Store and use the XP on Win 7 machine machine files.

I want to transfer my files from my old computer with XP as its o/s on my latest machine who has Win 7 o/s. I think that the best way to get there without risk of damage to one of the files or programs on the latest system, is to create the space unallocated hard disk, partition, as well as a separate drive letter indicator. What I've done. I understand that I must format the new partition/volume, and the first and most obvious question I have is; is that correct? The other questions I have relate to Diskmanager posing questions about the formatting, and assuming that I have to format the volume, they are:

1. The file system must be selected, NTFS would be correct?

2.  Which Allocation size option should I choose. The files I transfer are mainly the .doc, .rtf, .pdf. XLS, jpg and they are not big, I was going to use as the default, but one may wonder, just in case where.

3. Should I enable file and folder Compression? The space is not really a problem, but I guess it's always a good idea to keep it as compact as possible.

I appreciate any advice on what I can get.

Thank you

Accept the default options to create a drive in the unallocated space - NTFS because it is more secure and more efficient especially if disk space on the drive is large, Allocation size default unit as this has been found to be the best mixed compromised usage.

Using compression generates a performance as there is an additional phase of compression/decompression overhead when accessing files unless disk space is at a premium or are rarely access the data there is no point.

Once you historical data on the second partition of drives, you have 2 options. You can add these additional locations to the affected library and just leave them where they are. Otherwise you need to access the files move them to the correct library to work on it. Eventually the second disc is a archive unused files.

  • HP Pavilion 14-b017cl: follow-up on creating and using the USB key recovery to win 8 after replacing the bad hard drive

I have 2 hp pavillion sleekbook model 14-b017cl'. I replaced the hard drive in my son after that she doesn't have the "optimized hard drive dst test '. I used my sleekbook work to create a USB stick recovery. I followed the instructions to use the recovery to Win 8 usb drive. When I started the laptop of my son, with the USB stick inserted, I got this message.

PXE - m0f: exit pxe rom

no bootable device-insert bootdisk and press a key

Flash player Flash when I put under tension. I rebooted, you press F2, conducted an audit on the new hard drive, happened.

Later, I inserted the recovery key in my laptop (that I used to create it) and it would not initialize to top. I checked the content to the flash drive and they seemed "Chargers", so it seems to be what I expected. It seems that the recovery USB STICK will not work if my own laptop dies. What I have to buy the HP flash drive, or I'm doing something wrong.

    Hi @gretschman7,

    Thank you for your query.

I understand you are trying to perform a recovery from a USB flash drive, but you get the error "pxe - m0f: exit pxe rom.

"no bootable device-insert bootdisk and press any".  You check the recovery media on your laptop as it is the same model and it seems fine.

Looks like you may need to change the boot sequence. Here is a link to HP - performing a recovery system (Windows 8) HP computers that will help you.   Here is a link to a YouTube video which can also help:.  Performing a recovery of HP system on a laptop HP with Windows 8.

    Hello:

Your BIOS is set to AHCI (or RAID) by default. It cannot be changed.  Look in your device manager and in the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section, look to see if there is a controller SATA ACHI he.

If so, you have an AHCI BIOS default.

If you go further down the line in Device Manager and see a section of storage controllers, click on that, you would see a SATA RAID controller and your BIOS is set to default RAID.

I don't have your model laptop so I don't know if HP has implemented some models double disk RAID or AHCI.

So... First, copy your original C:\ drive SWSetup folder and save that to a portable hard drive. That must contain all the files installation for the drivers and the software provided with your PC. You can search this folder for programs that you may want to reinstall after your new SSD drive HARD primary.

To install W7 on your SSD, check your own install of W7 disc.  Here's how:

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

  • where to find and use the (HCL) hardware compatibility list for Windows xp3

Original title: where to find and use the Windows (HCL) hardware compatibility list

    HCL for Windows xp3

That does not "response" from MS Support Engineer Umesh was particularly useless.

Unfortunately for you, the HCL XP (or Windows Catalog or Windows Marketplace or whatever it is renamed) no longer exists.  I guess Microsoft is not particularly interested in letting you know what the material is compatible with an operating system that is no longer, it sells and supports only.

The trail begins here: "the latest Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List" (314062 KB) that leads to theWindows 7 Compatibility Center.  KB 314062 is also linked to the http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/ which used to have a list of compatible with XP hardware and software, but now redirects to the Microsoft store, another dead end that XP is concerned.

If you really want to dig, your best bet is probably used the Wayback Machine (archive.org) looking for old copies of

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx - but a lot of links are broken or "not supported" unless you use Internet Explorer 6 (the message claims 6 'or more' but 8 does not work).

  • How to store and update the cache to the 2.3 OHC?

We have a few dozen workflows (CPO 2.3 process) each triggered by a single event of the tide to start. Each workflow at the outbreak extracts digital data (two or three data double-digit like for example 15, 300) from one end of point plural web service and uses the same in its workflow logic. Data extracted from each workflow is usually specific to this workflow. We want the workflow to locally cached the data thus retrieved. Reason for caching data locally to the POC: the research of web service rate is 100 + searches per second and the web service cannot evolve beyond 100 searches per second. The data thus cached will be local to this workflow.

    QUESTIONS PLEASE:

    1. What is the best way to store the data of recovery? It uses local variables or global variables or other storage mechanisms?

    2. in case the so cached data be retrieved whenever the process (workflow) is restarted?

    3. when the data is changed in the web service, the web service can return fresh data to CPO to refresh the previously cached data. What is the best way to receive these data in order to refresh the cache local to the CPO while the worklfow is running and operating [(i.e.) without disturbing the running of the workflow state]?

You will appreciate the detailed responses please avoid follow-up questions.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jamal

If the data are really local to the workflow, use a range of process definition variable.

But your options are extended definition process variables, variable global or service objectives.  Scope of the definition and global variables are almost the same, varying by what other workflows can see and set data.

  • ESX3.5U4/VC2.5 - move vmdk to adequate data store and extend the drive on the virtual machine

ESX3.5U4/VC2.5 - move vmdk to adequate data store and extend the drive on the virtual machine

Objective: move vmdk to store data with adequate storage and then increase storage D: 20G to 100G

Converter is not available on this architecture. Can I migrate cold vm to the different data store, no prob.

Question: Without use of the converter, method 3 can be used without a secondary vm? In other words, just by using target vm offline, online, offline? Or is it a problem of signing/OS disk on the Windows Virtual PC?

I need to move vmdk in different LUN and extend drive vm windows on D: (non-OS drive). Is this possible via the single procedure? Options?

To use method 3 to http://communities.vmware.com/thread/81121 requires available vm 'secondary', I did not.

Method 3? Using of vmkfstools and another VM of Windows to extend a drive

o stop the VM to resize

o log in the console ESX Server via Putty

o Type? vmkfstools? X & lt; new size of drive & gt; vmfs/volumes / & lt; storage volume name & gt;. / & lt; virtual server name & gt;. / & lt; the virtual disk name & gt;? That is to say. /vmfs/volumes/Storage1/my_vm.VMDK new disk size can be specified in kilo, mega, or gigabytes and will be the total size of the new disk. So if you want to increase a virtual disk of 20 GB of 24GO you would put 24000 m or 24g

o the second virtual machine to help stop

o change the second virtual machine settings and add the first virtual machine hard drive

o power on the second VM and load the disk management snap-in and verify that the first virtual machine disk has unallocated on it space

o select Start, run and enter diskpart.exe

o the command? the list of volume? This will show you all the volumes.

o select your volume based on the results of the list volume command, IE. ? Select volume 1?

o type the command? extend? to extend the volume

o check again the disk management snap-in and the volume is expected to be expanded with a greater ability

o stop the second VM and remove (do not remove) the record of it

o turn your first VM and the new space should be there and ready to use.

Also, I'm already aware of Dell extpar:

    http://www.RTFM-ed.co.UK/?p=1310

    http://support.Dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us & CS = 19 & l = in & s = DHS & ReleaseID = R64398 & formatcnt = 2 & starts = 83929

for VI3, vmoiton of storage is made by RCLI plugin or a 3rd party

    I prefer the plugin

    http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/articles-tutorials/VMware-ESX-articles/VMotion-DRS-high-availability/storage-VMotion-SVMotion-VI-plugin.html

In addition, if the option to increase the size of the disk in the VIC is grayed out, it sounds like a permissions issue.  Finally, you can not extend the disc using the VIC, if the customer in question has a snapshot.
