looks like the Windows firewall prevents the discovery network, files and printers, sharing, public sharing of files and streaming media. We will analyze and identify the cause of the problem.

You have a third-party antivirus installed on the computer program?

    Method 1:

    To turn on network discovery

    1. Open advanced sharing settings by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel. In the search box, type network, click Network and sharing Center, and then, in the left pane, click on change settings for sharing advanced.
    2. click on the chevron to expand the current network profile.
    3. click turn on network discovery and then click on save changes. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide
    confirmation.

The article below explains all about the network discovery:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/enable-or-disable-network-discovery

If any of these responses not solve the issue, let us then run the sfc scan and check if any file system is corrupt. I also recommend to perform a clean boot in order to find the root cause of the problem.

    Method 2:

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.

    b. type the following command and press ENTER:
    sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command. analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.
