SSD in my HP j020dx

Hello staff HP,.

I would like to know if this SSD would be OK for my HP M7 portable j020dx.

This pc came with a 1 TB HDD (5200rpm) so I would like to boost the speed of my pc by adding this player.

Also, where can I find my product key of Windows 8 or the activation key after I format the pc, so I have the OS in my SSD.

Thank you

I'm hopping for a quick response.

Hey,.

I just got the new SSD & caddy (120 GB) for my hp j020dx. I want to do this:

Make the SSD my main drive (OS disk) and always keep my HDD (1 TB).

What I did:

I put the SSD drive in secondary HARD disk location and then I initialized the disc and formatted. After that, I cloned the drive with Macrinium Reflect(except the Recovery partition cause I didn't have enough space).

Now, my SSD is ready to go? How can I start to boot from my SSD?

That I should just change the slots of the disks now? Move the SSD to the main location and the HARD disk to the secondary location?

I really need help on this point,

Thank you guys.

That's what you look at. Yes, you can put an SSD in the main location to the left and then move the primary to the seconday slot. This photo actually shows a SSD in the main location. You need the caddy and the cable. It can be purchased here:

    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?Main_Page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=542

Assuming that the original drive is not too much on it the best way to install an SSD is simply clone the old drive to the new by using cloning software. I use Acronis True Image Home and it has never failed me. There are other options. If you want to return to new squeaky you can use disks of recovery as long as the SSD is at least as large as the smallest HP player offered, which may not be the case.

Absolutely not, this will void the warranty.

  • Conversion of SSD drive for the reader to boot on m7 with Win8

I just bought a new m7-j020dx (product code E4S19UA #ABA) with Windows 8 from Best Buy.  Unfortunately, it came with a standard hard disc (HDD), and I would like to install a Solid State Drive (SSD).  I have an Intel 320 and 530 series-reader.  But I was not able to get a bootable from that disc.

The first thing I tried was cloning the drive to plant on a new disk of 530 series using AOMEI Backupper.  I got an error writing on the partition of the third.  I thought that maybe the drive was bad, so I tried again with an Intel 320 series SSD drive.  Same mistake.

The next attempt was to clone the disk to another disk of 1 TB (connected via USB), reduce the main partition with MiniTool and clone of the 320 series SSD.  The cloning went well.  However, with the new installed SSD, the computer will not start, and I get "Error0x0000225", something about a file not found.  Disable "secure starting" in the BIOS setup has not helped (I did after the clone).

So I thought I would do a clean install of win 8.  I generated a recovery on a 32 GB USB SanDisk player disc using Win8 recovery disk generator (as indicated on the site of HP).  I then ran the program of recovery out of the USB drive and after a few hours of software installation driver and several reboots, I get a message from HP, indicating that the installation was not complete.  Reinstall did not help.

I don't know what the problem is.

What the recovery disk USB one made from the original bad HARD drive (we get only a single shot at it)?  Do I need media of the order of HP on disks?  Are there problems with the use of SSDS on those computers?  Should I not a BIOS settig correctly (UEFI)?  Is there some Intel storage drivers clutter it?

I think my next step will be to create a disc Image and place it on the SSD drive.  But I doubt that this solves the problem with the start to it.

Another option might be to build fresh using Win8 media, then download and install each driver from the HP website.

Any ideas out there in the land of the experts?

    Thank you, erico, for advice.

I tried this with 320 (160 GB) series and SSD 530 series (120 GB and 240 GB).  Actually, I have not tried on the 240GB again, just two other. . The 240 GB SSD is the best candidate. During cloning, using a larger SSD is the best for worms down the road when other programs are installed.

So far, I've done everything suggested this that caramel:

-Updated the BIOS for later: F.43. 03/01/2014 (HP support site).

-Installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology v. 12.9.0.1001 (taken from the Intel site).

-Updated the firmware of the 530 series 120 GB using Intel SSD Toolbox v2.0.10 of 06/20/2013 (from Intel).

-The series 160 GB 320 firmware was up to date.

-Installed the Data Migration Software Intel v. 2.0, dated 29/04/2013 (taken from the Intel site).

-Updated environmental Support UEFI v5.3.3.0 dated 26/09/2013 (on the HP support site)

    -Enabled secure boot.

Even using Data Migration tool Intel did not work.  Before Support UEFI environment, data migration tool would go to the step to reset but does not start what whether manually or to another.  Support UEFI environment, the software says simply "Operation failed." Following the manual data migration softwarecan be a bit tricky. There are a few things about the bootind of the Acronis loader * which must be carefully designed for the operation to succeed.  Intel also has a forum which can help as well.

When I hit F10 and in the Configuration of the system, the Intel RST is not available.  So I suspect there is something not right here. The suggestion of updating the BIOS of caramel didn't across before it was made. It was not necessary and therefore not a good plan. I suggest that you use the Diagnostics UEFI and rollback to the previous BIOS. If you need advice with those just let me know. I have a few images that should show you what you should see.

A number of things, I noticed I did upgrades:

-The site of HP support for my computer has Intel Rapid Storage Technology 12.0.7.1002 v, dated 30/06/2013 is earlier than on the Intel site.  Maybe I should roll back. That must be rolled back to the version shipped by HP. I see you introduced makes as stated in a previous post.

-The HP support site has two distinct "RST", storage technology products a quick and a quick start technology.

Intel has "RST" next to their rapid storage technology, so I might be confused.  I have installed the driver of the technology of quick start on the HP support site so if it is not already on the computer, perhaps it is not running and is the "RST" which is the missing piece.  In fact, same caramel said I need fast boot technology driver and then linked to download Rapid Storage Technology driver. Do not pay attention to what it says caramel.

Here are two of the same?  Support site of HP with two drivers and version numbers, I suspect not.   Any ideas would be useful.  They are indeed different.

The Intel Rapid Storage Technology softpaq sp61600.exe driver provides NCQ (native command qeueing) features for the SATA controller.

The Intel Rapid storage Technology driver softpaq sp61325.exe is supposed to improve the SSD or mSATA consumption of hibernation and also imrove the resume from hibernation.

You can't even consider installing either softpaq to clone the drive. It is always better to keep things simple.

The SATA cable USB you use has two connectors usb at one end?  It is necessary to provide enough power for the SSD for data migration is not. Connect each usb connector to a different usb port.

  • OS to new ssd - Envy touchsmart

Hello. I wanted of HP Touchsmart 17.3.

It came with preinstalled 8 victory on the 1 TB with sata it came.

I bought an SSD drive to the second drive Bay and was planing to go win8 to it for speed.

    I tried a few methods, but I can't do.

I clone the partition on the new disk, but then I can't find a way to use the partition setup(or is it just for repairing) to do a "repair" for this victory 8.

Not there at - it no way to use this recovery partition to set "fees" until the SSD win8 or let it repair the one cloned on the SSD.

And how the hell does one change the startup in UEFI disk.

    Help, please

    Magnus

Based on the specifications of your laptop of HP ENVY TouchSmart m7-j020dx, I do not see any material that would have a negative impact on your ability to recover to an SSD. You can check that the wireless card is on before you perform the recovery, as this could cause the recovery to fail. You can also set the year in the BIOS to 2012 as the date has been known to casue issues.

    Alternatively, you can try this download of Windows 8 OEM;

    http://www.Google.com/URL?SA=t&RCT=j&q=en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.ISO&source=Web&CD=1&CAD=RJA&SQI=2...

It is a copy of Windows 8 OEM officially licensed and will also install Windows 8 Pro OEM. Download this file, burn it to a DVD, configure the computer to use the secure boot and uefi bios, boot from that disk and install Windows 8. It should register as an official copy and use the key embedded in the BIOS.

Recently, I placed an SSD of 256 to bay 2 in my Envy 17 model: m7-j020dx.  I cloned the drive, making it another 8.1 Win bootable disc.  The drive works very well, but unfortunately I can't change the startup disk.  The usual F9 key brings you to the menu of boot, but unlike most BIOSes, you are not able to select the second drive.  You can change the order but only to USB etc.  All solutions?

  • How to change back to SSD HARD drive?

My mcbook pro comes with the original 500 GB of HARD drive. When he ran with a problem, I went to an apple repair shop. How to use an SSD with your HARD drive

If you want to use an SSD as boot with your existing HARD disk drive, as the disk 'data', here is what you can do.

After installing the SSD, you need to partition and format the SSD using disc utility disc. Then install OS X on the SSD. Once installed OSX boot from SSD. Startup disk preferences to set up the SSD as the boot volume.

Open the preferences users and groups. Click the lock and authenticate you. Or CTRL - RIGHT click on your username account list in the sidebar and select Advanced Options in the context menu. You will see a field called "Home dir: ' on the far right, you will see an Edit button. Click on it. In the file dialog box, navigate to the location in house now located on the HARD disk (disk HARD/users/user_name /.) Select the folder, click the Open button. Restart the computer, as shown. When the computer starts, it will now use the home located on the HARD drive folder.

Another more technical method involving the Terminal and the alias is discussed in depth here: using OS X with a SSD and HDD - Matt Gemmell configuration. It's my preferred approach because I can choose which records of the House, I want to on the HARD drive and I don't want to. For example, I like to keep Documents and library files on the SSD because I frequently access their content.

Make sure that you keep the bootable system entirely on your HARD drive where you need it.

  • Question of cloning for SSD upgrade on 12 Macbook Pro

Previously, I did an upgrade to SSD on my Macbook Air to 2012 according to the instructions of JetDrive transcend. Basically connection via USB 3 and using Mac OS X to clear (and format) disc utilities new SSD, then restore again SSD and then remove the original 128 GB SSD and insert the new 480 GB SSD.  For about a month and so far without problem.

Now I'm trying to 2012 Macbook upgrade my Pro partner (on 10.11.6).  I got a Crucial SSD MX300 to replace his HARD drive.  Crucial comes with (or recommend) Acronis software.  And a lot of the messages of the forum recommend Carbon Copy Clone.

My question is if I can use the same method for the cloning of the HD as my Macbook Air (just restore disk of Mac OS X utilities)?  This time, I'm upgrading HARD drive and I don't know if something is different.  At the same time, if I got lucky the first time, I don't not ruin Macbook Pro my spouse this time.

    Thank you.

Yes, you can use disk utility to clone your MBP wives, but unlike CCC, it will not clone the recovery and Partition.

It will be a problem when it comes to cloning the drive?

No, it shouldn't be a problem. It may be necessary first turn on FileVault and encrypt the SSD. But if there is no problem just turn off FileVault on the HARD drive.

  • Sonnet Tempo SSD Pro - does not fit into my Mac Pro.

I just bought a Sonnet Tempo SSD Pro Plus (the same, physically, like the Sonnet Tempo SSD Pro)

I can't even came close it enter my Mac Pro end 2012. On the back of the bumps in the fan card, even with the fan cover pulled back.   This isn't a case to remove the lower lip, which obviously I do, I can't do it AT all, not even at an angle.

I called Sonnet, but incredibly the tech said that it must adapt.

It seems that I have only 2 choices: unscrew the fan and moving it more far forward of the mac (somehow) to cut about 1/2 "on the back of the Sonnet card.  The latter would obviously kill my warranty, and I don't even know if the bloody thing still works.

To my amazement, I find nothing about it online.  It's like the Twilight Zone.

Any ideas?  Someone knows has a video that shows a successful installation?

There is no end of 2012 Mac Pro, only mid 2012.

There is a 2012 end MacBook Pro.

Let's say I have a Pages or Word file with a list of names that should be kept confidential, and I want this file to the trash.

What happens if I change the file to remove these names? Removing ssd data? Can I trash then the file as usual without worrying about confidential data remaining on the ssd?

Or what should I do if I replaced the confidential names with something? For example, if I was John Doe on the list, what happens if I change to be John xyz? XYZ crash Doe on the ssd?

No it doesn't, use FileVault to encrypt the contents of the disc.

  • Best way to make my SSD works again with a single partition

There are 2.5 years, I replaced the original on my computer with a SSD hard drive. Months after I installed the beta version of Yosemite, the latest operating system for Mac at the time. To do this, the system created a partition on my drive, in which he has installed the beta version of Yosemite.

I have today on the same partition, I installed Yosemite, Sierra macOS running. In the other, I have all files, so I want to eliminate. However, when I try to do this by using the disk on my Mac utility, it is not possible; I get a message that says I can't delete the first volume of the disc. When I try to increase the size of the partition on which macOS Sierra operates, so reduced the size of the other, the system won't let me.
