Synchronization of constantly & long term internet time servers

I spent countless hours trying to surf the web and try to possible solutions to achieve this.  For some time, with the relatively recent launch of the Microsoft forum site, I see that many people seem to have this problem.  The final solution I see on many cases composed of a sequence of steps of command line to activate the service on the local computer time.  However, I have not seen anything to indicate that the synchronization with an external time source is accomplished.  If anything, the Event Viewer appears to show that something is wrong.  I see several messages a day associated W32Time, always in pairs:

1. the time provider NtpClient could not find a domain controller to use as a time source. NtpClient will try again within minutes XXXX.

2. the time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible.  No attempt to contact a source will be for 239 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time.

Furthermore, I've never seen success messages when you go to the properties of the Date and time Panel despite trying all the servers (ten?) that I read several times in my web searches.

I ask myself "How is it possible that a standardized protocol fails to work constantly for so many people and so many servers?  Is it plausible for all servers to malfunction so much of the time, or is the Protocol specified so weakly that it is impossible to get consistent interoperability?

I tried probably everything that anyone can post a link to, so it's more a survey question to see if there is no sign there of constant and persistent operation of the.  It would be useful to know if there such success has been achieved in, say, Linux.  This could at least give a vague suspicion about if the servers and/or protocol is the problem, or the implementation of sync Windows (or maybe the infeasibility to properly use these services by users who are not experts in the field).

Hello

Your Windows XP question is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the IT Pro TechNet public.
Please post your question in the TechNet Windows XP Technet Forums.

  • Function 'Internet time' will automatically refresh after reboot - please help

    I can't get the "Internet time" auto time update function system after restarting the computer in windows 7.  He should tell me when the next synchronization will happpen, but this isn't unless I do it manually by clicking on the button update.  Then he went after the reboot.

    Example: If I click on the clock at the bottom right of the screen and then select "Change date and time settings" and then click on the tab "Internet time" he says: "this computer is configured to synchronize automatically with"time.nist.gov.  Then on the next line, he says: "this computer is configured to synchronize automatically on a regular basis.   However, I checked that he never does that.  Or he tells me when he is going to do.

    To temporarily solve the problem, I click on the "Edit settings" button and then click on 'Update Now' and he said, "the clock has been properly synchronized with time.nist.gov on 15/03/2010 at 22:25" for example. I press OK.  So far so good.  Now the tab "Internet time" has a line that reads, "next synchronization 16/03/2010 at 02:25.  Which is 4 hours later, because the specialpollvalue registry variable is set for 4 hours.

    THIS IS WHAT I WANTED!  But the next time I restart the computer and check under the tab "Internet time", it comes back again tell me what is the next synchronization.  And the problem comes back to where it will not refresh automatically.   So reboot he kills.  All this works fine on another computer with XP.  But on a new, clean installation of windows 7 that is not.  Am I missing something?  Is there a setting I need to adjust so that it can stay active after restarting?

  • A USB at low prices is not acceptable for long-term backup storage?

    I'm close to the graduation of my night school. Subsequently, I plan to upgrade my MCSA & MCDST MCITP and MCTS certifications. I use the ability to download all the stuff of Dreamspark while I still qualify so I'll still have access to the server.

    I would normally just burn these images on cd/DVD, but with virtual machines, it is generally easier to use the .iso images. I need a way to save as well as (stored in .txt files) product keys. I'm looking for the cheapest possible solution.

    Buy a USB hard drive for $50 at a "back-to-school" sales stories Office Supply would be viable for the long term storage? Those who are not really designed to be WORMs where I write once, and then paste it in a safe place with my original disks/CD/DVD (all since 1989) until I have more software to back up.

    In my opinion, a backup tape would be too expensive for my needs, flash drives large size are also expensive, DVD are too small or silly to burn a DVD with a single. ISO image.

    So buying an external hard drive seems the cheapest solution, but how that will hold up over time? I think it is bad that the reader will be much used and rest in a unique, rather than be spun position regularly.

    Don't forget that "backup" deduced it is a * second * copy data - not your original copy (only).

    He'll resist quite well - as long as it is not being abused.  Sitting didn't seem to affect one of the readers that I have 5 + years.  Plugged in recently when I found it.  It was one of them:

    Yes - I got when it first came out.  Seems small now - I have an eSATA/USB 64 GB flash drive that holds 64GB.

    Your concern brings up the fact that it shouldn't be so important to you anyway - if you don't think you'll use it very often. ;-)

    The USB-6008 datasheet do not specify the stability long term of the analog inputs and outputs.

    I'm looking for stability compared to the ambient temperature and time (several months to a year), mainly for the outputs or the D/A reference voltage.

    Is there any information available?

    Thank you.

    The precision specification takes into account the evolution both because of the temperature and duration (stable).  Thus, for the period of a year that we guarantee these specifications, which list you is correct.  However, apart from the period of one year since the calibration, this specification may be is more inaccurate.

  • HP Officejet 8000 - long-term storage

    Can anyone advise on the correct procedures for storing long-term Officejet printers.

    We have 24 printers altogether and use them in batches of 4 only for a week, they are stored until they are shipped to another location to be reused for a week.  Total time in storage could be 6 months.

    I don't want to print head and ink problems, replacement print heads and ink isn't ecenomical - its cheaper to buy a new printer.

    Hi Ian_JJ,

    You want to ensure is that printers are off using the power button. In this way, that the print heads can be installed on the service station. If the print heads are not well installed on station service that is when you can expect to get the ink dried in the print heads. This printer cartridges are there just to provide the ink to the print heads. Let me know if you need help.

  • Long-term headless app work: QTcpSocket receive do not

    We have an app without long-term head that uses sockets for IPC.

    Headless part contains a QTcpServer, the user interface of the QTcpSocket.

    the code without a head:

    server = new QTcpServer(this);
    bool ok = connect(server, SIGNAL(newConnection()), this, SLOT(onNewConnection()));server->listen(QHostAddress::LocalHost, m_port);

    user interface code:

    bool stateOk = connect(clientSocket, SIGNAL(stateChanged(QAbstractSocket::SocketState)), this, SLOT(onStateChanged(QAbstractSocket::SocketState)));
    if (!clientSocket->isOpen()) {
        clientSocket->connectToHost(QHostAddress::LocalHost, m_port);
        bool conOk = connect(clientSocket, SIGNAL(connected()), this, SLOT(connected()));
        bool disconOk = connect(clientSocket, SIGNAL(disconnected()), this, SLOT(disconnected()));
        bool readReadOk = connect(clientSocket, SIGNAL(readyRead()), this, SLOT(commandReceived()));
        bool errorOk = connect(clientSocket, SIGNAL(error(QAbstractSocket::SocketError)), this, SLOT(error(QAbstractSocket::SocketError)));
        Q_ASSERT(errorOk);
        qDebug() << "connected to server socket";
    }

    output debug shows headless headless app is running constantly, the signal is properly connected, the socket for the server returns isListening() to true.

    debug output of the user interface shows that all signals are correctly connected, and onStateChanged goes from HostLookupState to ConnectingState and finally to ConnectedState

    At this point, I'd wait the server socket to pull the signal of newConnection, but alas, it isn't.

    I generate and run the xandos example and it works correctly, but it does not long-term use and has the server in the user interface, while the part without head connects.

    I suspect that the app without head doesn't have an event loopand QTcpServer documentation states:

    Although QTcpServer is mostly designed for use with an event loop,it's possible to use it without one.In that case, you must use waitForNewConnection(),which blocks until either a connection is available or a timeout expires.

    Now I wonder:

    The long March without head app has an event loop?

    If this is not the case, how best to use the blocking call without disabling the rest of its features? A thread?

    Write that post little got me on the right track already, a problem merging caused the socket to the server must be started before you call the constructor of the Application (which provides the event loop).

    Now the server is running, receive a few orders, then she stops unexpectedly, the fires of the user interface

  • Script of long-term slow down my computer.

    OT: Long-running Script.

    I have a Windows 7 laptop. I get the message that I have a script of long-term slow down my computer. What exactly is that and how it stop?

    Could you give a little more detail please, if possible. For example when these pop-up messages? you're in a browser (Internet explorer?) when they occur, or do they appear just when you have nothing open on your desktop?

    IF they pop up when you use Internet Explorer, have a read of this to see if it gives indications - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/308260 (unfortunately, it's pretty long).

    Alternatively, you can try to disable the IE script debugger, but maybe it's more to hide the fault rather than fix, assuming it is useful at all.

    Open IE, tools, Internet Options, [Advanced] tab, click on "Disable Script debugging (IE) press OK, close IE and re - open it to see if its helped." There are also "Disable script debugging (other) to try to see if that helps." If they do not help, reset them.

    If this doesn't help not or if you need further assistance, please post back and someone will try to help.

  • Windows 7 Internet Time update registry hack and RealTimeIsUniversal (UTC)

    I think I discovered a problem with the internet time synchronization when RealTimeIsUniversal registry key is set to 'true '.

    In a default of Windows Setup, the time clock (RTC) real is supposed to be in local time. If you synchronize to one hour of the internet server in this default configuration, once the time is synchronized Windows will rewrite the exact time in the CMOS RTC as expected.
    However, if the RTC is in hour UTC and you have activated the key RealTimeIsUniversal, the exact time is is more written in the CMOS RTC after the internet time synchronization. You can still synchronize to an internet time server and the time will display properly for a short period, but time is not written in the CMOS and usually less an hour the nucleus will be re-read (incorrect) the CMOS RTC time and your stay will be distributed. There seems to be no way to get the correct time from a time server to write in the CMOS RTC.
    Is it possible to fix this so that the exact time is written to the RTC when you set to use UTC?
