SSD 256 GB always good?

I have a 256 GB Samsung Pro 850 as my boot (System and user). 256 GB, I have 150 GB left. My data and libraries are on 3.5 disks.

It's time to upgrade my boot drive?

Thank you

  • How to install and configure an SSD 256 on my laptop HP ENVY 17-3290NR (3D)?

I'd appreciate some advice how to add an SSD 256 (Samsung 840 Pro SSD 256?) to my laptop HP ENVY 17-3290NR (3D).  The laptop came standard with a 80 GB mSATA + 1 TB hard.  I would use the SSD 256 as the stand drive and install the operating system and programs on this drive and store all the data of the 1 TB HD.

What should I do with the mSATA SSD 80 GB? Where should I install the SSD 256? HD slot-1 or slot-2?  Thank you in advance for your help and instructions on how to proceed.

Have you given up on the SSD?

The office (w/ASUS Crossfire V formula-Z mobo) I use this type, has the same SSD that you asked. I used the method that I described in the previous post to clone the OS for the SSD. The SSD is the startup disk.

  • Samsung 830 SSD 256 GB compatible with ThinkPad X220i?

I am considering buying the Samsung 830 SSD 256 GB of disk, but want to make sure that it is compatible with my X220i ThinkPad. I'm sure it is, but I just want to be absolutely sure before you go ahead and spend the money.

With compatible I mean, physically, he'll be back in the TP without problems. Thank you.

According to PSREF, the X220i requires an SSD with these specifications, "SATA 3.0 GB/s, 2.5" wide, 7 mm in height. "All the new SSD sold today run at SATA-III (6 Gb/s) but not all are 7.0 mm thick. As long as the Samsung 830 is 7 mm thick (as opposed to the old 9.5 mm) then it should work perfectly.

Some manufacturers, for example Crucial M4, sell the 7mm and 9.5 mm variants of the same model. If Samsung is similar so make sure that you get the right variant.

  • Need satellite S50-B-15F - Details of the 256 GB SSD

    Hi all

Can someone tell me what is the brand and model of the SSD 256 GB drive in the Satellite S50-B-15F laptop Toshiba comes with that? Product information is very good except the SSD which is a shame...

I know that the SSD itself will be definitely better than a HARD drive, but I still want to know what Toshiba puts in this model. Is this model SSD 3 GB or 6 GB?

What brand is the SSD: Toshiba Q or something else?
I own a couple of SSD in my PC which is great, but I would like to know what I'm buying.

    Thank you

AFAIK the S50-B-15F Satellite was equipped with a M-SATA SSD 256 GB drive.
The laptop was equipped with chipset Mobile Intel HM86 and this chipset supports 4 ports SATA 6Gbit performance.

Unfortunately I have found more information about the mSATA SSD, but I guess that if the chipset is compatible 6Gbit, the SSD drive should be able to support that speed too.

However, if you find more details on the SSD, feedback would be appreciated

  • 256 GB SSD for dv7-3180

    Good evening.

I just bought an 840 SSD 256 GB pro for my hp Dv7-3180us sumsang.

I try to see if the bios SATA. But there is no option for me to do.

What can I do? Help, please.

    You are the very welcome.

If your laptop comes with English, french or Spanish version of W7 and you can read all 25 characters of the product key of W7 on the bottom of your laptop and do your own installation of W7 media.

    Here's how...

Use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. The link below. You need a DVD or a 4 GB flash drive using the USB compilation method.

Use the product key of windows 7 of 25 characters to activate your installation.

    http://download.CNET.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-download-tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below. Download the Windows 7 version that is on your product (Home Premium, professional or ultimate) key to apply.  SP1 Refresh of media files are the latest ISO files.

I wish I could tell you what sata mode is on your laptop, but I can't.

Some dv7 it have to AHCI, and some have RAID. It depends on the series.

For example, the model dv7-4000 series of this person has been on ahci.

  • What is a good size SSD for Macbook with Bootcamp?

I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch, mid 2012 version.

I think about upgrading the SSD HARD drive, but what would be a better option?

    • SSD 256 GB
    • SSD 512 GB

    General information:

I use my laptop for school work so I need to partition my laptop for Windows as well.

I have an external hard drive and the USB for storage purposes, but I'm going to need to download apps from the school.

    Minimum requirements:

    • At least 90 GB of free hard drive such that it requires for installation of Windows on Boot Camp
    • HARD DRIVE 250 GB

Reason why I am upgrading to SSD is for my laptop be quick. Right now, need me at LEAST a minute to start my laptop and most of the time, I have to wait 30 seconds for my laptop to open an app to buy a mac because his young, but now my friends colleagues Windows user starts their laptop in 3 seconds.

Given the rapid decline of the SSD price, I suggest to get the largest SSD drive you can afford because you don't know how your Windows installation will grow especially if your schoolwork is Windows-based.

But you can also consider that an alternative to Boot Camp creates a Windows virtual machine in VMware Fusion, Parallels or Virtual Box. He doesn't have to take as much space, can be saved and can be run at the same time as Mac OS rather than to place it.

  • Added the new kingston 256 GB ssd to my MBP 13 "2012

I added a new ssd 256 GB kingstone to my MBP 13 "2012 and it worked fine for a month, today it has frozen and restarted without reason. and there is a folder with a questionmark in the middle of the screen icon. I once git to start again and now it stoped working again. Can any ideas on how I fix this?

You can contact the manufacturer and see what are the provisions of the warranty.

Start the recovery partition and run disk utility > first aid.

If there is no problem, remove the SSD and install it in a closed Chamber.  Plug it into the MBP via USB and see if it will start the MBP.  If so, the internal SATA may have to be replaced.

    Ciao.

  • Cloning of SSDS for SSD

I just bought a HP Zbook 1517 that works great on Windows 7. It has a 256 Gb Solid State Drive (SSD). After having used it for a few days and put away there files and folders I commonly use, I wanted to have a back up. So I bought a new SSD 256 GB and using another cloned computer the original SSD for the new SSD using Macrium software. As far as I could tell, an exact clone were made. However although the original SSD always starts the Zbook, I can't boot from the clone SSD. According to me, the bios must change, but I'm not totally sure what I should do. Help, please.

    Hello

I think that you need to fix the MBR. It can be done by a Windows 7 install disc or DOS environment with orders bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot and then.

Unetbootin is a good utility to do too much.

  • What are good Options for installing Linux on a Mac?

I have a Macbook Air in 2013 with a SSD 256 GB and 8 GB of memory. I have 80 GB free. I have Hyperacusis and had problems with a noisy computer a few years back, so wanted to avoid noisy readers.

I need to be able to access my files from either OS X / Mac OS or Linux. This is the biggest problem. If I can't work on the same files in OS X / Mac OS and Linux, I can't really do much with Linux.

I have trouble with some accessibility problems in OS x:

    1. I have sensory problems and need to disable more animation and more still of the blinking cursor. I used a hack to disable flashing cursors in some applications, but it does not work in LibreOffice, Pages, Mail, etc. It should work in Scrivener, and I plan to spend to Scrivener. He also works in bean and Textedit.

    2. I have problems of coordination/proprioception and could use the wider scroll bars. I currently use Scroll + scroll software, but it doesn't go anywhere. I could use a version of sticky keys, but the current version is not yet there. It shows the active keys on the screen, but I need to update t on the keyboard.

I will need to avoid some problems of accessibility on Linux:

    1. I have sensory problems and you will need to disable the animation and flashing cursors. I need to be able to boot Linux with minimum brightness. I tried Kde always open in blinding brightness.

    2. I have problems of coordination/proprioception and need to disable the touchpad gestures and listen; This required a patch kernel in Ubuntu, which meant running a non - lts version, which meant not being not able to use the Ubuntu repositories after support missed. I need to be able to keep the visible scroll bars and expand their. Sometimes, I need to use a software of scrolling.

One option is to use refined and a full install. It's intimidating. I'm done with installation of Xubuntu broke at some point because it crashed while it was installing. Another option is to use VMWare Fusion or Parallels or an equivalent Mac of Wubi.

One of these options would allow me to access my files from Linux? Those who would work with my lack of experience and power limited processor programming limited disk space?

    Thank you.

Yes, I would say that all VMs are options to save money, I would try to go with oracle virtualbox, it is free I use osx to run a Windows 10 and machines virtual ubuntu it allows me to access the files across, although you mind a program under osx, maybe not 100% safe to use the same format as the same program under linux so that could cause a problem if this is the case.

  • Installation internal SSD drive and storage of documents on external hard drive

    Hello!

I have an older iMac and I want to speed it up by installing a SSD drive.  Currently, my internal hard drive has 2 TB of storage, and I don't want to pay for one SSD of this size.  I consider the use of an external drive for my files and using the SSD internal applications and the operating system.  Can this work?  What is the internal SSD of minimum size I should get, more or less, according to my number of apps?   The documents will open at a decent speed?   It is up to me to use an external hard drive with a Firewire instead of USB connection?  Thank you!

    Hi Dan:

Apps it really depends how much you use and what types of data you want to keep in vs SSD HARD drive.

120-128 GB SSD: USD price: 60-70 price range.

for 250/256 GB SSD: about USD: price range of 80-90

for 500/512 GB SSD: about USD: price range of 130-150

An external 2 TB drive: for laptop (USB bus-powered - usually 2.5 "HDD included): 90 us $, for the largest 3.5" Office style HDD: 90 USD

    For me:

I store all my music on the external network drive (RAID 1 configuration, 2 TB, and 50 percent full this time), all my documents/pictures are still in my 500 GB SSD.

I don't have much video projects on my SSD.

I used about 200 GB in my internal SSD flash drive

Good luck finding your best solution.
