SNMP for stack Ports on Dell 6248? (xg1... 4)

I have 5 x 6248 stack in a ring... I can see the counters of Point of battery through the web INTERFACE.  I use munin to graphics system attributes, and it finds all the regular ethernet ports on each device, but not ports of the battery.

A snmpwalk example will show, for example:

IF - MIB:ifDescr.47 = STRING: unit: 1 location: Port 0: 47 Gigabit - level
IF - MIB:ifDescr.48 = STRING: unit: 1 location: Port 0: 48 Gigabit - level
IF - MIB:ifDescr.49 = STRING: unit: 1 location: Port 0: 49 10 G - level
IF - MIB:ifDescr.50 = STRING: unit: 1 location: Port 0: 50 10 G - level
IF - MIB:ifDescr.51 = STRING: unit: 1 location: Port 0: 51 10 G - level
IF - MIB:ifDescr.52 = STRING: unit: 1 location: Port 0: 52 10 G - level
IF - MIB:ifDescr.53 = STRING: unit: 2 Slot: Port 0: 1 Gigabit - level
IF - MIB:ifDescr.54 = STRING: unit: 2 Slot: Port 0: 2 Gigabit - level

These 10G are the optical ports at the front of the switch, but I can't find anything for my friends in the back of the switch.  I'd like to think the ifDescr soar "Slot: 1"... tips on how to find the correct OID?

Thank you

You can try the following traps:

agentInventoryStackPortTotalErrors.1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10895.5000.2.6132.1.1.13.7.2.1.10

agentInventoryStackPortErrorRate.1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10895.5000.2.6132.1.1.13.7.2.1.9

agentInventoryStackPortDataRate.1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10895.5000.2.6132.1.1.13.7.2.1.8

The categories look the same as the list of counters.

35xx switches can now use fiber for stacking ports?

    Someone at - it tested?

An excerpt from the user for the 3500 model switch Guide.

The front includes number of ports RJ-45 24 1-24. The top row of ports is marked with odd numbers 1-23, and the bottom row of ports is marked with the numbers 2 to 24. In addition, the façade also contains ports G3 - G4, which are copper ports and ports G1 - G2 which are fibers. G3 - G4 ports can be used as ports for stacking or used to transfer a standalone network traffic.

I can spend some time looking into this.  At the moment it does not look like that is possible. I will update the post with all possible information that I can find.

Hi, I use a Dell 6248 switch and I want to spend the vlan of a particular device, but I do not know on which port the device is connected. How can I find this information without having to physically go to the switch.

I don't know if it's serious or not, but the switch dell isn't the switch doing the routing.

  • Reference Dell 6248: hot swapping and upgrade battery links

I have a set of switches Dell 6248.  I have a few questions to explore:

    (1) can I add/remove the CX4 cables while the switch is working?  (I guess it's the same rules as a cable normal Ethernet...)

    (2) can I add/remove modules while the switch is working?

First scenario I'm looking at: extend the stack on a stacked rack.

I think the process here is, install a switch of spare with stacking module, run off battery cables to the battery, breaking and re-Assembly of the ring, then turn on the switch, confirm the ID stack and connectivity and migrate customers to it.  I can totally hot cables plug the CS4, right?

Next scenario I'm curious: upgrade of 12G to 48G stack.

Can I exchange the accumulated 12 GB card and swap the 48G card in when the switch is on, or do I have to turn it off?  Connectors on the 48G card the same?  (CX4..)  Can I / layout 48G and 12G cards in a pile during my upgrade?  Is the maximum length of cable the same (3 m) on a stack of 48G?

    Thank you!

    -danny

    Hey Danny,

The stackable modules are not hot-swappable. The cables are, but for the modules to detect that it must present when the switch is started. A reboot is also required for stacking on these ports using Ethernet. Yes 48 GB stackable modules also have a 3 meter cable.

  • Replace the battery. Reference Dell 6248

    Hello!

We have a set of three Dell Powerconnect 6248 switches.

One of the switches must be replaced with the new one (same model).

the well known "pwcnt_stacking_switches.pdf" document does not say how to replace a member of the battery,

just how to add additional, or to remove switch a.

It is said in the documentation for the 3524 powerconnect switches:

    Exchange of stacking of members
If a member of the stack with the same unit ID replaces an existing UnitID with the same ID of the unit, the
the previous device configuration is applied to the inserted stack Member

Even apply to 6248? This approach works?

How a stand-alone switch can be prepared to be added to the stack as some number of particular unit (excluding implementation stack-port mode battery)?

    is it

    Renumber (conf) #switch

    ?

Yes, guess I replace unit Number or number 2. (out of three)

Once I have remove the old unit 2 and insert a new one, the new switch will get UnitID = 4.

    After I using renumber

    switch 4 renumber 2

He will get all the previously attributed to the old switch 2 port configuration?

  • Newbie connection DELL 6248 pile to pile of CISCO 3750

    Hi all

I need to extend the desktop LAN by connecting a battery of CISCO 3750 existing a new pile of DELL 6248.

I intend to use the fiber/combo harbour in DELL 6248 to connect to the CISCO uplink port.

I want to use DELL port 48 but I saw there was 1/g48 and 1/xg48.  From memory, they are mutually exclusive.

Q1.  That means I'll just set up 1/g48 and do not enter the config of 1/xg48 of the sentence?

Q2.  To connect together the 2 batteries, devrais I defined just two ports to connect as a trunk port?  I have no experience in doing so.  FOR INFO.  We already use VLAN in piles CISCO and so the new DELL batteries must know about it.

Any help will be very appreciated!

Combo ports have a combined input and output of the PHY chip. Only the optical port or RJ-45 port can be used individually, but not at the same time. Any cable is connected will first use the port PHY. If the Ethernet port is used, you will configure with 1/g48, if fiber port is used then set up uses 1 / x 48.

Yes, you are right, a network connection is what you want between the two battery. Commands on the switch PowerConnect looks like this.

    Console > activate

    Console # config

Console (config) # interface ethernet 1/g48

    console switchport mode trunk #.

console # permit trunk switchport vlan add 2,3,4,5

On the PowerConnect 62xx switches, you must use general mode if you want to allow traffic from management on the switch on the PVID.  If you use the Trunk mode, you will not have the default VLAN on these ports.  The ports will only allow labeled traffic. So if the Trunk mode does not you, then switch to general mode.

As the pile of Cisco has already VLAN on it, we must ensure to the PowerConnect switch has those same VLAN. Here is an example of creating a VLAN on the PowerConnect switch.

    Console > activate

    Console # config

    Console (config) # vlan database

    VLAN console(config-VLAN) # 2

    output console(config-VLAN) #.

Console (config) # interface vlan 2

    Console # name Marketing

    Console # end

Another thing you may perform is place a static route to help the traffic at the back of the battery.

    IP route {network} {mask with joker} {Next Hop-IP}

    Console # config

    Console (config) # ip route 172.16.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.0.0.2

    Console (config) # end

    I hope this info helps,

    Thank you.

  • Best Practice Guide for stacked N3024 switches

Is there a guide to BP for the configuration of the 2 N3024s stacked for the connections to the server, or is the same eql iscsi configuration guide.

    I'm trying to:

    1) reduce to a single point of failure for rack.

    (2) make good use of LACP for 2 and 4 nic server connections

    (3) use a 5224 with it's 1 lacp-> n3024s for devices of unique connection point (ie: internet router)

    TIA

    Jim...

Barrett pointed out many of the common practices suggested for stacking. The best practice is to use a loop for stacking and distributing your LAG on multiple switches in the stack, are not specific to any brand or model of the switch. The steps described in the guides of the user or the white papers generally what is the recommended configuration.
    http://Dell.to/20sLnnc

Many of the best practices scenarios will change of network-to-network based around what is currently plugged into the switch, and the independent networks needs / requirements of business. This has created a scenario where the default settings on a switch are pre-programmed for what is optimal for a fresh switch. Then recommended are described in detail in white papers for specific and not centralized scenarios in a single document of best practices that attempts to cover all scenarios.

    Express.ypH N-series switches are:
    -RSTP is enabled by default.
-Green eee-mode is disabled by default.
    -Frother is enabled by default.
-Storm control is disabled by default.

Then these things can change based on the towed gear and needs/desires of the whole of society.

For example, Equallogic has several guides that recommendations of configuration detail to different switches.
    http://Dell.to/1ICQhFX

Then on the side server, you would like to look more like the OS/server role. For example a whitepaper VMware that has some network settings proposed when running VMware in an iSCSI environment.
    http://bit.LY/2ach2I7

I suggest making a list of the technology/hardware/software, which is used on the network. Then use this list to acquire white papers for specific areas. Then use these white papers best practices in order to ensure the switch configuration is optimal for the task required by the network.

  • Adding to connect 6224 replacement for stacking

    Hello

We just had a power connect 6224 replaced under warranty.

-J' removed the stacking of the faulty switch module and installed in the new switch.

-Power switch replacement and active stacking ports

    -Saved config, power off

-Attached to the other switch in the stack with stacking cables

    -Powering new switch

    -Master restarted

-Circuit breaker is backup and running normally, however the Member switch shows "code incompatibility?

I tried to turn off the Member, remove the Member from the stack, and then restore power (I can not reset the master only outside the hours). But I still get the same code shift.

    Any suggestions?

Looks like the firmware is not the same. Use the command > view version, to see what firmware the switches are on. The replacement switch must be on the same firmware as the pile. If they do not match, now may be a good time to get them all to date.

  • Reference Dell 6248 as default gateway - next hop router

    Hi all

I guess it's a matter of very basic network design. Good practice / can I use Dell 6248 layer 3 switch as the gateway / next hop router, even if the correct entry door is directly connected to the same subnet / vlan?

The problem is that we are making changes to our network, and have several routers on the edge of our network configured static routes so they can achieve our other subnets, local and remote. These static routes will need to be changed when we move from one circuit to another, but some border routers are managed provider, and it is inconvenient to reschedule. Also, sellers will have to do more than once, the road changes if we want to clean our ip addressing scheme after the move. Once the changes are made, the topology of the network likely will not change for a long time, so I would stick with static routing. Given that we can grasp and control the static routes in our Dell 6248, can we just say sellers use our Dell switch as the next hop router when they change their static routes?

I know that ip redirects could try to "correct" this inefficient configuration, and that could cause problems, at least during the transition phase. On a small network with 10 servers, 100 computers and 80 phones, is it without further consequence of routing for the Dell 6248 layer 3 switch, or is this something configuration you should avoid (for other reasons)? Thanks for your understanding!

Without seeing a topology, you may be a little difficult to give recommendations. Is the 6248 your switch? It connects to your firewall? All edge switches are like L3 switches that are basically their own broadcast domain? If so, then what you are wanting to do would work. All edge switches have a static route of coverage which directed traffic to the 6248. You then place a static route pointing to the firewall on the 6248.

If all switches are in L2 and the 6248 mode is the only L3 switch on the network. Then the switches will not need static routes.

  • Aggregate bandwidth of Sg500 two stacking using two stacking ports?

Is the 2 Gbps of bandwidth when you use two stacking ports to connect the two switches?

Two if you want that quick failover. Otherwise, a failure of the link will lead members of the dislocation pile. For the SG500, they go on S3 and S4. On SG500X, they go on S1 and S2.

  • stack of sg500x - you can LAG stacking ports?

I have 2 questions to stack with the sg500x switch.  We have 3 of them.

#1 question - can we stack LAG two ports together, in order to increase the bandwidth of 20gbps cell?  I would like the width of band increased, and you can LAG the regular ports of 10G together but the manual and the admin interface user does not appear to support two connections cumulation between two switches.

question #2 - the manual says that you can configure all ports 10 4 regular ports or stacking according to the needs.  However, after digging a bit it seems that maybe it's a mistake in the documentation.  Elsewhere in the documentation, he mentions that by defining the configuration of the 'standalone' cell 2 stacking ports will be automatically retrieved as non-standard stacking ports.  Which explains how to get all the 4 configured as regular ports, but how do I set all 4 ports as stacking ports?  Of course, it does not matter with my setup if I can not LAG two ports stacking together.  My hope was to have 2 10 ports to each of the other 2 switches each switch.  Like this:

    Switch A S1 S2 & <->switch B S1 & S2

    Switch A S3 S4 & <->Switch C S1 & S2

    switch B S3 S4 & <->Switch C S3 & S4

    Hello Robert,.

    1. Unfortunately you can not DRAG stacking ports. The other port will be closed and act as a backup.

    2. I'll double check the documentation on this one, however, I can tell you that only a set of 10 G ports can be used as ports of the battery. As you mentioned, on its own, you can get back them for regular use.

Could I offer as a suggestion - if you are really ready to get the link of 20G, you could set all switches to standalone and use several shifts between them. This would add extra work that each switch should now be configured individually, but it would allow you to complete your design.

You type a letter in a word processing program (Microsoft Word, Corel
WordPerfect, OpenOffice, etc.). Do you have a word processing program
    installed?

If you have not installed Word processing program, you can use
WordPad, which ships with Windows. But note that WordPad is a very
primitive processing program (really more a glorified text)
Editor in Chief) and gives you much less control over the formatting to a real
    processing.
