Hello

1. have you tried to connect the device to a different USB port and check?

2. What is the brand and model of the computer?

3. do you get an error related to the question message/code?

This issue can be caused by bad/corrupted the USB host controller drivers. It is also possible that your motherboard doesn't have enough power to power to the top of all your USB devices.

I suggest you to disable and re-enable the USB controller and check if it helps.

Use Device Manager to disable and re-enable all the USB controllers. This allows controllers to recover the port USB of his condition does not respond. USB controllers represent the USB ports in Device Manager.

To disable and re-enable the USB controllers, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

a. Click Start, type Device Manager in the start search box and press ENTER.
b. expand Bus USB controllers.
Note: You will need to scroll down to find this point.
c. the first USB controller under Bus USB controllers right click and then click on uninstall to remove it.
d. Repeat steps above for each controller USB is listed under Bus USB controllers.
e. restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically check for changes on the hardware and reinstall all USB controllers that you uninstalled.
f. check the USB device to see if it works.

If the problem persists, I'll ask allows you to check the chipset driver updates you find on the manufacturer's website. The chipset drivers normally integrate USB controller drivers as well.

Hope this solves the problem. If the problem persists, you can write to us and we will be happy to help you further.

  • Mouse and keyboard on Sony Vaio laptop does not. It seems, tried everything. (win 7)

A few days ago, my mouse integrated on my computer laptop everything just stopped working unexpectedly.  I restart my computer and on the login screen, I realized that my keyboard did not work also.  I got my hands on a keyboard and a usb mouse and managed to integrate windows where I tried a restore system since a few days earlier.  When I started my computer, I was greeted with a screen icon and mouse balc.  After having tried everything, I backed up my hard drive and did install a clean windows 7.  My mouse and keyboard still do not work.  The computer recognize my keyboard, but not my mouse, and I tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers.  I have reset the BIOS, everything.  I should mention that the keyboard works fine in the configuration menu of f2 and f8 one too.  It seems just, nothing associated Windows.  In addition, the mouse and keyboard do not work in safe mode.  suggestions please!  My computer is a Sony Vaio laptop, around the age of 3 months.

    Hello Orwell,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

You have a Windows 7 installation disc?

As you cannot start your computer at all, I suggest to run a Startup Repair to repair the damaged boot system files and try to boot into normal mode. See the section: How to use Startup Repair in the following link.

    Startup Repair: frequently asked questions

If this does not help, try to boot from a disc to install Windows 7 on the Windows recovery environment mode and then try to run the Startup Repair tool and check if you are able to start normally with mouse and keyboard.

Hope this information is useful. Let us know if you need more help, we will be happy to help you.

  • Mouse and keyboard stopped working on Windows 8

I have a laptop Sony Vaio model VGN-NS110E 2010 number middle. Since a few days ago my mother used it, and after it was closed and she turned on, the keyboard and the mouse do not work (the mouse wont even see on the desktop). (Yes, I tried to plug in an external mouse and keyboards, the computer won't even save) It seems that the keyboard does not work for a second before loading windows because I can press the NumLock key and the light comes on and goes off. But once windows starts loading, it stops working. The mouse and the keyboard also works if I get the computer start in recovery mode (the blue screen with the options to perform a system recovery, etc.). I can't the computer to boot in safe mode. And I tried to do a reset back a few days or a few weeks, and the mouse and keyboard still do not work. I'm guessing that the drivers are not loading, for some reason any. I guess the logical solution would be to do a factory reset, but my mom has all these bookmarks saved in his internet browser explorer, that she does not want desperately to lose. Anyone has any suggestions on how to fix or at least on the way to save somehow my moms stuff and if a reset?

    Hello Duane,

Thank you for the update on the issue.

If the keyboard and mouse does not work in one of the option, this means there could be a hardware problem is not getting detected so you may have to perform a refresh of your computer, but for this, there are also a working keyboard and a mouse. The best option that I can help you is to contact the manufacturer of your computer (SONY) or technicians who can check it physically and can reach to the root cause.

Keep us updated on the issue.

My DVD Player wasn't working, so I fixed it with the help of some advice from a forum: go to regedit to remove the 'previous' and 'high' or something, I have a catalog specified.

But then the keyboard and the touchpad is dead in Windows. Nor can I use an external keyboard and mouse.

I tried to start it in safe mode and with the last settings that worked. None succeeded. Apart from the fact that the keyboard actually works to make choices, therefore, a question Ms.

After the update to el Capitan my iMac will not be asleep. I put it to sleep and turn off the mouse and keyboard that goes with it, and 5-10 minutes later, he wakes up on his own. Now, I have to stop it after use and each time only. The Major pain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please test after taking each of the steps that you have already tried:

    Step 1

Take all of the measures suggested in this support article, including those under the title "If the previous steps do not work." It is the starting point for a new effort to solve the problem.

Note that, as stated in the article, the computer will not sleep, if some sharing services are enabled. In the menu bar, select

     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Sharing

    Disable all sharing services.

    Step 2

If sharing music iTunes home sharing is enabled, disable it or quit iTunes. Do the same with third-party applications that have a similar feature.

    Step 3

    Select

    Step 4

    Select

     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ ▹ Advanced Bluetooth...

    /var/vm

    In the Finder, select

Go ▹ go to the folder...

from the menu bar and paste it into the box that opens by pressing command + V. You won't see what you pasted a newline being included. Press return.

    Hi RobertBoivin,

    1. you have made no changes to the computer before the broadcast took place?

during boot, or perhaps in Safe Mode

Assuming that your keyboard works during boot (and it should; trying to tap F8 to access Advanced Boot Options Menu), probably the simplest method would be to make a Hiren Boot CD, boot from it and use one of the many included tools.  I have not experienced with your particular situation, so I can not tell you what tools will be or will work for you, but my guess is that USBDeView might work.

Download the Hiren ISO here (download important enough but worth it).

I like to use ImgBurn to create a bootable ISO CD:

Thanks for all the help. Seems that there is no easy 'reset' for bad hardware configurations.

However, I dug to the bottom of my Lac 'tech' and found a USB-to-PS/2 adapter, which allowed me to use the USB mouse into the PS/2 port and reactivate my USB ports.

    All is well now.
