SONY DVD +-RW DW-Q58A

My Dell Latitude D620 came with a SONY DVD +-RW DW - Q58A and the latest firmware is UDS2.

This drive is unable to burn the media Double layer which, with the media, RITEK-S04-066 of the code.

Are there updates the firmware for this drive in addition to UDS2?

Does anyone know how to update the list of media supported by this player?

Thank you

There are 2 lasers in a Dvd Drive, a CD and a DVD. I'm guessing that the DVD laser has gone wrong. This is common with older players like yours.

You can try to uninstall the IDE channel that the unit is in the Device Manager and reboot, but I doubt it will help.

I do not use a Sony DVD but TDK or Verbatim DVD-R support. Whenever I used it I was able to create a recovery media. No problem at all.
I recommend you do the same thing. Believe me, it will not work correctly.

Recently, I brought in my Dim 9200 desktop purchased in 2006 to have installed Windows 7. When I got home, I thought everything was working fine, but I had not noticed at the time there was only a C drive which stood under 'my computer '. I tried to find new drivers, but windows tells me that they have installed the drivers up to date. I need help on what to do to solve my problem.

  • Sony DVD on Inspiron 9300

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 9300 running Windows XP Media. The laptop no longer recognizes the CD. It's in the Manager for devices with an exclamation point. The error indicates that the driver is missing or damaged. I went on the Dell driver download site and downloaded the driver/firmware for it (R104295), but which has NOT corrected the situation. It's a Sony DVD +-RW DW - D56A drive. Anyone can shed light on how to get it running again? Thank you!

    Hi Firstetq,

    Step 1

    g. click ok.

Check if you can burn the disc.

    Step 2

Try to create a restoration system manually, so that in this case, a problem occurs when executing these steps, you can always perform a system restore.

  • Sony DVD + R accucore incompatible with Small Business server 2003

These DVD works on any computer with XP or Win 7 or but not on a server running SB 2003

  • Sony DVD & DVDRW does not

Two of my DVD players have suddenly stopped woking.  I checked in the Device Manager, and they both appear with the exclamation point.

I tried to update the drivers, but have been informed that they are up-to-date.

I then tried the troubleshooting and received the message

"dll.c:windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\hcappres.dll is not a valid windows image please check your Setup disk."

As none of the DVD players work I copied the recovery disc shipped with my PC to a flash drive and tried to get the Device Manager to search for it, nothing helps.

Also, I have removed both drives in Device Manager and rebooted the PC. Once readers again appeared with the exclamation point and are not recognized in my computer.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

I checked the C:\Windows\System 32 | pilots and none of the drivers you listed are there.  There are files listed for all these without the suffix .sys. Is it the same?

They would be the same that you are probably set to 'hide' the file extensions.

Because one or more of these drivers can be "damaged" that I might suggest at this stage is to remove the UpperFilters and LowerFilters values in the registry key.

Do follow the steps for Windows XP under "fix it myself" in the following article:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us

Create a restore point from the system beforehand and restart the computer later.

If you wish, you can try the automated fix it first, but it does not always work.

Also note the section in the article which refers to "some programs maybe isn't able to use your CD or DVD drive until you reinstall these programs"

If you must reinstall the software after you remove values are of course you have the latest version of this software which is known to be compatible with Windows XP.

If iTunes is installed, make sure to install the latest version of hardware drivers (4.020.5) (installs the GEARAspiWDM.sys):

  • My dvd drive doesn't read disks?

I'm on Windows XP Edition family with Media Center and endowed of all three service packs and updates.  The drive is a Sony DVD + RW DW Q58A.

I tried a disc of data of a show, I was in, but the disc won't admit there is data on the disc in the drive.  I tried the all new factory install disks (who worked three weeks when I installed new hardware, they came with), CDs from multiple manufacturers that I myself, had burned the original factory delivers Bo to my favorite show on CD and even the recorded data files drive my friend saved for me.  None of them would play; I continue to see the DVD - ROM icon go to a disk, but it shows 0 bytes free and total 0 bytes, IF it bothers recognize the drive at all.  I can't open the disk in Windows Explorer; There is nothing except an empty window.

~ I did the thing to uninstall/reinstall device; no luck

~ I tried to update/restore to the driver; the one I have is the only integer

~ I tried the Mr FixIt option, but still HE always tells me that my disks are not readable, although I know full well they should be.  The only thing I can think of that may have messed with things is that I accidentally deleted my CD burning software pre-installed.  However, I did go back and redownload/install, so that shouldn't be a problem.

    * Update: I managed to somehow get a frying play-off-the Bo TV disc once out of maybe 15 times, I tried to play it.  The spinning drive and it will read the disk enough to tell me the name of the song and its duration, but Mr FixIT don't like this drive if I try and run the automated thing.

I think it's time for a new drive, but I hope I can kickstart it to life.  Any suggestions would be helpful.
