SSD drives on laptops "older."

I have acquired a handmedown laptop of my daughter: it's a G72-102SA, AFAIK.  The BIOS is F.09 - 20/04/2010.  It is currently equipped with a 250 GB HARD drive and I would like to install an SSD.  Crucial scans the laptop and says that an SSD would be nice.  But the advice I read suggest that BIOS SetUp should be set to AHCI for one SSD to be recognized.  Do not see this option anywhere.  That is why my laptop 5 year old can accept an SSD?

Yes No problem. You don't see any option for IDE/AHCI, because it is set to ahci by default and cannot be changed.

  • have replaced my HARD original with an SSD drive, but now my laptop does not recognize HP support assistant?

    Dear Forum,

I replaced my original HARD with a SSD drive, but now HP support assistant recognizes my phone? The program runs but updates always fail and when I look at general specifications the serial number, product name, number of product, microprocessors, system memory, motherboard, bios system, drive hard (s), and optical drive (s) are all empty. Interestingly, it recognizes the device to display (s) as being mobile intel (R) HD graphics and current resolution of 1366 x 768 and refresh rate 60.

  • Installation internal SSD drive and storage of documents on external hard drive

    Hello!

I have an older iMac and I want to speed it up by installing a SSD drive.  Currently, my internal hard drive has 2 TB of storage, and I don't want to pay for one SSD of this size.  I consider the use of an external drive for my files and using the SSD internal applications and the operating system.  Can this work?  What is the internal SSD of minimum size I should get, more or less, according to my number of apps?   The documents will open at a decent speed?   It is up to me to use an external hard drive with a Firewire instead of USB connection?  Thank you!

    Hi Dan:

Apps it really depends how much you use and what types of data you want to keep in vs SSD HARD drive.

120-128 GB SSD: USD price: 60-70 price range.

for 250/256 GB SSD: about USD: price range of 80-90

for 500/512 GB SSD: about USD: price range of 130-150

An external 2 TB drive: for laptop (USB bus-powered - usually 2.5 "HDD included): 90 us $, for the largest 3.5" Office style HDD: 90 USD

    For me:

I store all my music on the external network drive (RAID 1 configuration, 2 TB, and 50 percent full this time), all my documents/pictures are still in my 500 GB SSD.

I don't have much video projects on my SSD.

I used about 200 GB in my internal SSD flash drive

Good luck finding your best solution.

Factory hdd with SSD OCZ VERTEX 4 is replaced by the bios.

    What could be the problem?

    > Drive HARD factory is replaced with SSD OCZ VERTEX 4 recognized by the Bios.

You have the same start-up problems 8 win using the original HDD equipped Tecra R950?

From my point of view, it would be possible that this laptop does not start successfully because of the new SSD.

I recommend you check the previous HARD disk.
If the laptop could start correctly, the problem is related to the new SSD drive.

In some cases, it would be possible that the SSD firmware must be updated.

  • Use 'Protection of HARD drive utility' in SSD drive?

I replaced the HDD with SSD and reinstalled my Windows. Accidentally, I installed "utility protection of HARD drive? It is absolutely useless in system with SSD? Should I uninstall this utility?

    Thank you.

For a month I use SSD with my laptop satellite. I installed original recovery image which includes the protection of HARD drive utility. I can start, but it is inactive.

Strange thing is that with the HARD drive it was idle too. To be honest, I don't care about it. It is preinstalled but I have disabled auto-start.

I think you can remove the system.

  • Re: Satellite R850-12R PT52CE Win7 sees no SSD drive

I have laptop Toshiba Satellite R850 - 12R PT52CE and recently bought Adata SP900 256 GB SSD drive.
BIOS can see this disc, but after I tried to install Windows 7 64-bit SP1, at the stage where I need to select the location to install it, it showed nothing.
So I can not select anything.

    What is a problem?
I tried to search for drivers for Windows 7 AHCI, but found that for XP.
In the BIOS, I tried to put AHCI also Compatible mode, but were also unsuccessful.

Would be nice if someone could share the solution.

    Hello

AHCI driver is not necessary for Win 7, since this win 7 already contains this driver.
What you can do is to add the Intel Rapid storage technology driver that is available on the European driver Toshiba page.

  • Satellite R830 - support Sata III for SSD drives

    Hello

Why Toshiba Satellite R830 does not support Sata III, although the plug to motherboard. indicate that it is possible?

So you can not significantly increase the performance of your laptop by replacing the HARD drive with disk SSD Sata III. Is it possible to activate the Sata III (6 Mbps) on R830?

All the system settings? It's also kind of bios update request necessary support SSD and SATA III...

    Any help is appreciated! :)

    > It shows that SATA III is supported, but when you install the SSD SATA III disc it does not work with higher speeds to ~ 250 MB/s (cases Crucial M4).

From my own experience many SSD readers need a updated firmware that is provided by the manufacturers of SSD drives.

But readers in the R830 SSD seems to support these specifications:
    Host interface: Max 300 MB/s
Reading data supported: Max 250 MB/s
Writing data supported: Max 160 MB/s

By the way: the R830 supports a Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset and the chipset supports the storage interface high speed supports up to 6 Gb/s transfer rate for improved data access. Provides up to 6 SATA ports, 3 Gb/s with up to 2 ports support 6 Gb/s transfer rate.

  • Satellite R630 - 11L - sometimes did not recognize the SSD drive

    Hi all

I have a portable Satellite R630 - 11L and I just bought a Corsair F120 SSD for her, but my laptop a few times did not recognize the SSD drive and fails to start occurs. I searched on the Internet concerning the issue, but there are any topic related to my problem. in recent days, I have updated my bios but the problem remains. for example if I put the computer to sleep and he never wake ups as it should be. the blue windows screen 7 failure comes and an error message 'could not access the windows volume. If portable succesful started without problem occurs until I reeboot the computer. so most of the time I have to restart computer about 5 - 6 times to work normal. At the same time, I opened a topic on the corsair website. They told me to test my drive on another computer, so I test it on laptops, dell and hp to my friends, but there is no any problem don't like this.

So I test my ssd on an another toshiba laptop R630 which has a different hardware configurations, the problem remains that laptop too...

So I think toshiba may provide a bios update to fix this problem. This laptop really great, so I don't want to buy another.

y at - it advice to solve this problem?

    concerning

    Hi machka,.

    > I think that here is the toshiba support forum. is not here?
Here he s a Toshiba forum, that of right, but you can only chat with normal users like you and me. You will not find someone from Toshiba here.
The forum is provided Toshiba but for Toshiba users to exchange experience on different products.

So I think that the Quad is just. No one can say that every SSD is compatible with all computers. You need to understand this!
There are hundreds of different players and computers on the market and I m sure that no one can test a new computer with all SSD on the market. This is not possible, because it takes a lot of time and more expensive laptops that I think.

So if the SSD doesn't work, there is nothing that you can wait for the BIOS update.
Otherwise, you must purchase another SSD. Alternatively, you can ask a service provider allowed in your country, maybe that technicians have already experience with some SSD in Satellite R630. Just ask for that, they are the first contact for you! :)

  • Portege Z830-10N - SSD drive formatting / wiping

    Hello

What is the best way to wipe the SSD in this laptop.
Religiously I used always erase HARD drive to factory reset/wipe SSD drives.
The reason is that it becomes the player running "like new".

I was always told never to format these disks using a windows disc.
Erasing the HARD drive does not work in AHCI mode and you cannot change the SATA mode in the BIOS version :(

Is there a tool I can use to secure erase this player in this laptop?
If so what and where can I find it please?

Otherwise any1 know of any clever way of getting this deleted drive?

    Thank you

    Hello

    > I always told me never to format these disks using a windows disc.
    Why?
I put t see why the SSD doesn't have to be formatted before you start the installation of the OS.
I did it several times on my laptop where the HARD drive has been replaced with SSD drive.

During the installation of the system, you will be asked if you want to format the HDD/SSD to erase / format or create new partitions. You can do it if you want

  • Satellite A500 - 14K does support SSD drive?

    Hello everyone,

I'm considering buying an SSD to replace the old hard isk of my Satellite A500 - 14K with an SSD.
I have a question: it's going to be that simple:
-excerpt from my old hard drive
    -Insert the SSD 2.5 "
-use the recovery DVD to reinstall vista and w7

Is this laptop * tatooed * which would prevent this kind of replacement?

a s SSD not as expensive as it was a few years ago but it is still expensive and I don't want to buy an SSD that I can't use!

    Thanks for your answers,

    Olivier

    Hello

In most cases is not a big problem for the SSD drive works correctly.
I made these updates on my old Toshiba laptop and it worked normally.

Sometimes, it would be possible that an SSD would not be recognized in the BIOS. Such compatibility problem could be linked to the SSD drive firmware, but it happens in very rare circumstances

  • Can satellite A210-1AO - I use SSD drive?

Can I replace the original HDD with ssd HARD drive? And where can I found the DSS Satellite A210-1AO drive compatibility list?

I doubt you can find a list of the SSD compatible discs for Satellite A210 since the Satellite A210 where not tested and not equipped with these drives
But as far as I know, there is not much difference between the use of the common SATA HDD or SSD SATA drive.

As mentioned, the laptop supports the SATA controller and you can use an SSD designed for SATA controllers
Usually this SSD drive should be ok.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite A100 - compatibility SSD drive and recommendations?

    Hello.
I want to replace the original HARD drive in my Satellite A100-811 with an SSD.
What are the parameters for search? I can just about any 2.5 "SATA II SSD on the market?
    Intel X 25 - M Mainstream SATA SSD 160 GB G2 is compatible?
    Are there recommendations for Toshiba?

    Thank you!

    Hello

    A100 controller SATA HDD support.
Generally, it should be possible to use the laptop as part of a SATA SSD drive.
But I also read that not all laptops can properly manage the SSD drive.
In some cases the SSD update the firmware of the player might help.
So I can't say with certainty that the new SSD will work properly and that the BIOS would properly recognize the SSD.
I think you'll need to test the SSD drive
You could order it on Amazon and could test, in the worst case you could send again
I did it too with some RAM modules that didn t work in my notebook.

Please post some details if these updates succeeded or not, it would be interesting to know if you can use it in your A100 because I would use a SSD drive too
