Suggerimenti per ESXi

STO configurando by the prima volta Server ESXi (vSphere Hypervisor 5 U1), UN ho lavorato con VMware Workstation sempre e mi rendo conto che the cose non sono Così immediate.

I would therefore dei suggerimenti e some re a delle guide da leggere.

Mio server it ha 2 brain da 500 GB in RAID1 e 4 brain configurati da 1 TB che pero mi sono gia stati configurati come UN disco da 1, 8 GB (RAID5) ed da terzo UN 900 GB (RAID5).

ESXi Ho da sul RAID1 pensavo di utilizzare e he VMFS by conservare delle VM offline.

MI stavo pero wondering is mi conveniva clear I due brain da solo uno e of the RAID5 crearne / 3GB.

By backs up mi orientavo some tools by Pagnotta the VM back knew an external NAS e quindi pensavo di creare una VLAN associata ad una delle due knew MB, while the other 4 utilizzerei per creare delle VLAN da associare esterni to the switch substitutes any server.

No ho e ESXi host by the uso al massimo gestione altri a couple of customer.

Rather it mio problema più grosso e che a volte devo portarmi in the giro a few VM e quindi migrarle ROM known una Workstation 8 (just available passo della 10), my seems di understand che non mi basta spostarle.

Grazie per I suggerimenti.

Ciao,.

avevo capito che I brain sono software, tranquillo, altrimenti I conteggi degli hard drive not there have. Chiamali g siamo tutti Così a posto

preoccupazioni di corruzione, any componente di riguardo (sia esso disco of it, I have raid, the partition table o I dati ospitati) ti con selection I backup, not this sono altre soluzioni. Corruzione del dato una non correggi con even 20 brain di parita o thousand separate partizioni, if corrupt e basta. Vai IOC Backup.

By WS-> ESXi, registri in WS there e ESXi server here you can send the vm crei localmente che con WS, tutto him fa in automático.

  • Logical processors against vCPUs per ESXi host

    Hello

I am watching the host ESXi Configuration of maximum and to matters that I don't know what's the distinction between the logical processors for each ESXi host (160) and vCPUs per ESXi host (2048). Any explanation is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Hmm...

    OK I'll try to explain.

1LCPU can be pinned to several virtual machines.

If I have 1 quad core CPU, I have 4 LCPUs

I can create as many virtual machines

    (1) 1 VM with vcpus 1

    (2) 1 VM with 2 vcpus

    (3) 1 VM with 4 vcpus

1st VM will be pinned to 1 LCPU.

2nd VM will be pinned on the 2nd, 3rd LCPU.

3rd VM will be pinned to LCPU 1,2,3,4.

If the processor reqquest comes from 1 VM and VM 3rd at the same time, she will be the process queue and do accordingly!

I hope you have it now!

  • Cannot create the OpenStack deployment. Not enough memory

Target management and to calculate the bunches have free 2 TB, but I can't get VIO 2.5 to deploy. In the Wizard error message is "unable to create the OpenStack deployment. Not enough storage for (VIO-DB-0). At least 552 GB of storage is necessary to place all nodes... ». In my case, the two groups already have VM is deployed and release notes indicate that available resources may not be reported correctly.  Any thoughts? Thank you, dude64

I have 8 processors per ESXi host. I found it was getting hung up on the shared storage that is available within the cluster 3 node. Installation seems to use local storage only for DB nodes and prefers a shared storage exists for all other nodes in my setup. My storage shared initially was lower than the GB 552 required deployment of VIO was looking for. Once I replaced the shared storage with 1 TB of storage shared and removed the old shared storage devices, it finally proceeds to install. I grep had vio newspapers who were not really useful to determine the cause, which would have been nice to receive an error message more accurate and better yet better docs all about know her requirements, i.e. local and shared storage. It would also be nice to see a doc on logging and the ansible playbook info. I'll mark this as answered.

    Thank you, dude64

  • Maximum VCPU

    Hi all

    I have the following Setup

    Intel xeon CPU

    2.3 GHz processor speed

    Socket CPU 2

    Core processor for socket 4

    Hyper Threading enabled

Logical processor = 2 Sockets physical * 4 cores per socket * 2 (from HT active) = 16 logical processors

The calculation above, I understand that 1 - VM can have a maximum of 16 vCPU.

What is the maximum vCPU limit?

Is there any report of rule of thumb (Ex 01:12 or 1:8)

    16 * 8 = 128 (where VM 128 I can create at least 1vCPU)

  • Limited to 8 cores per VM 5.5 ESXi?

Im running the free version of ESXi 5.5 and appear to be limited to 8 cores per VM.

Y at - it a license to push this limit to 16 or 32 cores? Im running on a HP DL980 with 128 cores and don't want to create 16 different VM to allocate all 128 cores.

If there is a license, how much it costs?

You are running the latest version of ESXi 5.5?  If you run Update 2, you will be able to upgrade to version 10 (power off the virtual machine, right-click and the possibility to upgrade virtual hardware will be there.)

  • ESXi 5: how vCpu per vm instead of 32?

    Hello

We would like to migrate our server ESX 4 to version 5 (business and license).

I know, pdf max configuration, we can have the max 32 vcpus per vm... But that is all the options available?

In ESX 4, we can we 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 vcpu... but on ESXi 5?

    Thanks in advance

I believe you can - but since you have only 32 logical processors (2 x 8 cores x 2 HT) I wouldn't recommend it - by stacking the vCPUs you run a high risk of CPU contention - I usually make you that number of LCPUs is double, the largest number of vCPUs in a VM.

    Hi all

    I w B420M3 4CPU / 1240 Port Expander + 1280 + IOM ESXi 2208 + 5.5

based on my understanding, I should get 40 GB + 40 + 40 GB of total bandwidth of 40 GB = 160 GB per blade, see attached schema.

How vNIC must be created in the service profile in order to reach the 160 GB of bandwidth?

If 4 vNIC, how should vNIC/vHBA be mapped to Vcons(4)?

    Thanks in advance.

Correct: 80 full duplex G by fabric

    My 2 c

-between each I/O and IOM adapter, there is a pc 4 10 links; Therefore, by stream, you have a 10G limitiation

-consider the oversupscription to the North, the IOM - FI and FI Northbound

-with 2 I/O adapters, you have 2 vCON

-If you create vnic, use manual placement to assign them to fabric or B and vCON 1 and 2.

    -min number of vnic is 4 (vCON has 1 & 2 fabric, (vCON 1 & 2 fabric)

You assign the IP address to a VMkernel, not the network adapter interface. The VMkernel interface resides within the virtual switch, and the redundancy of the network, you should have at least two NICs per virtual switch. I recommend that you take a look at the network configuration of your current hosts and keep the same setting for the new.

    2. this question is not meant to ask here.

It depends on. Depends on each type of connector you have beside storage and switch, I think it will be LC... in any case you can only need to add new cables just because you add a new blade. I recommend that you check with the SAN administrator to check if this is really necessary or not.

  • ESXi 6.0 U1 host high CPU (climbing slowly) but VM idle

I have ESXi 6.0 Update 1 (Build 3029758) installed on new equipment (Atom C2750, 16 GB of RAM).

VM is Solaris 11.0 with 1 vCPU and 4 GB of RAM.  Solaris was installed from floor-11-1111-text - x 86 .iso without any additional configuration except to install VMware Tools.

After you start the VM the CPU host shows inactive (12 MHz), but he's slowly climbing 10% per day (240 MHz per day) until she reaches about 95%, while the virtual machine itself becomes unresponsive, however said ESXi virtual machine still works fine.  At each stage the VM reports always that it is inactive.  Restart the virtual machine makes the host CPU to idle (12 MHz) and the slow rise begins again.

In case anyone is wondering, I use Solaris 11.0 because we want to use ZFS with physical RDM to create a NAS for this virtual machine.  Unfortunately, Solaris 11.1 (and above) + physical RDM = purple ESXi screen (see Bug report: 11.1 Solaris + RDM = screen ESXi 5.1 violet).  Apparently, this problem was supposed to be fixed in ESXi 5.5 but still there in ESXi 6.0U1.  I tested (physical RDM + ESXi 6.0U1 + 11.1 Solaris) and (ESXi 6.0U1 11.3 Solaris + physical RDM).  The two combinations result in purple screen.

It is interesting however, Solaris 11.1 (and above) without physical RDMs does NOT suffer from the slow rise of above host CPU utilization.  So, either I cope with a rise in CPU host weird or purple screens :-(

In case anyone has the same problem, I solved this superuser.com class.

    http://superuser.com/questions/1024292/ESXi-6-0-U1-Solaris-11-0-VM-host-CPU-high-slowly-climbing-but-VM-idle

In summary, the root cause was a storm of interruption in my Solaris 11.0 VM due to an incompatibility between ESXi and Solaris 11.0 interrupt timing mode.  Add the following line to/etc/System on the Solaris VM solved the problem.

    Set pcplusmp:apic_timer_preferred_mode = 0x0

  • ESXi 5.5 CPU allocation issues

I did a lot of reading about how Esxi manages operating system reviews all hearts. It seems that everywhere wherever I look the common practice is to give 1 core on the guest operating system (or 2 if demand can take advantage or a program tops out at a kernel, the system can still be responsive)

But realworld I see something completely different. I have a 6172 Opteron that is 24 hearts. 2.10 ghz. I have a generic windows installation 2012 and when I give it 2 hearts and say that it runs of prime95, it uses only about 4 ghz esxi, but when I turn and give it 8 cores it uses 16 ghz. Which is the opposite of what I read everywhere, where subscribe too many carrots will cause a delay and reduce performance. I have not messed with the CPU reservations or limitations. If something is wrong with my settings of the bios for the CPU? or not this CPU virtualizes not correctly? In any case, my request is really for 1 OS to do all the heavy loads of the CPU and the other just operating systems support it, but with my current license, I can only give 8 cores per host. Makes me feel like, I won't be able to get full implementation of my material.

Thanks for any insight of this.

I don't know what your expecting to see, it does not work as expected.  Your getting the performance that you should rely on the number of cores allocated to the VM * the base clock speed.  CPU scheduling can result in poor performance that is often created by too many vms that were too many vcpus assigned that they actually need to run the workload.    If only you have access to 8 cores and plan to run only 2 vm - 1 heavy, 1 light with respect to the use of the CPU, you can always set a have 6 hearts and the other a 2.  Depends on the cpu of your app usage profile, you can even get away with 2 and 1. It is advisable to start with hearts as little as possible.

If you currently have the application physical Kit, you should really graphic it or use something like capacity planner.  If you can afford it, I would swap your out CPU for a 3 + Ghz 8core or you loose carrots.
