SRM and EMC Clarion

Hi, quick question, I'll implement a SRM environment using 2 emc cx-420, I configured the storage on both sites and set up areas etc, I presented and configured LUNS on the site of production as vmfs volumes

My question is, you will need to add on the site dr vmfs LUNS before configuring the srm or is there an intelligent process on the replication san adapter to do this

You will need create a VMFS volume on protected site, this volume get replicated to the recovery site using berries replication technology. When you do a failover LUNS will be published on the recovering site, hba will be reread and the volume will be resigned. I suggest to start reading the pdf RS admin file that contains a wealth of information:

CLARiiON CX4-120 with FLARE 4.29 on two sites with fiber mirror active conection.

Virtual Center 2.5.0 (trial mode), SRM 1.0.1 (trial mode) and EMC MirrorView SRA 1.4.0.15 are installed on both servers.

I have the virtual machine on Mirrorview/s LUN replicated and SRM connection, management table, the mappings of the inventory and protection group configured on the protected site.

Plan of stimulus is configured on the recovering site, and when this plan is stable or running - error has occurred (error in the photo and log attached).

Can you help me? May be a few steps are missing... hm...

    Hi Veli,

It seems also the newspapers have no consistency groups to be created. It is also a requirement with the SRA Mirrorview (well, it used to be, not sure about the SRA new).

It might be interesting to look at a doc I wrote on how to implement the Mirrorview and Clariion for MRS.

  • SRM and EMC Solutions Enabler

    Hi all

I'm looking in the options available for implementation of the Site Recovery Manager with EMC Symmetrix storage.

We are looking for ways to use the Solutions Enabler to avoid the need to directly attach the MRS server to the storage group.

I can be this misunderstanding, but is it not possible to install the activator of solutions on an ESX host and use this host as a gateway to the table?

I imagine that if this is how things work then the Activator would install on the Service Console OS within ESX?  Is something similar to happen with ESXi?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

    Dave

Although it was possible to use the ESX host, it is not at all achievable with ESXi.  I personally found that by using a dedicated server to Solutions Enabler and the installation of the client on the server services SRM has been the most elegant implementation.

    Thank you!

Guests of protected sites are restored from sleep mode (DPM is disabled) so that storage can be removed on their part and set to read only.

I agree with what said GSS, the problem with the LUN downgrade error is very likely with the SRA and that is why EMC. I think as the hosts of the protected site of sleep problem can be linked to that as well (not able to remove LUN?)

About your VM stopping, you say that the virtual machine stops successfully? The default value is for MRS wait 5 minutes (300 seconds) for closure, if the virtual machine takes more time that you do not want to change the timeout value in the advanced settings. • Move cluster configured with replication SRM and Vsphere

    All,

We go 2 groups in the near future to achieve a geographical distance between the 2 sites.

A cluster is equipped with VMware 5.0 replication SRM and vSphere and the other cluster running VMware 5.5 and SRM in combination with replication of vSphere.

What is the best way to move these clusters, I must stop the replication or interrupt the replication process and are these action to perform on SRM or we need to perform any action on the virtual machine itself?

I read that a stop is setting the State to not configured including destroy all files in the target directory.

Does anyone have an experience by physically moving a cluster managed by SRM (and replication of vSphere)

    Any help is welcome

  • vCenter upgrade from 5.0 to 5.5 for the new machine, SRM and dvswitch

Anyone know if it is possible to do a upgrade to vCenter from a machine under windows server 2008 on a new computer server 2012? The database is located on an external computer. All I can see in the upgrade doc is that there is a tool for migrating data with earlier versions, but not when moving to 5.5.

Also - what implications are there if there's a dvswitch in the site?

    Thank you very much

    Hello

I guess you run ESXi and vCenter 5.1?

If it were me, I'd do the following:

-Install a new instance of vCenter on a new Server R2 2012

-Turn off the old server vCenter on 2008.

-Save the remote SQL database vCenter.

-Install a new instance of the Web, the inventory Service and SSO client. I remind vCenter to use the SQL remote database existing and chose to 'upgrade' when installing vCenter.

Then you'd be in vCenter server 2012 R2 with a new facility and using your old database that will get upgraded. You will always retain so your dvSwitch information. I'm not sure of SRM, you probably need to reconfigure it to use the new vCenter Server (unless you use IP records or that you can easily return?).

There are a few things to think about when you really do. Can you afford any downtime on vCenter? What of SRM and your RPO/RTO? The complexity is your configuration of SSO? Use you things like tags in web client (they would get lost in the reconstruction of the inventory service)? What confidence you are on the side of things RS? It is possible to save these configurations, but I'm not sure restore them on 5.5.

The main thing to consider is the database really. Worst case, you can restore it and turn back on your old vCenter 2008.

Happy to be told I'm wrong or answer your questions. If in doubt, contact VMware technical support and ask for help.

    Kind regards

SRM with HP EVA-8400/6400 returns an error when you run a test:

    Response from HP:

It seems that EVA communicates very well with the Sra So. now, you need to scan for the SRA in SRM and then try to perform the replication again. If she fails to perform replication with the SRM then you will need to contact the VMware team, because that would be a problem with the SRM and not a problem with the EVA contacting the SRA.

Not sure what Miss us here. I work with the administrator of storage without result.

We found the problem, it was because of the permission on the user account for the table. Need to be added to the storage administrators group.

  • VM ESXi and Cisco's UCS and EMC without a question of a novice

I'm confused about the places where to install ESXi 5.0. This is on a windows Server or UCS blades if you have blades of the UCS and EMC San

I know that we must install vcenter, a first round upward on the Cisco UCS blades. Do I connect EMC San?

How to set these at all? I need a tutorial step by step for these 3 types of equipment to set up.

    Thank you!

You can install any OS on blades, it's simple as console for all blades connected with the network and storage, it requires knowledge networking and storage configuration Cisco blades. Each blade has a remote as ILO or DRAC console, you can mount ISO image and start to install the OS, according to the needs we can configure boot from the local disk or boot from SAN, engineer of the UCS who has enough knowledge will create profiles of service for a whole different requirement for Windows Server and Citrix Xen server or ESXi servers , each requirement will be have the profile, just add blades and card service profile to access the console Blade Server, please download UCS virtual device and confiure and start learning.

  • SRM and vReplication need help

Hi all.  We're new here and desperately need help with SRM and vReplication.  We had a case open with VMware, but apparently we are a large enough customer because we've been down for more than 3 weeks with limited (and very limited) contacts with VMware.  Us running vSphere 5.0.1 with self signed certificates and try to install the SRM and vReplication.  After you have reinstalled completely vCenter Server both protected and recovery sites, we have installed SRM in both places.  Currently, we are trying to install and configure VRMS.  Even if we deploy VRMS and are able to connect to the server, the Summary tab never displays the name of the server and the VRM will not accept self signed certificates generated by vCenter and SRM.  Anyone (nothing to do with VMware) can help us.

    Hello

The message to the attached screenshot - "local and remote servers use certificate methods of trust. ' is generated by the MIS servers due to the different configuration on both sites. I guess that SRM can be modified to use only digital fingerprint matching, but I've not done this before.

If the VRM servers are configured differently, so that the message would be "method of trust Incompatible certificate used on the server" Server: port ".» Two VRM servers must use the same method to trust certificate. ».

    Kind regards

  • SRM and VCenter on the same server?

I was just by reading the documentation and I saw that I need to have vCenter in both places in my SRM deployment. Now I'm on a server. SRM and vCenter co-exist on the same server? Is it still a good idea. I don't have a problem with the purchase of another server if I need to.

I have a follow-up question on the vCenter licenses. Do I need to purchase a second license for the recovering site vCenter?

    -Patrick

SRM and VCenter can coexist on the same server.  You will see a performance impact when you test your disaster recovery plan.  I think that a lot of achievements have vCenter and SRM on the same server.  If you do not want to take the risk of a performance hit on your vCenter server you might move RS for its own box, but I advise to use a virtual machine instead of another physical server.

I think that you need a license of vCenter to each site.  If your recovery site hosts only the DR then you can use your existing licenses for ESX.  If your DR will site also its own VM produciton is then you will need full license.

  • U2, SRM and SRA vCenter 6.0 compatibility

    Hi all

We currently have vCenter 5.5 Update 2 with SRM 5.8.1 and SRA for EMC VNX (EMC VNX SRA with MirrorView Enabler for 5.0.39 VNX) and want to upgrade to vCenter 6.0 Update 2.

In the table below (from VMware interoperability matrices):

    VMware Site Recovery Manager6.16.05.8.1
    VMware vCenter Server 6.0 U2THERE
    VMware vCenter Server 6.0 U1THERETHERE
    VMware vCenter Server 6.0THERE
    VMware vCenter Server 5.5 U2THERE

I see that vCenter 6.0 U2 only supports 6.1 SRM.

    I looked here:

Download VMware Site Recovery Manager for disaster recovery and planned migration

For the SRA that I need (EMC VNX SRA with MirrorView Enabler for VNX) and couldn't find it there.

This is a chart of the VMware Compatibility Guide:

Name of the partnerName SRAVersion SRASRM version (s)
    EMCEMC VNX SRA with MirrorView Enabler for VNX5.0.2 / 5.0.39.1395.8 SRM | SRM 5.1 Update3 | SRM 5.5 Update1. SRM 5.5 | SRM 5.1 UPDATE 2 | SRM 5.1 Update1 | SRM 5.1
    EMCEMC VNX SRA with MirrorView Enabler for VNX5.0.2.77/5.0.39.149SRM 6.0 | 5.8 SRM | SRM 5.5 Update1. SRM 5.5

According to this, there is no SRA for MRS 6.1.

    My questions are:

1 MRS. 6.0 works with vCenter 6.0 U2 (I know that it is not taken in charge with respect to the interoperability of VMware)?

    2. for employees of VMware - do you know if there is an adapter (for EMC VNX) to version 6.1?

Bottom line: I am looking for EMC VNX SRA with MirrorView Enabler for VNX SRM 6.1 (which is the only currently taken SRM supported by vCenter 6.0 Update 2).

    Thank you!

    Hello Daniel

    Your questions:

1 MRS. 6.0 should work with vCenter 6.0U2, but as you mentioned, it is not supported by VMware.

    2. as far as I know, such a DSM is underway. I suggest you speak with your EMC representative to confirm that and give you an ETA.

    Best regards

  • Celerra + SRM and Replication manager

Hi do anyone knows if its possible to integrate EMC replication manager a Celerra ISCSI / MRS. configuration?

Replication Manager / SE, I read integrates with Virtual Center, puts the virtual machines in snapshot mode (kind of like the fact of vcb) and then starts the replication to ensure that everything is in order, I also thought with the module for VMware tools with 3.5 update 2 part tools VSS should quiese SQL and make sure that its happy before the virtual machine put in snapshot mode.

I know with my current Celerra/SRM talks SRM server through the matrix of configuration manager and I expect actually has nothing to do with the real task of replication in celerra manager, im thinking it should be possible to use RM to kickoff between the Celerra replication and still have happy and work SRM.

I'm way off here?...  If someone knows the answer to this... Please let me know... It would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello

I write this as an EMC employee

«Replication Manager / SE, I read integrates with Virtual Center, puts the virtual machines in snapshot mode (a kind of like vcb) then launches the replication to ensure that everything is in order, I also thought with the VMware tools with 3.5 module update 2 part tools VSS should quiese SQL and make sure that its happy before the virtual machine put in snapshot mode.»

That's right – Replication Manager is able to do two things - integration with VMware Virtual Center to snapshots by car from Virtual Machines residing in a VMFS volume built on iSCSI.

Following the call in Virtual Center agent proxy Manager VMFS Replication called Celerra to take the local snapshot. This snapshot can then be mounted to another ESX for backup (if this ESX host is running version ESX console with a backup agent installed in this console - backups for flat file VMDK) or simply to allow the machine virtual administrator to navigate in the data store is presented as a wink on the recovery of ESX host to activate the Virtual Machine defined in full file recovery. The vocation of VMware SnapShot Manager provides a consistent point machine to return where the virtual machine recovery fails

Replication Manager can create replicas consistent application for such Applications a SQL and Oracle if these scores of applications based on VMFS volumes rather than posing as Raw Device Mappings. The caveat with this is that the volume presented to the Virtual Machine in question must be devoted to this Virtual Machine and a single VMDK file can be built on the VMFS volume) so you would need a volume for your logs, your database, etc. We call this use of replicas of "Virtual disk" case - confused I know

    So two use cases

VMFS machine restoration for a set of Virtual Machines and integrated individual application VMFS volume consistent replicas for specific virtual machines with their scores of applications built on individually provisioned VMFS volumes

I don't know why you want to use Replication Manager kickoff the SRM associated Celerra replication. the SRM model is basically continuous replication - i.e. an algorithm runs to determine to what extent the site of DR comes from the primary and push any data the differences across the wire. The bandwidth used for this can be strangled and demand

Replication Manager leads Celerra replication tends to be regular and non-continuous

With regard to your query on the integration of Replication Manager and SRM. I prefer to think to Replication manager and SRM for the moment be tolerant to each other. Replication Manager solutions I have just described are focused on the side backup and restoration of the entire equation of continuity of business and focused around that at the local level, so that the RS is more oriented toward the recovery room disaster

I don't see that going forward, there will be more integration and I hope that Replication Manager may in the future serve to ensure consistency of the request as a level of additional service in the comprehensive proposal of SRM
