strength of router

I recently bought a new hp Pavilion wiith windows 8.je g6 laptlop have noticed lately the strength of my router is not as strong with this new laptop. The router is a Cisco Linksys WRT54G2 v1. Do ineedto upgrading to a new router and if so can I get a dose of recall for this router instead of upgradeing. Thanks Len

Hi, Len

It is difficult to say if replacing the router will improve the force wireless, but your router is obsolete and map your laptop Wireless-N Wireless.

I recommend upgrade you to one of the new Wireless-N routers Linksys, so that your laptop can at least enjoy the faster connection.

I am told that the antennas are better too (even if you don't see them on a Linksys).

You will also need to use WPA2-Personal with AES encryption to use a Wireless N card to work on Wireless N speeds.

I wouldn't take not less than this model, but which belongs to you.

And if you want to spend more, then it would be a good choice.

I have the E4200, which are older. Mine works fine.

  • Portege Z20t - B - 10 c have to reboot the router WLan

I just got my ultrabook Portégé Z20t - B - 10 c yesterday, and after using it, I noticed that when it connects to one of my Wifi networks, the strength of router reboots after about a minute - I disconnected from the internet.
There is no recurring problem with him connected to the home Wifi network, and it also works when wired.

The problem router is a Netgear N150 access point, and the issue only seems to occur when the Portege will connect to it.
Several other devices, including a Toshiba Satellite laptop, connect to the router without a problem.

I tried to update the drivers for wireless cards, but apparently they are up-to-date.
I also tried to reset the router and the problem persists.

    Can anyone help?

Just to clarify: there's nothing wrong with the laptop but with the WLan router.
    Is this right?

The Portege Z20t - B - C 10 seem to support the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 with BT module... I think that you should first check if your router and wireless network cards use the same standard (802.11 A / N / B / G etc...)
Also encryption (WPA/WPA2 AES, TKIP) as well as the settings of 20 / 40 Mhz should be checked... maybe the router will work better using different settings...

  • Number of antennas router question?  (Several gadgets WiFi using 1 router)

-My House is a 3 storey 5 bedrooms single family home.  There are 4 people living under his roof and each person has at least 3-4 items wireless who rely on our network domestic wi - fi.  Include wireless iPhone 2 of 6, 3 iPhone 5, 2 iMac (an older and a new one), 1 airbook, 1 MS Surface, 2 older laptops Apple (the old 1 "thick white), 2 iPads, Kindle 1-2, frame 1 photo wireless, 3 printers, wifi, 1 Sony PlayStation4 (via wifi) and much more.

Our current router is a double (2.5 and 5) and we use them both, and we had recently a technician change the channels, so we are not in competition with the neighbors.  The router signal strength is strong in the home to most of the places.

My question: with so many features, would be useful to have several routers with multiple antennas to accommodate this request, or made this same question?

My current router has 3 visible external antennas.  I read that the Airport Extreme has 6 internal antennas.  I'm ready to go buy Airport Extreme, if 3 additional antennas can help, or if I can use two routers for a total of 9 antennas (if this is important).

Our services to wide band is xfinity and we have one of their fastest options.  Not quite the 105, but about 80.

    Any suggestions?

Several wireless routers will tend to work better than the Gothic pulpit super multi-antenna a monster looking for router.

But they all need to be connected with the ethernet.

Read how to get excellent wireless in your House.

    http://www.SmallNetBuilder.com/basics/wireless-basics/31576-the-best-way-to-get-ensemble-Maison-sans wire-coverage

External antennas tend to be more effective than internal, but the actual number of antennas is easily overrated.

Most of the antennas used on routers now are dual band... which means inside the plastic, they have sections for the two bands... If an antenna is really two.

Our current router is a double (2.5 and 5) and we use both

Is what model exactly? Of basic etiquette please.

We had recently a technician change the channels, so we are not in competition with the neighbors.  The router signal strength is strong in the home to most of the places.

It would have been correct for the first 5 minutes after the technician left the House and then totally out of place. Channel of all the equipment that surrounds you change every day, every hour... maybe every 5 min. While I don't disagree with fixing channel... others would say that it should be left on auto. You gain nothing much at all.

If the signal strength is good over a 3-storey house, you are incredibly lucky.

You can't effectively add routers more unless you install ethernet to provide an infrastructure for data streams.

  • added a new router

    Hello

I use my Time Capsule for 4 or 5 years now and it has worked pretty well. Yesterday, I swapped a modem provided by my company and I also got a new router from them (Sagemcom Fast 3260cv). I put everything in place with the new modem and the router. I am using their channel 5G. Time Machine couldn't find the backup disk until I plugged the Capsule on the router. The flashing yellow light went green and I could make backups.

My question is, are there downsides to do things this way? As far as I know, I use the 5G for all my internet activity and the connection network wireless to my Time Capsule for my backups. This seems to be ideal. Now, I won't have to worry about backups on my internet bandwidth, although I suppose that the bandwidth of the MacBook Pro to the time Capsule will take a piece out of it, or will it? I guess the Time Capsule will not need to access the internet and instead just start over and set up to be only a backup unit, Time Capsule by plugging right on the router I can make it work.

I read a little about changing the Time Capsule in Bridge mode. Requiring from anywhere in my backups?

Is it a problem to have two networks in the House? The new router and the Capsule are right next to each other. (To be honest, I'm a little worried by the router sitting on top of the time Capsule that time Capsule remains warm enough. So, I even a plate isolating (a real plate) below electronics below are not affected by the heat.

In addition, the cable operator said that the open network providing their router will not affect my bandwidth and that anyone using it (I see 17 networks using iStumbler, most have no signal strength, but some are equal to mine. (Mine readings 77% for 5 G and it is about 8 feet away and online direct from my MacBook Pro...) In any case, I guess it's ok to have the open network. I asked l ' switch off, but they say I can't do that. I do not need it...

    Thus, a lot of questions.

    Thanks for any help.

    See you soon,.

    John L

I read a little about changing the Time Capsule in Bridge mode. Requiring from anywhere in my backups?

You have a lot of questions, scattered through... I'll answer has some time and come back.

You must never start backups due to the configuration of TC... Although you may lose the connection to the backup and the need to reconnect... which is sometimes delicate. TM will say that he will start a new backup and then discover the existing one.

Changes on behalf of transport CANADA will TM to lose the connection but should reconnect for backups.

A change of name of the computer will TM now start a new backup. (Although this is not 100%).

I'm a bit worried by the router sitting on top of the time Capsule that time Capsule remains warm enough.

    Never stack network routers...

Separate them by about 1 M.

    Train wireless or heat problems.

There is nothing wrong with the execution of multiple wireless networks... There is a big problem, stack one on top of the other wireless routers.

The best idea is to run ethernet to a room where you need more wireless and locate the TC it.

In addition, the cable operator said that the open network providing their router will not affect my bandwidth

It is bulldust ISP... I will come back more... Anon.

  • Tecra M2 and wireless network - signal strength problem

    Need advice buying wireless kit.

I have a DSL phone line connection and I am currently using a Speedtouch USB modem connected to my workstation down.

I have a laptop Toshiba Tecra M2 with construction of wireless support. I want to be able to share the internet connection which comes in the workstation down. I guess that my options for the workstation are to use a DSL wireless modem to share the internet connection or to use a PCI card in my computer. I tried them both.

I first tried to set up an infra mode network with the laptop using a LinksysWAG54G which was connected to the telephone line and a computer. But the problem with that I was t couldn't do accept the subnet mask that my ISP (Lixxus) provided 255.255.255.255 (PPoA). This modem has all the masks of SN in a dropdown list, but mine isn't in this list. I returned this modem.

I tried then set up an adhoc network purchase buy a PCI Wireless card for my desktop, and internet connection sharing etc. on the workstation. However, while it worked, and I could see the desktop of my laptop, the problem has been the wireless range. The signal disappear when I wore the laptop in the back room on the first floor. It would have been a distance of 10 meters in a straight line between the laptop and desktop. There are walls two bricks and a floor between the two machines. It seemed hopeless, so I sent the PCI card.

I'm not sure what to try next.

Any suggestions that I could try next?

Signal strength - could the problem be that the antenna in portable insufficient Tosh - it too small?

    Hello

I have the same situation at home. The best solution for this is to use the wireless router. Here you have the possibility to connect several computers desktop or laptop. In this case the configuration of wireless connection is very easy and it works fine. I also use it at home and in front of my house with no problems.

  • Satellite A210-171 - unable to connect to any access point or router

Hello. I don't know that this is the right forum. Not something I do normally but since I am desperate to solve this problem, I'll give it a shot.

So I bought a Toshiba Satellite A210-171 nearly a year ago. It has a built-in wireless driver.

The problem is, however, I can't seem to connect to any access point or router. What I end up getting most of the time are so a message saying that I am connected but with limited connectivity which means I can't access the internet. At other times, the network in range will appear in my network list, (with a signal strength excellent), but once I have select a message appears saying that the connection attempt has failed. And at other times my laptop detects the network connection and functions smoothly.

I do not understand of course. So if someone could explain to me why my laptop selects and selects Wireless connections, that it connects and how I can solve this problem, I would be grateful!

    Thanks in advance

    Laughing out loud
Why do you want to receive the signal of your neighborhood?

Unfortunately, you can boost the signal t. This is possible on the router directly and there is no improvement for the wireless network adapter.

  • Signal strength and range of the latest wifi routers

I have a big house, with my router (BT home hub) in a wiring closet in a laundry room. The House is wired for ethernet and my current Wi - Fi, a Netgear WPN802, is placed at the best discreet place in the House. It is quite visible from everywhere in the House, the signal is quite low in some places.

If I replace it with a common Netgear router, switched to AP mode, I see a significant improvement in the strength of signal and the beach? Smartphones, tablets and streaming music boxes (Sonos) are the usual wifi customers.

In general, with one exception, hand-off is controlled by the device. On devices where the roaming aggressiveness can be adjusted, usually of the laptops and PC with Wi - Fi cards, it is sometimes possible to do hand-off low impact, but it is often neither transparent nor without interruption. I walk often so, personally, that this is not a matter of my house with my laptop streaming.

However, smartphones often do not have adjustable settings of roaming aggressiveness, but it is precisely the devices with which we want to transfer transparent. My old iPhone 5 was terrible to homelessness at home and at work.

If you install a second WAP in your House, don't expect transparent transfers. But, as I said, it's usually to the device.

I talked to an exception almost, and perhaps two. One is that there is a connection Wi - Fi standard 802.11r called which rudder hand fast shipment. I don't think that any consumer connection Wi - Fi gear to implement. Two is that Ubiquiti Networks offers an exclusive feature called discount zero where several Ubiquiti APs can work together in the hand-off a device between them. I don't know which of their products offer this feature, but my guess is that they are not cheap. The disadvantage of this feature is that all points of access must use the same channel Wi - Fi (they do all access points appear as an access point). It is not so good, if you have many Wi - Fi devices and need a lot of bandwidth. It is a compromise between speed and reliability.

I would recommend that you try one of the higher end Netgears with external antennas. If you are happy with your current router and only need an AP, consider the EX7000. It is marketed as a wireless extension, but it is also usable as a wired access point. It'll be cheaper than the R7000. But if you want to improve your router, then the R7000 is an excellent choice. I have one and it covers almost my entire House, 2 storeys.

    Hello

I had a similar problem that I couldn't t connect to my router with my new laptop, but the solution is easy enough: on my WLAN access point I enabled MAC address filtering here I must add my new laptop. After that, it was possible to connect! :)
    Check this box!

Last but not least make sure also that you are getting an IP address from your router.

This doesn't seem to be a signal problem because when the router is found that I get a signal strength full 5 bars. Connection to the laptop the router with a cable shows that no problem also that the connection and internet access is no problem.

    Hi Potter (maybe Harry?)  ;)

You can easily find what WiFi card has been installed in your laptop.
More details can be found in the *-> network adapters Device Manager *.
Check this out and you'll know what driver WLan is required!

  • R7000 as router with the router for mobile broadband Internet

Hey guys. First of all, my apologies for my somewhat inadequate English skills. Secondly, I am brand new to the community, so apologies in advance for any fault :-) Third stop, apologize for having a complete beginner :-D

So, for the issue: I recently bought a router top mobile broadband 4G (4 G MBR) to my apartment, because of the gap of strength and speed signal very low quality of the cable to the ground on my Street (fiber is to come next year).

But the router provided by my operator isn't on par with my router R7000 Nighthawk when he comes to reach wifi, wifi speed, number of outputs of LAN and power of the processor.

So, I want to use my R7000 my router, the internet signal from the air to the 4G MBR, then by cable to the WAN of the R7000.
In other words; I want to just 4G MBR to simply pass / transfer the internet signal to my nighthawk R7000 router so I can use the R7000 as my router, LAN and wifi.

How can I set this up?

    Thanks for your help!

Update: the MBR has been no help at all. As far as I could tell, there is no possibility to bridge or pass-through mode. The R7000, as she does the work. I just put it in AP mode, adjust all the wired connections DHCP/auto IP assign and everything works great.
