  Try the following.

  Download IDT Audio Installer on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

  http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe

  One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers.  Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.

  When you are finished, download and reinstall the Chipset driver at the following link.

  Chipset Driver - Windows 8.1

  Once the reinstallation is complete, turn off the laptop by pressing the SHIFT key when you click farm to temporarily prevent a hybrid boot.  One time finished, disconnect the power adapter, and then remove the battery.  Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.  Reinsert the battery and plug in the AC adapter.

  Robinet tap away at the key esc that you start the computer to launch the Start Menu, and then select f10 to open the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the default values (sometimes it's f9, but the menu below indicates the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press ENTER.  Press f10 to save the setting and still use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press on enter.

  Allow Windows to fully - charge it will automatically load an audio driver, but let just this complete.  Then open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.  Once this done, do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select playback devices.  'Speakers and headphones' left click once to highlight, and then click the Set Default button - check if you now audio.

  1. What is the number of brand and model of the computer?

  2 have you tried to install Audio drivers in compatibility mode?

  3. do you get any error code or error message during the installation of the audio driver?

  4. have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

  My laptop has recently installed 20 or if Microsoft updates when I last reboot. Now, there not its coming out of the speakers or headphones even if the system indicates that it should work fine. It seems that some people have this problem as well and I see a possible solution for Windows 8. I, however, am running Windows 7.

  Efforts for resolution of the problems so far have not been successful. Can anyone offer a solution?

  I experienced the same problem on a HP Envy 17, 2670 QM 3D, running Windows 7.  After 5 hours looking for a solution, call the HP and Microsoft Customer Service (unnecessary - both are pointing the finger at eachother or user) I came across a "default sound" that has changed.

  Check in the control panel-Sound-manage Audio devices.  My changed default "speakers, HP Wireless... ».  I have reset the value defaults to "speakers and headphones IDT high definition.  The sound comes back and everything is back to normal.

  I bought a Newegg L655-S5111, which was on sale, put an SSD, and then installed a legitimate copy of Windows 7 Professional 64 - bit, I got from my current employer (I'm a computer scientist). I've updated to the latest revision of the BIOS (1.70), and I have all the updates installed Windows, all drivers installed, including the correct drivers Conexant HD Audio and ATI HDMI Audio.   Can you please do a test and install original recovery image Toshiba, that you got with your laptop on this new SSD, just to see if it will work with the original image.

  Recovery image contains all the necessary drivers and OS is perfectly configured so each piece of hardware in your laptop should work correctly.

  Normally, for high definition sound cards, you need two patches from Microsoft:
  KB835221 and KB888111.

  As a first step, the fact is that this laptop is pretty old. I think around 4 years. Am I right about that? There may be a lot of dust on the inside and as a result you have it sometimes overheat issue. May be time to clean the laptop.

  If is also possible through these overheating problems is something faulty now. It may be that some contacts (associated sounds) are not much more and the contact is it sporadically. To be honest, to me that sounds like hardware related issue. I really don't think you can do much alone. Maybe try to make clean OS install and see what happens.
