  Have you tried a forced reboot? Hold down the home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously for about 15-20 seconds , until the Apple logo appears. You won't lose anything.

• Multiple Applications open not showing Application Active

  Throughout the day, I have several applications like Excel, Outlook, Explorer, etc.  I find often times when I close a document that my screen displays an open application, but this application is not active then when I click it nothing happens.  It seems to happen a lot when I open emails and their attachments.  I'll close the attachment, and then I see my Outlook.  I click to open an email, but nothing happens.  I look down to the taskbar and see that Excel is the application active, even if I do not see it displayed on my screen.  I then click on Outlook before you can start using it.
