Startup PC problems

I swithched on my home PC and had the error message "NTLDR is missing" displayed on start up, it says so 'press Ctrl, Alt Delete to restart I have done 4 times now and a reboot, but the error will continue to come in BACK of boot! Any advice?

Hello ShaunBenton,

We have, what operating system running on this computer?

In the meantime, take a look at the following article for Windows 2000:

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/318728

Note that even if the article is for Windows 2000, many same concepts can be used to solve this problem with the operating systems of today.

Let me know and we will go from there.

Best regards

  • Satellite C650-17Z: (new!) startup repair problem

A few weeks ago, I used the Toshiba restore disk to fix my laptop to its original state. However, I have now faced a similar problem. I have shut down prematurely on startup 'Starting Windows' screen, which then caused the Startup Repair to launch when I rebooted my laptop a few hours later.

What could be the results if the startup repair does not fix anything, since there is no set system restore points.

    Hello

The Sat A200-1V0 was equipped with the Toshiba Recovery CD.
So why you n t use this disk and try to start and to reinstall the operating system.

Insert the Vista DVD into the drive and start the laptop. Press the F12 key. This will enable the start on-screen menu.
Here, you might choose the CD/DVD drive as a boot device and could boot from the recovery DVD.

But note; This procedure would format the HARD drive too

How have you tried to install vista on the laptop?
Have you tried to switch the MCE to Vista or were you running the new clean install of Vista?

  • 700 - 147C envy: cannot change bios to boot from backup USB Acronis. Startup command problem

I tried to boot from my USB Acronis boot device to clone my C: drive to another HARD drive, but I was unable to set the boot order (first USB) because it keeps resetting & put the USB back where it was before.  I've done this before without problem; I wanted to boot from an external USB Acronis rescue disk & run the procedure to clone of it. The USB is listed in the startup as list "Sandisk Cruzer 1.27 & it's the ISO boot Acronis on this file but I failed to get the pc to boot from it.» (not this time in any case). After a needless frustration 3 hours I ran successfully clone of C: drive procedure.  I checked the clone by disconnecting the source & boot from it, but it works "BOOT PXE ON IPV4 followed by PXE BOOT ON IPV6 before it starts the clone. The startup disk is listed before the lines of IPV in the bios then why what is happening?  I disabled the 2 procedures of IPV with F5 & now it starts normally, but I do not consider this problem solved, because I have not yet able to boot from USB & I don't know why I had to disable these 2 lines.

Addendum: I revisited the right bios & reactivated 2 disabled lines & it is now booting properly, no nonsense IPV. Go figure.

As the system restore does not work, try this:

As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.

As your grave in the category above, download the ISO on the link provided and make a bootdisk of it.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.

Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.

    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/

And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

Then I saw a few posts that said he might have hardware problems and I need to contact acer... I tried to run several test to cehck if there is no hardware problem, but all the tests said no... tried something advanced startup repair, something called something memtest and also seatool if I remember correctly...

Then I found some info on the use of cmd with commands like bootrec.exe... didn't work so I tried a last thing before that wierder

    Please help... Thank you

Yes. Here's how to recover data from a disk hard when you can't get to Windows:

1 remove the drive and put it in a box of USB drive or use a USB adapter. Attach it to a computer that is running a working XP/Vista/Windows7 installation. Use the work of Windows Explorer to copy the data to the hard drive of the system to the rescue and burn data on cd or dvd, or copy it to an external hard drive. I prefer not to do it if I know the drive is infected because he has a chance to infect your host system. In these cases, I use #2 below.

    2. you can start the computer target with a Bart PE (XP only) or Linux Livecd such as Knoppix or Ubuntu and retrieve the data in this way. This has the additional advantage to tell you if the problems you are experiencing are hardware or software related because if the computer behaves perfectly in Linux, you know that Windows (software) is the culprit. Conversely, if the computer behaves badly under Linux, you will know that there is a hardware problem. This is general information on the use of Knoppix for the recovery of data when you do not have Windows:

You will need a computer with two cd records, one of which is an engraver of CD/DVD OR a USB thumb drive with enough capacity to contain your data OR an external USB hard drive. Download Knoppix .iso image file and create your bootable CD *. If you do this in a previous (XP or Vista) operating system, you will need the third burning like Nero, Roxio or freeImgBurn software (Windows 7 can burn .isos natively). Burn as an image, not in the form of data. Then boot with the CD that you created and the Windows files will be visible under Linux. If you want to burn CD/DVD, there will be a Linux burning program to use.

    * If your computer has only an optical drive and you want to use this drive to burn data or need to test drive, you can create a USB bootable Linux instead of a bootable CD. This site will show you how to do it-http://www.pendrivelinux.com

  • Cannot NOT SET of STARTUP VISTA PROBLEM(sfc/scannow)

I've been at this for the last 4 hours now and have read all similar threads on the subject, but now I think I've exhausted all my options.  Basically, I can't in my office when I turn on my PC. The first time I turn it on it goes to a screen empty and just sitting there, and when I have to power off and turn on again once, he made a startup repair, but can not solve the problem, then I send the prblem to Microsoft and then cross the recovery tools that still do not work. Im not even sure how this problem started as I visit the same sites everyday and am are beginning to wonder if one of the windows updates are causing some kind of problem. Currently I'm in the command prompt and type in sfc/scannow. Initially the first messgae I had was ' count system now. This process could take some tiem, but I get the message "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested opearation." Anybody have ideas of what to do next. Thank you.

    Hello

You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If yes you can try Control Panel
-Double click - Driver tab - click on UPDATE driver - device Manager - map - graph
then right click on the device and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

Another method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure)
is CTRL + ALT + DEL and the processes tab find EXPLORER.exe and END PROCESS on it.
then on the tab Applications - lower right - new task - the type in EXPLORER.exe. Safe mode is
accessible by tapping F8 as you start several times.

First check this thread in case it is simple and if not to come back to this thread.

Black screen problems are extremely difficult to repair and all hotfix is usually a hit or miss
base. That there is no information on a black screen as there is just a blue screen
adds to the difficulty. Often using a restore point or Startup Repair will have no effect.
You can try a google to see the proposed repairs, whom some have worked however these

For almost 3 months now, my Satellite M40 * don't power up * unless it is completely and absolutely * cold *. It freezes at the beginning.

It's a fact: the laptop is * NOT * extremely hot. Its temperatures are * regular *, I've been monitoring for some time now. If overheating is not the problem here.

-It also won't stop; it freezes again in the * ' Windows is shutting down * ' display messages... and it freezes.

-I know that another user of this forum who has had the same problem, but access to its wire has alleged that closed just because some have said of him/her to format and install the OS again. This is * NOT * a software problem! I have tried myself, for all its worth.

-Today I have updated the * BIOS * also, it has not solved anything.

So, knowing that I'm not the only one to have this kind of trouble with M40, what to do? Just buy a new one after 2 years?

    Hello Ricardo

Let's be realistic. It is really possible that software is not the problem but tell me please what you can do in such situation. Not much. In another thread, the guy wrote quite reasonable notice. All you can do is make clean OS install and hope it helps.

I agree with you that problem described is certainly hardware related issue but you can not do much and portable must be verified by the service. Using specific diagnostic tools, they can say with certainty what can be the problem.

I don't really understand your last sentence. To be honest on this forum I have seen similar topics but unrelated to the M40 and it's really pointless to understand as untimely M40.
