original title: window repair virus won't let me not even run in safe mode system restore.  What should I do now?

Research on the web.  Not far from the computer.  Computer is speaking.  Windows repair itself downloaded to my computer XP Prof  Apparently erased all programs, all about office except explore and recycle bin.  Computer restarted in safe mode to do a system restore to an earlier date to wipe clear out of the memory of the computer.  Has started the system restore, you click on a date, click, hourglass and then nothing.  No message, nothing.  Click Next again and still nothing.  Download Security Essentials.  Took several attempts so that it can be updated.  Computer turns off.  EU Security Essentials uninstall and reinstall.  Finally updated.  I hope this works!

Hi, John. I had to deal with this virus of the Windows repair. I have had pretty good luck (fingers crossed anyway) by using the removal guide posted on bleepingcomputer.com.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-Windows-repair

They have a program called rkill download that stops all the running processes. Allows you to prevent the virus from Windows repair. It will give you a file log and show you things that stop you. Write those down.

I had the same problem you had with not be able to update Malwarebytes. I would like to run rkill, run Malwarebytes, and then reboot and repair Windows would jump to the top. On the third try, I didn't restart after running rkill and Malwarebytes. Instead, I searched for the files that rkill to stop (and I wrote down) and remove them manually from the C drive. Also, I have downloaded and run CCleaner which has removed registry now dead keys associated with the repair of Windows virus in the registry.

    CCleaner: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Then I rebooted. That seemed to do the trick: I was able to update Malwarebytes again. I ran the program display offers the site computer network, and which unhid all files that was hiding the Windows repair virus.

Again seems to work... thought it might be of help to you as well! Good luck!

  • Cancellation xp repair virus damage

I had windows XP repair of viruses that has since been removed, but the damage he did is always there. I used to be able to change the background, when I try to use the Control Panel, display, I get a box greyed, but I can change the color and used to have a lot more programs in all programs, most of the files in there say empty.  I also believe that the virus is also messed with my ablitites to play games. When I try to play games they will work normally for a while and then my moniter will act as if I turned off the machine. I used to be able to play the games that I now of problems with.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials. I think that because of several users, some of the programs were placed under different accounts.

The moniter, a Samsung SyncMaster 730b, behaves as if the computer is off, and played somewhat audio gets in a loop on my speakers.

You're only offering minimal information. However, my suggestion is to follow the instrcutions below. We will, first of all make sure that you are not yet infected by the malware. You can start restore windows files/component does not work.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode with network. Click HERE . Download the zip file. Extract the contents of the folder on your desktop. Right-click on each file one at a time and choose merge. This should restore your executables and lnk file associations.

Then click HERE. Download Malwarebytes. Update Malwarebytes and perform a full scan.  Choose to quarantine found nothing. Once completed click HERE and download Superantispyware Portable. Run a full scan quarantined found anything yet. Restart your computer in normal mode and perform a quick scan with Malwarebytes.

  • (Repair) virus killed file system; What is the best way to rebuild the system?

System of Vista Business 32 bit SP2 from my child was hit in the wrong by a virus; When you run the repair virsu he deleted system files infected and he now gets repeat BSOD.

No, the Startup Repair is not going to fix the system, and the virus seems to have killed all the restore points. also can not get SFC / SCANNOW to run correctly.

So: I went to (a huge field of) struggling to set up a Slipstream installation DVD of Vista SP2 (since the original installation disc supplied with the system was only vanilla Vista).  I thought that I could load that and select the 'Upgrade' option and simply rebuild the Windows system, keeping all my programs and data.

But no, after loading, the system informed me that "upgrade has been disabled", as well as the comment for clarification: "-to update, launch the windows installation"-that sure I can "t do since I can't display the corrupt system virus even in safe mode.

    SO - I have a few questions:

    (1) FIRST: was first my hypothesis?  In other words, if I COULD bring up Windows on the machine damaged (even if only in safe mode), would be the upgrade, go ahead and work - whereas the old system corrupted virus was also VISTA SP2?  Or - the installation would inform me that he could NOT make an upgrade because it would detect that the previous version was indeed also VISTA SP2 and therefore "knowledge" that he could not (really) do an upgrade?

    (2) assuming that the answer to #1 is 'yes', then: is there a version of Vista Installable (same one I might need to buy) that could make the upgrade, even if the Windows system being upgraded can not come?  IF this is NOT the case: what is an installable version upgrade of Windows 7?  or it is the sad reality that no matter what version of Windows I buy, I can't choose the 'Upgrade' option unless the installation is load/run Windows on the upgraded system?

From previous posts, I have all kinds of good advice on how to retrieve data on corrupted system files, so if there is no other alternative, I'll do it - but this is my last resort because:

b its a lot of your time working are going to extract all the files and

    (b) his work even more of your time then having to charge all third party software (including some I have no disks to install for more) if I find myself

having to do a clean install of Windows.

So, if there is no alternative to an upgrade - if I have to shell out some $$ for a new version of Windows, I prefer to do that.

    Appreciate all advice-

    Hello RDougShelton,

Take a look at the following article:

    Cleaning a compromised system
    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc700813.aspx

If there is a virus on that system, in other words, there is no way to be always sure that she has been completely removed outside of the shaping machine and put it back.

There is no guarantee that an inplace upgrade will fix this problem.

I recommend to backup your data you mentioned in your original post.

    Best regards

original title: need help for the restoration of the system

I got the SMART HDD virus. I thought that this one has been removed. I can access everything but my admin folder and my Windows Firewall. I tried a system restore but I get an unknown error 0 x 80070005.

4/11 is also the furthest I can go back when there was an update. Why can't come back all other - can only be hidden by the virus too?

    Hello

Disabled first happened to scan your system with MSE or another anti-virus program? You have scanned your system with Malware bytes? Before restoration, it is best to make sure that your system is clean. Some viruses will infect the system and also infected restore points, you did.
    Malware bytes: www.malwarebytes.org
If you are unable to run these is normal mode, then try safe mode by pressing the F8 key for the system to start.
    I hope this helps.

Original title: repair Windows scam - Can can't Access Control Panel or workstation

My system has been recently infected with "Windows" repair"virus. I managed to delete using Super Anti-Spyware, but all my desktop shortcuts are gone (hidden) so I downloaded "Unhide.exe" and get all my shortcuts. Most of them seems to be working as before, but there are a few, such as 'My Computer', ' Panel, "My Documents", or even "Windows Explorer", which I can't access.» When I try to open them, I get this popup box saying "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" how much he out me of my office of kicks.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

The best way to solve this maybe just create a new user account, transfer your personal data to this account, and then delete the old account. Make sure that you perform the system restore after you did the new account and everything works fine. To purge the system restore, simply disable it then again. Be aware that the creation of a new user account is not the means to get rid of malware. But it is perhaps the best way to get rid of some of the after effects. However, I recommend you scan with Malwarebytes before running these instructions. After scanning you may not create the new account.

In addition, Jose is correct. Good number of new forms of malware prevent the start in safe mode. Trying to force booting in SafeMode with msconfig, you end up with a boot loop.

    Hello

    • This error message do you receive when you use weird software?

    Try the steps mentioned below:

Method 1: uninstall the third-party firewall if installed on the computer, and then check if you can run the Firewall protection correctly.

Note: running more than one program firewall on your computer at the same time could cause conflicts. It is best to use a firewall, in addition to a routers firewall program.

Method 2: Check with another user account.

Note: If the computer has a single user, create a new user account.

    (a) create a new administrator user account: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/Create-a-user-account

    (b) connect again user account and check.

    c) once the problem is resolved, then copies the user profile data and settings to the new profile of the user, continue with the steps outlined in the article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows7/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

    It will be useful.

I was not able to complete the full implementation of the solution Dell Direct USB key due to various problems.  .    Dell ended up sending me a new Windows 7 HARD disk image.   I have now the laptop up and running again with Windows 7 and have various applications installed.   That's all pretty well.  But now how do I get my data files restored?   Basically, I want to connect the external drive to backup and complete step 19 of the solution, as described below.

Here are the steps OS using the Dell USB key:

    1. Boot from the Direct USB Key by tapping F12 at the Dell logo, then select the
USB Memory Key option from the boot device menu.

    2. Accept the Dell End User License Agreement (EULA) by clicking the box next to
Accept, scroll down till the end of the license agreement and then click on
    continue.

    3. On this screen, the usb key gives an overview of the process it is about to
perform, click continue when ready to proceed.

    4. The Smart Repair solution runs a surface scan on the system to identify any
errors with the boot record or the startup files. If any errors are found, they
    are automatically corrected.

    5. Once the process completes, there will be an analysis summary, in this case,
there is no issue found by the smart repair, click continue.

    6. In this window the user can select what data they would like to back up, they
can either go with the default backup solution or they can click select more to
select more files for backup, click continue after selecting files for backup.

    7. If user clicks on select more, they will get the screen below, they can go
ahead and select the necessary data for backup by checking the box next to the
respective folder, sub-directories are selected by default once the root folder
    is selected.

    8. The user will be prompted to attach a USB hard drive to the system, user
needs to connect the USB Hard drive at this point and click continue.

    9. Once the solution detects the USB hard drive , it goes ahead with file
    backup.

    10. Once the files are backed up, the solution will back up the user personal
    settings.

    11. The Direct USB Key displays a summary of the data and personal settings
    backup. Click continue.

    12. The Direct USB key then proceeds to install the operating system image on
    the system.

    13. Once the operating system image is transferred, the drivers are also
    transferred.

    14. After the operating system image and driver transfer, a summary page comes
up giving the user information as to what process was performed successfully and
what failed. The user needs to remove the USB key at this point and click
    restart.

    15. The system restarts and comes to a flash screen on recovery and restore.

    16. After the flash screen, the applications start installing.

    17. Once the applications are installed, the user would see a summary screen
informing them that the Operating system has been restored, connect the Direct
    USB Key and click restart.

    18. After the restart the user will be prompted to connect the data backup hard
    drive and then click continue.

    19. The files and personal settings are then restored from the USB backup drive.

    20. After the files are transferred the system comes to the desktop with a pop
up window informing the user to check the device manager for any exclamation
marks, the tool also guides the user to download the drivers from the support
site and the applications from My Dell Downloads and Dell Digital Delivery. User
needs to select the check box to prevent the message from being displayed again
    and click close.

  • inconvenience is virus HARD drive smart (hidden files/folders)

My 32 bit Windows Vista computer has pretty much recovered from smart HARD drive virus. Part of the recovery process completed a restoration of the system to a ponit before the virus. Only one annoyance (I know) which is: many files in the folders of my image and Document retain control under hidden. I change my folder look an option to show all hidden folders, but it would be nice to just delete this hidden control. Because I can still see them it's really just a gene and it's kind of a waste of time to go to each property of individual file to change it to delete the selection of hidden. Is there a quick fix that would do just that? or do I just have to live with the inconvenience and rejoice that most important points have been resolved.
