Solution: CD - RW / DVD Rom stutters or has choppy playback
My computer specs
Labtop model: Dell Inspiron 5150
DVD ROM: Samsung CDRW / DVD SN - 324B
Problem
After reformatting my hard drive, my DVD-Rom is more play DVD smoothly. I had the playback choppy or stuttering. I use Intervideo WinDVD. Thinking that WinDVD could be the problem I went to Windows Media Player 10, but instead of reading who stutters, the film played too fast.
The reading was also weird, if I rebooted my computer and used WinDVD immediately, he would run smoothly, but eventually he would return to stuttering. Due to the eccentricity of this work and does not, it was difficult to identify a solution that has worked permanently (this is also the reason why I had edited this post so many times). So, I've listed all of my conclusions and solutions below.
Solutions
Difficulty 1
Download the last update of the BIOS from Dell downloads.
Here are the direct links for the Dell Inspiron 5150, I posted the update of WinDVD so. Since April 18. 2008:
Update to the BIOS: ftp://ftp.dell.com/bios/I5150A38.exe
Update of WinDVD: ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/app/R62171.EXE
I guess this would work with the other laptop Dell with their respective BIOS updates.
My results: Windows Media Player was playing much too fast, this corrects the problem DVD. However, regarding the choppy playback, I still had some problems.
Difficulty 2
Change your power settings.
- Open Control Panel
- Double-click Power Options
- Under the systems tab, select laptop
My results: Combined with the update of the A38 BIOS, it seems to work ok.
Difficulty 3
It is recommended to make your IDE controllers are in DMA not PIO mode.
Here is a useful link on the Dell Forum, he speaks of the PIO to DMA:
PIO DMA another link:
My results: System has already been set to Ultra DMA Mode 2, so this fix did not work for me.
Level 4:
During choppy playback, I fiddled with the settings of DVD players and was able to play the DVD without problem.
For Intervideo WinDVD:
- Right click on the area of the screen, select Setup
- On the Video tab, uncheck the "Use hardware decode acceleration" and uncheck the box "use acceleration hardware color."
I don't remember the exact settings uncheck Windows Media Player 10. But if you want to try this solution with this drive, I can point you in the right direction.
- Go to tools > Options
- Then click on the performance tab
- Under video acceleration, tap Advanced Options
There are options for the video acceleration and DVD video below. "Use Video Mixing Renderer", might be what I unchecked, you'll have to fiddle around for yourself.
My results: Best solution for me, never had a problem since. I use Intervideo WinDVD. The colours become slightly darker; I think they look better. (Note: I installed the new BIOS before that)

Anyone know where I could get it fixed cheaper than you?
Or better yet... anyone know where I can I get it fixed?David Hutchinson
Hello
This is not an answer to your question but can solve the problem if it is the same that I had.
In my case, the drive tries to spin but it slips. Only the motor shaft rotates and the drive remains at low revolutions that were not even stationary.
The problem was caused by the fact that the plastic part (black color) of the mechanism which engages the disc (CD or DVD) slips on the
motor drive, axle and th couldn't do a full rotation or runs at the specified speed.
The solution is to delete the article in plastic and put a small amount of super glue on the axle and then put it back.Where there is a similar issue, I hope that solve you it like I did.

My Satellite M40X: DVD Rom has had serious problem
Dear friends,
my laptop worked for 3 months without any problem.these days when I put a CD in DVD rom is not recognized and a error message on the screen that says that no cd is in the drive.could would be a software problem or it's definitely a hardware malfunction. I look forward seriously to your instructions
Amir
Installed some burning software, burning plugins or something similar? In most cases, these programs are the troublemakers. Try to uninstall all your burning stuff, and maybe it's a good idea that you download a reference (such as ultimate boot cd cd; Link: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html) or memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/) and try to boot from the cd. When the CD starts correctly, then you know it's something with the configuration of your software.
Try it :)

Hey, Vino,.
The first thing you need to check is if you see the optical drive that is reflected in the Device Manager (start > run > devmgmt.msc > optical discs CD/DVD)
1. If so, then follow the steps below.
Click on the Start button in your desktop computer, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type the following text:
Regedit.exe.Click the OK button.
Click on the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Click on the plus sign (+) next to SYSTEM.
Click on the plus sign (+) next to CurrentControlSet.
Click on the plus sign (+) next to control.
Click on the plus sign (+) next to the class.
Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
On the right side of the window, click UpperFilters.
Click on edit in the menu bar.
Click on remove and then click OK.
On the right side of the window, click LowerFilters.
Click on edit in the menu bar.
Click on remove and then click the OK button.
Click Register and then click on exit.
Restart the computer normally.
NOTE: once you have completed these steps, check for other CurrentControlSet records in the registry that can be titled CurrentControlSet001, CurrentControlSet002, CurrentControlSet003 and so on. If these files exist, you must follow this procedure for every folder CurrentControlSet delete upper and lower filters.
2. If not, please let us know where you are not able to see the optical drive, that is my computer, Device Manager. What happens when you insert a CD/DVD?

When I bought my Microsoft Windows XP SP2 first, it doesn't have a DVD - ROM drive. How can I change my current drive, a CD-ROM drive, a DVD - ROM drive quickly, efficiently and without a purchase?
You cannot change the hardware specifications of your existing optical drive. Buy a DVD - RW drive (no interest in buying a ROM) and install it. It is easy enough to install an optical drive. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

Hello
I would ask you whether it is possible to replace the DVD - ROM drive on my satellite 1800-814. I want to buy a DVD - RW (for example NEc 6500 has), but I'm not sure of the compatibility.Thank you
Hello
As much as I know there is no public information about it. In my opinion, you should try to pick up some information of service partners. I'm pretty sure that can give you correct information.
You can also try with the external solution but the problem is that your camera has just USB 1.1 and data transfer will be very fast.

DVD - ROM SD-R2412: difficulties of recognition of CD
Hello
I scoured the forums a lot, but I can't seem to find a solution to my problem. I have a Toshiba SA20-S103 with a DVD - ROM SD-R2412, which I use mainly for burning and playing music. CD - R that I use are Fujifilm 700 MB (up to multispeed 52 x) CD - R.
Until a few weeks ago, as everything worked perfectly, but all of a sudden my drive seems to have trouble with freshly created audio CD playback when playing a new disc, it starts to jump sooner or later, if it recognises the disc at all. The funny this is that there no problems with playback of the original CD or CD I burned more there.
If I take a quick look at the back of the CD, I have created, it is very difficult to differentiate between the band of burning and the burning/empty Strip, while normally, the contrast between the two parties is quite obvious. It almost seems as if the laser in my drive lens became paler or lower, but it's probably nonsense.
However, both my CD drive laptop and my stereo recognize and read these discs perfectly, so I am not sure the data they contain are fine. I have already tried using Windows CD Creator instead of Nero, but has not made a difference. I don't know much about computers, so any help would be more than welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Antoine

I forgot to mention that I already tried to clean the lens of the laser with a lens CD cleaner, which, unfortunately, has not made a difference.

I had this problem before, but I didn't the first time, it's the webcam that has caused the problem. It s webcam trust wb - 1400T. I had to use the product recovery disc and he had a lot of hassle to install all my programs again and this time I'm in the middle of exams and can't get it all done in time for my exams, as I have vital work on here I have to do.
.. .Please help me... I think it is the driver, but I don't know how to fix it.
Hi mate
> I installed a webcam, and it made my DVD - rom drive does not not with all drives
To be honest I have never seen that the webcam may have a negative influence on the internal CD/DVD drive.
I see really no connection between the webcam and ODD... very strange
Do you get any error messages?Anyway, in my opinion, you should try these solution ideas;
(1) remove the drive from the Device Manager CD/DVD and restart the laptop. After restarting again the operating system should recognize the STRANGE and should re-install the drivers.
2) access the registry and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
.. then restart the laptop.(3) download and install the tool freeware "CCleaner". This tool repairs registry and solves several problems in System.
If this does not work, then the new installation of the OS would be wise to check if the problem could be related to a software problem.
Best regards

Satellite A200 - 23P - mechanic of DVD - rom does not
I'm sorry for my English in advance this topic! -Thank you
I have a very big problem with my engraver of DVD (RM).
I bought SAT A200 - 23P three weeks ago.
The Win VISTA operating system has been installed. DVD - rom worked well.If I have installed Win XP to the second partition on my HARD drive (to install the disk with driver for sata drive in nlite) and installed all the drivers and utilities for Toshiba laptop, I found that my DVD-rom is not working while I press eject button.
Mechanic of DVD is not responding to eject in XP and not even in the BIOS!
It is interesting, mechanic DVD is the detection in BIOS, detects in XP, XP operating system votes - mechanic to the DVD works properly - its fable. However, if I have installed XP on the second partition, Win Vista does not load :(
I don't have a second chance for second selection (Vista and XP).
I now have XP only, even if Vista is on the first partition - I didn't delete it.Do you think that the DVD-rom is HW or SW problem?
I think that, given that the DVD-rom does not in the BIOS - HW error. But is very strange, if I install XP from mechanic to the DVD and then close is, DVD - rom does not...:)
If I manually open and insert the CD, the DVD does not (diode led no blink, just if I turn off the computer, led blinked once).
PLS help me someone-
Thank you!
Hi Michal
Your question is very strange, I mean the number of CD/DVD drive
The fact is that the readers of CD/DVD eject function functions should any operating system has been installed on your laptop. It has nothing to do with your software on the HARD drive.
So I wonder why the eject button works with Vista and not XP preinstalled OS? :|
My only plausible explanation is that sometimes there is a bad connection between the laptop and the drive. However the problem could be related to the hardware problem too
As you see it s not easy to say what's wrong exactly, we can only speculate.
Now some details about your installation of OS double.
You cannot choose between Windows XP and Vista because Vista boot manager was obliterated during the installation of Win XP.
This happened to me also. I installed Win XP on my Satellite and could not start Vista. The solution was simple; I used another original DVD of Vista (from my friend) and booted from this DVD. Vista has renewed the Boot Manager, and then I was able to boot Vista.
Then I downloaded the tool called Easy BCD.
This tool can change the Vista Boot Manager settings. I've edited and inserted a new Windwos XP OS entry. That s it!
