Supported satellite R830-182 and SSD

Anyone know if there is news of SSD in Toshiba laptops?

I ask because I have a Satellite R830-182 and I recently purchased an OCZ Agility 4 and it is not detected by the BIOS.

I tried all the tricks in the book including the BIOS upgrade and switching between AHCI/IDE.

Research online, find posts on this topic.
The general consensus seems to be that Toshiba has actively chosen not to support other than their own brand SSDs. Is this true? And if so, is that still the case?

Someone suggested that [by pressing Pause | https://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=244444𻫜] before entering the BIOS would help.
Has anyone tried this before?
Not sure that it is a viable long-term solution.

Any other thoughts/advice on this?

I have Toshiba laptop and I could upgrade the laptop with a SSD 250 GB from another manufacturer. One of my friends with Toshiba Satellite laptop also use another brand of SSD 2.5 drive.

But the fact is that the problems of compatibility between different devices (not always SSDS but other modules PCI as well) can happen and its nothing unusual in the world of large computing.

As far as I know that some R830 models are equipped with a ' Solid State Drive (SSD) instead of a hard drive. Type of SSD SATA 2.5 "SSD SATA type 256/512 GB and 1.8" 128 GB must be compatible. "
But its also a matter of SSD drive firmware. In many cases firmware drive SSD can be not BIOS supported.
In this case the SSD drive would not be recognized correctly.

    Hello

SATA-III was introduced in Sandy Bridge chipset (Intel with the 2nd generation 6 series I have Core CPU).

You can install a diagnostic software hardware such as Sandra Software or Everest Home Edition for all the info on the hardware installed in your laptop.

  • Satellite R830-182 - cooling fan runs constantly

    Hello

I just bought the R830-182. The fan runs at 100% of the time, from that moment I start. Is it true, that I expect the fan on a laptop to kick when the CPU reaches a certain temperature? It's annoying because it's quite noisy. Also try running the laptop at the lowest possible power - no software no open, WIFI turned off, the management of the standby power battery, the screen brightness turned down etc nothing works.

Someone out there with the same model knows if it is a problem or simply how this laptop it is supposed to work?

Try it please change settings option method of cooling. You can find it in power advanced options for the management of the power supply you use.
Assign the Please optimized battery option. It should reduce the activity of fan cooling.

  • Satellite R830-182-Bluetooth/WiFi issues

I had two problems with my R830 using the Atheros AR9002WB-1NG who are driving me crazy.

First of all, I don't get by wifi download speeds when connecting to my BT Home Hub 3. I have BT Infinity (approx. 40Meg d/l) but I get only about half as in other laptops, the elderly are much much faster. The laptop R830 doesn't seem to connect to 802.11n but did to 802.11 g (54 Mbit/s) and there is no way to force it to do otherwise.

Also, when I use a headset Jabra Bluetooth wifi disconnects after a minute or so until I turn off Bluetooth. It then seems to sugest that the laptop has lost security settings (which is not the case). All very strange.

I've updated the drivers and battery bios etc etc, but to no avail.

    Any ideas please?

    Hello

    > Portable R830 doesn't seem to connect to 802.11n, but made to 802.11 g (54 Mbit/s) and there is no way to force it to do otherwise.

Atheros AR9285 supports the standard 802.11 b, G and N, so you should be able to connect to 802.11 wireless network N.
I recommend the options in Device Manager-> card WLan-> properties-> Advanced tab of audit

Here, you have to choose 802.11 N

    > Also, when I use a headset Jabra Bluetooth wifi disconnects after a minute or so until I turn off Bluetooth. It seems to sugest that the laptop has lost security settings

The Atheros Wlan card compatible with WiFi and BT
By using the Fn + F8 key combination you can switch between WiFi and BT
    Please check

In addition, you must make sure that the Wlan driver is up-to-date.

    Hello world

I recently bought a R830-182 (detailed configuration below).

My University gives us an upgrade to windows 7 ultimate edition, but I had to do a clean install (from inside Windows 7 Home Edition, copy the upgrade you can do).
The key, with what they gave me would not work with the Windows anytime upgrade utility.

I think that I have installed everything that I need to get the laptop to work, but I'm not sure of the configuration of the battery. The cooling fan seems to be always on, and when the battery reaches 100% charge that he also said that he is in charge.

    My questions are:
    1. is there another program I have to install to allow the computer manage settings of the battery?
    2. do I need to change some settings in the power options?
3 should. what settings I change in power options?

    Can I do it?
If I can, can what Pentium M I install on my motherboard?
    Please answer me.

    Sebastian K., from the Poland

    Hello

Well, in general it of not possible to upgrade the processor.
Some processors are fixed mounted on the motherboard.
In addition, the processors used in laptops are connected to the motherboard using a process called TCP (tape carrier package). It is a permanent connection method and is used in the interest of miniaturization and heat dissipation

    Just for info:
I found some Satellite L20 units which are supplied with different processors.
    For example:
    Satellite L20-204 Intel-Pentium-M (Dothan) 750 1.86GHz
    Satellite L20-214 Intel-Pentium-M (Dothan) 740 1.73GHz

  • Satellite R830 - support Sata III for SSD drives

    Hello

Why Toshiba Satellite R830 does not support Sata III, although the plug to motherboard. indicate that it is possible?

So you can not significantly increase the performance of your laptop by replacing the HARD drive with disk SSD Sata III. Is it possible to activate the Sata III (6 Mbps) on R830?

All the system settings? It's also kind of bios update request necessary support SSD and SATA III...

    Any help is appreciated! :)

    > It shows that SATA III is supported, but when you install the SSD SATA III disc it does not work with higher speeds to ~ 250 MB/s (cases Crucial M4).

From my own experience many SSD readers need a updated firmware that is provided by the manufacturers of SSD drives.

But readers in the R830 SSD seems to support these specifications:
    Host interface: Max 300 MB/s
Reading data supported: Max 250 MB/s
Writing data supported: Max 160 MB/s

By the way: the R830 supports a Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset and the chipset supports the storage interface high speed supports up to 6 Gb/s transfer rate for improved data access. Provides up to 6 SATA ports, 3 Gb/s with up to 2 ports support 6 Gb/s transfer rate.

  • Questions from the screen and keyboard on Satellite R830-181

    Hello

    I had exactly the same problem with it;
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=280934

I also explained what is it and how it over time in this topic.

To sum up; my screen and keyboard do not work in my Toshiba Satellite R830-181, 13.3 '' laptop.

    My questions;
    1. is it a motherboard problem?

    2. as it runs on an external monitor, I guess that the graphics card or processor is fine.
There is no damage on the screen, so I guess there is a problem with the connection of the power supply to the screen.

If I buy a new screen I have my doubts it will work.

I'll probably send it to the service tech in my country (hard to find here reliable technology services Toshiba), however, I would like to know what may be the cause and if I can fix it myself.

What do you think guys? It is a power issue or a problem with the monitor itself?
If a power issue or something else rather than the screen, how can be fixed?
Same question applies to the keyboard.

    3. If I repair or fix myself, you think it will happen again? Because I think that this could be a faulty laptop computer of a certain series of production since someone else has experienced the same thing with this model.

can 4 - there be a relationship between the non-functional keyboard and screen?

    5. If this can be resolved with a replacement of the screen, that I need to find a laptop screen Toshiba R830 or I can buy any 13.3-inch screen?

As far as I know this model is not supported by the company more, so it is quite difficult to find a screen R830.
It is difficult to find a 13.3-inch screen, anyway, but still, if I can use the screen of another model which would ease my problems.

I need an idea on that.
    Thanks :)

    > 1 - is it a motherboard problem?
Not easy to say: If the external monitor works correctly then this isn't problem chart/motherboard.
The external USB keyboard works properly, if not motherboard problem too.

    > 2 - because it works on a monitor external I guess graphics card or processor is fine.
    Yes, that's correct.

    > If I buy a new screen I have my doubts it will work.
I do not recommend to buy the new parts before the defective parts has not been verified.

    > I'll probably send it to the service tech in my country (hard to find here reliable technology services Toshiba), however, I would like to know what may be the cause and if I can fix it myself.
Good idea to send it to Toshiba service partner since the guys would be able to control parts and fix it.

    > What do you think guys? It is a power issue or a problem with the monitor itself?
If a power issue or something else rather than the screen, how can be fixed?
    > Same question goes for the keyboard.

Don t think someone can tell exactly what's causing this according to me its just a bad luck material can start malfunction happens in every possible branch of industries (TV, computer, smartphone, cars)

can > 4 - there be a relationship between the non-functional keyboard and screen?
No, the keyboard is only connected to the motherboard, display is also connected to the motherboard, but there is no connection between the keyboard and the display.

  • Satellite R630-155 - fan is too loud and SSD update

I am the owner of a Toshiba Satellite R630-155 (Core i5-480). My problems are:

    1. the fan is too loud and never stops. In normal operation (navigation and General Office work) there is a constant high pitch noise which is audible three to four meters in a desktop - high load environment, you just can't take it anymore! The fan never stops... even when you do nothing...

    2. the heat is a big problem. The bottom of the laptop is overheated constantly and I have to place on my desk so that the lower left corner is outside the table, so it can breathe fresh air from below - otherwise, the temperature rises and the (noisy) fan is unable to follow. When I work with the laptop sitting on a couch, I place a thick book between the laptop and my legs. The book must be thick (more than one inch) with hard covers, otherwise the heat going through the book!

    3. last (but not least, I will mention the biggest problems here) that's the problem with the installation of the SSD. I bought a used Corsair F80 (80 GB SSD) from a friend, but I was unable to use it with the Toshiba - BIOS not detect the disc. I tried to install all the latest updates for portable and SSDS but I had no success. Then I put the disc and I bought a brand new Zalman 128 GB SSD (SSD0128N1 Sandforce) but I had exactly the same problem. I contacted my local support Toshiba and after much conversation, the only answer I got is that the laptop is not compatible with these SSDS, and it is acceptable by Toshiba and not their problem. They told me that if I need an SSD upgrade I cannot go for the Toshiba SSD that is installed on the portege series, which is sold by Toshiba for a ridiculously expensive price - about $500 for 128 GB. I contacted the European support center and I got the same exact answer. I searched the Internet and found someone else with exactly the same problem with a Corsair 128 GB SSD - he concluded that the laptop detects the SSD after ten to twenty resets. I tried and it was true - after a lot of restarts the detected disk Zalman laptop and I was able to successfully install Windows 7, but the process is unacceptable. Also the drive is rated by the sites official at the speed of an OCZ Vertex 2 128 GB (and a little better), but when I ran a cue point in the Toshiba, the results I got were less than half of the advertised speed. Same reference in another machine of the same disc, resulted in the announced speeds.

Shame for Toshiba...-beautiful design and portability, but all the rest is a big flaw. Their support in non-existent and they do not appreciate their customers. According to me, they stole my money and I will never buy a Toshiba laptop again.

Sorry for the big message, but I need, I warn potential customers. Can anyone help me with any of these problems? You also have the same problems?

    To follow...

    Hey Buddy,

With regard to the issue of fan and the heat: you did it BIOS update? A friend told Satellite R630 too and he told me that the fan with the new BIOS version 2.10 activity is reduced. In addition, the laptop is colder than before so I recommend to install this update. You can download the update of the BIOS here:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

But before you start the update of the BIOS, you should consider the following tips:
-Run update as an administrator only
-Unzip all files from zip archive before launching the update file
-Close all running programs as the antivirus and firewall
-Make sure the battery is fully charged

With regard to the SSD it s still a little complicated to install 3rd party products and no one can guarantee that these parts would not work. You're always on the side safely with original spare parts from Toshiba.

All you can do is to install the new firmware for SSDS and hope that it works, but who knows maybe the BIOS update will help you also in this case ;)

With "upgrades" Windows 8 and 8.1 (do not do it at all!), my Bluetooth seems to have disappeared and Windows tells me to reinstall the drivers.

When I go to the page for download driver Toshiba support for my Satellite R830 - 1-1 (PT32LE-01V00CEN), I see 'Bluetooth filter package for Atheros Driver' and 'Bluetooth Stack Toshiba Windows 8 - Upgrade '.

My laptop has Intel wireless card as I guess all of this model have, so why is listed Atheros?

I'm afraid I have no idea what I need to install to get my Bluetooth works again. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    > My laptop has Intel wireless card as I guess all of this model have, so why is listed Atheros?
Because different models of Satellite R830 supports different Wlan cards from different manufacturers.

    > I'm afraid I have no idea what I need to install to get my Bluetooth works again. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Your laptop supports the network adapter Intel wireless (with feature of BT). For cards Intel WLan no Bluetooth filter package must be installed.
In your case its just to install the Intel Wlan driver, battery Toshiba Bt and the Toshiba system driver

I also want to improve the ram memory, the laptop has only 1 slot 4 GB ddr3 1600 mhz, but is single channel. Which model should I buy to work in dual channel I use cpu-z to identify the model and it shows me hmt451s6mfr8a do I need exactly this or I can put another ty of manufacturing 2.

This upgrade with SSD is not supported by Toshiba, so everything you do is at your risk. Check this forum please. If I m remembering although some people have already posted own experiences.
I think that in most cases they ordered this caddy HDD/SSD but the drive was not recognized at all.

In my opinion, you must perform these updates.

    RAM
Up to 16 GB of RAM according to specification for laptop, you can put on level and on the lower part under the cover of memory, you should find two memory locations. How to change RAM is described in s. manuals check please page 72.

The CPU usage of my laptop shoots upward to 25% (and beyond) and increases in fan speed considerably after waking up, but only when I use an external mouse (Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000) - disconnect the mouse once it happened does not solve the problem, so I always have to restart my computer if I let go sleep with the connected mouse.

I noticed that when this produces the system interrupts - delayed appeals procedure and Interrupt Service routine appears in the resource monitor > CPU > process and seems to explain the increase in the use of the processor.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem would be most appreciated.

I use a Toshiba Satellite R830 1GZ with Windows 7 (64-bit). This problem will not occur when I use the same mouse with another laptop (Dell with Windows XP).

I think that the process that controls the mouse MS WLan does not close properly.
The system to memorize it and therefore the cooling module begins to spin faster because these processes stressed the central unit.

Maybe its caused by the mouse driver

  • Support for Windows 10 on Satellite R830

    Hello

I checked the Toshiba´s Web site and apparently Satellite R830 is not in the list of expandable devices to win 10.

It's just a matter of time until Toshiba prepares the necessary drivers, or is it a definitive policy?

I found in other forums some attempts to modernize the network... but it would be nice to hear some experiences and plans here

    Thank you

Even if the laptop is not listed on the site Web of Toshiba Windows 10, this does not mean that you can not install Windows 10.

But the fact is that Windows 10 drivers and Toshiba Software is not available for this model of laptop... it might be possible that some mobile features like the FN buttons work properly, but you can try to install the Windows 10 drivers / tools at the other series notebook that could solve the problem...

So don't be worried that the unit is not officially model Win 10 taken in charge... This isn't really a reason NOT to use the system... you know...
