T510: FDE: BIOS is gateway?

Forgive me if this sounds very stupid, but here goes.

The T510 I ordered has NOURRI of Seagate (confirmed with support from Lenovo). Now, I will implement the HDD password in the BIOS and all that good stuff. I have a fingerprint reader, so it's too good.

BUT what prevents a thief (who steals my laptop) to remove the hard drive and paste as secondary in another laptop / desktop and access to its content?

The documentation here - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-69621.html

has it.

Can I move a disk encrypted to an another ThinkPad and still access the data?
Yes. The encryption key is not specific. As the key is held by the player, it is possible to move the drive to another system always access data.

So what exactly stops the crook?

It is true that the HARD drive can be removed and inserted into another computer, but you still need the password to read the contents of the HARD drive. So moving the disk to another computer HARD does not bypass the password. So to answer your question "which prevents the scammer? The HARD drive password, you add stop the crook. Create a secure password and do not share the password with anyone and it will be difficult or even close it's impossible to break. Password protect the encryption key to decrypt the contents of the drive HARD and everything is stored in a chip on the HARD drive. In this way it is possible to move the HARD disk to another computer, so if you break your computer data will not be lost. As long the crook do not have the password they should use brute force to break and takes forever with a secure password.

If you want to protect the computer as well a crook can not use your computer with another HARD drive, you can add a password in the BIOS as well. The BIOS password protect the computer and HARD drive password protect data HDD.

  • How can I update the Bios because of the question "plugged in, not load?

So I think I have it all, just do not know what to click on and when.

    Hi ski2xtc,

This would happen if the adapter is faulty or the charger on the motherboard component does not work.

To update the BIOS to the latest version, you will need to contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer for more information.

You can try to change the laptop battery and check if it charges properly.

  • Using SetConfig.vbs on T500\T510\T520 change boot order?

Everyone on a T500\t510\T520 BIOS boot order successfully changed using the (SetConfig.vbs) utility of Lenovo WMI Bios?  Whenever I try to change the bios boot order by using this utility, I get the error, "invalid parameter."

Parameter variables are: SetConfig.vbs [Setting] [value]

I changed other settings successfully, but I can get it to work.

    Current BOOTORDER by using "ListAll.vbs".

    BootOrder = HDD0:USBFDD:ATAPICD0:USBCDCILAN:USBHDD:HDD1

    Command I use on a T500 is: SetConfig.vbs BOOTORDER USBFDD:HDD0:ATAPICD0:USBCDCILAN:USBHDD:HDD1

I'm just this test of an operating system running to possibly use in SCCM OSD task sequence.

    There is no BIOS password.

Any ideas?  I get the same error on all 3 models listed above and I'm using the latest version of the WMI utility.

    Thank you

Correct command is BootOrder and not BOOTORDER.

  • "Plugged in, not charging", but have a blue battery light

I have a gateway NV54 as tracks of Win 7 64 bit. I recently had my battery icon display: plugged in, does not support. When I unplug the AC adapter, the computer turns off. Both power and battery light are blue indicating full charge/power, but the battery icon on my screen remains frozen at 14% and says: plugged in, does not support. I tried power off, remove the battery, etc. Did not work. Tried to disable the method battery Microsoft ACPI compatible control others suggest, did not work. I tried to download the BIOS from Gateway drivers, didn't work. This means there is a problem with the battery need to be replaced?

This has been a problem for the last two days. There is no change made to my computer that I can remember. In the bottom of my screen battery icon has fallen of "plugged in not 14% supported" 4% now. Thanks for trying to help. I guess I'll have to buy a new battery. :-/

You can try to uninstall all the tools bridge, then run ThinkVantage System Update on it.

There may be some cosmetic modifications minor bridge made to the stock of the OS to make it 'Gateway', but should not be a problem.

I have an acer gateway ne570 and it does not start and I tried the bios and it always detects the hard drive but first boot priority is boot windows which is the only thing on the menu Manager startup options when you press on enter where the box "no boot device, press a key" comes after starting the laptop and when the gateway logo appears. I've had for over a year and the hard drive still works and my laptop didn't come with a recovery or recovery usb drive. • Over 2 years factory restore, Windows 8 Gateway fails to validate Windows 8 from the bios encrypted

Hi all. For two weeks now, I tried to help a veteran 84-year difficulty his virus infected Office Windows 8 Gateway (Walmart) age of 2 years old.

The poor old man was a PC buyer first time when he bought this PC two years ago & didn't have understand the consequences of not renewing its 60-day trial version antivirus. Therefore after continuing to run his PC online almost two years later, it was badly infected. I went there to help a couple of weeks & he was clearly infected. I installed Malewarebytes, which found more than 2100 malewares & 7 Trojan horses...

I used the factory at the same time restore within Windows 8 boot, & of course, it works but will not validate Windows 8 once it ends. I even tried to clear cmos without result. He can simply read the product ID key encrypted from the UEFI bios.

I could go in another (horrible) story about a third out of the seller of the security assistance Acer references on their site, but in reality what good it would do at this point?

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Thanks in advance for your time, review, & effort!

I would try to use the Microsoft phone activation before installing windows 7 (it must define Roop, disable startup secure, sometimes you need to update your BIOS too to have the option of CSM)

    Press Office windows 8:

the Windows logo key + r

    type

    slui.exe 4

    Press enter

Choose to activate by phone and follow the instructions on the screen.

I have a gateway with windows xp home edition.  After you install the updates, I had to reboot my computer.  When he started this window UTILITY of CONFIGURATION BIOS jumped on and I'm lost.  What am I, I guess what to do?  Should I change something here?

    Hello

Thanks for posting this question in the Microsoft Community.

I'll certainly try and help you in the matter of fixing. However, you must first check with the manufacturer of the computer or the user manual to get out of the manual in the BIOS. The key is usually ESC, but it varies depending on the manufacturer. When you are prompted to save the settings, do not save the.

Consult the help of the manufacturer section , learn more about BIOS.

Hope this helps and let us know if you need more assistance. We will be happy to help you.

  • Adding FDE drives to T410/T510

    Hi all

I need a computer laptop sharpish and want a Lenovo with a FDE drive. I can't afford to wait for the option to customize and buy, however and can not find one with EDF from a reseller, I have to buy one without and exchanging the drive. So, a few questions:

    (1) all of the Lenovo T410/T510 laptops do not support FDE disks?

    (2) if so, what are some brands (i.e. the Hitachi)?

I read through the service manuals and * suspect * 1) is the answer to Yes, but have nowhere with 2). Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    Simon

Your usual choice in self-encrypting hard drives are Hitachi BDE (bulk data encryption), Seagate FDE (Full Disk Encryption) and Toshiba (formerly Fujitsu) SED (SED).  In my view, Hitachi and Seagate use AES - 128, while Toshiba uses AES - 256.  I don't think that there is a difference in practice between the two unless you have a client that requires you to use the latter.

As far as I know, this Lenovo 250 GB HDD FDE (Google UK Shopping Search) is actually a Toshiba.  See here and here.  Also, it comes with a hard drive enclosure, so you don't have to pass an exit.  It is SATA 1.5, but many readers of automatic encryption and since it is a hard drive, it won't matter anyway.  It would be my first choice if the ability meets your requirements.

    I hope this helps.
